Pain-related fear and pain catastrophizing are 2 central psychologic factors in fear-avoidance models. Our previous studies in healthy subjects indicated that pain-related fear, but not pain catastrophizing, was associated with cold pressor pain outcomes. The current study extends previous work by investigating pain-related fear and pain catastrophizing in a group of subjects with shoulder pain, and included concurrent measures of experimental and clinical pain. Fifty nine consecutive subjects seeking operative treatment of shoulder pain were enrolled in this study (24 women, mean age = 50.4, SD = 14.9). Subjects completed validated measures of pain-related fear, pain catastrophizing, and clinical pain intensity and then underwent a cold pressor task to determine experimental pain sensitivity. Multivariate regression models used sex, age, pain-related fear, and pain catastrophizing to predict experimental pain sensitivity and clinical pain intensity. Results indicated that only pain-related fear uniquely contributed to variance in experimental pain sensitivity (β = ?.42, P < .01). In contrast, sex (β = ?.29, P = .02) and pain catastrophizing (β = .43, P < .01) uniquely contributed to variance in clinical pain intensity. These data provide additional support for application of fear-avoidance models to subjects with shoulder pain. Our results also suggest that pain-related fear and pain catastrophizing may influence different components of the pain experience, providing preliminary support for recent theoretical conceptualizations of the role of pain catastrophizing.PerspectiveThis study provided additional information on how specific psychological variables potentially influence experimental and clinical pain. In this sample of subjects with shoulder pain, we replicated findings from our previous studies involving healthy subjects, as fear of pain was uniquely associated with experimental pain sensitivity. The current study sought to examine how changes in pain-related beliefs and coping responses are related to changes in pain interference and psychological functioning in individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI) and pain. To measure longitudinal changes in these variables, respondents completed a survey that included measures of pain intensity, pain interference, and psychological functioning, as well as specific psychosocial variables (pain-related beliefs, coping, and social support) and then completed the same survey 6 months later; analyses included only the individuals who reported pain at both times (n = 40). Demographic and injury-related variables were also assessed, but none were found to be significantly associated with changes in functioning. Changes in catastrophizing and belief in one's ability to control pain were each significantly associated with changes in the outcome variables: Greater pain interference and poorer psychological functioning. Changes in specific coping strategies and social support were not predictors of changes in pain, interference, or psychological functioning. These findings support a biopsychosocial model of pain in persons with SCI. Intervention studies targeting maladaptive pain-related beliefs and catastrophizing may help to identify the causal nature of these relationships and may improve multidisciplinary treatment of pain in SCI.

Perspective

Intervention studies targeting catastrophizing and maladaptive pain-related beliefs may be the next step in determining which variables play a causal role in the pain interference and psychological functioning of individuals with pain and SCI.  相似文献

The current study examined the utility of a biopsychosocial model of chronic pain, and the associations between specific pain-related beliefs, coping, and social support and both mental health and pain interference, in persons with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) and pain. A total of 157 patients completed surveys assessing physical and psychological functioning, as well as psychosocial, demographic, and injury-related variables. Greater catastrophizing and pain-related beliefs (eg, the belief that pain signals damage) were related with increased pain interference and poorer mental health, while coping styles (eg, resting, asking for assistance) were related only with pain interference. Alternatively, greater perceived social support was related with better mental health. The findings are consistent with a biopsychosocial model, implicating the need to consider the impact of process and clinical variables on adjustment to chronic pain in persons with SCI.PerspectiveThis article identifies several psychosocial variables, including coping, catastrophizing, pain-related beliefs, and social support that are related to adjustment in persons with SCI and pain. Investigated was the relationship between pain catastrophizing and pain intensity in adolescents suffering from chronic pain (n = 38) and the extent to which they expressed communicative pain and pain-related protective behaviours. Adolescents were observed on video performing a 2-Min Walk Test (2MWT). Behaviours were coded on videotape. The adolescents’ verbalizations about the 2MWT were also rated by their parents. Analyses revealed that higher levels of catastrophic thinking about pain were associated with higher levels of facial pain expressions and verbalizations about their pain experience, beyond the effects of age, gender, pain duration and pain intensity. Pain-related protective behaviours did not vary with the adolescents’ level of pain catastrophizing, but varied with pain intensity. The findings corroborate the functional distinctiveness of different types of pain behaviours. The results are discussed in terms of the processes linking (1) catastrophizing to communicative pain behaviours and (2) pain to pain-related protective behaviours.  相似文献

Pain appraisals are closely tied to pain and functional outcomes. Pain-related injustice and pain catastrophizing appraisals have both been identified as important cognitive-emotional factors in the pain experience of youth. Although pain-related injustice and catastrophizing have been linked to worse pain outcomes – as primary predictors and intermediary variables – little is known about whether they operate as independent or parallel mediators of the relationship between pain and functioning in youth. We tested pain-related injustice and catastrophizing appraisals as candidate mediators of the relationship between baseline pain intensity and 3-month functional outcomes in adolescents. Youth with chronic pain (N = 89, 76% female, 89% White, average age = 15 years) completed measures assessing pain intensity, pain-related injustice, and catastrophizing at baseline, as well as measures assessing functional disability and overall quality of life 3 months later. Multiple mediation analyses indicated that injustice mediated the relationship between pain intensity and 3 month quality of life. Exploratory analyses of specific quality of life domains indicated that injustice mediated the relationship between pain intensity and 3 month emotional functioning, whereas catastrophizing mediated the relationship between pain intensity and 3 month social functioning. The findings suggest these pain-related appraisals play different intermediary roles in the relationships among pain and future psychosocial outcomes.PerspectivePain-related injustice and catastrophizing appraisals play different intermediary roles in the relationships among pain and future psychosocial outcomes in youth with chronic pain. This is a secondary data analysis of a subgroup of participants who received the Learning About My Pain (LAMP) intervention (clinicaltrials.gov identifier NCT01967342). We examined the effects of LAMP on pre-to-post changes in biomedical and biopsychosocial pain conceptualization and whether those changes in pain conceptualization were associated with physical and psychological functioning. Participants were randomized into three conditions: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Pain Psychoeducation (EDU), or Usual Medical Care (UC). Results based on 225 participants who completed the Pain Concepts Questionnaire (PCQ) showed a pre-to-post reduction in biomedical pain conceptualization (BM), an increase in biopsychosocial pain conceptualization (BPS), and an increase in BPS/BM ratio for CBT and EDU but not UC. There were no differences between CBT and EDU in post-treatment PCQ scores. Compared to those with lower BM pain beliefs scores at post-treatment, participants endorsing higher BM pain beliefs scores reported greater pain intensity and greater pain interference. Furthermore, higher BM pain beliefs scores at post-treatment and lower BPS/BM ratio were associated with higher levels of pain catastrophizing. Overall, results of this study suggest the need for targeting specific pain beliefs that influence pain-related outcomes.PerspectiveThis article presents the potential benefits of providing literacy-adapted psychosocial treatments to expand pain conceptualization beyond a biomedical-only understanding and toward a biopsychosocial conceptualization of the experience of pain. BackgroundA growing body of evidence has demonstrated the importance of implementing movement-evoked pain in conventional pain assessments, with a significant role for psychological factors being suggested. Whether or not to include these factors in the assessment of movement-evoked pain has not yet been determined.ObjectivesThe aim of this systematic review is to explore the association between psychological factors and movement-evoked pain scores in people with musculoskeletal pain.MethodsFor this systematic review with meta-analysis, four electronic databases (PubMed, Medline, WOS, and Scopus) were searched. Cross-sectional studies, longitudinal cohort studies, and randomized controlled trials investigating the association between movement-evoked pain and psychological factors in adults with musculoskeletal pain were considered. Meta-analysis was conducted for outcomes with homogeneous data from at least 2 studies. Fischer-Z transformations were used as the measure of effect. Quality of evidence was assessed using the National Institutes of Health's Quality assessment tool for observational cohort and cross-sectional studies and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) framework.ResultsMeta-analyses and grading the quality of evidence revealed moderate evidence for a relation between movement-evoked pain and depressive symptoms (Fisher-z=0.27; 95%CI: 0.17, 0.36; 5 studies (n=440)), pain-related fear (Fisher-z=0.35; 95%CI: 0.26, 0.44; 6 studies (n=492)), and pain catastrophizing (Fisher-z=0.47; 95%CI: 0.36, 0.58; 4 studies (n=312)) in people with musculoskeletal pain.ConclusionsMovement-evoked pain is weakly to moderately associated to depressive symptoms, pain-related fear, and pain catastrophizing in people with musculoskeletal pain.  相似文献

Biopsychosocial models of chronic pain that recognize psychological and environmental factors as important aspects of adjustment to pain have been proposed for understanding chronic pain and related suffering in persons with multiple sclerosis (MS), but such models have not been empirically tested. The objective of this study was to test such a model by evaluating the associations of several psychosocial variables (i.e., pain-related catastrophizing, perceived social support, pain beliefs, and pain coping) with pain intensity, pain interference with functioning, and psychological functioning in persons with chronic pain and MS, after controlling for demographic and disease-related factors. Participants were 125 community-dwelling persons with MS and pain who completed a mailed questionnaire that included measures of pain intensity and interference, psychological functioning, catastrophizing, social support, and pain beliefs and coping. The psychosocial variables accounted for an additional 25% of the variance in average pain intensity after controlling for demographic and disease-related variables (p<.001). These variables explained an additional 22% of the variance in pain-related interference (p<.001) and 43% of the variance in psychological functioning (p<.001), after adjusting for demographic and MS-related variables and average pain intensity. Catastrophizing was consistently and independently associated with all criterion measures, whereas social support, pain beliefs, and pain coping were associated with some criterion measures but not others. The results provide empirical support for a biopsychosocial understanding of chronic pain in MS and suggest that specific psychosocial factors (e.g., catastrophizing) may be important regarding adjustment to pain in persons with MS.  相似文献

This study examined the degree to which pain catastrophizing and pain-related fear explain pain, psychological disability, physical disability, and walking speed in patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. Participants in this study were 106 individuals diagnosed as having OA of at least one knee, who reported knee pain persisting for six months or longer. Results suggest that pain catastrophizing explained a significant proportion (all Ps  0.05) of variance in measures of pain (partial r2 [pr2] = 0.10), psychological disability (pr2 = 0.20), physical disability (pr2 = 0.11), and gait velocity at normal (pr2 = 0.04), fast (pr2 = 0.04), and intermediate speeds (pr2 = 0.04). Pain-related fear explained a significant proportion of the variance in measures of psychological disability (pr2 = 0.07) and walking at a fast speed (pr2 = 0.05). Pain cognitions, particularly pain catastrophizing, appear to be important variables in understanding pain, disability, and walking at normal, fast, and intermediate speeds in knee OA patients. Clinicians interested in understanding variations in pain and disability in this population may benefit by expanding the focus of their inquiries beyond traditional medical and demographic variables to include an assessment of pain catastrophizing and pain-related fear.  相似文献

The present study examined the role of attention control in understanding the development of negatively-biased pain memories as well as its moderating role in the relationship between pain catastrophizing and negatively-biased pain memories. Youth with chronic pain (N = 105) performed a cold pressor task (CPT) and completed self-report measures of state/trait pain catastrophizing and attention control, with the latter comprising both attention focusing and attention shifting. Two weeks after the CPT, youth's pain-related memories were elicited via telephone allowing to compute pain and anxiety memory bias indices (ie, recalling pain intensity or pain-related anxiety, respectively, as higher than initially reported). Results indicated no main effects of attention control and pain catastrophizing on pain memories. However, both components of attention control (ie, attention focusing and attention shifting) moderated the impact of pain catastrophizing on youth's memory bias, with opposite interaction effects. Specifically, whereas high levels of attention shifting buffered the influence of high pain catastrophizing on the development of pain memory bias, high levels of attention focusing strengthened the influence of high pain catastrophizing on the development of anxiety memory bias. Interaction effects were confined to trait catastrophizing (ie, not state catastrophizing). Theoretical and clinical implications are discussed.PerspectiveThis article investigates the role of attention control in the development of negatively-biased pain memories in children with chronic pain. Findings underscore the importance of targeting differential components of attention control and can inform intervention efforts to minimize the development of negatively biased pain memories in youth with chronic pain.  相似文献

Catastrophizing is widely recognized as an important risk factor for adverse pain-related outcomes. However, questions remain surrounding the details of its assessment. In particular, recent laboratory studies suggest that evaluation of “situational” catastrophizing (ie, catastrophizing measured during or directly after the administration of noxious stimulation) may provide information distinct from that obtained by standard, or “dispositional” measures, which assess individuals' recall of catastrophizing in daily life. However, comparatively little research has systematically investigated the interrelationships and properties of these 2 different forms of pain-related catastrophizing. The current study evaluated both situational and dispositional catastrophizing measures within multiple samples: healthy individuals (N = 84), patients with painful temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD; N = 48), and patients with painful arthritis (N = 43). All participants first completed the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), and then underwent psychophysical pain testing, which included heat, cold, and pressure pain. Participants then completed a situational catastrophizing measure with reference to the laboratory pain he/she had just undergone. Situational catastrophizing scores were not significantly correlated with dispositional PCS scores in the healthy participants and arthritis patients, though they were associated in TMD patients. Situational catastrophizing was more strongly associated with experimental pain responses than dispositional PCS scores for the healthy subjects and arthritis patients. In general, higher levels of situational catastrophizing were associated with lower pain thresholds and higher pain ratings across all 3 samples. The findings highlight the importance of multidimensional assessment of pain-related catastrophizing, and suggests a role for measuring catastrophizing related to specific, definable events.PerspectiveThis study adds to a growing literature examining catastrophizing. Little research has examined the role of patient cognitive and behavioral responses, including catastrophizing, in adjustment to chronic pain associated with spinal cord injury (SCI). The objective of this study was to examine the associations of catastrophizing and specific pain coping strategies with pain intensity, psychological distress, and pain-related disability among individuals with chronic pain and SCI, after controlling for important demographic and SCI-related variables that might affect outcomes. Participants in this study were 174 community residents with SCI and chronic pain who completed a mailed questionnaire that included the SF-36 Mental Health scale, Coping Strategies Questionnaire, and Graded Chronic Pain Scale. The pain coping and catastrophizing measures explained an additional 29% of the variance in pain intensity after adjusting for the demographic and SCI variables (P<0.001). The coping and catastrophizing scales accounted for an additional 30% of the variance in psychological distress (P<0.001) and 11% of the variance in pain-related disability (P<0.001), after controlling for pain intensity and demographic and SCI variables. Catastrophizing, but not any other single pain coping strategy, was consistently strongly and independently associated with the outcome measures. Potentially, the assessment and treatment of catastrophizing may reduce psychological distress and pain-related disability among individuals with chronic pain and SCI.  相似文献

Pain is a debilitating condition affecting millions each year, yet what predisposes certain individuals to be more sensitive to pain remains relatively unknown. Several psychological factors have been associated with pain perception, but the structural relations between multiple higher- and lower-order constructs and pain are not well understood. Thus, we aimed to examine the associations between pain perception using the cold pressor task (CPT), higher-order personality traits (neuroticism, negative affectivity, trait anxiety, extraversion, positive affectivity, psychoticism), and lower-order pain-related psychological constructs (pain catastrophizing [pre- and post-], fear of pain, anxiety sensitivity, somatosensory amplification, hypochondriasis) in 66 pain-free adults. Factor analysis revealed 3 latent psychological variables: pain- or body-sensitivity, negative affect/neuroticism, and positive affect/extraversion. Similarly, pain responses factored into 3 domains: intensity, quality, and tolerance. Regression and correlation analyses demonstrated that: 1) all the lower-order pain constructs (fear, catastrophizing, and hypochondriasis) are related through a single underlying latent factor that is partially related to the higher-order negative-valence personality traits; 2) pain- or body-sensitivity was more strongly predictive of pain quality than higher-order traits; and 3) the form of pain assessment is important—only qualitative pain ratings were significantly predicted by the psychological factors.PerspectiveConsistent with the biopsychosocial model, these results suggest multiple pain-related psychological measures likely assess a common underlying factor, which is more predictive of qualitative than intensity pain ratings. This information may be useful for the development and advancement of pain assessments and treatments while considering the multidimensional nature of pain.  相似文献

The current cross-sectional study investigates whether pain catastrophizing mediates the relationship between ethnicity/race and pain, disability and physical function in individuals with knee osteoarthritis. Furthermore, this study examined mediation at 2-year follow-up. Participants included 187 community-dwelling adults with unilateral or bilateral knee pain who screened positive for knee osteoarthritis. Participants completed several self-reported pain-related measures and pain catastrophizing subscale at baseline and 2-year follow-up. Non-Hispanic Black (NHB) adults reported greater pain, disability, and poorer functional performance compared to their non-Hispanic White (NHW) counterparts (Ps < .05). NHB adults also reported greater catastrophizing compared to NHW adults. Mediation analyses revealed that catastrophizing mediated the relationship between ethnicity/race and pain outcome measures. Specifically, NHB individuals reported significantly greater pain and disability, and exhibited lower levels of physical function, compared to NHW individuals, and these differences were mediated by higher levels of catastrophizing among NHB persons. Catastrophizing was a significant predictor of pain and disability 2-years later in both ethnic/race groups. These results suggest that pain catastrophizing is an important variable to consider in efforts to reduce ethnic/race group disparities in chronic pain. The findings are discussed in light of structural/systemic factors that may contribute to greater self-reports of pain catastrophizing among NHB individuals.PerspectiveThe current study examines whether pain catastrophizing mediates the relationship between ethnicity/race and OA-related pain, disability, and functional impairment at baseline and during a 2-year follow-up period in non-Hispanic Black and non-Hispanic White adults with knee pain. Native Americans (NAs) have a higher prevalence of chronic pain than any other U.S. racial/ethnic group; however, little is known about the mechanisms for this pain disparity. This study used quantitative sensory testing to assess pain experience in healthy, pain-free adults (n = 137 NAs (87 female), n = 145 non-Hispanic whites (NHW; 68 female)) after painful electric, heat, cold, ischemic, and pressure stimuli. After each stimulus, ratings of pain intensity, sensory pain, affective pain, pain-related anxiety, and situation-specific pain catastrophizing were assessed. The results suggested that NAs reported greater sensory pain in response to suprathreshold electric and heat stimuli, greater pain-related anxiety to heat and ischemic stimuli, and more catastrophic thoughts in response to electric and heat stimuli. Sex differences were also noted; however, with the exception of catastrophic thoughts to cold, these finding were not moderated by race/ethnicity. Together, findings suggest NAs experience heightened sensory, anxiety, and catastrophizing reactions to painful stimuli. This could place NAs at risk for future chronic pain and could ultimately lead to a vicious cycle that maintains pain (eg, pain → anxiety/catastrophizing → pain).PerspectiveNAs experienced heightened sensory, anxiety, and catastrophizing reactions in response to multiple pain stimuli. The degree of pain catastrophizing was also evaluated in CRPS patients.ResultsThe structural integrity of the prefrontal white matter was lower in CRPS patients than in patients without CRPS (P=.03). In addition, lower structural integrity in the prefrontal cortex was correlated with a higher degree of pain catastrophizing among CRPS patients (r= ?0.54, P=.01).ConclusionsOur findings suggest that pain catastrophizing, which is frequently reported in patients with CRPS, may be associated with the dysfunction of the prefrontal white matter.  相似文献

Theoretical frameworks explain how pain-related psychological factors may influence the physical performance. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we evaluated the evidence regarding the relationship between the pain-related psychological factors and the maximal physical performance in patients with low back pain (LBP). Pubmed, Embase, CINAHL and Web of Science databases were searched from inception to May 2022. Cross-sectional or longitudinal studies reporting cross-sectional measures of association between at least one pain-related psychological factor and a quantitatively measured outcome of maximal physical performance in patients with LBP were eligible for inclusion. Thirty-eight studies (n = 2,490; 27 cross-sectional studies, n = 1,647 (66%); 11 longitudinal studies, n = 843 (34%)) were included, with 92% of participants (n = 2,284) having chronic LBP. Results showed that pain-related fear, pain catastrophizing, and anticipated pain were consistently and negatively associated with the maximal physical performance in chronic LBP, whereas pain-self efficacy showed positive correlations. Overall, magnitudes of absolute pooled r-values were small (r ≤ 0.25), except for anticipated pain, which was moderately associated with maximal physical performance (r = -0.34 to -0.37). Subanalyses and sensitivity analyses yielded similar pooled correlation coefficients. Certainty of evidence using the GRADE recommendations was very low to moderate for pain-related fear, and very low to low for the other pain-related psychological factors.Prospero registration: CRD42021227486.PerspectiveOverall, small pooled correlation coefficients were shown between pain-related psychological factors and maximal physical performance in chronic LBP. Certainty of evidence was very low to low for all pain-related psychological factors other than pain-related fear. Over 50% of adolescents with chronic pain report comorbid sleep disturbances (eg, difficulties with falling asleep), which is associated with increased pain-related disability and poorer quality of life. However, limited longitudinal data are available to understand how sleep disturbance may impact response to psychological treatment. Our primary hypothesis was that baseline sleep disturbances would significantly modify how adolescents responded to an internet-delivered psychological intervention for chronic pain in terms of outcome trajectories. The sample included 85 adolescents, 12 to 17 years, with chronic pain recruited from a multidisciplinary pain clinic and headache clinic who received access to an internet-delivered psychological intervention for chronic pain. Baseline sleep assessment included actigraphy monitoring for 7 days and survey measures. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 8 weeks, and 3 months including core pain-related outcomes, executive functioning, fatigue, positive and negative affect. Results demonstrated that greater baseline insomnia and poorer sleep quality was associated with worse outcome trajectories for pain-related disability, depression, anxiety, fatigue, negative affect, and executive functioning. Findings extend the limited studies that examine how sleep disturbance may modify effectiveness of psychological treatments for adolescent chronic pain and emphasize the importance of treating comorbid sleep disturbance. This trial was registered at clinicaltrials.gov (NCT04043962).PerspectiveOur study suggests that sleep deficiency, in particular insomnia and poor sleep quality, may modify the effectiveness of psychological treatments for chronic pain, highlighting the urgent need to screen youth for sleep problems prior to initiating treatment, and to consider implementation of sleep-specific treatments such as cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia.  相似文献

Despite growing evidence of significant racial disparities in the experience and treatment of chronic pain, the mechanisms by which these disparities manifest have remained relatively understudied. The current study examined the relationship between past experiences of racial discrimination and pain-related outcomes (self-rated disability and depressive symptomatology) and tested the potential mediating roles of pain catastrophizing and perceived injustice related to pain. Analyses consisted of cross-sectional path modeling in a multiracial sample of 137 individuals with chronic low back pain (Hispanics: n = 43; blacks: n = 43; whites: n = 51). Results indicated a positive relationship between prior discriminatory experiences and severity of disability and depressive symptoms. In mediation analyses, pain-related appraisals of injustice, but not pain catastrophizing, were found to mediate these relationships. Notably, the association between discrimination history and perceived injustice was significantly stronger in black and Hispanic participants and was not statistically significant in white participants. The findings suggest that race-based discriminatory experiences may contribute to racial disparities in pain outcomes and highlight the specificity of pain-related, injustice-related appraisals as a mechanism by which these experiences may impair physical and psychosocial function. Future research is needed to investigate temporal and causal mechanisms suggested by the model through longitudinal and clinical intervention studies.PerspectiveMore frequent prior experiences of racial discrimination are associated with greater depressive symptomatology and pain-related disability in individuals with chronic low back pain. BackgroundMusculoskeletal pain (MSP) is the largest contributor to chronic pain and frequently occurs alongside other medical comorbidities.ObjectiveExplore the relationships between the presence of pain-related comorbidities, pain intensity, and pain-related psychological distress in patients with MSP.MethodsA longitudinal assessment of individuals 18–90 years old in the Midwestern United States beginning a new episode of physical therapy for MSP. Electronic medical records were assessed the full year prior for care-seeking of diagnoses for pain-related comorbidities (anxiety, metabolic disorder, chronic pain, depression, nicotine dependence, post-traumatic stress disorder, sleep apnea, and sleep insomnia). Pain intensity and pain-related psychological distress (Optimal Screening for Prediction of Referral and Outcome - Yellow Flags tool) were captured during the physical therapy evaluation. Generalized linear models were used to assess the association between pain intensity, psychological distress, and pain-related co-morbidities. Models were adjusted for variables shown in the literature to influence pain.Results532 participants were included in the cohort (56.4% female; median age of 59 years, Interquartile Range [IQR]:47, 69). Comorbid depression (beta coefficient (β) = 0.7; 95%CI: 0.2, 1.2), spine versus lower extremity pain ((β = 0.6; 95%CI: 0.1, 1.1), and prior surgery (β = 0.8, 95%CI: 0.3, 1.4) were associated with higher pain intensity scores. No pain-related comorbidities were associated with pain-related psychological distress (yellow flag count or number of domains). Female sex was associated with less pain-related psychological distress (β = −0.2, 95%CI: −0.3, −0.02).ConclusionsDepression was associated with greater pain intensity. No comorbidities were able to account for the extent of pain-related psychological distress.  相似文献
