A rare case of large, unusual, and mutilating verruca vulgaris with cutaneous horns treated with plastic surgery

Cutaneous horn is a morphologic designation for a protuberant mass of keratin produced by unusual cohesiveness of keratinized material. We report a rare case of large, unusual, and mutilating verruca vulgaris with cutaneous horns in a 39-year-old male peasant. To our knowledge, this is the first case of the underlying phalangeal bones being largely demolished, resulting in serious mutilation. The patient was successfully treated with plastic surgery. Of note in this case is the bone absorption of the terminal phalanges and loss of hand function.     

Localization of Peutz-Jeghers macules to psoriatic plaques

We report a case of the Peutz-Jeghers syndrome in which the characteristic pigmented macules developed within preexisting psoriatic plaques in sites extremely unusual for the syndrome. To our knowledge, ours is the first report of such a case in the English literature.     

Squamous cell carcinoma of supraglottic larynx with metastasis to all five distal phalanges of left hand

Subcutaneous metastasis from carcinoma larynx is a rare presentation and to the phalynx is the rarest. We herein describe a case report of carcinoma supraglottic larynx, which is involving all five distal phalanges of left hand with simultaneous metastases to lung and liver. Acrometastasis is an unusual presentation, which might mimic an infectious or inflammatory pathology. The brief report highlights the importance of clinical awareness of metastatic dissemination to unusual sites in the face of increasing cancer survivorship.     

Gravitational erythema

We report a case demonstrating an extremely unusual erythema on the lower limbs induced by standing. This phenomenon has never come to our attention before and we can find only one previous report of a similar case in the literature. We propose the name‘gravitational erythemal for this entity.     

Granular cell tumor

The case report presented herein involves a granular cell tumor of the vulva, an uncommon site, with unusual clinical characteristics.     

A Case of Intradermal Melanocytic Nevus with Ossification (Nevus of Nanta)

A 49-year-old woman presented with a 30-year history of asymptomatic plaque on her right temple. The histological examination revealed nests of nevus cells throughout the entire dermis. Bony spicules were seen just beneath the nevus cell nests in the lower dermis. Cutaneous ossification is an unusual event. Herein, we present a case of intradermal melanocytic nevus with unusual ossification (nevus of Nanta). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first such case report in the Korean literature.     

Nail infestation by Liposcelis bostrychophila Badonnel

We report an unusual case of nail infestation by Liposcelis bostrychophila Badonnel in a 70-year-old woman with onychomycosis. Liposcelis spp., also known as booklouse, are tiny insects that feed on fungi, lichen and decaying materials. In this case, the loosened hyperkeratotic nail provided a favourable environment for these insects. This is the second report of human infestation by Liposcelis spp.     

Multiple onychocryptosis following treatment of onychomycosis with oral terbinafine

The authors report an unusual case of multiple onychocryptosis, which developed following treatment of onychomycosis with oral terbinafine. With new growth of the healthy nail plate, the distal aspect of multiple toenails became ingrown with periungual inflammation. This required several minor surgical procedures to alleviate the onychocryptosis. The authors present this case report as a potential complication of oral antifungal therapy.     

A Case of Fibrous Histiocytoma Associated with Xanthogranulomatous Alteration

We report here an unusual case of fibrous histiocytoma in which an area of xanthogranuloma was observed histologically. Our case suggests that adult xanthogranuloma is a variant of fibrous histiocytoma.     

Milia restricted to the eyelids

We report a highly unusual clinical case of multiple, bilateral milia restricted to the upper eyelids, with a family history suggestive of autosomal dominant inheritance.     

Pedunculated digitate papillomatosis around rectum

This is a report on unusual case of proliferation of dermal and epidermal components having finger-like projection around rectum with extension towards natal cleft in a patient suffering from Hansen's infection.     

Merkel Cell Polyomavirus Detection in a Patient with Familial Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis

We report a case of Merkel cell polyomavirus detection in the skin of a patient with epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EDV) and a family history remarkable for an unusual inheritance pattern for EDV.     

Osteomyelitis secondary to cutaneous mucormycosis. Report of a case and a review of the literature

An unusual case of osteomyelitis secondary to cutaneous mucormycosis developed in a diabetic with chronic renal insufficiency. Recovery followed curettage of the osseous lesion and "suboptimal" treatment with amphotericin B. A review of the literature on mucormycosis of bone and skin follows the report of the case.     

An unusual case: bilateral symmetrical Bowen's disease

We report on an unusual case of bilateral symmetrical Bowen's disease occurring simultaneously on both legs of a 56-year-old male patient. We are not aware of a similar case reported in the literature so far.     

Peyronie's disease: clinical and sonographic evaluation of a case

We report a case of Peyronie's Disease, for which sonography proved to be a valuable, non-invasive diagnostic procedure. The sonographic findings and some unusual clinical features of our case are discussed.     

Palmar subcutaneous lipoma

We report the case of a patient with a large palmar subcutaneous lipoma. The unusual site of the lesion and the importance of a differential diagnosis to rule out angiolipoma are stressed.     

Chronic actinic dermatitis responding to danazol

We report an unusual case of chronic actinic dermatitis associated with α1-antitrypsin deficiency and who responded well to treatment with danazol.     

Acral microcystic lymphangioma: differential diagnosis in verrucous lesions of the extremities

Lymphangiomas are a malformation caused by the abnormal migration of lymphatic tissue, leading to failures in the communication and drainage of the lymphatic system. They usually present as groups of translucent papules and vesicles in the skin or mucous membranes. Presentation as a verrucous plaque limited to a single toe is unusual and emphasizes the relevance of this case report. Although considered a benign lesion, depending on the site affected by the lymphangioma and its size, it may lead to localized pain or recurrent infections, substantially affecting the patient's quality of life. The present case report describes a patient with lymphangioma of late onset developing in adulthood in the form of a verrucous plaque confined to a single toe. Diagnosis of this unusual presentation could only be confirmed following histopathology. Surgical excision resulted in a satisfactory functional and cosmetic outcome.     

Rhinophymatous amelanotic melanoma

Amelanotic melanomas are well-known to mimic other dermatologic lesions and often result in delayed diagnosis and treatment. We report a case of an unusual presentation of amelanotic melanoma with an appearance similar to rhinophyma.     

Facial superficial porokeratosis

A case of exclusively facial superficial porokeratosis occurring in a young man is reported. These lesions were asymptomatic and remarkable because of their location. Histopathology revealed a typical superficial porokeratosis. Exclusively facial porokeratosis is an unusual clinical presentation. To our knowledge, it is the second report of a case with exclusively facial involvement.
