Concentrations of nine heavy metals (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Cd, Co, and Hg) were determined in liver, kidney, and muscle
of 50 green turtles (Chelonia mydas) collected from Yaeyama Islands, Okinawa, Japan, to elucidate growth-related changes in heavy metal accumulation during different
growth stage. Considerably high Cu concentrations were found in the liver of smaller turtles. Mean hepatic concentration of
Cu was 50.2 μg/g wet weight which varied widely (4.27–113 μg/g wet weight). Cadmium concentrations decreased with increasing
the carapace length. The juvenile green turtles in the pelagic ocean are likely feed on zooplankton, while adult coastal inhabiting
green turtles mainly feed on sea grasses and seaweeds. Concentrations of Cd in sea plants are lower than those in zooplankton.
The specific accumulation of Cd found in the green turtle seems to be attributable to their feeding habit, which is a shift
from carnivore to herbivore at different growth stages.

Bioaccumulation of cadmium, chromium, copper, manganese, nickel, lead, and zinc in 56 foxes (Vulpes vulpes) and their parasites Mesocestoides spp. (Cestoda) and Toxascaris leonina (Nematoda) was studied. The levels of heavy metals were determined in the livers and kidneys of the animals depending on
parasitism in the following ranges: Pb, 0.029–3.556; Cd, 0.055–9.967; Cr, 0.001–0.304; Cu, 4.15–41.15; Mn, 1.81–19.94; Ni:
0.037–0.831; Zn, 52.0–212.9 μg/g dry weight (dw). Cd in parasites (0.038–3.678 μg/g dw) were comparable with those in the
livers of the host and lower than in the kidneys (0.095–6.032 μg/g dw). Contents of Pb, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, and Zn in cestodes
were predominantly higher than those in the kidney and liver of the host. Median lead levels in Mesocestoides spp. (45.6 μg/g dw) were 52-fold higher than in the kidney and liver of the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) infected by both parasites and median Pb values in T. leonina (8.98 μg/g dw) were 8-fold higher than in the tissues of the parasitized red fox. Bioaccumulation factors of copper, zinc,
nickel, and manganese are lower than those of lead and mostly range from 1.9 to 24 for Mesocestoides spp. and from 1.5 to 6 for nematode T. leonina depending on the tissue of host and element. A significant decrease in the content of Pb was found in the kidney of animals
infected by T. leonina (0.260 μg/g dw) as well as those infected by Mesocestoides spp. (0.457 μg/g dw) in comparison with the lead content (0.878 μg/g dw) in the kidneys of the nonparasitized red fox. Regardless
of a bioaccumulation of copper and manganese in the parasites, a significant increase of the concentrations of Mn and Cu was
observed in the host’s livers infected predominantly by Mesocestoides spp. 相似文献

The concentrations of Zn, Cd and Pb were determined in tissues (shell and soft tissue) of 144 of bivalve mollusks (Solen brevis) and 15 samples of surface sediment collected from three locations in intertidal zones of Bushehr coast, Persian Gulf, Iran
in May 2011. The mean concentrations of Zn, Cd and Pb in the sediment samples were 26.2, 1.25, and 21.1 μg/g dw, respectively.
The mean levels of Zn, Cd and Pb in the clam samples were 63.3, 0.67, and 4.38 μg/g dw in soft tissue and 10. 7, 1.53, and
15.6 μg/g dw in shell, respectively. The degrees of variability (CV %) for Cd and Pb within the shells were lower than for
soft tissues, whereas the CV for Zn was lower in the soft tissue than in the shell, indicating that there is more precision
(lower CV) in the determination of Cd and Pb in the shells and Zn in the soft tissues. Significant correlation were found
between Cd (r = 0.63; p < 0.05) and Pb (r = 0.78; p < 0.01) concentrations in the shell of S.
brevis and their concentrations in the surface sediments. Indeed, Zn concentrations in the soft tissue of S. brevis significantly (r = 0.63; p < 0.05) correlated with Zn concentrations in surface sediments. The results of this study suggest that the shell of S.
brevis may serve as a reliable biomonitor for Cd and Pb, and the soft tissue for Zn. 相似文献

Trace metals Cadmium (Cd), Lead (Pb), Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn) and Iron (Fe) were analyzed in edible portions of three main
finfish species namely Lates niloticus, Oreochromis niloticus and Rastrineobola argentea sampled from various beaches of Winam Gulf, Lake Victoria, Kenya, in order to determine any seasonal and site variations
and the results showed significantly (p < 0.05) higher mean concentrations of Cd, Cu, Zn and Fe during the wet season compared to the dry season for all the three
species indicating the impact of wash-off into the lake during the rainy periods. The overall mean concentrations of the heavy
metals (in μg/g dry weight) in all combined samples ranged from 0.17–0.40 (Cd), 0.47–2.53 (Pb), 2.13–8.74 (Cu), 28.9–409.3
(Zn) and 31.4–208.1 (Fe), respectively. It was found that consumption of Rastrineobola argentea can be a significant source of heavy metals especially Zn, to humans, compared with Lates niloticus and Oreochromis niloticus, if only the muscle parts of the latter two are consumed. 相似文献

Surface sediments along the south of Caspian Sea were collected to evaluate the contamination of heavy metals. The result
ranged (μg/g, Fe% dw): Pb(13.06–33.48); Ni(18.01–69.63); Cd(0.62–1.5); Zn(30.11–87.88); Cu(5.86–26.37) and Fe(1.8–4%) respectively.
Cadmium showed higher EF when compared to other sites. Geoaccumulation Index value for Cd in most stations was classified
as moderately contaminated and moderately to strongly contaminated, as well as the average of Igeo of Cd (1.77 ± 0.35) suggested that surface sediments of Caspian coast were moderately polluted by this metal. The result
of the Pearson correlation showed that there were significant positive associations between Ni, Cd and Zn (r = 0.44–0.76; p < 0.01). 相似文献

The ranges of concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn of the soft tissues of C. corteziensis collected in seven coastal lagoons of NW Mexico were 1.55–7.45, 17.50–166.36, 4.13–9.49 and 245.34–2,304.12 μg/g (dry weight),
respectively. Their distributions were not consistent and there were no seasonal trends, indicating different point sources
of the metals in each lagoon. The mean Cd and Pb concentrations were 5.34 and 6.30 μg/g (dry weight), which are higher than
the values indicative of polluted areas. Our data indicate that only the levels of Cd are a possible health risk in six of
these lagoons, and only in the case of regular local consumers. In one, Cu and Zn reach levels of concern. 相似文献

Characteristics of the spatial and temporal distributions of selected dissolved heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb, Hg and Cd) in Bohai
Bay, north China was investigated. Water samples from 22 sites were collected and analyzed for the selected metals with atomic
absorption spectrometry from the year of 1996 to 2005. Relatively high concentrations of Cu, Zn, Pb and Hg were detected,
with maximum concentrations in the 10-year period of 16.30, 422.00, 40.40, 0.23 μg/L respectively. The concentrations of Cd
in all samples were quite low, with maximum level of 0.89 μg/L. The spatial distribution of dissolved Cu, Zn and Pb was analogous,
where their average concentrations generally descended from the coastline to the central areas of the bay. Differently, for
Hg and Cd, relatively high concentrations occurred not only in inshore but also in offshore areas. Measured data of heavy
metals were compared with sea water quality standard of China (SWQSC). Cd concentrations in all samples were below SWQSC Grade-I.
The percentages of Cu, Zn, Pb, and Hg at Grade-III levels in Bohai Bay were 2.67%, 30.00%, 30.43% and 0.36%, respectively,
suggesting the severe contamination of Zn and Pb in this area. Terrestrial inputs via different rivers and sewages may be
the important source for the heavy metals contamination. 相似文献

The concentrations of heavy metals Ag, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sn and Zn were analysed in water and surface sediments
of five Rift Valley lakes Nakuru, Elementaita, Naivasha, Bogoria and Baringo in Kenya. The dissolved mean concentration levels
(μg/L) in water ranged within 13.0–185.0 (Ag), 2.0–43.0 (Cd), 5.0–316.0 (Co), 25.0–188.0 (Cr), 4.7–100.0 (Cu), 50.0–282.0
(Mn), 19.0–288.0 (Ni), 25.0–563.0 (Pb), 300.0–1050.0 (Sn) and 29.0–235.0 (Zn). The mean sediment concentrations (in μg/g (dry
weight)) ranged within 0.1–0.35 (Ag), 0.05–1.18 (Cd), 0.17–1.38 (Co), 1.94–4.91 (Cr), 1.46–20.95 (Cu), 667.7–3946.8 (Mn),
11.69–39.72 (Ni), 10.92–38.98 (Pb), 17.21–56.52 (Sn) and 96.2–229.6 (Zn). The data indicate that some of the sites analysed,
especially in Lake Nakuru, had relatively higher concentration levels of heavy metals Cd, Co, Cu, Pb, Ni, and Zn in the water
which points to anthropogenic addition. However, potential influence of geochemical processes on the concentration levels
in sediment is also shown in Co, Ni, and Cu which were more concentrated in the remote Lake Baringo sediment as well as in
Pb and Mn which were more concentrated in the remote Lake Bogoria sediment. Data on some important limnological parameters
including pH, salinity, electrical conductivity and temperature are also presented. 相似文献

Water and surface sediment samples from Rivers Sabaki, Ramisi and Vevesi that flow into the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya were
analysed for heavy metals. The sediment concentrations of exchangeable cations (in μg/g) for Co, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sn and Zn
ranged from 0.10 to 506.75 (for Mn at Sabaki), constituting between 2% and 20% of the total metal concentrations obtained
by digestion with strong acid. Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn were more leachable with 0.1 N HCl. The total dissolved metal in water
and the total sediment concentrations for Ag, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sn and Zn are given in the text. For dissolved metals,
the metal/Mn ratios indicated higher concentrations of Ag in Sabaki River, Cd in Ramisi, Ni in Sabaki and Pb in Ramisi, respectively.
In sediments, the metal/Mn ratios showed higher enrichment of Ag in Ramisi, Cd in Sabaki and Vevesi, and Zn in Sabaki, respectively.
Enrichment factors showed elevated levels of Cd, Pb and Zn in sediment in River Sabaki and River Vevesi that were due to anthropogenic
inputs through Athi River. The total dissolved metal concentration ranges for the three rivers were comparable with those
ranges reported in rivers in South Africa but the sediment concentrations were below those of rivers in Europe and Asia where
anthropogenic addition of some of the toxic elements such as Cu, Pb and Cd is evidently higher. 相似文献

This study was conducted to determine trace metal concentrations (Cd, Cu, Zn, Pb and Hg) in blood and three egg fractions from Eretmochelys imbricata nesting on Qeshm Island in Iran. The results showed detectable levels of all analytes in all fractions. Pb and Hg were detectable in the blood and eggs, reflecting a maternal transfer. With the exception of Cu and Pb, analyzed elements in eggs were concentrated in yolk. Only Zn in blood had a significant correlation with the body size and weight (p < 0.01). It appears that Hawksbill sea turtles can regulate Zn concentrations through homeostatic processes to balance metabolic requirements. The relatively low concentrations of metals in blood support the knowledge that E. imbricata feed mainly on the low trophic levels. All essential and non-essential elements were detectable in blood and in eggs of the hawksbill, reflecting a maternal transfer. Consequently, movement patterns, home ranges of foraging grounds, and availability of food could explain variations in trace element concentrations among female turtles. 相似文献

We investigated links between mining-related contaminants in river sediment and their occurrence in nestling ospreys (Pandion haliaetus) in the Clark Fork River Basin, Montana, USA. Blood and feather samples from 111 osprey chicks were collected during 4 years
from nests along river sections with greatly different sediment concentrations of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu),
lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), and mercury (Hg). No significant differences between river sections were found among Zn (3,150 ± 160 μg
L−1) and Cd (<5 μg L−1) concentrations in blood. Cu, Pb, and As concentrations in blood were significantly increased in chicks from the most contaminated
river sections (mean values of 298, 8.9, and 100 μg L−1, respectively). Cu, Zn, and Pb concentrations increased significantly during a year of above-average river runoff combined
with high suspended sediment loads in rivers. Total Hg concentrations in blood and feathers were highly correlated and depended
on the geographic locations of the nests. The lowest blood concentrations of Hg were observed in the most upstream river section
(mean 151 μg L−1) where total sediment concentrations were increased (0.80 mg kg−1). River sections with intermediate blood concentrations (mean 206 and 303 μg L−1) were associated with low to intermediate sediment concentrations (0.058 and 0.46 mg kg−1). The highest concentrations of Hg in ospreys (mean 548 μg L−1) were observed downstream from a contaminated tributary (1–4 mg kg−1 in sediment). In river sections with lower Hg concentrations in sediment, there was a negative correlation between blood
Hg concentration and chick mass, presumably due to high deposition rates into growing feathers. This relationship was absent
in sections of high Hg exposure. Osprey blood and feathers are suitable for monitoring Hg in aquatic ecosystems; however,
responses of As, Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn are more subtle. 相似文献

The Australian benthic bivalve Tellina deltoidalis tolerates a wide range of sediment and water conditions, is easy to handle in the laboratory, and is a useful species for
undertaking whole-sediment toxicity tests. The sensitivity of T. deltoidalis to metals was investigated in 10-day metal-spiked sediment exposures for Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn and in water-only exposures
for Cu and Zn. The survival of T. deltoidalis in 10-day exposures to metal-spiked sediments was 88–100% for Cd, Ni, Pb, and Zn concentrations of 75, 420, 1,000, and 4,000 mg/kg,
respectively. The 4-day LC50s for dissolved Cu and Zn were 0.18 and 13 mg/L, respectively. The 8-day LC50 for Cu was 31 (24–34) μg/L. Cu and Zn concentrations in the tissues of T. deltoidalis increase linearly with increasing dissolved exposure concentration. In the Cu-spiked sediment and water exposures, the survival
was negatively correlated with the Cu concentration in both the overlying water and in the tissues of T. deltoidalis. In contrast, particulate Cu concentrations were found to be a poor predictor of Cu bioaccumulation and toxicity for Cu-spiked
sediments. 相似文献

Bulk and Bioavailable Heavy Metals (Cd,Cu, Pb,and Zn) in Surface Sediments from Mazatlán Harbor (SE Gulf of California) 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

This work evaluates current metal concentrations (Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn) and the operational bio-available chemical extraction
fraction in surface sediments in Mazatlán Harbor in Northwest México. Sediment samples were also analyzed for organic carbon,
carbonates and particle size. Ranges of bulk metal were as follows: Cd from 3.1 to 3.3 μg/g, Cu from 31.9 to 44.9 μg/g, Pb
from 49.6 to 54.0 μg/g, and Zn from 217.8 to 323.5 μg/g. In terms of biological effects, metals concentrations in the sediments
lie between the low and median ranges of the mean quality guideline criteria. Comparatively, the metals concentrations increased
from 1983 to 1994 and then for 2006, except Pb and Cd that decreased in the last period of time. The bio-available fraction
of metals increased from 1983 to 1994, but only bio-available Cu increased from 1994 to 2006, due to mobilization of this
metal from the organic matter–sulfide phase. 相似文献

To characterize the partitioning of metals in a stream ecosystem, concentrations of trace metals including As, Cd, Cu, Pb,
and Zn were measured in water, colloids, sediment, biofilm (also referred to as aufwuchs), macroinvertebrates, and fish collected from the Boulder River watershed, Montana. Median concentrations of Cd, Cu, and
Zn in water throughout the watershed exceeded the U.S. EPA acute and chronic criteria for protection of aquatic life. Concentrations
of As, Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn in sediment were sufficient in the tributaries to cause invertebrate toxicity. The concentrations
of As, Cu, Cd, Pb, and Zn in invertebrates from lower Cataract Creek (63, 339, 59, 34, and 2,410 μg/g dry wt, respectively)
were greater than the concentrations in invertebrates from the Clark Fork River watershed, Montana (19, 174, 2.3, 15, and
648 μg/g, respectively), that were associated with reduced survival, growth, and health of cutthroat trout fed diets composed
of those invertebrates. Colloids and biofilm seem to play a critical role in the pathway of metals into the food chain and
concentrations of As, Cu, Pb, and Zn in these two components are significantly correlated. We suggest that transfer of metals
associated with Fe colloids to biological components of biofilm is an important pathway where metals associated with abiotic
components are first available to biotic components. The significant correlations suggest that Cd, Cu, and Zn may move independently
to biota (biofilm, invertebrates, or fish tissues) from water and sediment. The possibility exists that Cd, Cu, and Zn concentrations
increase in fish tissues as a result of direct contact with water and sediment and indirect exposure through the food chain.
However, uptake through the food chain to fish may be more important for As. Although As concentrations in colloids and biofilm
were significantly correlated with As water concentrations, As concentrations in fish tissues were not correlated with water.
The pathway for Pb into biological components seems to begin with sediment because concentrations of Pb in water were not
significantly correlated with any other component and because concentrations of Pb in the water were often below detection
limits. 相似文献

In this study, the distribution and sources of inputs of trace metals including Cd, Cu, Zn and Pb from various sources as
well as Fe which is widely used in the construction industry, into Winam Gulf of Lake Victoria were investigated. The sampling
sites were located up streams and down streams of four rivers (Sio, Nyamasaria, Nyando and Sondu-Miriu), in four beaches along
the lake (Port Victoria, Kisumu Car Wash, Dunga and Hippo point beaches) and in three estates (Nyamasaria, Migosi and Nyawita)
in Kisumu city, covering potential agrochemical and industrial sources and drinking water points, respectively. The concentrations
(in μg/L) of trace metals analysed in the lake and river waters ranged from <1.79 (Cd), <3.83 (Pb), <1.53–3.86 (Cu), 4.37–11.6
(Zn), 11.8–2,440 (Fe). The sediment concentrations (in μg/kg × 103) ranged from 0.19 to 1.91 (Cd), 6.86–138 (Pb), 18–100 (Cu), 36.2–443 (Zn) and 960–73,200 (Fe), with highest concentrations
of all metals being recorded at Kisumu Car Wash area. The study confirmed that the concentrations of the metals accumulate
downstream in the rivers both in water and sediment and these rivers are major sources of the heavy metal load into Winam
Gulf of Lake Victoria. 相似文献

From February 2004 to April 2006, the concentrations of more than 10 metals in mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) were measured in 10 stations from Galicia to the Basque Country in 8 different times of sampling. The mean highest concentrations
are found for Zn [226.8 μg/g, dry weight (d.w.)] followed by Mn, As, Cu, and Co (between 10 and 25 μg/g d.w.). Lower mean
concentrations are found for Se, Cr, Pb, V, and Ni (between 2 and 8 μg/g d.w.) and the lowest are for Cd, Sn, Hg, and Sb (between
0.05 and 1 μg/g d.w.). Among the statistical treatments used, the factor analysis showed a clustering of the mussels according
to the geographical location. In addition, the temporal trend of the metal concentrations was studied by means of the Mann–Kendall
test. In this sense, some stations showed a decreasing trend in the accumulation of the metallic content. However, there were
some local pollution events that could be explained as a consequence of anthropogenic activities. Finally, the effects of
the oil spill from the Prestige are discussed based on the experimental Ni/V ratio values obtained from this work and those of the original oil. 相似文献

Metal and nutrient concentrations were measured in five running water sampling sites of New Caledonia. Metal concentrations
were homogeneous (Ni; 22.7–50.6 μg L−1) or not (Fe; 37–749 μg L−1). Concentrations of Ni, Cr, Fe were high, including high dissolved fractions (up to 47.8, 70.8 and 417 μg L−1, respectively). Concentrations of anthropogenic metals (Ag, As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Sb, V, Zn) were low (maximum: total Cu, 0.6 μg
L−1). The contamination of waters is presumably due to soil weathering and mining activities. Metal concentrations and phosphate
depletion (<0.04 μmol L−1) suggest constrained conditions for the development of aquatic life. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to analyze seasonal variation of levels of Chromium (Cr), Manganese (Mn), Nickel (Ni), Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Cadmium (Cd) and Lead (Pb) in water, sediment and tissues of Squalius cephalus (L., 1758) taken from five different stations chosen at Yamula Dam Lake (Kayseri, Turkey). Concentrations of metals were generally sorted as water<tissue<sediment. The highest concentration of metals in water was observed in the samples taken in the summer (Mn, 1.04 ± 0.15 mg L−1; Ni, 0.42 ± 0.12 mg L−1; Cu, 1.25 ± 0.88 mg L−1; Zn, 3.61 ± 1.53 mg L−1; Pb, 0.58 ± 0.09 mg L−1). While the highest Zn (24.85 ± 21.82 μg g−1) and Pb (10.89 ± 4.2 μg g−1) concentrations in sediment were observed in the winter samples, the highest Mn concentration (167.2 ± 99.37 μg g−1) was observed in the summer. Cd pollution was determined in sediment according to international criteria. The highest metal concentration in tissues was generally observed in the liver and the other tissues; following liver were gills and muscles. In liver tissues, while the highest accumulation of Zn (110.34 ± 13.1) and Mn (22.5 ± 14.85 μg g−1), which are essential for the body, were observed in the winter, Pb (22.58 ± 7.83 μg g−1) and Cd (11.77 ± 7.83 μg g−1), which are toxic, were found to be higher in the summer. Also, concentrations of Mn, Cd and Pb in muscle tissues were found to be above the limits permitted. 相似文献

Objective Teeth can serve as records of environmental exposure to heavy metals during their formation. We applied a new technology —
synchrotron radiation microbeams (SRXRF) — for analysis of heavy metals in human permanent teeth in modern and historical
samples.
Methods Each tooth was cut in half. A longitudinal section 200 μm in thickness was subjected to the determination of the heavy metal
content by SRXRF or conventional analytical methods (ICP-MS analysis or reduction–aeration atomic absorption spectrometry).
The relative concentrations of Pb, Hg, Cu and Zn measured by SRXRF were translated in concentrations (in g of heavy metal/g
of enamel) using calibration curves by the two analytical methods.
Results Concentrations in teeth in the modern females (n = 5) were 1.2 ± 0.5 μg/g (n = 5) for Pb; 1.7 ± 0.2 ng/g for Hg; 0.9 ± 1.1 μg/g for Cu; 150 ± 24.6 μg/g for Zn. The levels of Pb were highest in the teeth
samples obtained from the humans of the Edo era (1603–1868 ad) (0.5–4.0 μg/g, n = 4). No trend was observed in this study in the Hg content in teeth during 3,000 years. The concentrations of Cu were highest
in teeth of two medieval craftsmen (57.0 and 220 μg/g). The levels of Zn were higher in modern subjects (P < 0.05) than those in the Jomon (~1000 bc) to Edo periods [113.2 ± 27.4 (μg/g, n = 11)]. Reconstruction of developmental exposure history to lead in a famous court painter of the Edo period (18th century)
revealed high levels of Pb (7.1–22.0 μg/g) in his childhood.
Conclusions SRXRF is useful a method for reconstructing human exposures in very long trends. 相似文献
