BACKGROUND

Measuring the quality of life measure of patients with dermatologic diseases is an important concern. The instruments to evaluate it are commonly originally written in English and need to be translated and validated to be used in different cultures.

OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this paper is to translate and validate the Skindex-29 questionnaire to Brazilian Portuguese to be used in our country as a quality of life assessment instrument in dermatologic patients.

METHODS

The first step was the translation from English to Brazilian Portuguese and the back-translation by two native speakers. The translated version was then used for the second step, when three questionnaires were applied to 75 patients (43 of whom were classified as lightly affected and 32 as heavily affected by their dermatologic conditions): an identification questionnaire, the translated version of Skindex-29, and the Brazilian Portuguese version of Dermatologic Life Quality Index (DLQI). Additionally, the generic questionnaire Short Form 36 (SF-36) was applied to 41 of these patients. The last step to evaluate reproducibility was repeating the Skindex-29 questionnaire by the same researcher one week later in 44 patients.

RESULTS

Reliability was observed in global Skindex-29 scale (α=0.934), and its domains emotions (α=0.926), symptoms (α=0,702), and psycosocial functioning (α=0.860). The reproducibility showed high intraclass correlations. High intra class correlations was observed, thus validating reliability.

CONCLUSIONS

The Skindex-29 quality of life questionnaire was properly translated and validated to Brazilian Portuguese.  相似文献

BACKGROUND:

Vitiligo, although asymptomatic, highly compromises patients'' quality of life (QoL). Therefore, an adequate evaluation of QoL is essential.

OBJECTIVES:

Translation, cultural adaptation and validation of VitiQol (Vitiligo-specific health-related quality of life instrument) into Brazilian Portuguese.

METHODS:

The study was conducted in two stages; the first stage was the translation and cultural/linguistic adaptation of the instrument; the second stage was the instrument''s validation.

RESULTS:

The translated VitiQol showed high internal consistency (Cronbach alpha = 0.944) and high test-retest reliability and intraclass correlation coefficient=0.95 (CI 95% 0.86 - 0.98), p<0.001. There was no statistically significant difference between the means of the first completion of the VitiQoL questionnaire and the retest, p = 0.661. There was a significant correlation between VitiQoL and DLQI (r = 0.776, p <0.001) and also between VitiQoL-PB and subjects'' assessment of the severity of their disease (r = 0.702, p <0.001).

CONCLUSIONS:

The impact of vitiligo on the QoL of Brazilian patients can be assessed by a specific questionnaire.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo assess health-related quality of life and its predictors among people with chronic wounds.Material and methodsA cross-sectional, analytical study was conducted with 85 people with chronic wounds, from July to September 2019, at a university hospital in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. Data were collected using forms and the Cardiff Wound Impact Schedule (CWIS). For data analysis, multiple linear regression was performed.ResultsThe mean quality of life score according to the CWIS was 45.57. The variables gender, marital status, comorbidities, duration of injury and appearance of exudate were negatively associated with the well-being domain. Injury duration, tissue depth, tissue type, and exudate volume were variables negatively associated with physical symptoms and mastery of daily living. Religion, wound origin, duration, lesion size, and tissue depth were negatively associated with the social life domain.ConclusionSociodemographic characteristics and wound-related aspects need to be considered when assessing and caring for patients with chronic wounds to ensure a better quality of life.  相似文献

ObjectiveThe objective of the study was to translate and culturally adapt the Female Genital Self-Image Scale (FGSIS-7) into a valid and reliable Swedish version, and to test the instrument.MethodsThe instrument was translated into Swedish in a three-stage process of translation, back-translation and synthesis. The face validity of the pre-final translation was tested in a cognitive debriefing with a test group of eight women, while construct validity was tested in a group of six subject matter experts. Internal consistency, data completeness, score distributions, and floor and ceiling effects were measured using an online survey with a cross-sectional design.ResultsThe Swedish version of the instrument (SWE-FGSIS-7) was perceived as a comprehensible, understandable and user-friendly instrument by the test group and the experts. The online survey included 147 responders with 100 % data completeness and no floor or ceiling effects. The internal consistency was good (Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient 0.82). The total mean score was 22.44 (SD = 3.98).ConclusionSWE-FGSIS-7 is a user-friendly, understandable, valid and reliable instrument for estimating genital self-image, which can be used to initiate a dialogue that may contribute to increased knowledge about women’s own bodies and strengthen their reproductive and sexual health.  相似文献

BACKGROUND

atopic dermatitis is directly related to psychological stress, reduced quality of life and psychosomatic symptoms. The Psychosomatic Scale for Atopic Dermatitis is the only questionnaire developed specifically for assessment of psychosomatization in atopic dermatitis.

OBJECTIVES

the objective of this study was to cross-culturally adapt and validate a Brazilian-Portuguese version of the Psychosomatic Scale for Atopic Dermatitis.

METHODS

adaptation consisted of independent translation and backtranslation by three bilingual translators, followed by a pre-test. The Psychosomatic Scale for Atopic Dermatitis and the Dermatology Life Quality Index were self-administered to 47 patients with atopic dermatitis. Disease severity was evaluated using the Eczema Area and Severity Index. Factor analysis was used to identify the dimensions of the Brazilian Portuguese version of the Psychosomatic Scale for Atopic Dermatitis. Internal consistency and convergence validity were also analyzed. Reproducibility was assessed using the Kappa coefficient.

RESULTS

factor analysis revealed a two-dimensional structure: stress/laziness/insecurity (I) and maladjustment/social relationships (II), explaining 54.4% of total variance. All dimensions revealed excellent internal consistency. External construct validity was confirmed by positive correlations between the Psychosomatic Scale for Atopic Dermatitis and the Dermatology Life Quality Index. Test-retest reliability was excellent, with k>0.7 for all questions.

CONCLUSIONS

the Brazilian Portuguese version of the Psychosomatic Scale for Atopic Dermatitis demonstrated acceptable psychometric properties and can be used for the evaluation of psychosomatic symptoms in patients with atopic dermatitis and as a tool in clinical and epidemiological research.  相似文献

BackgroundHealth-related quality of life assesses how diseases affect the daily life of people; there are several generic instruments for this assessment in dermatology. Skindex was created in 1996; it is a multidimensional instrument, aiming to encompass some psychological and social aspects not yet addressed by other questionnaires. Among its versions (Skindex-29, 16, and 17), Skindex-17 had not been validated in Brazil.ObjectivesTo validate Skindex-17 for use in Brazilians with dermatological diseases.MethodsThis was a methodological, cross-sectional, and prospective study of 217 patients attended at the Dermatology Service Outpatient Clinic, Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu - Universidade Estadual Paulista (Botucatu, SP, Brazil), from December 2017 to September 2019. The following were evaluated: content validity, filling time, internal consistency, dimensional structure, concurrent validity (DLQI), temporal stability, and responsiveness.ResultsThe sample consisted of 71% women, mean age (SD) of 45 (16) years; phototypes II−IV accounted for 95% of the cases. Cronbach's alpha coefficients were 0.82 and 0.93 for the symptoms and psychosocial conditions, respectively. A high correlation was observed with the DLQI score: symptoms (rho = 0.69) and psychosocial conditions (rho = 0.75). The instrument's two-dimensional structure was confirmed through confirmatory factor analysis. Temporal stability (ICC > 0.9) and score responsiveness (p ≤ 0.02) were verified. The instrument was shown to be feasible in clinical practice due to the content validation performed by professionals and patients, as well as the low time spent completing it (< 5 min).Study limitationsSingle-center study, with patients exclusively from the public healthcare system.ConclusionsSkindex-17 was shown to be a valid and consistent instrument for assessing quality of life among patients with dermatological diseases, in Brazil. Its two-dimensional structure was confirmed.  相似文献

PurposeThe Neonatal Skin Risk Assessment Scale is the only tool exclusively designed for neonatal populations and it is the most recommended for neonatal skin risk assessment. To date, the NSRAS has been validated in different languages, but an Italian version was lacking. Consequently, the purpose of this study was to translate and to provide a cross-cultural adaptation of the NSRAS into Italian.MethodThe translation and cross-cultural adaptation were conducted following an international instrument translation guideline across five steps: (1)translation, (2)forward translation review, (3)back translation, (4)back-translation review and (5)pre-test. Content validity was measured using the content validity index (CVI), calculating Aiken's coefficient, according to the opinion of an expert group.ResultsThe final version approved by the expert committee was well understood by all nurses who participated in the study and has obtained a good face validity and content validity. Expert evaluation provided a CVI-Total of 0.92 [0.85–0.96], with Aiken V values for each item analyzed ranging between 0.85 and 0.97.ConclusionThe i-NSRAS is a clear, simple, relevant, and unambiguous tool. It is also updated to current knowledge on PUs and evaluates the presence of clinical devices as a risk factor in neonatal population.  相似文献

Background

Acne has a high impact on patients being a chronic, common, and visible skin condition. Knowledge regarding treatment improves outcomes. The Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI) is commonly used in clinical practice for quality-of-life assessment. It has been validated in many languages, however, not in Romanian.

Aims

To validate the Romanian adaptation of the CADI and educational materials for acne patients.

Patients and Method

A 12-week prospective cross-sectional Web-based study, including 3rd- to 5th-year medical students attending our university was conducted. We obtained permission from the CADI copyright owner and performed the steps of the standardized translation process. The Romanian CADI adaptation was delivered online in a test–retest setup, during which participants were offered acne educational materials and completed a knowledge evaluation questionnaire.

Results

A total of 95 complete answers were analyzed. The Romanian CADI adaptation showed good internal consistency, with Cronbach's α = 0.807 in the first application and Cronbach's α = 0.839 in the second. High test–retest reliability was observed, with interclass correlation coefficient ICC = 0.987 and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient rs = 0.970 for the overall CADI scores between the two administrations. The mean baseline score in the knowledge evaluation questionnaire was 15.52 points (±1.556), with a statistically significant improvement after exposure to the educational material (Z = −7.207, p < 0.001). This material was considered useful or very useful by 78(82.8%) participants.

Conclusion

Romanian acne patients can benefit from CADI, a reliable and disease-specific tool for quality-of-life evaluation, together with validated, guideline-aligned educational material in their language.  相似文献

Background

Psoriasis exerts significant, negative, impact on patients'' quality of life (QOL). Recently, the relationship between QOL and skin lesion improvement has been emphasized in the treatment of psoriasis patients.

Objective

The purpose of study was to compare the QOL in psoriasis and other skin diseases, and to evaluate the generic QOL, skin specific QOL, stress, depression and anxiety before and after treatment in patients.

Methods

A total of 138 patients with psoriasis were recruited in this study and 83 patients complete the questionnaire at week 16. Questionnaires were comprised of generic WHO QOL scale, dermatology specific questionnaires (Skindex-29), psoriasis life stress inventory (PLSI), Beck depression inventory (BDI), and Beck anxiety inventory (BAI). Clinical response was assessed by the PASI.

Results

After treatment, health-related QOL was improved and PASI improvement showed smaller correlation with Skindex-29, compared with the correlations between self-reported severity score (SRSS) improvement and Skindex-29. Regression analysis revealed that duration, SRSS, stress, and depression were factors affecting baseline HRQOL in patients, and age, duration, and SRSS were predictors associated with HTQOL score changes.

Conclusion

Treatment improved HRQOL, BAI, BDI, and PLSI scores. Psoriasis may become more burdensome in groups of patients who suffer long disease duration, high SRSS, depression, and stressful environments.  相似文献

BACKGROUND

many studies about the psychosocial impact of acne have been reported in international medical literature describing quality of life as a relevant clinical outcome. It is well known that the patient''s perception about the disease may be different from the physician''s evaluation. Therefore, it is important to use validated instruments that turn the patient''s subjective opinion into objective information.

OBJECTIVES

to translate into Brazilian-Portuguese language and to culturally adapt a quality of life questionnaire, the Acne-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire (Acne-QoL), as well as to evaluate its reliability and validity.

METHODS

measurement properties were assessed: 1) validity: comparison between severity and Acne-QoL domain scores, correlations between acne duration and Acne-QoL domain scores, and correlation between Acne-QoL domain scores and SF-36 components; 2) internal consistency: Cronbach''s α coefficient; 3) test-retest reproducibility: intraclass correlation coefficient and Wilcoxon test.

RESULTS

Eighty subjects with a mean age of 20.5 ± 4.8 years presenting mild (33.8%), moderate (36.2%) and severe (30%) facial acne were enrolled. Acne-QoL domain scores were similar among the different acne severity groups except for role-social domain. Subjects with shorter acne duration presented significant higher scores. Acne-QoL domains showed significant correlations, both between themselves and with SF-36 role-social and mental health components. Internal consistency (0.925-0.952) and test-retest reproducibility were considered acceptable (0.768-0.836).

CONCLUSIONS

the Brazilian-Portuguese version of the Acne-QoL is a reliable and valid satisfactory outcome measure to be used in facial acne studies.  相似文献

BackgroundSkin picking disorder is a prevalent disorder frequently comorbid with depression and anxiety, which is underdiagnosed mainly by dermatologists. Assessment of skin picking disorder is based on instruments influenced by the awareness about skin picking disorder and comorbid symptoms. To date, there is no validated instrument for Brazilian individuals nor an instrument to evaluate the severity of skin lesions in an objective way.ObjectivesValidate the Skin Picking Impact Scale for Brazilian Portuguese and create a photographic measurement to assess skin lesions.MethodsThe sample was assessed through the Skin Picking Impact Scale translated into Brazilian Portuguese, the Hamilton Anxiety Scale, the Beck Depression Inventory, and the Clinical Global Impression Scale. The patients’ skin lesions were photographed. Photos were evaluated regarding active excoriation, crust/bleeding, exulceration, and linear lesions.ResultsThere were 63 patients included. The Skin Picking Impact Scale translated into Brazilian Portuguese had good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.88), which tests of goodness-of-fit, showing a suitable model. The reliability of photographic measurement was 0.66, with a high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.87). Photographic measurement was not correlated with the Skin Picking Impact Scale, the Clinical Global Impression Scale, or comorbid symptoms.Study limitationsLack of a previously validated instrument to evaluate dermatillomania in the Brazilian population for comparison.ConclusionThe Skin Picking Impact Scale validated in Brazilian Portuguese is a good instrument to evaluate skin picking disorder. Photographic measurement is a consistent way of assessing skin lesions, but it does not reflect the impact of skin picking disorder on the individual's life.  相似文献

IntroductionPressure injury (PI) related knowledge can be used as an outcome indicator of a PI education program. In Malaysia, no scale has been translated and validated for measuring PI-related knowledge among patients with a PI.AimThe purpose of this study was to cross-culturally adapt, translate and determine the validity and reliability of the Malay version of the revised-Skin Management Need Assessment Checklist (revised-SMnac).MethodThe instrument was initially written in English and translated into the Malay language. The internal consistency, construct validity, and test-retest reliability were examined after the item and scale's cross-cultural equivalence and content validity were evaluated. Construct validity was determined through the administration of the instrument amongst 170 hospitalised patients with a PI. Content validity index (CVI) was further determined through validation by a panel of five wound care experts. The instrument's stability was determined by the test-retest model with a two-week interval.ResultsThe content validity of the item-CVI (I-CVI) was >79%, indicating that all 17-items were appropriate, while the scale-CVI (S-CVI) of >0.83 indicated an acceptable scale. The Cronbach's Alpha was .994 indicated good internal consistency. Test-retest showed a good intra-class correlation coefficient, ICC = 0.955 with 95% CI [0.992–0.996].ConclusionsThe Malay version of the revised-SMnac demonstrated to be a valid and reliable tool to measure PI-related knowledge among the Malay-speaking patient population in Malaysia. The tool is recommended for use to measure the effectiveness of education programs related to PI care in future studies.  相似文献
