PURPOSE: To study the color stability of different resin cements after accelerated aging. METHODS: The color stability of a self-adhesive resin cement (Unicem), one resin-based composite cement (Variolink II), one compomer cement (Principle) and one hybrid ionomer cement (FujiCEM) was studied. Two curing modes of Unicem (self-cured and dual-cured) and Variolink II (light-cured and dual-cured) were also tested. Specimen disks (n = 5) were prepared with a polytetrafluoroethylene split mold and subjected to accelerated aging for 150, 300 and 450 kJ/m2. Color (CIELAB system) was measured before and after each of the three aging cycles on a reflection spectrophotometer. deltaE*, deltaL*, deltaC* and deltaH* were calculated and analyzed by ANOVA. RESULTS: The largest color change occurred during the first 150 kJ/m2 aging cycle, where deltaE* values ranged from 5.6 to 20.5 with Principle showing the least color change and FujiCEM the most. The color changes of all the tested materials were perceptible. The greatest changes were recorded for deltaL* and/or deltaC*. All specimens became significantly rougher and showed evidence of cracking and degradation after aging except Variolink II.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to determine the color and surface chemistry changes of two fiber-reinforced composites and one "advanced composite" as a function of an accelerated aging process by light exposure and water spray. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Three composites (Artglass, Targis, and Conquest Sculpture) were assessed for color evaluation in three different shades and with XPS analysis. Four specimens of each shade were analyzed with the UV/VIS/NIR Spectrophotometer in reflectance to determine the baseline color for the CIE L*a*b* system. XPS spectra were obtained from three specimens for each material group. All sample disks were artificially aged in a weathering machine and exposed to water spray and a controlled irradiance xenon arc of 0.55 W/m2/nm measured at 340 nm for a total exposure time of 122 hours. L*a*b* and XPS analyses were repeated after the aging process for all specimens. RESULTS: Artglass had "just perceptible," changes, with deltaE* between 1.8 and 2.7, while Conquest Sculpture showed, in all shades, "visually perceptible" changes from deltaE* 5 to 9. Targis had just perceptible as well as visually perceptible changes after aging. All materials showed decreased Ba and Si on the aged samples, while carbon increased. CONCLUSION: All materials tested underwent a surface change after the aging process. Artglass and Targis changed minimally into whitish/reddish and yellowish appearances, respectively. An organic-rich surface was produced by a combination of washout of filler particles and rearrangement of polymer molecules through diffusion.  相似文献

PURPOSE: Color of 11 provisional restorative materials (4 acrylic resins and 7 resin composites) was evaluated by reflection spectrophotometry immediately after fabrication, after aging for 15 kJ/m(2), and after aging for 60 kJ/m(2) to determine relative color stability under experimental aging conditions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Specimens of provisional restorative materials were polymerized according to manufacturers' instructions and aged in an artificial aging chamber with exposure to a total ultraviolet irradiation of 60 kJ/m(2) in increments of 15 kJ/m(2). Color was measured by CIE L*a*b* on a reflection spectrophotometer before and after aging. Color change (Delta E*) was calculated and analyzed statistically by analysis of variance with repeated measures after 15 and 60 kJ/m(2) intervals of aging. RESULTS: Statistically significant changes in color were observed after accelerated aging at both the initial and final aging intervals. Five of the 11 provisional materials tested showed perceptible color change (Delta E* from 3.6 to 9.3) after accelerated aging of 15 kJ/m(2). Seven of the 11 provisional materials tested showed perceptible color change (Delta E* from 3.4 to 9.4) after accelerated aging of 60 kJ/m(2). CONCLUSIONS: Clinically perceptible color changes (Delta E* Delta 3.3) can be expected in some acrylic resin and composite resin provisional materials after accelerated aging.  相似文献

The effects of the energy density that is used for polymerization on properties of dental resin composites are well known. However, few studies relate color stability to this factor. The aim of this study was to assess color changes (deltaE*), in vitro, in terms of accelerated aging under UV exposure of specimens prepared with different energy densities. Four commercial dental resin composites were included in the study. Thirty six specimens were prepared for each one of them, following the procedure established by ISO 4049 Standard, and assigned to three groups: A (3.75 J/cm2), B (9 J/cm2), C (24 J/cm2). Each group was further subdivided into four subgroups: 1 (no aging), 2 (500 hours aging), 3 (1000 hours aging) and 4 (1500 hours aging). The results were analyzed by means of ANOVA and Tukey's test (alpha = 0.05) to determine the effect of the factors. Correlation was performed in order to determine the possible relationship among variables. Energy density is not a significant factor in color stability. However aging is directly proportional to color changes. deltaE* depends on filler size; hybrid material presented deltaE* of 2.1(0.5), 2.4(0.6) and 3.3(0.3) at 500, 1000 and 1500 hours of accelerated aging respectively, and nanofilled material showed deltaE* of 3.0(0.6), 4.5(1.2) and 5.9(0.6) at the same times respectively. It can be concluded that deltaE* does not depend on energy density; however other factors are involved in color change. Further studies in this area are warranted.  相似文献

PURPOSE: This study evaluated the color changes and amount of remaining C = C bonds (%RDB) in three dental composites after hydrothermal- and photoaging. METHODS AND MATERIALS: The materials tested were Estelite sigma, Filtek Supreme and Tetric Ceram. Specimens were fabricated from each material and subjected to L* a* b* colorimetry and FTIR spectroscopy before and after aging. Statistical evaluation of the deltaL,* deltaa,* deltab,* deltaE and %deltaRDB data was performed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test. The %RDB data before and after aging were statistically analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keuls test. In all cases an alpha = 0.05 significance level was used. RESULTS: No statistically significant differences were found in deltaL*, deltaa*, deltaE and %deltaRDB among the materials tested. Tetric Ceram demonstrated a significant difference in deltab*. All the materials showed visually perceptible (deltaE >1) but clinically acceptable values (deltaE < 3.3). Within each material group, statistically significant differences in %RDB were noticed before and after aging (p < 0.05). Filtek Supreme presented the lowest %RDB before aging, with Tetric Ceram presenting the lowest %RDB after aging (p < 0.05). The %deltaRDB mean values were statistically significantly different among all the groups tested. No correlation was found between deltaE and %deltaRDB.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate, in vitro, the color stability of three composite resins of two different shades (A3 and C3) cured with either a quartz tungsten halogen (QTH) or a light emitting diode (LED) source. Forty specimens (20 x 2 mm) were prepared for each composite (Tetric Ceram(R), Heliomolar(R) and Esthet-X(R)), being 20 for each shade. In each group, 10 specimens were light-cured using the QTH unit and 10 with the LED source. The shade of the materials was evaluated before and after submitting the specimens to artificial accelerated aging (4 h UV-B/4 h condensing vapor), using a reflection spectrophotometer. deltaE means were calculated and analyzed statistically by 2-way ANOVA and Tukey's test at 5% significance level. Both A3 and C3 shades of Esthet-X composite resin showed the lowest color change when cured with the QTH light, while Tetric C3 cured with the QTH light showed the highest color change.  相似文献

The color stability of seven commercial composite restorative materials under conditions of accelerated aging was evaluated by reflection spectrophotometry at baseline and 300, 600, and 900 h. During early aging the composites generally became darker, more chromatic, and more opaque. Changes in color of the conventional composites during aging were influenced by erosion of the resin matrices and exposure of filler particles. Color stability of the microfilled composites under the in vitro conditions tested was better than that of the conventional composites and did not appear to be influenced as much by erosion.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: Opalescence and fluorescence properties and the correlated translucency and masking effect of resin composites may change after aging. The objective of this study was to determine the changes in opalescence and fluorescence properties of resin composites after accelerated aging for 150 kJ/m2. Changes in translucency and masking effect were also determined. METHODS: Color and spectral distribution of seven resin composites (A2 shade, 1-mm thick) were measured in the reflectance and transmittance modes under ultraviolet light (UV)-included and excluded conditions. Opalescence parameter (OP) was calculated as the difference in yellow-blue (Deltab*) and red-green (Deltaa*) coordinates between the reflected and transmitted colors under UV-included and excluded conditions. For the fluorescence evaluation, color differences (FL-Ref and FL-Trans) by the inclusion or exclusion of the UV-component of the standard illuminant D65 in the reflectance and transmittance modes were calculated. Under UV-included and excluded conditions, the translucency parameter (TP) was calculated, and the masking effect (ME) was calculated as the color difference between a specimen over a black tile and black tile itself. Repeated-measures 2-way analysis of variance at the significance level of 0.05 was performed for the values before and after aging. RESULTS: OP values in UV-included and excluded conditions did not change significantly after aging. FL-Ref and FL-Trans, TP values and ME values in UV-included and excluded conditions changed significantly after aging (p<0.05). The ranges of changes after aging in DeltaE*ab units were: OP, -0.50 to 0.74; FL, -1.19 to 0.15; TP, -1.37 to 0.13; and ME, -0.49 to 0.33. SIGNIFICANCE: Opalescence of resin composites did not change but fluorescence was not detected after accelerated aging for 150 kJ/m2. Translucency and masking effect changed significantly after aging.  相似文献

This study quantitatively evaluated the fluorescence intensity of resin composites with different opacities and translucencies and determined changes in fluorescence after accelerated aging, using human enamel and dentin as controls. Six microhybrid and nanofilled composites, each in three different shades, were tested. Ten sound human incisors were used to obtain enamel and dentin specimens separately. Fluorescence measurements were obtained with a fluorescence spectrophotometer before (baseline) and after accelerated aging at 150 kJ energy for 120 hours. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Games-Howell multiple comparison tests were performed at a significance level of 0.05. Student's t-test was also used for comparison before and after aging. At baseline, there was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) between the fluorescence intensity of dentin and any of the shades of Charisma or Opallis, Esthet-X dentin shade or Vit-l-escence enamel, or the translucent shades. After accelerated aging, all shades of the 4 Seasons, enamel and the translucent shades of Esthet-X had fluorescence intensities statistically similar to that of aged dentin (p>0.05). A significant reduction in fluorescence after aging (p<0.05) was observed for all the materials, except for human enamel and translucent Filtek Supreme XT. Accelerated aging reduced fluorescence in most of the composites evaluated.  相似文献

Direct and indirect composite resins have different forms of polymerization. Some materials require a post-cure system associating light and heat enhancing clinical properties. This study assessed the changes in color and surface roughness of three indirect composite resins after accelerated aging. Twelve specimens (15 x 2 mm) were obtained for each tested material. Subsequently, the first measurements for roughness tests and colorimetric spectrophotometry (CIE L*a*b* scale) were performed. Specimens were subject to accelerated aging for 384 hours. New measurements were then performed to evaluate the resulting change. Accelerated aging produced color change and increased surface roughness in all composite resins. Solidex resin showed color changes above the clinically accepted value (DeltaE = 4.31 +/- 0.22), and roughness values (Ra = 0.088 +/- 0.008 microm) statistically lower than that of Artglass (Ra = 0.141 +/- 0.026 microm) and Targis (Ra = 0.124 +/- 0.02 microm) (p<0.001). All the indirect resins tested showed color change and increased roughness after accelerated aging. Solidex showed color stability above a quantitative level considered clinically acceptable and lower roughness values compared to the other resins.  相似文献

ObjectivesTo assess the in situ color stability, surface and the tooth/restoration interface degradation of a silorane-based composite (P90, 3M ESPE) after accelerated artificial ageing (AAA), in comparison with other dimethacrylate monomer-based composites (Z250/Z350, 3M ESPE and Esthet-X, Dentsply).MethodsClass V cavities (25 mm2 × 2 mm deep) were prepared in 48 bovine incisors, which were randomly allocated into 4 groups of 12 specimens each, according to the type of restorative material used. After polishing, 10 specimens were submitted to initial color readings (Easyshade, Vita) and 2 to analysis by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). Afterwards, the teeth were submitted to AAA for 384 h, which corresponds to 1 year of clinical use, after which new color readings and microscopic images were obtained. The values obtained for the color analysis were submitted to statistical analysis (1-way ANOVA, Tukey, p < 0.05).ResultsWith regard to color stability, it was verified that all the composites showed color alteration above the clinically acceptable levels (ΔE  3.3), and that the silorane-based composite showed higher ΔE (18.6), with a statistically significant difference in comparison with the other composites (p < 0.05). The SEM images showed small alterations for the dimethacrylate-based composites after AAA and extensive degradation for the silorane-based composite with a rupture at the interface between the matrix/particle.ConclusionIt may be concluded that the silorane-based composite underwent greater alteration with regard to color stability and greater surface and tooth/restoration interface degradation after AAA.  相似文献

In vitro color stability of double-layer veneers after accelerated aging   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Porcelain laminates made from thin alumina shells veneered with feldspathic porcelain could be a promising alternative to conventional veneers. Long-term shade stability is critical for esthetics. PURPOSE: This study compared changes in CIE L*a*b* color coordinates of simulated veneers made from aluminum oxide core material veneered with feldspathic porcelain after 300 hours of accelerated photothermal aging (weathering). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifteen aluminum oxide disks (Procera) were divided into 3 groups. Each of the 5 disks was veneered with All-Ceram porcelain of the Vita shades A1 and B4, respectively. Five disks remained unfinished as controls. The disks were bonded to composite substrates simulating stained teeth. The color of the specimens was measured with a colorimeter. All specimens were subjected to 300 hours of accelerated aging under light exposure and thermocycling. Color measurements were repeated, and the data were statistically evaluated with multiple paired t tests. RESULTS: Color changes in the test groups involved an increase in lightness and a decrease in chroma. The calculated total color differences were not statistically significant compared with a level of 3 DeltaE units. CONCLUSION: This simulation of double-layer veneers appears to demonstrate acceptable color stability for this type of restoration. Clinical research is necessary to substantiate these in vitro findings.  相似文献

Composites made from powder-liquid constituents and subjected to elevated temperatures during storage are more stable than those employing pastes. The decomposition of the benzoyl peroxide ingredient is mainly responsible for the increased setting time and the decreased mechanical properties of the resulting composite.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: Recent studies showed that ceramic whisker reinforcement imparted a two-fold increase in the strength of dental composites. The aim of this study was to investigate the indentation response and measure the elastic modulus, hardness, and brittleness of whisker-reinforced heat-cured resin composites as a function of filler level, heat-cure temperature, and heat-cure duration. METHODS: Silica particles were fused onto silicon nitride whiskers to facilitate silanization and to roughen the whiskers for improved retention in matrix. Whisker filler mass fractions of 0, 20, 40, 60, 70, 74 and 79% were tested. Heat-cure temperature ranged from 100 to 180 degrees C, and duration from 10 min to 24 h. A nano-indentation system enabled the measurement of elastic modulus. Fracture toughness was measured and composite brittleness index was calculated. An inlay/onlay composite and a prosthetic composite were tested as controls. RESULTS: Whisker filler level and heat-cure duration had significant effects on composite properties, while heat-cure temperature had non-significant effects. The whisker composite with 79% filler level had a modulus in GPa (mean (SD); n = 6) of 26.9 (1.0), significantly higher than 15.1 (0.2) of an inlay/onlay control, and 16.1 (0.3) of a prosthetic control (Tukey's multiple comparison test; family confidence coefficient = 0.95). The fracture toughness in MPa.m1/2 was 2.22 (0.26) for the whisker composite, higher than 0.95 (0.11) for inlay/onlay control, and (1.13 +/- 0.19) for prosthetic control. The brittleness index was (0.49 +/- 0.07) for whisker composite, lower than (1.02 +/- 0.12) for inlay/onlay control and (0.63 +/- 0.13) for prosthetic control. SIGNIFICANCE: Whisker filler level had a profound influence, heat-cure duration had significant effects, while temperature did not have significant effects, on the properties of whisker composite. The whisker composite had significantly higher elastic modulus and fracture toughness, and lower brittleness than the inlay/onlay and prosthetic controls.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the discoloration of two nanohybrids, two microhybrids, and a posterior composite resin restorative material upon exposure to different drinks--namely tea, cola, coffee, red wine, and water. The colors of all specimens before and after storage in the solutions were measured by a colorimeter based on CIE Lab system, and the color differences thereby calculated. Data were analyzed by two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's HSD test. According to ANOVA, the restorative material, staining agent, and their interaction were found to play a statistically significant role (P = 0.0001) in color change. Among the staining agents, water consistently showed the lowest deltaE* value for all materials, whereas red wine showed the highest deltaE* value. In other words, for all the materials tested, their color change in staining agents ranked in this increasing order: water < cola < tea < coffee < red wine. In terms of comparison among the five restorative materials, Filtek P60 and Z250 were observed to manifest less color change than the nanohybrids and Quadrant LC.  相似文献
