Thirty-eight urban volunteers from the Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska areas were monitored for carbaryl exposure during the summer of 1979. All volunteers were involved in the application of carbaryl incidental to their employment or leisure activities. The investigators made no attempt to affect the method of carbaryl application. The mean rates of carbaryl exposure were 3.85 and 0.26g cm–2 hr–1, respectively, for the outside of the clothing and the skin beneath the clothing; clothing apparently provided an effective barrier to carbaryl penetration. The rate of carbaryl exposure to the hands of applicators was 2.36 and 24.96g cm–1 hr–1, respectively, for applicators with and without gloves. The maximum dermal exposure recorded in this study was 2.86 mg kg–1 hr–1 which is significantly less than the stimated dermal LD50 value for carbaryl (4000 mg kg–1). The maximum air concentration of carbaryl was 0.28g L–1, far less than the Threshold Limit Value of 5g L–1. Only a small mean decrease was found in the applicators serum (–1.01%) or erythrocyte (–1.39%) acetylcholinesterase activity. Although some applicators had decreases in either serum or erythrocyte acetylcholinesterase activity greater than 20%, an equal number had increases of the same magnitude. The mean total carbaryl exposure to the applicators, expressed as a percent of toxic dose per hr, was 0.01%, with a maximum estimated exposure of 0.08%.Published with the permission of the Director of the Nebraska Agric. Summary The concentration of urinary chlorophenol was assayed for 230 sawmill workers. Information on the work tasks was obtained through questionnaires from occupational health centres. The workers were divided into three groups on the basis of the type of exposure: (1) those with skin absorption as the main route, (2) those with skin and respiratory route of equal importance and (3) those with respiratory tract as the main route. The concentrations of urinary chlorophenol were higher in workers with skin absorption as the main route (median concentration: 7.8 mol l–1; range 0.1 to 210.9 mol l–1) than in those with both routes of equal importance (1.4 mol l–1; range 0.1 to 47.8 mol l–1, P<0.001) or in those with mainly respiratory route (0.9 mol l–1; range 0.1 to 13.3 mol l–1, P<0.001). The urinary chlorophenol concentration was below 15 moll–1 in all workers with the lungs as the main absorption route. In nine out of 112 workers whose main absorption route was the skin, the urinary chlorophenol values were above 50 mol l–1. Six were loaders when the through-dipping method was used. In two of them urinary chlorophenol concentrations were as high as 170.8 and 210.9 mol l–1, These results emphasize the need to develop and use simple methods of protection against skin contact with chlorophenols.  相似文献

Concentrations of booster antifouling compounds in the port of Osaka, Japan were assessed. Concentrations of Sea-Nine 211 (4,5-dichloro-2-n-octyl-3-isothiazolone), thiabendazole (2-(4-thiazolyl)-benzimidazole), IPBC (3-iodo-2-propynyl butylcarbamate), Diuron (3,4-dichlorophenyl-N, N-dimethylurea), Irgarol 1051 (2-methylthio-4-t-butylamino-6-cyclopropylamino-s-triazine), and M1 (2-methylthio-4-t-butylamino-6-amino-s-triazine) in port water samples were in the range of <0.003–0.004 g L–1, <0.0008–0.020 g L–1, <0.0007–1.54 g L–1, <0.0008–0.267 g L–1, and <0.0019–0.167 g L–1, respectively. IPBC was not detected in the water samples, but the concentration of Diuron was higher than any previously reported. The concentrations of Sea-Nine 211, thiabendazole, Diuron, Irgarol 1051, and M1 in sediment samples were in the range of <0.04–2.4 g kg–1 dry, <0.08–1.2 g kg–1 dry, <0.64–1350 g kg–1 dry, <0.08–8.2 g kg–1 dry, and <0.18–2.9 g kg–1 dry, respectively. IPBC was again not detected. The levels of Sea-Nine 211, Diuron, and Irgarol 1051 in water and sediment samples were high in a poorly flushed mooring area for small and medium-hull vessels. Levels of Diuron and Irgarol 1051 were highest in summer. The concentration of Sea-Nine 211 in water increased between August and October 2002. Except for M1, increases in the levels of booster biocides in sediment were observed during the study period. The sediment–water partition (Kd) was calculated by dividing the concentrations in sediment by the concentrations in water. The Kd values for Sea-Nine 211, thiabendazole, Diuron, Irgarol 1051, and M1 were 690, 180, 2700, 300, and 870. The Kd value for these alternative compounds was lower than for TBT.  相似文献

Effective copper and cadmium concentrations which limited the growth of two chlorophytes by 50%, EC(50)s, after 96 h of static exposure were determined. EC(50)s were 5.94 gM copper and 4.55 M cadmium for Dunaliella salina, and 0.78 M copper and 0.025 M cadmium for Chlamydomonas bullosa. The relationship of the two cations was synergistic towards the growth of both species. Chronic exposure to 4.5×10–6 M cadmium or 4.9×10–4 M copper increased the sensitivity of C. bullosa by 26% and 29% towards cadmium and copper, respectively. Changes in co-tolerance were not observed. Cd-treated D. salina was 50% more tolerant towards this cation, whereas Cu-treated cultures showed extreme sensitivity towards copper and co-sensitivity towards cadmium. Furthermore, the phylogenetic hypothesis, predictive of toxic response, failed to hold at the familial level. This work was submitted by Ioanna Visviki to the Department of Biology of the Graduate School of the City University of New York in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the PhD degree.  相似文献

Objective The objective of this study was to assess the exposure of bus-garage and waste-collection workers to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) derived from diesel exhaust by the measurement of levels of seven urinary PAH metabolites: 2-naphthol, 1-hydroxyphenanthrene, 2-hydroxyphenanthrene, 3-hydroxyphenanthrene, 1+9-hydroxyphenanthrene, 4-hydroxyphenanthrene and 1-hydroxypyrene.Subjects and methods One urine sample from each of 46 control persons, and one pre-shift and two post-shift spot urine samples from 32 exposed workers were obtained in winter and in summer. The metabolites were analysed after enzymatic hydrolysis by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection. Results The sum of seven PAH metabolites (mean 3.94±3.40 and 5.60±6.37 mol/mol creatinine in winter and summer, respectively) was higher [P=0.01, degrees of freedom (df) =61.2 and P=0.01, df=67.6 in winter and summer, respectively] in the exposed group than in the control group (mean 3.18±3.99 and 3.03±2.01 mol/mol creatinine in winter and summer, respectively). The mean concentrations of 2-naphthol among exposed and controls ranged between 3.34 and 4.85 mol/mol creatinine and 2.51 and 2.58 mol/mol creatinine, respectively (P<0.01 in winter, P<0.03 in summer). The mean level of the hydroxyphenanthrenes in the samples of exposed workers was between 0.40 and 0.70 mol/mol creatinine and in the control samples 0.40–0.60 mol/mol creatinine. The concentration of 1-hydroxypyrene was higher among exposed workers in both pre-shift and post-shift samples (mean 0.10–0.15 mol/mol creatinine) than in control group (mean 0.05–0.06 mol/mol creatinine) in winter (P=0.002, df=78) and in summer (P<0.001, df=68).Conclusions The urinary hydroxy-metabolites of naphthalene, phenanthrene and pyrene showed low exposure to diesel-derived PAHs; however, it was higher in exposed workers than in control group. Urinary PAH monohydroxy-metabolites measured in this study did not correlate with the PAHs in the air samples, reported earlier, in 2002 and 2003.  相似文献

Grass shrimp (Palaemonetes pugio) were reared separately through both embryonic and total larval development during exposure to fenoxycarb at measured concentrations of <2.2 to 888 g L–1. A fenoxycarb concentration of 888 g L–1 significantly (p < 0.05) inhibited embryonic development to larval hatching and extended the embryonic developmental period from 11.9 to 12.7 days. Exposure to fenoxycarb concentrations 502 g L–1 had no significant (p > 0.05) effect on complete embryonic development. Significantly fewer shrimp successfully metamorphosed to postlarvae when exposed through complete larval development to fenoxycarb concentrations 4 g L–1. Larval development of grass shrimp was therefore >2 orders of magnitude more sensitive to this juvenile hormone agonist than was embryonic development. Viability of larvae developing in fenoxycarb was concentration dependent. Development beyond third zoeal stage was significantly inhibited at fenoxycarb concentrations 190 g L–1, whereas development beyond fourth zoeal stage was inhibited by a concentration of 45 g L–1. Fenoxycarb exposure of developing larvae did not alter either the duration of total larval development or the total number of larval stages before metamorphosis. Rearing of fenoxycarb-exposed embryos through larval development without further exposure had no significant effect on number of larval stages, larval development rate, or metamorphic success of larvae. Similarities in the sensitivity of grass shrimp larvae and mosquito larvae to fenoxycarb suggests that the use of a bioassay protocol measuring the metamorphic success of crustacean larvae would be a valuable adjunct to the hazard assessment of newly developed pesticides that target endocrine control of metamorphosis in insects and possibly other endocrine-disrupting xenobiotics as well.  相似文献

Summary Higher air lead levels (time-weighted average 660, range 112–2238 g/m3) were measured in firing ranges where powder charges were employed than in ranges where air guns were used (4.6, range 1.8–7.2 g/m3); levels in the latter were in turn higher than those in ranges used for archery (0.11, range 0.10–0.13 g/m3) Twenty-two marksmen who used powder charges had significantly increased blood lead levels during the indoor shooting season (before: median 106, range 32–176 g/l; after: 138; range 69–288 g/l; P = 0.0001), while 21 subjects who mainly used air guns displayed no significant increase (before: median 91, range 47–179 g/l; after: 84; range 20–222 g/l). Thirteen archers had significantly lower levels than the pistol shooters before the season (P = 0.006), and showed a significant decrease during the season (before: median 61, range 27–92 g/l; after: 56; range 31–87 g/l; P = 0.04). At the end of the indoor season, there was a significant association between weekly pistol shooting time and blood lead levels.  相似文献

Summary The exposure of 11 pharmaceutical plant workers to methotrexate (MTX) was studied. Personal air samples were taken during the different manufacturing processes: drug compounding, vial filling, and tablet preparation. The uptake of MTX was established by the determination of MTX in urine. MTX was analyzed using the fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA), a method that is frequently used for monitoring serum levels in patients treated with MTX. The FPIA method was modified in such a way that MTX could be measured quickly and efficiently in air and urine samples. MTX was detected in air samples of all workers except for those involved in the vial filling process (range: 0.8–182 g/m3; median: 10 g/m3). The highest concentrations were observed for workers weighing MTX (118 and 182 g/m3). MTX was detected in urine samples of all workers. The mean cumulative MTX excretion over 72–96 h was 13.4 g MTX-equivalents (range: 6.1–24 g MTX-equiva g MTX-equivalents (range: 6.1–24 g MTX-equivalents). lents). A significantly lower background level of 10.2 g A significantly lower background level of 10.2 g MTX-equivalents was measured in urine of 30 control persons (range: 4.9–21 g MTX-equivalents).  相似文献

Farm-raised 12-month-old female mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) were released at the Winston-Thomas sewage treatment plant, Bloomington, Indiana. Five mallards were sacrificed at the start of the study and at approximately 10-day intervals through day 100. Concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in carcasses increased linearly with time of exposure and exceeded 16 g/g wet weight by day 100; PCBs in breast muscle exceeded 3.9 g/g by day 100. These PCB values are among the highest recorded for wild or sentinel waterfowl. PCB concentrations in breast muscle (26–523 g/g lipid weight) were 50–1,000 times greater than human consumption guidelines for edible poultry in Canada (0.5 g/g lipid weight) and 9–176 times greater than consumption guidelines for edible poultry in the United States (3.0 g/g lipid weight). Additionally, PCB concentrations in carcass and breast muscle exceeded the threshold of the Great Lakes Sport Fish Consumption Advisory do not eat category (1.9 g/g wet weight) by day 20 and day 50, respectively. Hepatic cytochrome P450-associated monooxygenases including BROD (benzyloxyresorufin-O-dealkylase), EROD (ethoxyresorufin-O-dealkylase), and PROD (pentoxyresorufin-O-dealkylase) were induced over 5-fold compared to reference mallards. BROD, EROD, and PROD were each significantly correlated to total PCBs and to the toxicity of selected PCB congeners, relative to 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin.  相似文献

Flow-through early-life-stage (ELS) toxicity tests were conducted with the pesticides aldicarb (Temik®) and fonofos (Dyfonate®) to determine their effect on the survival and growth of fathead minnows. Concentrations of 78g/L of aldicarb and 16g/L of fonofos did not affect survival and growth. However, 156g/L of aldicarb and 33g/L of fonofos were lethal to larval-juvenile exposed for 30 days post-hatch. The maximum acceptable toxicant concentration (MATC) of aldicarb and fonofos for the fathead minnow is estimated to be between 78–156g/L and 16–33g/L, respectively. The corresponding chronic values (geometric mean of MATC values) would be 110g/L and 23g/L. Acute toxicity tests gave 96-hr LC50 values of 1370g aldicarb/L and 1090g fonofos/L. The acute-chronic ratio (96-hr LC50/chronic value) is 12 for aldicarb and 47 for fonofos.  相似文献

The mycelial (25°C) and yeast-like (37°C) forms of Penicillium marneffei clinical and type strains were investigated for their in vitro susceptibility to amphotericin B (AmB), 5-fluorocytosine (5-FC), fluconazole (FLU) and itraconazole (ITZ), using Bacto antibiotic medium 3, yeast-nitrogen, Sabouraud's dextrose (pH 5.7) and high resolution (pH 7.1) broth media (1ml/tube), respectively. Results indicated that the minimal inhibitory and minimal fungicidal concentrations (MICs and MFCs) for the mycelial cultures of P. marneffei to AmB were in the range 0.78–1.56 and 0.78–3.125 g/ml, respectively, as against 3.125–25 g (MICs) for the yeast form cultures. The MFCs to AmB for the yeast form were one dilution higher. The MICs to FLU were generally lower for the yeast form (6.25–25 g) than the mycelial form (25–50 g/ml), whereas MFCs for the mycelial cultures were > 100 g as compared to 6.25–100 g for their yeast form. The MICs for the mycelial form to 5-FC ranged from < 0.195–0.39 g. Higher MICs (6.25 g) were recorded for their yeast form. The MFCs to 5-FC for the yeast form were 25–100 g/ml. The MICs for the mycelial form to ITZ ranged from < 0.195 to 3.125 g/ml. Higher values (< 0.195–50 g) were recorded for their yeast-like form. The MFCs to ITZ for mycelial and yeast forms ranged from < 0.195–0.39 and 25–100 g/ml, respectively. Results indicate that P. marnefei's yeast form is more sensitive to FLU and ITZ (8 of 10 strains) while the mycelial form displayed greater susceptibility to AmB and 5-FC. The MICs for ITZ remained steady in SD medium, pH 5.7 to 7.1. However, some strains gave higher MIC values (0.39–1.56 g/ml) when tested in the HR.  相似文献

When the insecticide/nematicide aldicarb was incubated in three greenhouse soils at 20°C, the transformation rates of the parent compound and its first oxidation product aldicarb-sulfoxide were high, while the amounts of aldoxycarb (=aldicarb-sulfone) remained low. The transformation and movement of aldicarb and its oxidation products in a simplified greenhouse-soil system were simulated with a computation model. When the highest transformation rates were introduced into the computations in combination with high irrigation rates, the computed leaching was only 0.006% of the dose, with a maximum concentration of 0.15g L–1 in the tile-drain water. With lower transformation rates, the computed leaching was 1.39% of the dose with a maximum concentration of 21.0g L–1, but in combination with a lower irrigation rate the leaching was computed to be much less. Water from drain pipes and pits was sampled in three greenhouses that had received regular applications of aldicarb: the concentrations measured by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) varied from less than 1g L–1 to more than 30g L–1. Most of the concentrations measured in water courses in an area with many greenhouses were low, but some were high, ranging up to 21g L–1. Ways of reducing the discharge of the oxidation products of aldicarb from greenhouse soils to water courses are suggested.  相似文献

A new sublethal toxicity test was developed in this study to measure the effect of copper and lead on the motility of coral larvae. Larval motility was significantly affected by copper and lead doses immediately after dosing. The copper EC50 values for motility of Goniastrea aspera brain coral larvae (12 h, 21 g/L; 24 h, 16 g/L; 48 h, 22 g/L) were much lower than the copper LC50 values for G. aspera larval survival (6 h, 260 g/L, and 24 h, 121 g/L, for 5-day-old larvae and 6 h, 248 g/L, and 24 h, 136.64 g/L, for 6-day-old larvae) during the early part of the experiments. However, at later times, the LC50 values (48 h, 40 g/L, for 5-day-old larvae and 48- h, 87 g/L, for 6-day-old larvae) were similar to the EC50 values for larval motility. The lead 72-h EC50 value for G. aspera larval motility (2900 g/L) was much lower than the lead 72-h LC50 value for larval survival (9890 g/L). The results show that larval motility can be a useful parameter to measure in order to determine the sublethal effects of trace metals on coral larvae.  相似文献

The toxicity of mercury (HgCl2), copper (CuCl2: 5 H2O), nickel (NiSO4: 6 H2O), lead (Pb(CH3COO)2: 3 H2O) and cobalt (CoCl2: 6 H2O) was studied under standardized conditions in embryos and larvae of the zebrafish,Brachydanio rerio. Exposures were started at the blastula stage (2–4 h after spawning) and the effects on hatching and survival were monitored daily for 16 days. Copper and nickel were more specific inhibitors of hatching than cobalt, lead, and mercury. Nominal no effect concentrations determined from the dose-response relationships (ZEPs, Zero Equivalent Points) for effect on hatching time were 0.05 g Cu/L, 10 g Hg/L, 20 g Pb/L, 40 g Ni/L and 3,840 g Co/L, and those for effect on survival time were 0.25 g Cu/L, 1.2 g Hg/L, 30 g Pb/L, 80 g Ni/L, and 60 g Co/L. The no effect concentrations for Ni, Hg and Pb are consistent with previously reported MATC values for sensitive species of fish. The no effect concentrations for copper are 1–2 orders of magnitude lower than previously reported values. The major reason for the latter discrepancy was considered to be the absence of organics that can complex copper ions in the reconstituted water that we used, which had a hardness of 100 mg/L (as CaCO3) and a pH of 7.5–7.7. Unexposed controls were started with embryos from different parental zebrafishes and the parental-caused variability in early embryo mortality, median hatching time and median survival time were estimated.  相似文献

Nitrous oxide (N2O) was assayed in 676 urine samples and 101 blood samples provided after exposure by operating theatre personnel from nine hospitals. The blood and urine assays were repeated in 25 subjects 18 h after the end of exposure. For 80 subjects, environmental N2O was also measured during intraoperative exposure. Mean urinary N2O in the 676 subjects at the end of exposure was 40 g/l (range 1–3805 g/l); in 10 of the 676 subjects, urinary N2O was in the range 279–3805 g/l (mean 1202 /l). The 98th percentile was 120 g/l. Mean blood N2O at the end of exposure, measured in 101 subjects, was 21 g/l (median 16 g/l, range 1–75 g/l). Blood and urine N2O (1.5 g/l and 4.9 g/l, respectively) in 25 subjects, 18 h after exposure, was significantly higher than in occupationally non-exposed subjects (blood 0.91 g/l, urine 1 g/l). Environmental exposure was significantly related to blood and urinary N2O (r = 0.59 andr = 0.64, respectively). Blood and urinary N2O were significantly related to each other (r = 0.71), and were equivalent to about 25% of the environmental exposure level. The mean urinary N2O of 1202 g/l in 10/676 subjects was not related to environmental exposure in the operating theatre. The highest urinary N2O levels measured in these 10/676 subjects could be explained by an asymptomatic urinary infection.  相似文献

In acute tests of toxicity, two cladocerans,Daphnia galeata mendotae andCeriodaphnia lacustris, and the calanoid,Diaptomus oregonensis, were more sensitive to fenvalerate thanDaphnia magna, the organism used in standard laboratory bioassays. The 48-hr EC50s for each species/stage in order of increasing sensitivity were adultD. magna — 2.52 g/L;D. magna (48-hr old) — 0.83 g/L; adultD. galeata mendotae — 0.29 g/L; adultC. lacustris — 0.21 g/L;D. galeata mendotae (48-hr old) — 0.16 g/L; adultDiaptomus oregonensis — –0.12 g/L. No toxicity was observed when these organisms were exposed to a range of concentrations of the emulsifiable concentrate without fenvalerate (the EC blank).Rates of filtration of the14C-labelled alga,Chlamydomonas reinhardii byD. galeata mendotae, C. lacustris andD. oregonensis were decreased significantly at sublethal concentrations of fenvalerate after only 24-hr exposure.Ceriodaphnia lacustris showed the greatest sensitivity with rates of filtration significantly decreased at 0.01 g fenvalerate/ L. Concentrations of fenvalerate 0.05 g/L resulted in decreased rates of filtration byD. galeata mendotae. A concentration of 0.10 g fenvalerate/ L caused rates of filtration to increase inD. oregonensis. whereas 0.05 and 0.5 g/L resulted in a decrease in these rates.Rates of assimilation of algae byD. galeata mendotae, C. lacustris andD. oregonensis exposed to similar concentrations of fenvalerate were decreased at concentrations 0.05 g fenvalerate/L. Changes in rates of assimilation were not as sensitive a parameter of toxicity as changes in rates of filtration. The EC blank had no significant effects on rates of filtration or assimilation for all three species.  相似文献

The concentration of Pb, Cd, and Al in tissues of crayfishProcambarus clarkii were evaluated from several wetland sites located adjacent to roadways and were compared to crayfish harvested from a commercial site free from roadside influences. Abdominal muscle, hepatopancreas, alimentary tract, exoskeleton and blood were analyzed for metal content. Results indicated that levels of contamination obtained in almost all tissues of crayfish from roadside ditches contained significantly higher amounts of metals than those of the commercially harvested control crayfish (p = .05–.001). Detection limits of Pb, Cd, and Al ranged from 0.04 g Pb/g to 16.15 g Pb/g.001 g Cd/g to .13 g Cd/g, and 1.22 g Al/g to 981 g Al/g, respectively. Concentrations of Pb, Cd, and Al were highest in the hepatopancreas and alimentary tract. High levels of these elements were also detected in the exoskeleton. In contrast, muscle tissue was the least affected tissue. Several significant correlations among concentrations of metals were found when comparing a variety of tissues inProcambarus clarkii.  相似文献

Total mercury (Hg) concentrations were determined in scalp hair from the populations in the Wau-Bulolo area, eastern Papua New Guinea (PNG), where humans are exposed to large quantities of Hg through gold-mining activities by Hg amalgamation processes. Humans living upstream and not engaged in gold mining had a mean hair Hg concentration of 0.55 g g–1 (range: 0.19–1.1 g g–1) (n=80), which was recognized as the background level in this area. In contrast, the populations involved in gold-mining activities had a significantly higher level of hair Hg (mean: 1.2 g g–1, range: 0.39–3.0 g g–1) (n=86) than the background level, indicating direct or indirect exposure to Hg from gold mining. The hair Hg level in populations downstream of the gold-mining area was significantly higher than the background level, due to the consumption of Hg-contaminated fish. Mercury concentrations were significantly higher in males than in females, regardless of location properties.  相似文献

The concentration of Cr, Zn, Ni, V, Pb, and Cd were measured in lingonberries (Vaccinium vitis-idaea L.) sampled at 23 sampling sites around a ferrochrome and stainless steel works and opencast chromium mine in the Kemi-Tornio region, Northern Finland. Two different microwave-assisted digestion procedures were used for sample digestion, i.e., a mixture of HNO3 + H2O2 and a mixture of HNO3 + H2O2 + HCl + HF + H3BO3. According to the results, the digestion procedure with the mixture of HNO3 + H2O2 underestimated especially the Cr concentrations in plant material. The maximum concentrations of Cr (1.3 mg kg–1, wet weight), Ni (358 g kg–1; ww), V (36 g kg–1; ww), and Cd (2.4 g kg–1; ww) in the immediate vicinity of the point sources were 33, 6, 4, and 8 times higher than the background levels, respectively. The dietary intakes of Cd and Pb were assessed and compared to the health criteria recommendations set by the joint Food and Agriculture Organization and World Health Organization Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA). The results showed that, depending on the consumption of lingonberries, human exposure based on the mean concentrations for Pb and Cd varied between 0.04% and 0.07% for Pb and between 0.04% and 0.09% for Cd compared to the tolerable total quantities of 25 g kg–1 for Pb and 7 g kg–1 for Cd per body weight per week set by JECFA.  相似文献

Objective: This study was undertaken to investigate the exposure to chromium (Cr) and nickel (Ni) in flux-cored wire (FCW) welders welding on stainless steel (SS). Method/design: Seven FCW welders were monitored for 3 days to 1 workweek, measuring Cr and Ni in air, blood, and urine. The welders were questioned about exposure to Cr and Ni during their whole working careers, with emphasis on the week of monitoring, about the use of personal protective equipment and their smoking habits. Results: The air concentrations were mean 200 g/m3 (range 2.4–2,744) for total Cr, 11.3 g/m3 (<0.2–151.3) for CrVI, and 50.4 g/m3 (<2.0–416.7) for Ni during the workdays for the five welders who were monitored with air measurements. The levels of Cr and Ni in biological fluids varied between different workplaces. For Cr in whole blood, plasma, and erythrocytes, the mean levels after work were 1.25 (<0.4–8.3) and 1.68 (<0.2–8.0) and 0.9 (<0.4–7.2) g/l, respectively. For Ni most of the measurements in whole blood and plasma were below the detection limits, the mean levels after work being 0.84 (<0.8–3.3) and 0.57 g/l (<0.4–1.7), respectively. Mean levels for Cr and Ni in the urine after work were 3.96 (0.34–40.7) and 2.50 (0.56–5.0) g/g creatinine, respectively. Conclusion: Correlations between the CrVI levels measured in air and the levels of total Cr in the measured biological fluids were found. The results seem to support the view that monitoring of Cr in the urine may be versatile for indirect monitoring of the CrVI air level in FCW welders.
