Cardiac hamartoma. A case report

A case of cardiac hamartoma, incidentally found at autopsy is described. The tumor was a protruded polypoid lesion located at the apex of the heart and was demarcated from the pericardial tissue. Microscopically this tumor was composed of dense collagenous tissue, mature adiposed tissue and proliferated blood vessels, intermingled with cardiac muscle cells, the latter being hypertrophic and disarrayed.     

Mesenchymal hamartoma of the liver--a case report

Mesenchymal hamartoma of the liver is a rare benign tumor of infancy and childhood. A case of mesenchymal hamartoma of liver seen in a 37 day old child is reported and the available literature on the subject is briefly reviewed.     

Diffuse pulmonary hamartoma: a case report

Pulmonary hamartoma usually occurs as a benign, well-circumscribed single nodule in the lung parenchyma. We report on a unique case of hamartoma that extended along the bronchial tree, formed endobronchial polypoid lesions, and expanded into the lung parenchyma. The patient, a 48-year-old man, was admitted with dyspnea and chest pain. A transbronchial biopsy was performed on a tumorous lesion that was diagnosed histologically as a hamartoma. As this lesion was found to be growing diffusely along the bronchial tree, a left pneumonectomy was performed. Gross examination showed that yellowish soft tissue had surrounded the bronchial tree and extended into the lung parenchyma. Histologically, the lesion contained mainly mature adipose tissue, cartilage, and muscle tissue with a minor component of short spindle cells in a myxomatous matrix. The patient was diagnosed as having diffuse pulmonary hamartoma.     

Breast hamartoma associated with pregnancy--a case report

Hamartoma of the breast is an uncommon tumor like condition constituting only 3.9 to 4.8 % of benign breast tumors. We wish to report clinical, cytological, cytological histological findings of breast hamartoma with pregnancy     

Pulmonary hamartoma in a calf.

A pulmonary hamartoma was found in a 5 weeks over term Jersey Holstein cross bull calf. A 36 x 22 x 22 cm, spongy, pale pink mass with a distinct lobulated pattern was continuous with the left caudal lung lobe and compromised other thoracic viscera. The mass was non-cystic and uniformly consisted of soft, pink tissue. Histologically, the mass consisted of a disproportionate number of bronchiolar and alveolar structures, arranged in a haphazard pattern. Ascites, localized subcutaneous oedema, and chronic passive congestion of the liver were additional findings.     

Fibrous hamartoma of infancy manifested as multiple nodules--a case report.

Fibrous hamartoma of infancy is an uncommon benign fibrous proliferation, usually presenting as a solitary nodule. A rare example of multiple fibrous hamartoma of infancy is described. Two masses which developed in the upper arm of a 10-month-old boy were successfully excised, and one month later three small nodules 2 cm below the previous operation field appeared. It will be further elucidated whether multiple forms and early recurrence are related or not as cases accumulate.     

Pulmonary artery sarcomas. A review and report of a case

We examined a case of primary pulmonary artery sarcoma and reviewed 45 cases that we found previously reported in the English literature, with particular attention given to the pathologic features. These sarcomas involve the pulmonary arterial trunk, left and right main pulmonary arteries, pulmonary valve, and right ventricular outflow tract. They have prominent intravascular growth along the arterial intima. Lung involvement commonly occurs by direct extension through the pulmonary vasculature or by distant metastases. These sarcomas contain a variety of heterologous components and areas of bone, cartilage, and fibrous tissue may be remarkably well-differentiated. Management of these sarcomas will be aided by an understanding of their biologic behavior and pathologic features.

患者女,34岁,右足腹侧、外侧缘至小腿多发性结节伴疼痛27年,于2007年12月6日来山东省烟台市毓璜顶医院就诊.     

婴儿纤维性错构瘤一例

患儿男,1岁.体检发现左上臂远端内侧一肿物,略高于皮肤,周围无红肿,质韧,无明显压痛,左肘活动无受限,于2010年7月4日入院.行左上臂肿物切除术,切开于皮下脂肪层内探及一1.5 cm×1.5 cm肿物,与深筋膜粘连,无明显包膜.     

Pulmonary valve papillary fibroelastoma. A case report and review of the literature.

Papillary fibroelastomas are rare and benign cardiac tumors that typically affect the cardiac valves. To the best of our knowledge, the English literature contains only 1 case report of pulmonary valve fibroelastoma diagnosed by echocardiogram and confirmed by surgical resection. There is a paucity of pathology literature on this subject. We describe an additional case of pulmonary valve fibroelastoma diagnosed by transesophageal echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging confirmed by pathologic examination in a patient who also had a thymoma.
