Secondary tuberculosis of pharynx is quite a rare condition as pharynx is not a common site for clinically manifest tuberculosis. This study reports a rare and unusual case of secondary oropharyngeal tuberculosis in a 40 years mole patient, who presented with an ulceroprotiferative lesion of Oropharynx extending to nasopharynx and laryngopharynx which besides being tender, bled on touch. There was no associated cervical lymphadenopathy. Routine laboratory investigations were within normal range except raised ESR. Chest x- ray revealed bilateral apical lesions. The patient vas put on antitubercular therapy, with which the patient improved.  相似文献

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign tumor of the salivary glands, mainly arising from major salivary glands such as parotis and submandibular gland. In rare cases, however, pleomorphic adenoma presents in various unusual sites such as the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, hypopharynx, pharynx, larynx, trachea and lacrimal glands. We present a rare case of 80-year-old woman with pleomorphic adenoma of the nasal cavity.  相似文献

Tuberculosis is one of the major causes of ill health and death worldwide. Primary tuberculosis of the oral cavity and oropharynx is usually uncommon. Among tuberculosis of oral cavity and oropharynx, primary tuberculosis of tonsil in the absence of active pulmonary tuberculosis is a very rare clinical entity which presents difficulties in diagnosis because of similarity of presentation of carcinoma tonsil. Diagnosis mainly relies on the treating surgeon having a high index of suspicion. Although rare, tuberculosis should be kept in mind and considered in the differential diagnosis of any patient presenting with ulcer over tonsil.  相似文献

With the global immunization programme of children there is a progressive decline in the number of diphtheria cases. It is a disease commonly affecting the children caused by Corynebacterium diphtheriae usually affecting the mucous membrane of the nose, pharynx or larynx. Cutaneous diphtheria is a rare entity. We present a rare case of cutaneous diphtheria in a 15-year-old boy with nasal pharyngeal and laryngeal involvement. The patient developed anaphylactic reaction to antidiphtheritic serum (ADS) during treatment, all of which were managed successfully.  相似文献

Schwannomas of the Sinonasal tract are very rare, representing less than 4% of schwannomas arising in the head and neck [1]. The most frequent site is the acoustic nerve; other locations include the scalp, oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, parotid gland, and middle ear. Secondary changes in a Schwannoma are a very rare entity. We report a case of Sinonasal schwannoma with pseudoangiomatous changes. The purpose of this article is to highlight the possibility of unusual presentation of a sinonasal schwannoma  相似文献

During the past two decades, Tuberculosis — both pulmonary and extrapulmonary have re-emerged as a major health problem worldwide. Nasal tuberculosis may be primary, or secondary to pulmonary tuberculosis or facial lupus. However all of them are rare entities. Nasal tuberculosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of chronic nasal granulomas. We report a case of primary nasal tuberculosis in an adult female who presented with a polypoidal lesion in the nasal cavity. The diagnosis was based upon smear study, histopathology, culture & polymerase chain reaction. The patient successfully responded to antituberculous therapy and is presently disease free. Given the resurgence of tuberculosis in recent times, it is important that otolaryngologists remain aware of this rare clinical entity.  相似文献

Benign swellings of the pharynx such as papilloma and retention cyst commonly arise from the soft palate, uvula, pillars and tonsils. Benign tumours arising from the hypopharynx are rare. We are reporting a case of fibrolipoma arising from the hypopharynx and protruding through the oral cavity as a ‘double tongue’.  相似文献

Benign neoplasms of the tonsillar region are rare and these include haemangiomas, fibromas, lipomas and schwannomas (Friedmann I, 1986). True fibromas of oral cavity and oropharynxes are very rare (Waal I. V., Snow, G. B. 1993). Fibromas have been recorded in nasal cavity, pharynx and larynx (Fu Y. S., Perzin K. H. 1976), We report a case of fibroma of tonsil for its rarity.  相似文献

Oral tuberculosis is very rare and when present they are usually secondary to pulmonary tuberculosis. Tuberculous lesions of the tongue have become so infrequent that they are virtually a forgotten disease entity and may pose a diagnostic problem. The case reported in this paper emphasizes the importance of including tuberculosis in the differential diagnosis of any chronic oral ulcer. The low number of oral infections by M. tuberculosis could be due to underreporting.  相似文献

Tuberculous otitis media is a rare extra-pulmonary presentation of tuberculosis. Tuberculous otitis media is usually associated with pulmonary tuberculosis or tuberculosis involving nasopharynx and oropharynx. Lupus vulgaris is the most common morphological variant of cutaneous tuberculosis. The disease often affects the face and may be associated with nasal or nasopharyngeal tuberculosis. Lupus vulgaris associated with tuberculous otitis media is not reported in English literature. We report a case of 40 year old female patient who presented with symptoms of chronic suppurative otitis media and non-healing skin lesion of face. The biopsy of skin lesion showed granulomatous pathology and helped us to reach a diagnosis of tuberculous otitis media.  相似文献

Human infection with the Mycobacterium Tuberculosis is common but an ulcerative granulomatous lesion of the tongue as the presenting feature of pulmonary tuberculosis is very unusual. Only a few cases having been reported in the literature (Weaver, 1976). This Daner presents a rare case of lingual tuberculosis.  相似文献

Tuberculosis of the breast is a rare disease. Tubercular abscesses predominantly affecting the soft tissues are also very infrequent. A case of chest wall tuberculosis secondarily involving the breast presenting as a hard, fixed lump simulating mammary carcinoma is presented here. There was no evidence of pleural or pulmonary tuberculosis.  相似文献

Congenital tuberculosis is a rare disease. The non-specific nature of presenting signs and symptoms (because of the lack of host response) and the fatal outcome in the absence of early therapy all underscore the importance of early diagnosis and treatment in infants. Recognition requires awareness that tuberculosis at this age has manifestations not found in older children. Here a case of congenital tuberculosis is presented, where changes were confined only to the thorax. Tuberculosis in the mother could be diagnosed only retrospectively.  相似文献

Branchial cleft cysts extending to the lateral wall of the pharynx are rare. An eight year old female child presented with a cystic swelling in the left parotid region. A bluish cyst was seen anterior to the anterior pillar of left tonsil. CT scan showed the cyst extending into left parapharyngeal space. External part of the cyst was excised via a transcervical approach and the internal part was marsupalised per orally  相似文献

After the spine, the knee joint is the most commonly affected joint in skeletal tuberculosis. Baker's cyst is a rather rare complication of knee joint tuberculosis. The plain radiographic appearance of the tuberculous knee joint has been amply described. We present the magnetic resonance appearance of a tuberculous knee joint associated with a ruptured popliteal cyst.  相似文献
