This article presents how nursing worldviews, relationship, and holism have evolved differently according to the predominant mode of perception used to create them. Intensive and extensive modes of perception are both primarily and fundamentally different; neither mode of perception can be subsumed by the other. Nurses are susceptible to limiting their perception by practicing simple holism. An evolution to complex holism in both intensive and extensive modes of perception is advocated for effective leadership in shaping the future of health care and nursing practice. 相似文献

Many clients with potential genetic conditions are leaving clinics and hospitals without the conditions being recognized. Nurses knowledgeable in genetics can change this by using skills in genetic history-taking and dysmorphology assessment to recognize signs of genetic conditions and birth defects. Nurses can also positively impact clients' health by participating in follow-up care after a genetic evaluation and counseling. During any interaction, nurses need to be advocates for genetic clients. 相似文献

A massive reorganization of its national healthcare network, coupled with new goals of primary care and preventive care-provided in the highest quality and most cost-efficient manner-prompted the US Department of Veterans Affairs to identify innovative models of nursing practice that would promote needed change. Using these events as a case study, the author discusses why innovation is essential in today's successful health care organizations and explores methods by which innovative practices can be identified. 相似文献

The call for health-care services that are patient-centred raises the need for knowledge development in both the conceptual and empirical domains. The definitions and operational elements of patient-centred care present a variety of conceptual issues. A common element in all definitions is accommodation of patient wants, preferences, and expectations. In the research domain, intervention studies face both design and measurement challenges. These include the development of interventions that are patient-centred or tailored for both patient characteristics and the environment in which they will be delivered. By addressing these critical issues, nursing can play a key role in advancing intervention science and knowledge development in the domain of patient-centred care. 相似文献
