Reliable medically assisted sex selection which does not involve abortion or infanticide has recently become available, and has been used for non-medical reasons. This raises questions about the morality of sex selection for non-medical reasons. But reasonable people continue to disagree about the answers to these questions. So another set of questions is about what the law should be on medically assisted sex selection for non-medical reasons in the face of reasonable disagreement about the morality of sex selection. This paper sketches a way of thinking about what the law should be, and concludes, contrary to what the law is in many places, that medically assisted sex selection for non-medical reasons ought to be legal.  相似文献

Argument about the ethical possibility of the therapeutic use of embryonic stem cells depends critically on the evaluation of the moral status of the very early embryo. Some assert that at the blastocyst stage it is only potentially human, not yet possessing the full ethical status of personhood, while others assert that from its formation the embryo possesses all the moral rights of a human person. It is shown that a decision on this issue is closely related to how human nature is to be understood. The idea of a person as a dual combination of body and spirit correlates naturally with the assertion of absolute personhood from conception, while an idea of human psychosomatic unity encourages a development picture in which the embryo only grows gradually into personhood. The latter view is seen to be encouraged by new advances in science which emphasise the importance of the concept of information in the discussion of complex systems. Other ethical issues related to human genetics are also briefly reviewed.  相似文献

A questionnaire research in ethics was conducted to get the view of students of medical universities in Shanghai on genomics and genetic discrimination. We find that 66% respondents indicated their willingness to understand the genetic information and 79% of respondents mind their own genetic information be aware of by other people. In contrast, 77% of the respondents believe that medical organization are not able to protect personal genetic information from disclose. Hence, it is significant to take some measures to preserve citizen’s genetic information privacy. Depending on our results, we put forward our suggestion to this problem.  相似文献

What ethical justification can be found for informing a person that he or she will later develop a lethal disease for which no therapy is available? This question has been discussed during the past twenty years by specialists concerned with the prevention of Huntington''s Disease, an incurable late-onset hereditary disorder. Many of them have played an active role in developing experimental testing programmes for at-risk persons. This paper is based on a corpus of 119 articles; it reviews the development of their reflection and includes an outline of the ethical problems identified and the solutions adopted in pre-clinical protocols. Seen in a broader perspective, the experience of presymptomatic testing for Huntington''s Disease has given medical geneticists the opportunity to clarify their ethical position in the as yet little explored field of predictive medicine.  相似文献

目的 :建立一种高效、快速、可靠的植入前诊断的性别鉴定方法。方法 :取成人外周血单个淋巴细胞和人胚胎单卵裂球 ,采用多重荧光PCR和多重巢式PCR同时扩增性别识别位点Amelogenin和 5号染色体上的基因IL 3。结果 :男性单个淋巴细胞荧光PCR扩增效率为 72 % ,巢式PCR扩增效率为 6 4 .7% ;女性单个淋巴细胞荧光PCR扩增效率为 76 % ,巢式PCR扩增效率为 6 5 % ,两者与供体外周血gDNA扩增结果的一致性均达 10 0 %。单卵裂球荧光PCR扩增效率为 86 .9% ,巢式PCR扩增效率为 85 .7% ,来源于同一胚胎的不同单卵裂球扩增结果的一致性达 10 0 %。巢式PCR与荧光PCR的扩增效率比较无显著性差异 (P >0 .0 5 )。结论 :巢式PCR和荧光PCR各有优劣 ,但荧光PCR操作简便 ,耗时短、灵敏度高 ,为今后的发展方向  相似文献
