Different aggregate gradations of asphalt concrete possess dissimilar skeleton structures, leading to diverse macroscopic and mechanical characteristics. Acoustic emission (AE) technology can realize real-time monitoring of the whole damage evolution process of materials. The objective of the present investigation was to demonstrate the fracture characteristics of asphalt concrete with three types of aggregate gradations, including dense-graded asphalt concrete (AC), stone mastic asphalt (SMA), and open-graded friction course (OGFC) under indirect tensile load on account of the acoustic emission (AE) technique. The Marshall compaction method was used to prepare specimens, and the indirect tensile test (IDT) and AE monitoring were conducted simultaneously at different temperatures. The corresponding AE parameters containing energy, cumulative energy, count, and cumulative count were adopted to characterize the fracture process of asphalt concrete with different aggregate gradations. The impact of temperature on the damage characteristics of asphalt concrete was also assessed. Test results indicated that the AE parameters could effectively classify the damage stages of asphalt concrete, and specimens with different aggregate gradations exhibited different AE characteristics during failure processes. The combination of AE parameters and cumulative AE parameters can accurately characterize the damage characteristics of asphalt concrete. SMA specimens possessed the best overall performance among these three types of asphalt concrete in terms of the variations in energy and cumulative energy at different temperatures. The findings obtained in this study can provide a practical AE-based evaluation approach for demonstrating the fracture mechanism of asphalt concrete with different aggregate gradations.  相似文献

It is now more popular to use basalt fibers in the engineering programs to reinforce the crack resistance of asphalt mixtures. However, research concerning the impact of the basalt fiber diameter on the macro performance of AC-13 mixtures is very limited. Therefore, in this paper, basalt fibers with three diameters, including 7, 13 and 25 μm, were selected to research the influences of fiber diameter on the crack resistance of asphalt mixtures. Different types of crack tests, such as the low temperature trabecular bending test (LTTB), the indirect tensile asphalt cracking test (IDEAL-CT), and the semi-circular bend test (SCB), were conducted to reveal the crack resistance of AC-13 mixtures. The entire cracking process was recorded through the digital image correlation (DIC) technique, and the displacement cloud pictures, strain, average crack propagation rate (V) and fracture toughness (FT) indicators were used to evaluate the crack inhibition action of the fiber diameter on the mixture. The results showed that the incorporation of basalt fiber substantially improved the crack resistance, slowed down the increase of the displacement, and delayed the fracture time. Basalt fiber with a diameter of 7 μm presented the best enhancement capability on the crack resistance of the AC-13 mixture. The flexibility index (FI) of the SCB test showed a good correlation with V and FT values of DIC test results, respectively. These findings provide theoretical advice for the popularization and engineering application of basalt fibers in asphalt pavement.  相似文献

The paper aims to investigate the influence of basalt fiber (BF) on the crack resistance of the asphalt mixture and conduct a mechanical analysis. First, two typical asphalt mixtures, namely AC-13 and SMA-13, were designed. The impact of BF on the mixture design results was analyzed. Then, several macroscopic tests, namely the four-point bending test, indirect tensile test, and semicircular bending test (SCB), were conducted to assess the effect of BF on the cracking resistance of asphalt mixtures. Finally, the influence of BF on the cracking resistance of asphalt mixtures was analyzed based on an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) observation. The results show that: (1) BF increases the optimal asphalt content of AC13 and decreases the optimal asphalt content of SMA-13, which is caused by the different asphalt-absorption capacity of BF and lignin fiber (LF). (2) BF enhances both the fatigue crack resistance and temperature crack resistance of asphalt mixtures. The enhancement on the SMA-13 is more significant, indicating that the enhancement of BF on asphalt mixtures is related to the type of aggregate gradation. (3) BFs in the asphalt mixture lap each other to form a spatial network structure. Such structure can effectively improve the crack resistance of the mixture by dispersing the load stress and preventing the flow of asphalt mastic. The study results provide an effective method to design crack-resistant asphalt mixtures.  相似文献

With steel fiber and basalt fiber volume dosing serving as variation parameters, a total of 200 d cycles of acid rain corrosion cycle tests were conducted on fiber concrete in this study. We selected three durability evaluation parameters to assess the degree of damage deterioration on fiber concrete, used scanning electron microscopy, mercury intrusion porosimetry, and a dimensional microhardness meter to analyze the concrete micromorphology, and established a GM(1,1)-Markov model for life prediction of its durability. Results reveal that the acid rain environment is the most sensitive to the influence of the relative dynamic elastic modulus evaluation parameter, and concrete has specimens that show failure damage under this parameter evaluation. Incorporation of fibers can reduce the amount of corrosion products inside the concrete, decrease the proportion of harmful pores, optimize the mean pore-size, and significantly improve the resistance to acid rain attack. Concrete with 2% steel fiber and 0.1% basalt fiber by volume has the least change in durability damage, and the predicted service life by GM(1,1)-Markov model is 322 d.  相似文献

Freeze–thaw (F–T) cycling and aging effects are the main factors contributing to the deterioration of asphalt mixtures. The acoustic emission (AE) technique enables real-time detection regarding the evolution of internal damage in asphalt mixtures during the loading process. This study set out to investigate the effects of F–T cycling and aging on the damage characteristics of asphalt mixture under splitting loads. Firstly, the Marshall specimens were prepared and then exposed to various numbers of F–T cycles (one, three, five, and seven) and different durations of aging (short-term aging and long-term aging for 24, 72, 120 and 168 h), after which the specimens were loaded by means of indirect tensile (IDT) testing, and corresponding parameters were synchronously collected by the AE acquisition system during the fracture process. Finally, the energy, cumulative energy and peak frequency were selected to investigate the damage mechanisms of asphalt mixtures. The findings demonstrate that the AE parameters provided effective identification of the deterioration for all specimens in real-time, and that the F–T cycling and aging effects altered the damage characteristics of asphalt mixtures, causing early damage, exacerbating the formation of micro-cracks in the early stage, accelerating the expansion of macro-cracks and advancing the debonding between the asphalt and aggregates. The findings of this study provide further insight into the mechanism of F–T cycling and aging effects on the deterioration of asphalt mixture.  相似文献

In this paper, the tensile damage and fracture behavior of carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide (C/SiC) minicomposites with single- and multiple-layer interphases are investigated. The effect of the interphase on the tensile damage and fracture behavior of C/SiC minicomposites is analyzed. The evolution of matrix cracking under the tensile load of the C/SiC minicomposite with a notch is observed using the digital image correlation (DIC) method. The damage evolution process of the C/SiC minicomposite can be divided into four main stages, namely, (1) an elastic response coupled with partial re-opening of thermal microcracking; (2) multiple matrix microcracking perpendicular to the applied loading; (3) crack opening and related fiber/matrix, bundle/matrix, and inter-bundle debonding; and (4) progressive transfer of the load to the fibers and gradual fiber failure until composite failure/fracture. On the fracture surface, a large number of fibers pulling out of the samples with both single-layer and multi-layer interphases can be clearly observed.  相似文献

This study aimed to determine the influence of the volume fraction of steel fibers on the fracture parameters of concrete. Fifty notched steel-fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams and ordinary concrete beams with 100 mm × 100 mm × 515 mm were cast and tested via a three-point bending test. Among them, the type of steel fiber was the milling type (MF), and the volume fraction of steel fiber added was 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5% and 2%, respectively. The effects of the steel fiber volume fraction (VF) on the critical stress intensity factor (KIC), fracture energy (GF), the deflection at failure(δ0), the critical crack mouth opening displacement (CMODC) and the critical crack tip opening displacement (CTODC) were studied. Through the analysis of test phenomena and test data such as the load-deflection (P-δ) curve, load-crack mouth opening displacement (P-CMOD) curve and load-crack tip opening displacement (P-CTOD) curve, the following conclusions are drawn: with the increase of the steel fiber volume fraction, some fracture parameters increase gradually and maintain a certain linear growth. The gain ratio of the fracture parameters increases significantly, and the gain effect is obvious. Through this law of growth, the experimental statistical formulas of fracture energy and the critical stress intensity factor are summarized.  相似文献

Orthogonal experiments were designed for hybrid fiber rubber concrete (HFRC). The mechanical properties of HFRC were tested and compared with ordinary concrete. The effects of basalt fiber volume ratio (VBF), PVA fiber volume ratio (VPF) and rubber volume ratio (VR) on the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and flexural strength of HFRC were analyzed. The results show that the strength of HFRC is the best when the volume ratio of basalt fiber is 0.3%, the volume ratio of PVA fiber is 0.2% and the volume ratio of rubber is 5%. Basalt fiber has the greatest influence on the strength of HFRC. The strength of HFRC mixed with hybrid fiber is greatly improved, which reflects the good fiber “positive hybrid effect”. With the increase of rubber volume ratio, the strength of HFRC decreases gradually. With the help of SEM and EDS, the toughening and cracking resistance mechanism of the fiber to HFRC was analyzed. Finally, the strength of HFRC was predicted by model.  相似文献

Basalt fiber has been widely used in asphalt mixture due to its excellent mechanical properties and good combination with asphalt. In order to systematically evaluate the enhancement effect of basalt fiber on the fatigue performance of the mixtures, gradations of Stone Mastic Asphalt and Superpave with different nominal maximum aggregate sizes, namely SMA-13, SUP-20 and SUP-25, were prepared, and a four-point bending beam fatigue test was adopted under the strain control mode. The fatigue damage mode was assessed based on the phenomenology theory, energy dissipation theory and change rate of dissipated energy. The results showed that basalt fiber could well increase the fatigue life of the mixtures. Basalt fiber could also increase the cumulative dissipated energy of the mixtures, and it was linearly correlated with the fatigue life in double logarithmic coordinates. In the meantime, adding basalt fiber could increase the change rate of dissipated energy of the mixtures. Furthermore, it is not appropriate to take the stiffness modulus declined to 50% of the original as the fatigue failure criterion of the mixture; this paper suggested that it is reasonable when the stiffness modulus was 15–25% that of the initial. These findings provide a theoretical basis for exploring the fatigue failure of asphalt pavements.  相似文献

The physical and mechanical characteristics of expanded-clay lightweight concrete based on a supersulfated binder in comparison with lightweight concrete based on ordinary Portland cement were studied. In replacing CEM 32.5 with a supersulfated binder of 6000 cm2/g specific surface, one can increase the tensile strength in bending up to 20% and can increase the ratio of the tensile strength in bending to the compressive strength that indicates the crack resistance increase of concrete. Compressive strengths at the age of 28 days were equal to 17.0 MPa and 16.6 MPa for the supersulfated binder of 3500 cm2/g specific surface and CEM 32.5, respectively. Shrinkage deformation of hardening concrete, indicators of fracture toughness, frost resistance, and thermal conductivity were determined during the experimental works. The coefficient of thermal conductivity decreased up to 12% compared to the use of CEM 32.5. An enhancement in concrete properties was associated with the increase of supersulfated binder fineness.  相似文献

The acoustic emission method has been adopted for detection of damage mechanisms in carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer composite tubes during the three-point bending test. The damage evolution process of the individual samples has been monitored using the acoustic emission method, which is one of the non-destructive methods. The obtained data were then subjected to a two-step technique, which combines the unsupervised pattern recognition approach utilizing the short-time frequency spectra with the boundary curve enabling the already clustered data to be additionally filtered. The boundary curve identification has been carried out on the basis of preliminary tensile tests of the carbon fiber sheafs, where, by overlapping the force versus time dependency by the acoustic emission activity versus time dependency, it was possible to identify the boundary which will separate the signals originating from the fiber break from unwanted secondary sources. The application of the presented two-step method resulted in the identification of the failure mechanisms such as matrix cracking, fiber break, decohesion, and debonding. Besides the comparison of the results with already published research papers, the study presents the comprehensive parametric acoustic emission signal analysis of the individual clusters.  相似文献

This study investigates the effects of adding different types of fibers to concrete mixes on the shear behavior of double-span fiber-reinforced concrete beams with or without shear reinforcement. As a part of the experimental study, a total of twenty-seven natural-scale double-span beams were tested. The beams, made of concrete with steel or basalt fiber, with fiber dosages of 78.5 and 5 kg/m3, were tested under shear force. The three tested series consisted of three beams with dimensions of 120 × 300 × 4150 mm, with various numbers of stirrups and contents of fiber reinforcement. During the tests, the shear capacity of the elements was determined. The values of support reactions, deflection in the middle of the span of both beam spans, deformations on the surface of the concrete member in the middle of the span in the compressive and tensile zone, and cracking (crack development and crack width) were also measured. The beams were tested using a digital image correlation (DIC) technique. Test results show that shear capacity increases in beams made of concrete with steel (1.87) or basalt fibers (1.23). Moreover, the failure mode changes from shear (brittle) to flexure-shear (less brittle). The experimental shear capacity of beams was compared with the theoretical values predicted by different design codes, i.e., fib Model Code 2010 and RILEM TC 162-TDF 2003. The results show that all the design codes underestimate the contribution of fiber-reinforced concrete beams to shear resistance and greatly overestimate the contribution of shear reinforcement.  相似文献

This paper aims to better analyze the crack resistance of lignin fiber reinforced SMA-13 (LFSMA-13) asphalt mixtures, with and without polymer anti-rut agent (ARA), under different aging degrees. IDEAL-CT test and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were utilized to analyze the relationships between the crack resistance of LFSMA-13, with and without ARA, and the parameters of the FTIR spectrum of the asphalt extracted from the test samples. A convenient testing method to predict the anti-crack ability of the mixtures in a road was also derived in this study. The test samples were prepared using the specifications listed by AASHTO. The fracture formation work (Winitial) and cracking index (CTIndex) in the IDEAL-CT test were adopted to reflect the cracking ability of the asphalt mixtures in both the crack formation stage and the crack propagation stage. The peak areas of the FTIR spectrum were utilized to reveal the chemical properties of the asphalt material inside the SMA-13 asphalt mixtures, with and without ARA under different aging degrees. Grey correlation analysis was adopted to choose the most suitable FTIR spectrum parameters to derive the prediction models of Winitial and CTIndex under different aging degrees. After conducting a series of tests, the results showed that the aging process could well affect the crack resistance of the test samples and the peak areas of the asphalt extracted from the mixtures. The FTIR parameters selected from the grey correlation analysis could be used to well predict the anti-crack ability of the asphalt mixtures.  相似文献

This study characterized the damage characteristics of carbon fiber composite pressure vessels by the modal acoustic emission (MAE) method. The study showed how to use the extracted damage modal features and established MAE parameters to determine the damage mode of composite pressure vessels. First, the A0 and S0 Lamb modes of the AE signal were split through mode separation, and the time window was selected to establish the MAE characteristic parameters. Subsequently, based on the MAE parameters and the damage mode characteristics established from single damage experiments, a damage mode discrimination method was established. A bending test of carbon fiber composite laminates proved that the modal separation method and the MAE parameters establishment are reasonable and effective. The results from the hydraulic test of the graded loading performed on 20 MPa carbon fiber composite pressure vessels showed the accuracy of the damage mode discrimination method, and the damage state of the pressure vessel could be analyzed using the fiber fracture damage threshold according to the MAE parameters.  相似文献

The work aimed to assess the failure progress in a glass fiber-reinforced polymer laminate with a 3D-woven and (as a comparison) plain-woven reinforcement, during static bending, using acoustic emission signals. The innovative method of the separation of the signal coming from the fiber fracture and the one coming from the matrix fracture with the use of the acoustic event’s energy as a criterion was applied. The failure progress during static bending was alternatively analyzed by evaluation of the vibration signal. It gave a possibility to validate the results of the acoustic emission. Acoustic emission, as well as vibration signal analysis proved to be good and effective tools for the registration of failure effects in composite laminates. Vibration analysis is more complicated methodologically, yet it is more precise. The failure progress of the 3D laminate is “safer” and more beneficial than that of the plain-woven laminate. It exhibits less rapid load capacity drops and a higher fiber effort contribution at the moment of the main laminate failure.  相似文献

As essential load-bearing equipment to support the nacelle and blades, the tower is subjected to the whole wind turbine loading. This study proposes a new method of combining acoustic emission and normalized accumulation parameters to characterize wind turbine towers Q345 steel damage. First of all, tendency analysis of the acoustic emission signal parameter was conducted to determine damage degree during the damage stage. Secondly, we normalized the accumulation of amplitude and other parameters to compare the proportion of each accumulation parameter at different stages, while studying the spectra of common acoustic emission signals. Finally, comparing the differences and similarities of the normalized accumulation parameters between three different rates, we analyze the effect of rate on the normalized accumulation parameters. These results indicate that the normalized cumulative duration parameter is suitable for characterizing the yield damage occurrence, the normalized cumulative energy parameter is very sensitive to the fracture stage, the normalized cumulative energy parameter is least influenced by the loading rate, and the energy parameter is a sensitivity factor for normalized expression, which to realizes the stage of damage judgment.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of an experimental program aimed at the assessment of the freeze–thaw (F–T) resistance of concrete based on the evaluation of fracture tests accompanied by acoustic emission measurements. Two concretes of similar mechanical characteristics were manufactured for the experiment. The main difference between the C1 and C2 concrete was in the total number of air voids and in the A300 parameter, where both parameters were higher for C1 by about 35% and 52%, respectively. The evaluation of the fracture characteristics was performed on the basis of experimentally recorded load–deflection and load–crack mouth opening displacement diagrams using two different approaches: linear fracture mechanics completed with the effective crack model and the double-K model. The results show that both approaches gave similar results, especially if the nonlinear behavior before the peak load was considered. According to the results, it can be stated that continuous AE measurement is beneficial for the assessment of the extent of concrete deterioration, and it suitably supplements the fracture test evaluation. A comparison of the results of fracture tests with the resonance method and splitting tensile strength test shows that all testing methods led to the same conclusion, i.e., the C1 concrete was more F–T-resistant than C2. However, the fracture test evaluation provided more detailed information about the internal structure deterioration due to the F–T exposure.  相似文献

This contribution aims to analyze the deterioration behaviour of steel fibre-reinforced high-performance concrete (HPC) in both experiments as well as numerical simulations. For this purpose, flexural tensile tests are carried out on beams with different fibre contents and suitable damage indicators are established to describe and calibrate the damage behaviour numerically using a phase-field model approach. In addition to conventional measurement methods, the tests are equipped with acoustic emission sensors in order to obtain a more precise picture of crack evolution by observing acoustic events. It is shown that, in addition to classical damage indicators, such as stiffness degradation and absorbed energy, various acoustic indicators, such as the acoustic energy of individual crack events, can also provide information about the damage progress. For the efficient numerical analysis of the overall material behaviour of fibre-reinforced HPC, a phenomenological material model is developed. The data obtained in the experiments are used to calibrate and validate the numerical model for the simulation of three-point bending beam tests. To verify the efficiency of the presented numerical model, the numerical results are compared with the experimental data, e.g., load-CMOD curves and the degradation of residual stiffness.  相似文献

This study analyzed failure behavior using Ib-values obtained from acoustic emission (AE) signals. Carbon fiber/epoxy specimens were fabricated and tested under tensile loads, during which AE signals were collected. The dominant peak frequency exhibited a specific range according to fracture mode, depending on the fiber structures. Cross-ply specimens, with all fracture modes, were used and analyzed using b- and Ib-values. The b-values decreased over the specimens’ entire lifetime. In contrast, the Ib-values decreased to 60% of the lifetime, and then increased because of the different fracture behaviors of matrix cracking and fiber fracture, demonstrating the usefulness of Ib-values over b-values. Finally, it was confirmed that abnormal conditions could be analyzed more quickly using failure modes classified by Ib-values, rather than using full AE data.  相似文献

The paper presents the influence of laboratory aging simulation on fracture properties determined on 150 variants of asphalt mixtures. The fracture properties were determined by two different test approaches—semi-circular bending test (SCB test) and three-point bending test on beam specimens (3-PB test). The aging was simulated according to one of the methods defined in EN 12697-52 (storage of test specimens in chamber at temperature of 85 °C for 5 days). The evaluated group of variants covered asphalt mixtures for all road layers. The group was further divided according to used bituminous binder (unmodified vs. modified) and reclaimed asphalt content. The results showed that strength parameters (flexural strength and fracture toughness) increase with aging. It further shows that fracture work provides more complex information about the cracking behavior. For the aging indexes, it was found that for mixtures with modified binders and mixtures which did not contain reclaimed asphalt (RA), the values were higher. The aging indexes for fracture work showed different results for both performed tests.  相似文献
