Following an information-giving workshop to senior nurses within the hospital by the Research Nurse Group, a research-practice gap was identified. To ascertain the extent of this, a survey with an explanatory letter was distributed to all qualified nurses within the Trust. Although initially the response rate was thought to be low, it compared favourably to other studies. Results showed that 45% of respondents did not feel confident to undertake a research project but more than 80% felt that research was a part of their clinical role and was relevant to nursing. Three-quarters of respondents also acknowledged that they had read a paper resulting in a change in their clinical practice. When asked about skills and resources, 29% did not know how to conduct a literature search and 39% were unable to critically appraise a paper. Furthermore, 62% did not know what resources were available when considering a research project of their own. It was concluded therefore, that the research-practice gap does exist and nurses need encouragement and support in the implementation of the research process. INTRODUCTION: The Delphi Study on Research Priorities for Emergency Nurses in Western Australia Project was designed to allow emergency nurses to design research questions and then rank them in order of priority. METHODS: A qualitative methodology allowed the researchers to determine expert opinions from the membership of the Emergency Nurses Association of Western Australia to reach a general consensus related to research questions. RESULTS: The results placed nurse-initiated analgesia as the top research priority, with ED staffing issues in second place and ED violence issues in third place. In all, 25 research questions were developed and ranked according to priority. DISCUSSION: Development of these ranked research questions enables researchers not only to pick a research question "off the shelf" but also to be assured that the research question is clinically relevant and is a priority for practicing emergency nurses. These attributes will encourage potential researchers to conduct studies, but they also underscore the importance of the topics for the benefit of those who fund studies. 相似文献

BackgroundA collaborative project was initiated in Norway between a university college and a hospital in order to improve RNs' and nursing students' research utilization in clinical placements. This paper describes the model (CMBP) that was developed, its first application, and evaluation.AimThe evaluation aimed at describing nurses' and students' experiences of the CMBP related to collaboration, facilitation, learning, and impact on nursing care.MethodsThirty-eight students from the second and third year of nursing education, and four nurses answered questionnaires with closed and open ended questions. In addition two of the nurses wrote diaries. Data were subjected to qualitative and quantitative analysis.FindingsAlmost all participants reported that collaboration between nursing college and nursing practice had been beneficial. Most students and all nurses reported about valuable learning, increased understanding of research utilization, and improved quality of nursing care. Both students and RNs recommended the CMBP to be used in all clinical placements to support academic learning and increase research utilization in clinical practice.ConclusionDespite study limitations the findings indicate that the CMBP has a potential to be a useful model for teaching RNs' and students EBP. However, further refinement of the model is needed, followed by a more comprehensive implementation and evaluation. 相似文献

This paper reports a two-round Delphi study undertaken to identify the research priorities of midwives at five public maternity hospitals in Western Australia's metropolitan area of Perth. In round one, 117 midwives identified 64 different problems or issues for research. Using thematic content analysis, these problems were grouped together and then collapsed to develop 17 specific research topics within four major categories. In round two, 152 midwives were asked to rank how important each of the topic statements were to women, their families and midwives. Research focusing on 'the postnatal experience' was ranked by midwives as the most important to the care of women and their families. From a midwife's perspective, the highest ranked topic was 'examining the professional issues that impact on midwives' clinical practice' (e.g. midwifery and medical collaboration, potential litigation and horizontal violence in the workplace). The results of the study show that Western Australian midwives, like their national and international colleagues, are concerned about the delivery and organization of maternity services, the invisibility of the postnatal experience and how to operationalize evidence-based care in the clinical area. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Nursing research is an integral component of improving the care of people with cancer. However, for research to be successfully integrated and applied to practice, ownership and identification must come from those in practice. The need for local and national strategies for cancer nursing research and the importance of establishing priorities for cancer nursing research have been repeatedly acknowledged. STUDY AIM: The aim of the study was to facilitate a strategic approach to cancer nursing research by identifying the research priorities of cancer nurses. RESEARCH METHOD: A three-round Delphi survey was administered to nurses (n = 112) attending a cancer nursing research conference in Northern Ireland. Participants were asked to identify five research questions that they considered a high priority for cancer nursing. A response rate of 54% (60 delegates) was obtained for round one and this generated 117 statements. These statements were content analysed. Two subsequent quantitative rounds followed this. RESULTS: The top priority areas identified were psychosocial issues, for example communication and information needs; professional issues relating to nurse burnout, stress and nurse-led care; and context of care issues including continuity of care. LIMITATIONS: A potential limitation of the study is the use of conference delegates. However, it is argued that these are the people we wanted to target as they could be considered as experts who already had an interest and clinical background in both cancer research and practice. CONCLUSION: These priorities have helped to provide both direction and focus for the development of a cancer nursing research strategy for Northern Ireland. EVITEACH aimed to increase undergraduate nursing student’s engagement with evidence-based practice and enhance their knowledge utilisation and translation capabilities. Building students capabilities to apply evidence in professional practice is a fundamental university role. Undergraduate nursing students need to actively engage with knowledge utilisation and translational skill development to narrow the evidence practice gap in the clinical setting.A two phase mixed methods study was undertaken over a three year period (2008–2010, inclusive) utilizing a Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) approach. Three undergraduate nursing cohorts (N = 188) enrolled in a compulsory knowledge translation and utilisation subject at one Australian university participated. Data collection comprised of subject evaluation data and reflective statements.Preliminary investigations identified priority areas related to subject: materials, resources, teaching and workload. These priority areas became the focus of action for two PDSA cycles. PDSA cycle 1 demonstrated significant improvement of the subject overall (p > 0.05), evaluation of the materials used (p > 0.001) and teaching sub-groups (p > 0.05). PDSA cycle 2 continued to sustain improvement of the subject overall (p > 0.05). Furthermore reflective statements collected during PDSA cycle 2 identified four themes: 1) What engages undergraduate nurses in the learning process; 2) The undergraduate nurses learning trajectory; 3) Undergraduate nurses’ preconceptions of research and evidenced-based practice; and 4) Appreciating the importance of research and evidence-based practice to nursing.There is little robust evidence to guide the most effective way to build knowledge utilisation and translational skills. Effectively engaging undergraduate nursing students in knowledge translation and utilisation subjects could have immediate and long term benefits for nursing as a profession and patient outcomes. Developing evidence-based practice capabilities is important in terms of improving patient outcomes, organisational efficiencies and creating satisfying work environments. 相似文献

目的 探讨针对孕期、哺乳期、长病假特殊群体护士的管理方法.方法 采用短工时间工作制度,安排特殊人群短时间在配置中心、门诊等非一线临床科室工作.结果 经过6个月的实践,解决了12个科室人力不足的问题;有15.5%的孕期、哺乳期和长病假护士重返工作岗位.护士对短工时间工作制的满意度高达98.2%,护士长满意度为98.8%.结论 短工时间工作制是一种针对孕期、哺乳期、长病假护士群体人员管理的好方法,既可解决人力不足的问题,又充分体现人文关怀. 相似文献
