Background
Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is an autoimmune subepidermal bullous disease associated with autoantibodies against BP180 and BP230. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is a sensitive tool for the detection of immunoglobulin G (IgG) anti-BP180 and anti-BP230 autoantibodies. Objective
The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of ELISA for diagnosing and monitoring the disease activity of BP.Methods
We evaluated serum IgG levels of anti-BP180 and anti-BP230 autoantibodies in 47 BP patients, 16 epidermolysis bullosa aquisita patients, and 15 healthy volunteers using ELISA. Through retrospective review of the medical records, the clinical characteristics of BP including disease activity, duration, pruritus severity and peripheral blood eosinophil counts were assessed. Results
The sensitivity of BP180 ELISA was 97.9%, BP230 ELISA 72.3%, and a combination of the two was 100%. The specificity of BP180 ELISA was 90.3%, BP230 ELISA 100%, and a combination of the two was 90.3%. BP180 ELISA scores showed strong associations with disease activity, pruritus severity, peripheral blood eosinophil counts, and disease duration, whereas BP230 ELISA scores did not. Conclusion
BP180 and BP230 ELISAs are highly sensitive methods for the diagnosis of BP, and BP180 ELISA, in particular, is a sensitive tool for monitoring the disease activity of BP. 相似文献3.

BACKGROUND
Ephelides are small hyperpigmented macules common in the skin, presenting as areas with increased melanin production. Ephelides are observed in genetically predisposed individuals, particularly fair-skinned people highly susceptible to sunburn.OBJECTIVES
This study aimed to determine the prevalence of lip and perioral ephelides in 362 beach workers in the city of Natal (Rio Grande do Norte) and to investigate potential associations with sociodemographic, occupational and general health.METHODS
For this purpose clinical tests were performed by calibrated examiners in the epidemiological area around the lips and the area bounded laterally by the nasolabial groove and at the bottom by the chin. A questionnaire was completed and assessed. The possible associations between sociodemographic variables, occupational and general health with the presence of lip and perioral ephelides were evaluated by chi-square test for a significance level of 5%.RESULTS
Approximately one third of the workers were affected by perioral ephelides (33.7%) and around a quarter of them by lip ephelides (24.0%). Gender was the only variable significantly associated with the presence of perioral ephelides (p = 0.002), unlike lip ephelides which proved to be significantly associated with habits (p = 0.036) and alcoholism (0.030).CONCLUSIONS
The prevalence of ephelides in lip and perioral region was high in the study population, with gender and certain habits associated with its occurrence. 相似文献5.

Background
Over the last decade, the incidence of ultraviolet B (UVB)-related skin problems has increased. Oxidative stress caused by UVB induces the secretion of melanocyte growth and activating factors from keratinocytes, which results in the formation of cutaneous hyperpigmentation. Therefore, increasing the antioxidant abilities of skin cells is thought to be a beneficial strategy for the development of sunscreen agents. Superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) is an antioxidant enzyme that is known to exhibit antioxidant properties. Objective
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of SOD1 on alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) and UVB-induced melanogenesis in B16F10 melanoma cells and HRM-2 melanin-possessing hairless mice. Methods
The inhibitory effect of SOD1 on tyrosinase activity was evaluated in a cell-free system. Additional experiments were performed using B16F10 melanoma cells to demonstrate the effects of SOD1 in vitro, and HRM-2 melanin-possessing hairless mice were used to evaluate the antimelanogenic effects of SOD1 in vivo. Results
We found that SOD1 inhibited melanin production in a dose-dependent manner without causing cytotoxicity in B16F10 melanoma cells. SOD1 did not inhibit tyrosinase activity under cell-free conditions. The results indicate that SOD1 may reduce pigmentation by an indirect, nonenzymatic mechanism. We also found that SOD1 decreased UVB-induced melanogenesis in HRM-2 melanin-possessing hairless mice, as visualized through hematoxylin and eosin staining and Fontana-Masson staining. Conclusion
Our results indicate that SOD1 has an inhibitory effect on α-MSH and UVB-induced melanogenesis, indicating that SOD1 may be a promising sunscreen agent. 相似文献6.

Background
Recent advances in hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers and radiofrequency (RF) devices have been made in the context of skin rejuvenation and cosmetic surgery. Moreover, combination regimens with both techniques are currently being developed. Objective
The present study was designed to examine the clinical and histologic effects of a new needle that incorporates an RF device for HA injections. Methods
A new intradermal needle RF device (INNOfill; Pacific Pharma, Korea) was assessed in the present study. In the animal arm, procollagen production was measured by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, the filler volume was quantified by incorporating a dye with filler, and the filler distribution was assessed through the changes in tissue structure. In the human arm, the efficacy of the combination regimen was assessed by using the wrinkle severity rating scale (WSRS).Results
In the animal study, RF treatment increased procollagen production in a time-dependent fashion. The total volume was significantly increased with the RF treatment when compared with the filler injections alone, and lasted for up to 7 weeks after treatment. Additionally, the filler distribution was reduced in animals treated with RF when compared with the untreated group. In the human study, the nasolabial folds of subjects treated with RF before filler injections exhibited a significantly greater change in the WSRS score from baseline when compared with the nasolabial folds treated with filler injections alone. Conclusion
A new device incorporating RF treatment before HA filler injection may represent a biocompatible and long-lasting advance in skin rejuvenation. 相似文献7.
Background
Hand eczema is a disease frequently observed in dermatological practice. This condition has negative emotional, social, and psychological effects due to its impact on daily life and morphological appearance. Due to its considerable effect on the quality of life, this disease can lead to depression. However, not many studies have been performed on the quality of life and depression in hand eczema patients. Objective
The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between the quality of life, depression, and disease severity in hand eczema patients in South Korea. Methods
A total of 138 patients with hand eczema participated in this study. The patients'' quality of life was assessed by a self-administered questionnaire using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). Data on patients suffering from depression was obtained using the Beck''s Depression Inventory (BDI-II). The disease severity was determined during the clinical examination, according to the Hand Eczema Severity Index (HECSI).Results
We found positive associations between DLQI and HECSI scores (p<0.05). BDI-II scores had also statistically positive correlations with HECSI scores (p<0.05). DLQI and BDI-II scores both increased with disease severity. Conclusion
Hand eczema negatively affected the quality of life and mood of patients relative to the disease severity. Therefore, we suggest that quality of life modification and emotional support should be included as a part of treatment for hand eczema. 相似文献8.

Background
In previous studies, psoriasis has been reported to be associated with metabolic syndrome. Objective
The purpose of this study was to evaluate risk factors for metabolic syndrome in psoriasis patients and to compare the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in psoriasis and control groups. Methods
All patients (n=490) and controls (n=682) were investigated for cardiovascular risk factors, including central obesity, hypertension, fasting plasma glucose levels, and blood levels of triglycerides and high-density lipoprotein (HDL).Results
We found no statistical association between psoriasis and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome when controlling for age and gender. Among individual components of metabolic syndrome, only increased triglyceride levels was significantly prevalent in patients psoriasis. The incidence of other factors such as central obesity, hypertension, fasting plasma glucose and HDL in the psoriasis group were similar to or lower than those in the control group. Although psoriasis patients with metabolic syndrome had severe and large plaque-type psoriasis, the association of metabolic syndrome with the severity or clinical subtype of psoriasis was not significant after adjusting for age and gender. Conclusion
Our results suggest that there is no close correlation between psoriasis and metabolic syndrome in Korean patients. 相似文献9.
Background
Rosacea is a chronic cutaneous disease. Therapeutic modalities should be chosen based on the identified sub-types and clinical features in each patient. Vascular lasers, including intense pulsed light (IPL), are reportedly safe and effective in treating erythematotelangiectatic rosacea (ETR).Objective
In this study, we assess the comparative efficacy of IPL related to several factors including clinical severity and the age of patients with ETR.Methods
Patients with ETR were classified into two groups according to the National Rosacea Society Severity Guideline. Severity score and erythema index (EI) were measured using a clinical scorecard and mexameter. For additional evaluation of therapeutic efficacy, investigator and patient global assessments (IGA, PGA) were checked. Efficacy of IPL was analyzed according to severity score, EI, IGA, and PGA related to sex, age, lactic acid stinging test, and severity. Results
Analyses of the efficacy of IPL according to severity score, EI, IGA, and PGA based on sex, age, lactic acid stinging test, and severity revealed significant differences with age and severity only. Conclusion
This study supports the efficacy of IPL treatment for patients with ETR. IPL may be more effective in patients with more severe ETR and in younger patients with ETR. 相似文献10.
BACKGROUND
cutaneous metastases are not so frequent and in the medical literature there are several communications of isolated cases, thereby we decided to continue our study initiated in 1981 (45 years).OBJECTIVE
our objective is to present the research and review of cutaneous metastases of 45 years through our archives at Hospital do Servidor Publico Estadual de Sao Paulo.METHODS
the data were collected from clinical cases registered in our archives at anatomopathology department.RESULTS
since 1963 we have registered 209 patients with cutaneous metastases being the anterior thorax region the most affected area and in second place the abdominal region. Breast cancer was responsible for most of the cases in women and the lung in men.CONCLUSION
this study represents a signioficant number of cases in medical practice because skin metastases of internal carcinomas rarely are observed and the great predominance, mainly due of his origin were represented by adenocarcinomas. 相似文献11.

Background
Although rarely life threatening, dermatological diseases may have a considerable influence on a patient''s quality of life and psychological well-being. As with morbidity and mental distress from other chronic diseases, a skin disorder can be the one of the main causes of depression in the geriatric population. Objective
To determine the prevalence of depression in elderly patients with dermatological disease in Korea and to identify factors associated with depression. Methods
Patients over the age of 60 years with dermatologic diseases were solicited for a questionnaire survey. The Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) was used to obtain a patient-based measurement of depression. Additionally, demographic information and medical history were collected. Results
The questionnaire was completed by 313 patients (39.94% men, mean age 69.04 years, mean disease duration 3.23 years). Dermatological disease overall had a significant effect on patients'' depression (χ2=177.13, p<0.0001), with a mean GDS score of 12.35 (out of 30). The patients who had a GDS score greater than 10 was 62.3% which indicated increased prevalence of mild to severe depression when compared to the general population among whom only 22.22% percent have GDS score greater than 10. In the univariate analysis, physical health, education level, and the presence of concurrent diseases were risk factors for geriatric depression. However, we did not find any demographic or disease related variables that were independent predictors of depression. Conclusion
Geriatric patients with dermatological disease experience an increase burden of depression. Thus, it is important for clinicians to evaluate geriatric patients with dermatologic diseases for depression. 相似文献12.

Background
Psoriasis exerts significant, negative, impact on patients'' quality of life (QOL). Recently, the relationship between QOL and skin lesion improvement has been emphasized in the treatment of psoriasis patients. Objective
The purpose of study was to compare the QOL in psoriasis and other skin diseases, and to evaluate the generic QOL, skin specific QOL, stress, depression and anxiety before and after treatment in patients. Methods
A total of 138 patients with psoriasis were recruited in this study and 83 patients complete the questionnaire at week 16. Questionnaires were comprised of generic WHO QOL scale, dermatology specific questionnaires (Skindex-29), psoriasis life stress inventory (PLSI), Beck depression inventory (BDI), and Beck anxiety inventory (BAI). Clinical response was assessed by the PASI.Results
After treatment, health-related QOL was improved and PASI improvement showed smaller correlation with Skindex-29, compared with the correlations between self-reported severity score (SRSS) improvement and Skindex-29. Regression analysis revealed that duration, SRSS, stress, and depression were factors affecting baseline HRQOL in patients, and age, duration, and SRSS were predictors associated with HTQOL score changes. Conclusion
Treatment improved HRQOL, BAI, BDI, and PLSI scores. Psoriasis may become more burdensome in groups of patients who suffer long disease duration, high SRSS, depression, and stressful environments. 相似文献13.

Background
Adenosine is a nucleoside, in which an adenine molecule is attached to a ribofuranose sugar moiety. It can be released into the microenvironment by metabolically active cells, and then fulfills a multitude of functions in regulation of cell proliferation, by activating four subtypes of G protein-coupled adenosine receptors. Objective
In this study, we investigated the effect of adenosine on melanogenesis, using B16 melanoma cells. Methods
The toxic effects of adenosine on B16 melanoma cells were assessed. To understand the mechanism of the effect of adenosine on melanogenesis in B16 cells, melanin content and tyrosinase activity were measured. Tyrosinase, tyrosinase-related protein-1, and dopachrome tautomerase were monitored by Western blotting. Finally, adenosine was applied to zebrafish embryos, and its in vivo effect on pigmentation investigated. Results
At a low concentration, adenosine increased melanin content and tyrosinase activity, while a high dose of adenosine resulted in inhibition of tyrosinase activity. Western blotting showed that adenosine increased tyrosinase protein levels slightly, while high-dose adenosine decreased the expression of tyrosinase. In zebrafish tests, adenosine slightly inhibited body pigmentation. Conclusion
In this study, we investigated the effect of adenosine on melanogenesis, using the well-established B16 melanoma cell and zebrafish models. The results suggest that adenosine may inhibit pigmentation, through negative regulation of tyrosinase. 相似文献15.

BACKGROUND
Skin cancer is the most common malignancy and can be treated in various ways. One treatment modality is Mohs micrographic surgery. Due to the increasing incidence of skin cancer in the last decades, there is a need for improvement of the Mohs technique to optimize its effectiveness.OBJECTIVE
The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of dermoscopy to guide demarcation of Mohs micrographic surgery margins and ascertain whether this method can reduce operative time and, therefore, reduce surgical morbidity and cost.METHODS AND MATERIALS
The sample comprised 44 patients who underwent Mohs micrographic surgery, allocated into two groups: the control group and the intervention group. In the latter, surgical margins were guided by dermoscopy.RESULTS
There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups by chi-square analysis (p = 0.399).CONCLUSION
Although outcomes were similar in the two groups, demonstrating that dermoscopy does not help in the demarcation of surgical margins for Mohs micrographic surgery, the study provides a practical proposal for improvement of the Mohs technique. 相似文献16.

BACKGROUND
many studies about the psychosocial impact of acne have been reported in international medical literature describing quality of life as a relevant clinical outcome. It is well known that the patient''s perception about the disease may be different from the physician''s evaluation. Therefore, it is important to use validated instruments that turn the patient''s subjective opinion into objective information.OBJECTIVES
to translate into Brazilian-Portuguese language and to culturally adapt a quality of life questionnaire, the Acne-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire (Acne-QoL), as well as to evaluate its reliability and validity.METHODS
measurement properties were assessed: 1) validity: comparison between severity and Acne-QoL domain scores, correlations between acne duration and Acne-QoL domain scores, and correlation between Acne-QoL domain scores and SF-36 components; 2) internal consistency: Cronbach''s α coefficient; 3) test-retest reproducibility: intraclass correlation coefficient and Wilcoxon test.RESULTS
Eighty subjects with a mean age of 20.5 ± 4.8 years presenting mild (33.8%), moderate (36.2%) and severe (30%) facial acne were enrolled. Acne-QoL domain scores were similar among the different acne severity groups except for role-social domain. Subjects with shorter acne duration presented significant higher scores. Acne-QoL domains showed significant correlations, both between themselves and with SF-36 role-social and mental health components. Internal consistency (0.925-0.952) and test-retest reproducibility were considered acceptable (0.768-0.836).CONCLUSIONS
the Brazilian-Portuguese version of the Acne-QoL is a reliable and valid satisfactory outcome measure to be used in facial acne studies. 相似文献17.
Background
Cutaneous lesions are commonly seen in the newborn period and exhibit inconsistency from the skin lesions of an adult. Objective
The present study was carried out with an aim to determine the frequency of physiologic and pathologic cutaneous findings in newborns. Methods
Typically, 1234 newborns were included in this study. A questionnaire about maternal gestational history, maternal and family history was issued to the parents of each newborn. The presence of cutaneous lesions was recorded. Results
Overall, 642 (52%) of the newborns were male and 592 (48%) were female. Typically, 831 newborns (67.3%) had at least one cutaneous lesion. The prevalence of genital hyperpigmentation and milia was significantly higher in males. In premature newborns, the pervasiveness of cutis marmorata and genital hyperpigmentation was found to be significantly higher. Caput succedaneum, transient neonatal pustular melanosis and cyanosis appeared predominantly in vaginally born infants. Erythema toxicum neonatorum was seen in infants, who were born by cesarean section. The predominance of Mongolian spots and erythema toxicum neonatorum were significantly higher in the newborns of the multiparous mothers; however, caput succedaneum was significantly higher in newborns of the primiparous mothers. Conclusion
A number of studies about neonatal dermatoses have been carried out involving different methods in various countries. We consider that our study may be useful in literature, as it has been carried out involving large number of maternal parameters. 相似文献18.

Background
The use of growth factors in skin rejuvenation is emerging as a novel anti-aging treatment. While the role of growth factors in wound healing is well established, their use in skin rejuvenation has only recently been to be studied and no controlled trials have been performed. Objective
We evaluated the anti-aging effects of secretory factors of endothelial precursor cells differentiated from human embryonic stem cells (hESC-EPC) in Asian skin. Methods
A total of 25 women were included in this randomized, controlled split-face study. The right and left sides of each participant''s face were randomly allocated to hESC-EPC conditioned medium (CM) or saline. To enhance epidermal penetration, a 0.25-mm microneedle roller was used. Five treatment sessions were repeated at 2-week intervals. Results
Physician''s global assessment of pigmentation and wrinkles after treatment revealed statistically significant effects of microneedling plus hESC-EPC CM compared to microneedling alone (p<0.05). Skin measurements by Mexameter and Visiometer also revealed statistically significant effects of microneedling plus hESC-EPC CM on both pigmentation and wrinkles (p<0.05). The only minimal adverse event was mild desquamation in one participant. Conclusion
Secretory factors of hESC-EPC improve the signs of skin aging and could be a potential option for skin rejuvenation. 相似文献19.

BACKGROUND
While representing only 3-4% of malignant skin tumors, cutaneous melanoma is the most aggressive and lethal. Statistical knowledge about the biological behavior of this tumor is essential for guiding daily outpatient practice and aiding public health policies.OBJECTIVES
To analyze the profile of patients with cutaneous melanoma attending a pathology department in Teresina (state of Piauí) between 2000 and 2010.METHODS
Retrospective study of melanoma patients diagnosed between 2000 and 2010 in the São Marcos Hospital in the city of Teresina. The pathology laboratory reports were studied and all the statistical analyses performed using SPSS 19.0.RESULTS
A total of 25 in situ, 199 invasive and 89 metastatic melanomas of unknown primary site were observed. Histological types found were nodular (52.8%), superficial spreading melanoma (18.6%), acral (10.6%) and lentigo maligna (9.5%). In 144 (73.4%) cases the Breslow thickness was >1 mm. Metastasis was found in 28.6% of invasive melanomas and nodular melanoma, Clark IV/ V, Breslow > 1 mm, mitotic index ≥ 6 and ulcerated lesions were more likely to metastasize.CONCLUSION
Most melanomas presented Breslow> 1mm. The main factors associated with metastasis were nodular type, Clark IV / V, Breslow> 1mm, mitotic index ≥ 6 and ulcerated lesions. 相似文献20.
