Serum Lipoprotein (a) Concentration in Patients with Nephrotic Syndrome and Its Clinical Implication

Serum lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] concentration was determined in 42 patients with primary nephrotic syndrome (NS) and the relationships between Lp (a) and plasma lipids, apolipoproteins, serum creatinine (Scr), albumin, urinary proteins (Upro) were also analyzed. The results showed that: (1) serum Lp(a) concentrations in the patients with NS were higher than those in healthy controls;(2) the levels of serum Lp (a) were correlated positively with total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C), apolipoprotein B (Apo-B), Upros (Upro). It is concluded that the NS patients had the potential risk of suffering from coronary artery disease, glomerular sclerosis and thrombosis. The remission of NS may partially decrease the serum Lp(a) levels. Further studies are needed to explore the prevention and treatment of dislipedemia in patients with NS.

Long-term Effect of TCM Decoctions in Treatment of Nephrotic Syndrome

Fifty-seven cases of nephrotic syndrome were treated with TCM decoctions as accessory treatment forprednisone and cyclophosphamide,and the effects were observed in a follow-up period of 5-15 years.The long-term complete remission rate of 68.4% and recurrence rate of 26.3% in the treatment groupwere respectively higher and lower than those in the control group (P<0.01,and P<0.01).The resultssuggested that the TCM decoctions were very helpful in treating this condition.     

Relationship of Tumor Necrosis Factor-α and Nitrogen Oxide with Treatment of Frequent Relapse Nephrotic Syndrome by Shenkangling(肾康灵)Granule in Children

Objective:To observe the relationship of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)and nitrogenoxide(NO)with the treatment of frequent relapse nephrotic syndrome(FRNS)and to explore the patho-genesis of FRNS and the therapeutic mechanism of Shenkangling(肾康灵,SKL)Granule in children.Methods:Sixty children suffering from FRFRNS were randomly divided into the treated group and controlgroup,30 in each,and the other 30 healthy children were taken as healthy group.The patients were trea-ted with prednisone for a long-term course,and those with no effect or partial effect shown were treatedwith additional Tripterygium or Cytoxan in the control group,while in the treated group patients weretreated with prednisone and additional SKL.The two groups were compared as to their changes of TNF-α,NO before and after treatment,and the relapses after treatment.Results:The levels of TNF-α and NO inthe sick children before treatment were markedly higher than those afer treatment and normal group(P<0.01).The positive correlation

Clinical study of Gushen tablet in reducing children’s nephrotic syndrome relapse

Objective: To explore the effect of Gushen tablet (GST) in reducing the relapse of children’s nephrotic syndrome and the possible mechanism of drugs used.Methods: Fifty children with primary nephrotic syndrome who had been induced and alleviated with regular glucocorticoid (GC) were randomly divided into two groups: the GST group used GST and standard middle-long term course of GC, and the control group adopted standard middle-long term course of GC and immunoinhibitory or immunomodulatory agents for treatment. The 0. 5, 1 and 2 years after the treatment the relapse episodes, time for urinary protein negative conversion after relapse, the episodes of patients infection and relapse after infection were evaluated. Before and after treatment the plasma cortisol and T lymphocyte subpopulation were determined.Results: The relapse rate of GST group: the rates after 0. 5, 1, 2 years were 20. 0%, 30. 0% and 40. 9%, and the frequent relapse rate were 0, 6. 7% and 9. 2% respectively, which were lower than those of control group (60. 0%, 70. 0%, 69. 2% and 25. 0%, 15. 0%, 15. 4% respectively); in the GST group no relapse occurred within 0. 5 year, the relapse rate after 1 and 2 years reduced by 40. 0% and 28. 3%, compared with those of the control group (allP < 0.05); during the observation period, the mean infection/every child patient was 1. 86 episodes in GST group, after infection the nephrotic relapse rate was 28. 3%, which was lower than that of the control group (2. 25 episodes, 71.1%,P < 0.05); the relapse per patient in GST group was 0. 8 episodes, time for urinary protein negative conversion was 12. 00± 8. 98 days, lower than those of control group (1. 6 episodes, 20. 75±11. 95 days,P < 0. 05); 3 months after GST treatment the plasma cortisol level normalized, and the CD4/CD8 ratio elevated (P < 0.05).Conclusion: GST could possibly reduce the relapse of children nephrosis, and the frequent relapse and relapse episodes, and the time for post-relaptic urinary protein negative conversion shortened, the plasma cortisol elevated, and the adjustment of cellular immunity disturbance promoted. Clinical Study on the Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis of Shen(肾)-Sui(髓) Insufficiency Syndrome Type by Electroacupuncture

<正>Objective:To study the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture(EA)on treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA)of Shen(肾)-Sui(髓)insufficiency(SSI)syndrome type.Methods:A total of 245 patients(279 knees)of KOA-SSI were randomly assigned to two groups by lottery:141 knees in the treatment group and 138 knees in the control group.The treatment group was managed with EA at the dominant points of Neixiyan(Ex-LE4) and Waixiyan(Ex-LE5)as well as the conjugate points of Xuanzhong(GB39)and Taixi(KI3)for 30 min,once a day,with 15 days as one course;2 courses were applied with a 5-day interval in between.The control group was treated with intra-articular injection of 2 mL hyaluronic acid into the affected joint every 7 days for 5 times in total.The clinical effects on the patients in different stages were observed,and their symptom scores of knee and contents of cytokines,including interleukin-1(IL-1),interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), prostaglandin E_(2α)(PGE_(2α)and matrix metalloproteinases-3(MMP-3),in the knee joint fluid were measured before and after treatment.Results:The study was completed in 235 patients(263 knees);four patients(7 knees) in the treatment group and six patients(9 knees)in the control group dropped out.Comparison of therapeutic effects(excellent and effective rates)between the two groups showed insignificant differences(P0.05). Symptom scores of knee and contents of cytokines in the knee fluid after treatment were lowered significantly in the patients of stageⅠ-Ⅲin both groups(P0.05 or P0.01).However,the lowering of the total symptom score of knee in the patients of stageⅢin the treatment group was more significant(P0.05).Conclusions:EA could effectively alleviate the clinical symptoms in KOA patients of stage 1,showing an effect superior to that of hyaluronic acid.EA also shows action in suppressing the secretion of IL-1,IL-6,TNF-α,PGE_(2α)and MMP-3 in the knee fluid.

Clinical Observation on Treatment of Female Delayed Acne Vulgaris with Qingre Cuochuang Tablet(清热痤疮片)

Objective: To observe the clinical therapeutic effect of Qingre Cuochuang tablet ( 清热痤疮片, QCT) in treating female delayed acne vulgaris (FDAV, with patients age more than 25 years old) , to objectively evaluate the clinical effect in patients and to assess the effect of QCT on sexual hormone.
