BACKGROUND: Human milk fatty acids vary with maternal dietary fat composition. Hydrogenated dietary oils with trans fatty acids may displace cis n-6 and n-3 unsaturated fatty acids or have adverse effects on their metabolism. The effects of milk trans, n-6, and n-3 fatty acids in breast-fed infants are unclear, although n-6 and n-3 fatty acids are important in infant growth and development. OBJECTIVE: We sought to determine the relations between trans and cis unsaturated fatty acids in milk and plasma phospholipids and triacylglycerols of breast-fed infants, and to identify the major maternal dietary sources of trans fatty acids. DESIGN: We collected milk from 103 mothers with exclusively breast-fed 2-mo-old infants, blood from 62 infants, and 3-d dietary records from 21 mothers. RESULTS: Mean (+/-SEM) percentages of trans fatty acids were as follows: milk, 7.1 +/- 0.32%; infants' triacylglycerols, 6.5 +/- 0. 33%; and infants' phospholipids, 3.7 +/- 0.16%. Milk trans fatty acids, alpha-linolenic acid (18:3n-3), arachidonic acid (20:4n-6), docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n-3) (P < 0.001), and linoleic acid (18:2n-6) (P = 0.007) were each related to the same fatty acid in infant plasma phospholipids. Milk trans fatty acids were inversely related to milk 18:2n-6 and 18:3n-3, but not to milk or infant plasma 20:4n-6 or 22:6n-3. trans Fatty acids represented 7.7% of maternal total fat intake (2.5% of total energy); the major dietary sources were bakery products and breads (32%), snacks (14%), fast foods (11%), and margarines and shortenings (11%). CONCLUSIONS: There were comparable concentrations of trans fatty acids in the maternal diet, breast milk, and plasma triacylglycerols of breast-fed infants. Prepared foods were the major dietary source of trans fatty acids.  相似文献

Maternal adipose tissue is a major contributor to breast milk long-chain fatty acids, probably through the pool of plasma NEFA. The fatty acid composition of the erythrocyte membrane (EM) is a biochemical index of the intake of fatty acids not synthesized endogenously and of PUFA and long-chain PUFA fatty acid status. The present study investigated the associations between breast milk fatty acid composition and the composition of plasma NEFA and of EM fatty acids with special reference to PUFA, long-chain PUFA and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). The detailed fatty acid composition of mature breast milk was also reported. Thirty-three healthy, lactating Brazilian women donated milk samples; of these, twenty-four also donated blood samples in an observational cross-sectional study. Breast milk fatty acid composition presented several associations with NEFA and EM composition, which explained most (> or =50 %) of the variability of selected milk PUFA, long-chain PUFA and CLA. Milk CLA was associated with fatty acids that are markers of dairy fat intake in the diet, NEFA and EM. In general, breast milk n-3 fatty acids and CLA, but not n-6 fatty acids, were associated with EM composition, whereas both the n-6 and n-3 fatty acids and CLA in milk were associated with NEFA composition, possibly owing to its role as a direct source of fatty acids for breast milk. These findings emphasize the contribution of the NEFA pool derived from the adipose tissue to the long-chain fatty acid composition of breast milk.  相似文献

Duodenal and milk samples obtained from lactating cows in a previous study were analyzed to compare the content and isomer distribution of conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) and trans-18:1 fatty acids (tFA). Four diets containing either low [25 g/100 g dry matter (DM)] or high (60 g/100 g DM) forage were fed with or without 2% added buffer to four multiparous Holstein dairy cows in a 2 x 2 factorial, 4 x 4 Latin square design with 3-wk experimental periods. Duodenal flows of CLA were low (1.02-1.84 g/d), compared with that of tFA (57-120 g/d), regardless of diet. The greatest amounts of CLA and tFA, as well as the greatest proportions of trans-10-18:1 (P < 0.02), and cis-9, trans-11 (P < 0.01) and trans-10, cis-12 CLA (P < 0.01) were in the duodenal flow of cows fed the low forage unbuffered diet. In milk fat, tFA were increased by the low forage unbuffered diet and the trans-10-18:1 (P < 0.02) replaced trans-11-18:1 as the major 18:1 isomer. Milk CLA secretion (7.2-9.1 g/d) was greater (P < 0.001) than that in the duodenal flow with each diet. This was due to the increase in cis-9, trans-11-18:2 and trans-7, cis-9 CLA, resulting most likely from endogenous synthesis via Delta9-desaturation of ruminally derived tFA. For other CLA isomers, duodenal flow was always greater than milk secretion, suggesting that they essentially were produced in the rumen.  相似文献

The effects of seven levels of dietary linoleic acid (18:2), with and without trans-octadecenoic acid (18:1t), on the fatty acid composition and prostaglandin content of milk were investigated in lactating rat dams. At parturition, 14 groups of 4 rats each were fed diets containing 20% fat, with mixtures of coconut and safflower oils providing seven concentrations of 18:2 ranging from 3.6 +/- 0.5 to 44.5 + 2.3% of total fatty acids. Hydrogenated soybean oil was added such that 18:1t comprised 10.3 +/- 0.3% of total fatty acids. Milk samples were collected on day 12 postpartum for prostaglandin analyses and on day 16 for fatty acid analyses. The relationship of dietary 18:2 to milk 18:2 was linear (r = 0.98; P = 0.0001), with milk 18:2 ranging from 2.6 +/- 0.1% of total fatty acids at the lowest level of dietary 18:2 to 27.9 +/- 1.6% at the highest. Milk 18:1t was highly correlated (r = 0.99; P = 0.0001) with the amount of dietary 18:1t. In rats fed hydrogenated fat, milk 18:1t averaged 7.0 +/- 0.2% of total fatty acids. Transfer from diet to milk was 46.4 +/- 4.2% for 18:2 and 37.5 +/- 1.7% for 18:1t. Mean concentrations of prostaglandin F2 alpha and E in rat milk were 269 +/- 16 pg/mL and 477 +/- 24 pg/mL respectively. There were no significant differences in the concentrations of either prostaglandin relative to 18:1t consumption at any level of 18:2.  相似文献

We investigated the effect of regular exercise and changes in dietary fatty acid profile on skeletal muscle phospholipid fatty acid profile in rats. Rats were randomly divided into three groups and for 4 wk fed either a carbohydrate-rich diet (CHO, 10 percent of total energy (E%) fat, 20 E% protein, 70 E% CHO) or one of two fat-rich diets (65 E% fat, 20 E% protein, 15 E% CHO) containing predominantly either saturated or monounsaturated fatty acids. Each dietary group was randomly assigned to a trained (6 d/wk, progressive to 60 min, 28 m/min at a 10 degrees incline) or a sedentary group. The effect of training was apparent in the three hindlimb muscles analyzed: red quadriceps, white quadriceps and soleus. The unsaturation index was significantly lower in the trained than in the sedentary groups (206 +/- 2 vs. 215 +/- 2, P < 0. 01), which largely reflected a lower content of arachidonic acid [20:4(n-6): 14.5 +/- 0.5 vs. 16.6 +/- 0.4% of total fatty acids, P < 0.01] and docosahexaenoic acid [22:6(n-3): 11.1 +/- 0.2 vs. 11.7 +/- 0.3% of total fatty acids, P < 0.03] and a concomitant higher content of linoleic acid [18:2(n-6): 20.0 +/- 0.4 vs. 17.8 +/- 0.4% of total fatty acids, P < 0.01]. Training affected skeletal muscle membrane structural composition, and this occurred independently of dietary fatty acid changes. This change likely reflects an increased utilization of highly unsaturated fatty acids for energy, an effect which may have deleterious effects on insulin action.  相似文献

The study was undertaken to determine whether the content of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in neonatal rats can be increased through milk provided by lactating mothers fed a diet containing 20% menhaden oil (experimental group), in comparison with a group fed a 20% corn oil diet (control group). The test diets were isocaloric and provided 41% of total energy as fat. Coinciding with 3-9% higher maternal body weight gain throughout the lactation period with the menhaden oil diet, the suckling rats in the experimental group at the ages of 3-9 d gained 5-10% more weight than did their control counterparts. When compared with corn oil, maternal dietary menhaden oil induced not only a higher weight percentage but also higher concentrations (microgram/mL) of EPA, DHA and total (n-3) fatty acids in milk, plasma, platelets and erythrocytes of neonates. These changes were accompanied by lower arachidonic and linoleic acid levels. EPA and DHA were detected in all three blood components of the control group, whose corn oil diet contained linolenic acid but not longer chain (n-3) fatty acids. This finding, together with the higher DHA to EPA ratios found in the three blood components than in the milk of the experimental group, suggests that neonatal rats possess the enzymes necessary for producing DHA from EPA and linolenate by desaturation and elongation mechanisms.  相似文献

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) supplements containing a variety of isomers reduce milk fat yield. We have recently identified trans-10, cis-12 CLA as the isomer responsible for inhibiting milk fat synthesis in dairy cows. Our objectives were to determine milk fat yield and fatty acid composition responses to different doses of trans-10, cis-12 CLA. Multiparous Holstein cows (n = 4) were used in a 4 x 4 Latin square design. Treatments consisted of a 5-d abomasal infusion of four doses of trans-10, cis-12 CLA, i.e., 0.0, 3.5, 7.0 and 14.0 g/d. Milk fat yield was decreased 25, 33, and 50%, and milk fat concentration was reduced 24, 37 and 46% when cows received 3.5, 7.0 and 14.0 g/d of trans-10, cis-12 CLA, respectively. Feed intake, milk yield, and milk protein content and yield were unaffected by treatment. Milk fatty acid composition revealed that de novo synthesized fatty acids (short and medium chain) were extensively reduced when cows received the two highest doses, but at the low dose (3.5 g/d), decreases in de novo synthesized fatty acids and preformed fatty acids were similar. Changes in milk fatty acid composition also demonstrated that (9)-desaturase activity was inhibited at the two high doses of trans-10, cis-12 CLA, but was unaffected by the low dose. Results indicate minimal quantities of trans-10, cis-12 CLA (0.016% of dietary dry matter) markedly inhibited milk fat synthesis (25% reduction) and that a curvilinear reduction in milk fat yield occurred with increasing quantities of trans-10, cis-12 CLA.  相似文献

The influence of fish oil and safflower oil contained in the common Japanese diet as the main dietary polyunsaturated fatty acid source on plasma fatty acids in ten female student volunteers (21-22 years old) was investigated. The subjects were divided into two groups and fed the experimental diets for five days. The total daily fat intake in the fish diet and safflower oil diet was 54.4 g and 56.2 g, respectively, and the fat derived from fish and safflower oil was 16 g and 23 g, respectively. The proportion of linoleic acid was reduced in the plasma of subjects fed the fish diet and increased in the plasma of subjects fed the safflower oil diet. The plasma levels of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) were significantly elevated in the fish diet group. The ratio of EPA/arachidonic acid (AA) was higher, and those of n-6/n-3 and n-9/n-3 were lower in the plasma of subjects fed the fish diet when compared to the results obtained from plasma of subjects fed the safflower oil diet. From these results, it seems likely that fish oil in the common Japanese diet is a favorable source of plasma EPA and DHA even in such short term supplementation and with such a small amount of daily consumption.  相似文献

Long-chain PUFAs (LCPUFAs) are essential for proper neural and retinal development in many mammalian species. We investigated puppies born to dogs fed diets containing varying amounts of vegetable and marine (n-3) fatty acids during gestation/lactation. The fatty acid compositions of dogs' milk and puppy plasma phospholipids were evaluated, and electroretinographic responses of the young dogs were determined after they were weaned to the same diets. Dogs' milk fatty acid composition reflected the diets fed during gestation/lactation. The milk of dogs fed a high alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) diet was enriched in ALA but not docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Puppies fed this ALA-enriched milk accumulated more plasma phospholipid DHA than the low (n-3) fatty acid group. However, this accumulation was less than that obtained in puppies fed preformed DHA during development and suckling (P < 0.05). Electroretinograms (ERGs) of 12-wk-old puppies revealed significantly improved visual performance in dogs fed the highest amounts of (n-3) LCPUFAs (P < 0.05). These puppies demonstrated improved rod response (improved amplitude and implicit time of the a-wave, P < 0.05). Puppies from the low (n-3) fatty acid group exhibited the poorest ERG responses compared with the high-marine or high-vegetable (n-3) groups. A novel parameter devised in this study, the initial intensity at which the a-wave was detectable (i.e., threshold intensity), also demonstrated that retinal response of puppies consuming the (n-3) LCPUFA-containing diets occurred at lower light intensity, thereby exhibiting greater rod sensitivity, than the other diet groups. These findings indicate that preformed dietary (n-3) LCPUFA is more effective than ALA in enriching plasma DHA during perinatal development and results in improved visual performance in developing dogs.  相似文献

In a 16-wk study, weanling Wistar rats (32 males and 32 females) were fed a modified AIN-76 diet containing 20% fat with various (n-3) fatty acids. All dietary fats provided the same amount of saturates, monounsaturates, and total essential fatty acids [(n-6) + (n-3)]. The control diet contained lard/corn oil (L/CO). The other diets contained (n-3) fatty acids from linseed oil (LSO), from linseed oil + menhaden oil (LSO + MO) or from menhaden oil (MO). The (n-3) diets reduced total and HDL-cholesterol, particularly in rats fed the MO diet. Platelet thromboxane levels were equally depressed by the LSO and MO diets. Dietary (n-3) fatty acids significantly elevated docosahexaenoic acid in livers and hearts of male and female rats, with females reaching higher levels. This increase was accompanied by reduced arachidonic acid, except for hearts of females in which the major decrease was in linoleic acid. Overall, enzyme activities in the MO-fed group were decreased to the following levels (relative to the activity in the control group): heart Mn superoxide dismutase (SOD), 28%; liver CuZnSOD, 82%; aorta CuZnSOD, 32%. Greater reductions in these enzyme activities were seen in the female rats fed the MO diet compared with male rats. Lipid peroxidation, assessed by urinary, heart and liver thiobarbituric acid reactants, was increased by dietary (n-3) fatty acids (MO greater than LSO + MO greater than LSO greater than L/CO) and was higher in females than in males. These results indicate that enhanced lipid peroxidation occurs with the increased oxidative stress of elevated tissue (n-3) fatty acids accompanied by reduced SOD activity.  相似文献

This study examined the effects of diets deficient (D) in linoleic [18:2(n-6)] and linolenic acid [18:3(n-3)] at 0.8 and 0.05% energy, respectively, or adequate (C) in 18:2(n-6) and 18:3(n-3) at 8.3 and 0.8% energy, respectively, without (-) or with (+) 0.2% energy arachidonic [20:4(n-6)] and 0.16% energy docosahexaenoic [22:6(n-3)] acid in piglets fed from birth to 18 d. Frontal cortex dopaminergic and serotoninergic neurotransmitters and phospholipid fatty acids were measured. Piglets fed the D- diet had significantly lower frontal cortex dopamine, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic (DOPAC), homovanillic acid (HVA), serotonin and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) concentrations than did piglets fed the C- diets. Frontal cortex dopamine, norepinephrine, DOPAC, HVA, serotonin and 5-HIAA were higher in piglets fed the D+ compared to those fed the D- diet (P < 0.05) and not different between piglets fed the D+ and those fed the C- diets or the C- and C+ diets. Piglets fed the D- diet had lower frontal cortex phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylinositol (PI) 20:4(n-6) and PC and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) 22:6(n-3) than did piglets fed the C- diet (P < 0.05). Piglets fed the D+ diet had higher frontal cortex PC and PI 20:4(n-6) and PC, PE, PS and PI 22:6(n-3) than did piglets fed the D- diet. These studies show that dietary essential fatty acid deficiency fed for 18 d from birth affects frontal cortex neurotransmitters in rapidly growing piglets and that these changes are specifically due to 20:4(n-6) and/or 22:6(n-3).  相似文献

Dietary (n-6) and (n-3) fatty acids have been implicated as important regulators of bone metabolism. The main objective of this research was to define the response of whole-body growth, fatty acid status and bone mass to a reduced dietary (n-6):(n-3) fatty acid ratio. A secondary objective was to determine whether there is an amount of fat x fatty acid ratio interaction for these outcomes. Piglets (n = 32) were randomized to 1 of 4 diets: group 1: [30 g fat/L + (n-6):(n-3) ratio 4.5:1]; group 2: [30 g fat/L + (n-6):(n-3) ratio 9.0:1]; group 3: [60 g fat/L + (n-6):(n-3) ratio 4.5:1]; and group 4: [60 g fat/L + (n-6):(n-3) ratio 9.0:1]. After 21 d, outcomes assessed included growth, fatty acid status and bone mass and metabolism. Growth and bone mass did not differ among the four groups nor did arachidonic acid (AA as g/100 g fatty acids) in plasma, adipose and brain. Piglets fed diets 1 and 3 with the lower (n-6):(n-3) ratio had lower liver AA (P < 0.001). Those fed diets 1 and 2 containing 30 g fat/L had lower docosahexaenoic acid (DHA as g/100 g fatty acids) in liver (P < 0.001), plasma (P = 0.019) and adipose tissue (P = 0.045). However, piglets fed diets 1 and 3 had higher (P < 0.001) brain DHA than those fed diets with a higher (n-6):(n-3) ratio. Higher plasma DHA was associated with less bone resorption (r = -0.44, P = 0.01). Therefore, elevation of dietary (n-3) fatty acids supports growth and fatty acid status while not compromising bone mass. The results may be of relevance to the nutritional management of preterm infants whose DHA status is often too low and bone resorption too high.  相似文献

Maternal diet is the main source of fatty acids for developing offspring in-utero and in breastfed infants. Dairy products (DP) are important sources of fat in the European population diet. C15:0 and C17:0 fatty acids have been suggested as biomarkers of dairy fat consumption. This study’s aim is to describe the associations between maternal DP (milk included) consumption during pregnancy and C15:0, C17:0 and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) levels in perinatal biofluids. Study populations were composed of 1763, 1337 and 879 French mothers from the EDEN (“Étude des Déterminants pre- et post-natals de la santé de l’ENfant”) study, with data on maternal and cord red blood cells’ (RBC) membrane and colostrum, respectively. Associations were assessed using linear regression models adjusted for recruitment center, maternal age, healthy dietary pattern or fish consumption. Greater adherence to a ”cheese” consumption pattern was associated with lower linoleic acid level in colostrum and higher C15:0 and C17:0 levels but in a less consistent manner for C17:0 across biofluids. Greater adherence to “semi-skimmed milk, yogurt” and “reduced-fat DP” patterns was related to higher docosahexaenoic acid and total n-3 PUFA levels and lower n-6/n-3 long-chain PUFA ratio in maternal and cord RBC. Our results suggest that C15:0 could be a good biomarker of maternal dairy fat consumption in perinatal biofluids.  相似文献

Diets rich in linoleic acid (LA), an n-6 fatty acid, stimulate the progression of human breast cancer cell solid tumors in athymic nude mice, whereas docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid, long-chain n-3 fatty acids, exert suppressive effects. In the present study we used a novel source of DHA, in triglyceride form, to determine the effects of feeding low levels of the fatty acid on the growth of MDA-MB-231 cells injected into the thoracic mammary fat pads of female nude mice. Four different isocaloric diets were used, all of which provided 20% (wt/wt) total fat. The control diets contained 8% (20 mice) or 4% (50 mice) LA; the n-3 fatty acid-supplemented groups of 50 mice were fed 4% LA-containing diets plus 2% or 4% DHA. The tumor growth rates were reduced significantly in mice fed the 4% LA compared with the 8% LA diet; the addition of 4% DHA to the 4% LA-containing diet produced a further reduction in tumor growth rate (p < or = 0.003 at and after Week 6). The final tumor weights were also reduced in the DHA-fed mice compared with the 8% LA dietary group (2% DHA, p = 0.02; 4% DHA, p = 0.01) and in the 4% DHA-fed mice compared with the 4% LA control group (p = 0.02); a similar trend for mice fed the lower level of DHA did not achieve statistical significance. Tumor prostaglandin E2 concentrations were reduced by feeding the lower LA level; further dose-dependent decreases occurred in the DHA dietary groups and were accompanied by reduced levels of 12- and 15-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acids. These changes in eicosanoid biosynthesis may have been responsible for the observed decreases in cell proliferation, indicated by suppressed Ki-67 expression, and increases in apoptotic activity, as reflected in TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling immunohistochemical staining.  相似文献

Milk fat is usually considered to be proatherogenic, although its fatty acid composition can vary, due mainly to farming conditions. No study has evaluated whether such variation can modify the atherogenic properties of dairy fat. Aortic lipid deposition and related risk factors were examined in Syrian hamsters fed diets for 12 wk containing 200 g/kg of 2 commercial milk fats [high content of saturated fatty acids (HSF) and low content of saturated fatty acids (LSF)] contrasting, respectively, in total saturated fatty acids (72 vs. 67 g/100 g), 18:1, trans (4.24 vs. 7.26 g/100g), and conjugated linoleic acid (mainly cis-9,trans-11 or rumenic acid; 0.39 vs. 2.59 g/100 g). Hamsters fed the LSF-diet had 25% less aortic cholesteryl-ester deposition than those fed the HSF-diet; this was accompanied by an improved plasma cholesterol profile (lower LDL cholesterol and LDL:HDL cholesterol ratio), a lower local inflammatory status (aortic gene expression of cyclooxygenase-2), and lower aortic gene expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (all P < 0.05). Supplementation of the LSF-diet with rumenic acid (up to 9 g/kg) amplified the antiatherogenic effect of the original LSF-diet compared with the HSF-diet, i.e., less aortic cholesterol loading, increased reverse cholesterol transport potential (higher plasma HDL cholesterol concentration and ATP-binding cassette, subfamily A, transporter 1 gene expression in aorta), and decreased LDL-peroxidability index and gene expression of proinflammatory IL-1beta in the aorta (all P < 0.05). In conclusion, our results suggest that the atherogenic potential of milk fat can be greatly reduced in products with a naturally high abundance of rumenic acid, and argue for increasing this fatty acid in milk.  相似文献

The study aimed to evaluate the supplementation of gilts with cow’s milk naturally enriched with n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) on reproductive outcomes, and the serum biochemical and FA profile of swine females and their offspring. During 316 days, 30 gilts were distributed into three groups: (1) Control, fed a basal diet + milk from cows without oil; (2) n-3, fed a basal diet + milk from cows fed a diet enriched with linseed oil; (3) n-6, fed a basal diet + milk from cows fed a diet enriched with soybean oil. The gilts receiving the diets containing PUFA had higher serum urea and very-low-density lipoprotein levels and lower serum total protein and low-density lipoprotein levels compared to the Control group. Females supplemented with n-3 presented higher serum palmitic acid and γ-linolenic acid levels than those fed n-6. Piglets from the Control group were heavier at birth than those from females supplemented with enriched milk. The piglets from females receiving enriched milk had 140 g higher body weight from 1 to 21 days old compared to the Control group, and greater average daily weight gain from 7 to 14 days old. The serum eicosapentaenoic acid level of piglets fed n-3 was 69% higher than those fed n-6, which reduced the AA/EPA ratio. Gilts supplemented with PUFA-enriched cow’s milk showed changes in their serum palmitic and γ-linolenic acid levels, in addition to improved performance, EPA concentration and consequently reduced AA/EPA ratio in their piglets, demonstrating beneficial results for their progeny.  相似文献

The present study was conducted to determine the pattern of incorporation of dietary EPA and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) into milk, and to evaluate consequent changes in milk fat composition and sensory characteristics. Fourteen multiparous cows in early lactation were divided into two groups and were offered supplements for 10 d. While individual stalls after each morning milking, one group was offered a mixture of rumen-protected tuna oil (RPTO)-soyabean supplement (2 kg; 30:70, w/w; +RPTO) and the second group was offered the basal ration without RPTO (-RPTO). Both groups grazed together on a spring pasture after supplementation. Feeding supplemental RPTO increased the concentrations of EPA and DHA in milk fat from undetectable levels in -RPTO cows to 6.9 and 10.1 g/kg milk fat respectively. Total n-3 PUFA concentration in milk fat was increased three- to fourfold by tuna-oil supplementation (8.4 to 32.0 g/kg milk fat). There were no significant effects on milk production (35.4 v. 33.9 l/d), milk protein (28.2 v. 30.1 g/kg) or milk fat (36.2 v. 40.4 g/kg for -RPTO and +RPTO respectively). The concentration of total saturated fatty acids in milk fat was significantly reduced (568 v. 520 g/kg total fatty acids) and there was a 17 % reduction in the atherosclerotic index of milk after tuna-oil supplementation. Untrained consumer panellists (n 61) rated milk from both groups of cows similarly for taste and smell. We conclude that it is possible to enrich milk with n-3 PUFA without deleterious effects on yield, milk composition or sensory characteristics.  相似文献

Summary. Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCP) are considered conditionally essential nutrients for the infant born prematurely, and attempts are being made to match fatty acid profiles of formula and breast fed infants. In this double-blind, randomized study we investigated the effects of a formula enriched with both n-6 and n-3 LCP on plasma fatty acid profiles, antioxidant status and growth of premature infants. 29 infants received either a formula devoid of LCP or a LCP supplemented formula (0.5 g/100 g fat linoleic acid metabolites, 0.8 g/100 g fat -linolenic acid metabolites). 17 breast fed infants served as a control group. At study entry as well as two and four weeks later, plasma and urine samples were collected, growth data obtained and food tolerance was documented. At the end of the four week study period, plasma docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) levels of supplemented infants were significantly higher than those of unsupplemented infants and similar to those of infants fed human milk. Plasma n-6 LCP concentrations including arachidonic acid (AA) were similar between groups. The plasma -tocopherol levels of breast fed and supplemented infants were similar and tended to be lower than in infants fed the formula devoid of LCP. Urinary malondialdehyde (MDA) excretion of formula fed infants was significantly higher compared to infants fed human milk, but did not differ between the two formula groups. Parameters of growth and milk tolerance did not differ between groups. Milk from Malian Zebu cows was analysed during the dry and hot season (March–June) in order to assess its composition and the components variation according to the presence of subclinical mastitis and supplementary feeding. The Zebu cow milk (n=30) was composed of 8 g/kg ash, 43 g/kg fat, 48 g/kg lactosemonohydrate, 37 g/kg proteins and 134 g/kg total solids. One-third of the cows tested positive to subclinical mastitis (white blood cell count >350,000/mL). Milk components were significantly affected by the somatic cell count (decrease of lactosemonohydrate, increase of fat and total solids P<0.01). Supplementation of the diet of Zebu cows with low quantity of pasture straw significantly and positively affected milk composition. The fatty acids were composed of a high proportion of polyunsaturated, long-chain fatty acids (oleic acid). This indicates that Zebu cows at this period of the year mobilize body fat for milk production because of the energy deficit in their diet. Lack of supplementary feeding of the Zebu cows and subclinical mastitis appeared to be main constraints in the extensive livestock system in Mali.  相似文献
