We report the in vitro activity of nine systemically active antifungal agents against 237 contemporary clinical isolates of yeast and moulds obtained from 13 laboratories in China during 2010 through 2012. Susceptibility testing was performed using CLSI methods. Sequencing of fks hot spots was performed for echinocandin non‐wild‐type (WT) strains. Isolates included 220 from eight species of Candida, 15 from four species of Aspergillus and one isolate each of Rhodotorula mucilaginosa and Trichosporon asahii. Resistance to amphotericin B (0.0%), flucytosine (0.0–1.7%) and the echinocandins (0.0–3.4%) was distinctly uncommon among C. albicans, C. parapsilosis, C. tropicalis, C. glabrata and C. pelliculosa. Three C. albicans isolates showed resistance to echinocandins and one harboured a mutation in HS1 of fks1. Resistance to the azoles was much more common with resistance to fluconazole, voriconazole and posaconazole detected among isolates of C. glabrata and C. tropicalis. Both C. parapsilosis and C. pelliculosa exhibited decreased susceptibility to fluconazole. Amphotericin B, the mould‐active azoles and the echinocandins were all quite active against isolates of A. fumigatus and A. flavus. Consistent with previous studies from China, resistance to fluconazole is prominent among Candida spp. isolates in this country.  相似文献

Colonisation may be the first step for the development of Candida infection. The source of neonatal colonisation is thought to be the hospital environment or the maternal vaginal tract. This study investigated to what extend Candida isolates in neonates are similar to isolates from their mother's vaginal tract. Vaginal samples were collected from 347 pregnant women within 48 h before delivery. Samples from oral and rectal mucosa of their neonates were collected within 24–72 h after delivery, were cultured and yeast species were identified. Antifungal susceptibility tests against six antifungal agents were performed. All paired isolates from mother and infant were genotyped by pulse field gel electrophoresis. A total of 82 mothers and of 16 infants were found colonised by Candida spp. C. albicans was the most common species in pregnant women (n = 68) followed by C. glabrata (n = 11). Only C. albicans was isolated from infants, mainly (14/16) from rectal site. All colonised neonates were born to mothers colonised by C. albicans. Candida genotyping revealed identical strains in all investigated neonate–mother pairs. All isolates were susceptible to amphotericin B. Our findings strongly suggest that vertical transmission has the principal role in the neonatal colonisation by C. albicans in the very first days of life.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to characterise phospholipase and proteinase activities of oral Candida isolates from 100 denture wearers and to study the relationship of these activities with denture stomatitis. Of 100 patients studied, 44 suffered from denture stomatitis. Specimens were collected by swabbing the denture and underlying mucosa. Isolates were previously identified by conventional mycological and genotypic methods. The phospholipase and proteinase activities were evaluated by agar plate methods. A total of 152 isolates were recovered from denture and underlying mucosa, including 101 Candida albicans, 18 Candida tropicalis, 14 Candida glabrata, 11 Candida guilliermondii, four Candida parapsilosis, two Saccharomyces cerevisiae and one isolate each of Candida dubliniensis and Candida krusei. Most C. albicans (97%) showed phospholipase activity; furthermore, the unique C. dubliniensis isolate showed a moderate phospholipase activity. The isolation of C. albicans (chi‐square test, P = 0.0016) and phospholipase production by Candida spp. (chi‐square test, P = 0.0213) was found to be significantly associated with denture stomatitis. Proteinase production was observed in <30% of isolates, and it was not related to the presence of denture stomatitis (P = 0.7675). Candida albicans isolates may produce both virulence factors, although the proteinase production was only observed in <30% of the isolates. Phospholipase production was exclusive of C. albicans and C. dubliniensis.  相似文献

Candida spp. are responsible for 80% of all systemic fungal infections and are associated with high mortality rates. This study characterised 79 bloodstream isolates of C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. orthopsilosis, C. parapsilosis and C. tropicalis from patients in a Brazilian hospital. The susceptibility to amphotericin B, caspofungin, fluconazole and voriconazole was determined; virulence factor production was assessed based on haemolysin, phospholipase and proteinase activities, and the patients’ clinical characteristics were analysed. C. albicans was the predominant species (44%), followed by C. glabrata (19%), C. tropicalis (19%), C. parapsilosis (14%) and C. orthopsilosis (4%). The candidemia incidence was 1.52 per 1000 admissions, and the crude mortality rate was 52%. One C. albicans isolate was resistant to fluconazole and voriconazole. Moreover, 20.2%, 2.5% and 3.8% of the isolates exhibited dose‐dependent susceptibility to fluconazole, voriconazole and caspofungin, respectively. In conclusion, although the C. glabrata incidence was higher than that usually described in Brazil, its increase was previously observed in studies conducted worldwide. Furthermore, the azole resistance of the C. albicans isolate could be due to previous exposure to these antifungals. These results highlight the importance of epidemiological studies and will facilitate an improved understanding of candidemia in the studied hospital.  相似文献

The second cause of death among systemic mycoses, cryptococcosis treatment represents a challenge since that 5‐flucytosine is not currently available in Brazil. Looking for alternatives, this study evaluated antifungal agents, alone and combined, correlating susceptibility to genotypes. Eighty Cryptococcus clinical isolates were genotyped by URA5 gene restriction fragment length polymorphism. Antifungal susceptibility was assessed following CLSI‐M27A3 for amphotericin (AMB), 5‐flucytosine (5FC), fluconazole (FCZ), voriconazole (VRZ), itraconazole (ITZ) and terbinafine (TRB). Drug interaction chequerboard assay evaluated: AMB + 5FC, AMB + FCZ, AMB + TRB and FCZ + TRB. Molecular typing divided isolates into 14 C. deuterogattii (VGII) and C. neoformans isolates were found to belong to genotype VNI (n = 62) and VNII (n = 4). C. neoformans VNII was significantly less susceptible than VNI (P = 0.0407) to AMB; C. deuterogattii was significantly less susceptible than VNI and VNII to VRZ (P < 0.0001). C. deuterogattii was less susceptible than C. neoformans VNI for FCZ (P = 0.0170), ITZ (P < 0.0001) and TRB (P = 0.0090). The combination FCZ + TRB showed 95.16% of synergistic effect against C. neoformans genotype VNI isolates and all combinations showed 100% of synergism against genotype VNII isolates, suggesting the relevance of cryptococcal genotyping as it is widely known that the various genotypes (now species) have significant impact in antifungal susceptibilities and clinical outcome. In difficult‐to‐treat cryptococcosis, terbinafine and different antifungal combinations might be alternatives to 5FC.  相似文献

Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is a common infection of the genital tract affecting millions of women worldwide. Data on epidemiological trends of VVC in Greece are scarce. This study was undertaken to evaluate the prevalence of VVC among symptomatic women in Crete, Greece, identify the Candida species involved and determine their susceptibility to antifungals. Over a 6‐year period (2012‐2017), 10 256 symptomatic women with vaginitis were evaluated. Isolation of yeasts was performed on Sabouraud dextrose agar with chloramphenicol, and the isolates were identified using the API 20 C AUX and/or the Vitek 2 YST card. Susceptibility of the isolates to amphotericin, fluconazole, voriconazole and flucytosine was determined by the Vitek 2 automated system. The results were interpreted according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards criteria. Vaginal swab cultures of 1217 (11.9%) women yielded Candida species. Recurrent VVC was documented in 62 (5.1%) of them. Candida albicans was the most frequently isolated species (75.6%), followed by Candida glabrata (13.6%). Overall, resistance rates to amphotericin B, fluconazole, voriconazole and flucytosine were 0.2%, 6.6%, 1.4% and 2.1%, respectively. Fluconazole resistance of C. albicans significantly increased in the second period of the study (2015‐2017) (= 0.031). This study demonstrated that VVC is a common infection among women in our region, with C. albicans being the predominant species involved. Although resistance to antifungals was infrequent, resistance to fluconazole among C. albicans isolates was found to significantly increase with time. Continued surveillance of changes in species distribution and susceptibility to antifungals are necessary to guide treatment.  相似文献

The Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute (CLSI) revised the clinical breakpoints (CBPs) for the azoles and echinocandins against Candida species in 2012. We aimed to report the epidemiology of candidemia and antifungal susceptibility of Candida species and evaluate the impact of new CBPs on antifungal susceptibility in our region. All blood isolates of Candida species were obtained from 2007 to 2012. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of fluconazole, voriconazole, echinocandins and flucytosine against Candida isolates were determined by Sensititre YeastOne system. Differences in susceptibility rates between the CBPs of previous and revised versions of CLSI were examined. Of 709 Candida isolates, the fluconazole‐susceptible rate was 96.5% in Candida albicans, 85.8% in Candida tropicalis and 92.1% in Candida parapsilosis by the revised CBPs. Compared with the susceptibility results by previous CBPs, the marked reductions in susceptibility of C. albicans, C. tropicalis and C. parapsilosis to fluconazole, that of C. tropicalis and C. parapsilosis to voriconazole, that of C. tropicalis and Candida glabrata to anidulafungin and that of C. tropicalis, C. glabrata and Candida krusei to caspofungin by revised CBPs were found. In conclusion, Candida albicans and C. parapsilosis remain highly susceptible to fluconazole. The non‐susceptible rates of Candida species to azoles and echinocandins increase with interpretation by the revised CBPs.  相似文献

The incidence of invasive candidiasis caused by non‐albicans Candida (NAC) spp. is increasing. The aim of this analysis was to evaluate the efficacy of micafungin, caspofungin and liposomal amphotericin B in patients with invasive candidiasis and candidaemia caused by different Candida spp. This post hoc analysis used data obtained from two randomised phase III trials was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of micafungin vs. caspofungin and micafungin vs. liposomal amphotericin B. Treatment success, clinical response, mycological response and mortality were evaluated in patients infected with C. albicans and NAC spp. Treatment success rates in patients with either C. albicans or NAC infections were similar. Outcomes were similar for micafungin, caspofungin and liposomal amphotericin B. Candida albicans was the most prevalent pathogen recovered (41.0%), followed by C. tropicalis (17.9%), C. parapsilosis (14.4%), C. glabrata (10.4%), multiple Candida spp. (7.3%) and C. krusei (3.2%). Age, primary diagnosis (i.e. candidaemia or invasive candidiasis), previous corticosteroid therapy and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score were identified as potential predictors of treatment success and mortality. Micafungin, caspofungin and liposomal amphotericin B exhibit favourable treatment response rates that are comparable for patients infected with different Candida spp.  相似文献

The phenomenon of postantifungal effect (PAFE), which is the suppression of candidal growth following brief exposure to antifungal agents, is linked with candidal pathogenicity. Adhesion to buccal epithelial cells (BEC), germ tube (GT) formation and relative cell surface hydrophobicity (CSH) are all adhesion traits of candidal pathogenicity. Ability to produce haemolysin by Candida species is also a determinant of its pathogenicity. There is no information on either the PAFE or its impact on adhesion traits and haemolysin production of oral Candida dubliniensis isolates following exposure to 5‐fluorocytosine (5‐FC). Hence, the focus of this investigation was to research the in vitro PAFE, adhesion to BEC, GT formation, relative CSH and haemolysin production on 20 C. dubliniensis isolates following exposure to 5‐FC. Following obtaining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 5‐FC, isolates of C. dubliniensis were exposed to sub‐lethal concentrations (×3 MIC) of 5‐FC for 1 h. After this brief exposure, the antimycotic was removed and PAFE, adhesion to BEC, GT formation, relative CSH and haemolysin production was determined by formerly described in vitro methods. MIC (μg/ml) of C. dubliniensis isolates to 5‐FC ranged from 0.002 to 0.125. The mean PAFE (hours) elicited by 5‐FC on C. dubliniensis isolates was approximately 1 h. Exposure to 5‐FC suppressed the ability of C. dubliniensis isolates to adhere BEC, GT formation, relative CSH and haemolysin activity by a mean percentage reduction in 50.98%, 29.51%, 36.79% and 12.75% (P < 0.001 for all) respectively. Therefore, brief exposure of C. dubliniensis isolates to 5‐FC appears to exert an antifungal effect by subduing its growth, adhesion traits as well as haemolysin production.  相似文献

Candida albicans is the major aetiological agent of oral candidosis and one of its important virulent factors is the production of extracellular phospholipases, which can be modulated by subtherapeutic concentrations of antifungal agents thus decreasing their pathogenicity. Hence, considering that chlorhexidine gluconate (CG) is a common antimicrobial mouthwash used in dentistry and that its concentration in the mouth reaches subtherapeutic levels during dosage intervals due to the diluent effect of saliva and cleansing effect of the oral musculature, the postantifungal effect (PAFE) and the phospholipase production of oral C. albicans following brief exposure to subtherapeutic concentrations of CG was studied. Fifty C. albicans planktonic oral isolates obtained from smokers, diabetics, asthmatics using steroid inhalers, partial denture wearers and healthy individuals were exposed to three subtherapeutic concentrations of CG (0.005%, 0.0025% and 0.00125%) for 1 h. Isolates unexposed to CG was the control group. Thereafter the antiseptic was removed and the PAFE and phospholipase production was determined by a turbidometric method and a plate assay using an egg yolk agar medium respectively. Mean PAFE (hours) of 50 oral isolates of C. albicans following 1‐h exposure to 0.005%, 0.0025% and 0.00125% CG was 6.97, 1.85 and 0.62 respectively. The phospholipase production of these isolates was significantly suppressed with a percentage reduction of 21.68, 18.20 and 14.04% following exposure to 0.005%, 0.0025% and 0.00125% CG respectively. Brief exposure of C. albicans isolates to subtherapeutic concentrations of CG would wield an antifungal effect by suppressing growth and phospholipase production, thereby quelling its pathogenicity.  相似文献

Abstract

The in vitro susceptibilities of 183 clinical yeast isolates to sertaconazole (STZ) were compared to their susceptibilities to clotrimazole (CTZ), econazole (ECZ), ketoconazole (KTZ), miconazole (MNZ), fluconazole (FLZ), itraconazole (ITZ), tioconazole (TCZ), amphotericin B (AMB) and flucytosine (5FC) by using a commercial agar diffusion method. Strains were isolated from vaginal and other superficial clinical samples (18 species of Candida and five strains belonging to other yeast genera). Only one strain (0.5%) was resistant to STZ out of 87.4% of susceptible strains (n=160). The percentage of susceptible strains was higher than those obtained with the other agents evaluated and the percentage of resistant strains was lower than for most of the other antifun-gals. The pattern of susceptibility of C. albicans to STZ, TCZ, ITZ and CLZ was similar and superior to the pattern of susceptibility of this species to MNZ, ECZ, FLZ, 5FC and KTZ. C. dubliniensis was more susceptible to STZ, MNZ, MNZ, FLZ, ITZ, CLZ than to TCZ, ECZ, 5FC, AMB or KTZ. Ten susceptible strains to STZ were resistant to FLZ and one strain was resistant to ITZ. The overall antifungal activity of STZ in vitro against a wide range of clinically important yeasts from vaginal and cutaneous samples indicates the therapeutic potential of this agent for the treatment of infections caused by these fungi. However, the activity of STZ and the clinical value of in vitro data need to be verified in human clinical trials.  相似文献

The increasing incidence of vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) and the emergence of fluconazole resistance are an indisputable fact. However, little information is available regarding the correlation between fluconazole resistance in vaginal Candida albicans and the expression of drug efflux pump genes. In this study, we investigated the species distribution, fluconazole susceptibility profiles and the mechanisms of fluconazole resistance in Candida strains. In total, 785 clinical Candida isolates were collected from patients with VVC. C. albicans was the most frequently isolated species (n = 529) followed by C. glabrata (n = 164) and C. krusei (n = 57). Of all Candida isolates, 4.7% were resistant to fluconazole. We randomly selected 18 fluconazole‐resistant isolates of C. albicans to evaluate the expression of CDR1, CDR2, MDR1 and FLU1 genes. Compared with fluconazole‐susceptible C. albicans isolates, CDR1 gene expression displayed 3.16‐fold relative increase, which was statistically significant. CDR2, MDR1 and FLU1 overexpression was observed in several fluconazole‐resistant C. albicans isolates, but statistical significance was not achieved. These results demonstrate a high frequency of non‐albicans species (32.6%); however, C. albicans is the most common Candida species implicated in vaginitis, and this strain displays considerable fluconazole resistance. Meanwhile, our study further indicates that fluconazole resistance in C. albicans may correlate with CDR1 gene overexpression.  相似文献

Epidemiological cut‐off values (ECVs) based on minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) distribution have been recently proposed for some antifungal drug/Cryptococcus neoformans combinations. However, these ECVs vary according to the species studied, being serotypes and the geographical origin of strains, variables to be considered. The aims were to define the wild‐type (WT) population of the C. neoformans species complex (C. neoformans) isolated from patients living in Argentina, and to propose ECVs for six antifungal drugs. A total of 707 unique C. neoformans isolates obtained from HIV patients suffering cryptococcal meningitis were studied. The MIC of amphotericin B, flucytosine, fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole and posaconazole was determined according to the EDef 7.2 (EUCAST) reference document. The MIC distribution, MIC50, MIC90 and ECV for each of these drugs were calculated. The highest ECV, which included ≥95% of the WT population modelled, was observed for flucytosine and fluconazole (32 μg ml?1 each). For amphotericin B, itraconazole, voriconazole and posaconazole, the ECVs were: 0.5, 0.5, 0.5 and 0.06 μg ml?1 respectively. The ECVs determined in this study may aid in identifying the C. neoformans strains circulating in Argentina with decreased susceptibility to the antifungal drugs tested.  相似文献

The aim of our study was to assess epidemiological features of neonatal invasive candidiasis in Farhat Hached hospital of Sousse, Tunisia, including incidence, risk factors, mortality, species distribution and antifungal susceptibility. Laboratory data from 1995 to 2010 and medical records of 127 invasive candidiasis cases were reviewed. We tested the susceptibility of 100 Candida sp isolates by using ATB fungus®3 and to fluconazole by using E‐test® strips. A total of 252 cases of neonatal invasive candidiasis occurred over the study period. The incidence increased 1.8‐fold from 1995 to 2006 and decreased fourfold from 2007 to 2010. Candida albicans was the predominant species up to 2006 and a shift in the species spectrum was observed with increase of the non‐albicans species mainly C. parapsilosis. The agreement between the ATB Fungus® and the E‐test® for determining fluconazole susceptibility was high. All tested isolates were susceptible to fluconazole, flucytosine, amphotéricine B and voriconazole and the itraconazole resistance rate was 5%. The mortality rate was 63%. The invasive candidiasis incidence increased from 1995 to 2006 and decreased from 2007 to 2010. The spectrum of Candida species and the lack of fluconazole‐resistant strains argue for the usefulness of fluconazole as an empiric treatment.  相似文献

Various studies have documented a shift in species distribution in Candida bloodstream infections (BSI), but there are little data from Southeast Asia. This study was performed to determine the species epidemiology and antifungal susceptibilities of Candida species BSI in Singapore. Candida spp. from BSI were collected from a tertiary and secondary referral hospital, and an obstetrics/paediatric hospital over a 3‐year period. The most common isolates were Candida albicans (36%), Candida tropicalis (27%), Candida glabrata (16%) and Candida parapsilosis (16%). Candida parapsilosis and C. albicans were predominant in the paediatric hospital, and C. albicans and C. tropicalis predominant in the other two institutions. Candida tropicalis temporarily replaced C. albicans as the predominant strain from BSI in 2006. Overall, 87.3% of Candida isolates were susceptible to fluconazole, and 10.4% classified as susceptible‐dose‐dependent. Fluconazole resistance was detected in C. tropicalis (3.6%), C. parapsilosis (2.1%) and C. glabrata (4.0%). Candida albicans is the predominant species isolated from BSI in Singapore. However, non‐albicans species accounted for nearly two‐thirds of all cases of candidaemia and the relative increase in C. tropicalis infections deserves further investigation. Resistance to fluconazole was uncommon.  相似文献

Candidaemia still continues to be a serious medical concern and the epidemiology of candidaemia varies according to geographical areas. We aim to determine the incidence, local epidemiology, Candida species distribution and crude mortality rates of candidaemia. We retrospectively evaluated candidaemia episodes in between January 2007 and August 2014. We compared demographic, clinical, microbiological findings and mortality rates of episodes caused by Candida albicans and non‐albicans Candida species. Overall the candidaemia incidences were 1.23 episodes/1000 admissions. A significant negative slope among candidaemia episodes and years was determined. Overall C. albicans (54.6%) was the most common species followed by Candida glabrata, Candida tropicalis and Candida parapsilosis respectively. Preinfection hospital stay and length of hospital stay were statistically longer in patients with non‐albicans Candida candidaemia than in patients with C. albicans candidaemia. The source of candidaemia was unknown in 52.5% of all episodes. Central venous catheters among non‐albicans Candida candidaemia episodes and urinary system among C. albicans candidaemia episodes were common source of candidaemia compared to each other. Previous antifungal therapy preceding candidaemia and concomitant bacteraemia were significantly associated with non‐albicans Candida candidaemia. Continuous local surveillance will preserve its pivotal importance in formulating empirical antifungal therapy and improving management of candidaemia.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine in vitro haemolytic and protease activities of Candida parapsilosis and Candida tropicalis isolates, obtained from anatomically distinct sites. Analysis of haemolytic activity of C. parapsilosis and C. tropicalis isolates obtained from the same anatomic site revealed that C. tropicalis isolates from blood had statistically higher activity (P < 0.05) than C. parapsilosis. On comparison of haemolytic activities of Candida isolates obtained from different anatomic sites, C. parapsilosis isolates from tracheal secretion were found to have higher activity than blood isolates. Protease activity was detected in the majority of the isolates analysed. Analysis of proteinase activity of C. parapsilosis and C. tropicalis isolates obtained from the same anatomic site revealed that C. parapsilosis isolates from tracheal secretion had statistically higher activity than C. tropicalis isolates. On comparison of proteinase activities of Candida isolates obtained from different anatomic sites, C. parapsilosis isolates from tracheal secretion were found to have higher activity than blood and superficial lesions isolates. Furthermore, C. tropicalis isolates from superficial lesions had higher activity than tracheal secretion isolates. Our results show the potential of C. parapsilosis and C. tropicalis isolates, obtained from distinct anatomic sites, to produce haemolytic factor and proteinases. Anatomic sites of isolation seem to be correlated with these activities, particularly for C. parapsilosis isolates.  相似文献

Rhodotorula species have traditionally been considered as one of common non‐virulent environmental inhabitant. They have emerged as an opportunistic pathogen, particularly in immunocompromised hosts and most infections have been associated with intravenous catheters in these patients. We review the isolates in blood cultures of Rhodotorula mucilaginosa in our Hospital. We describe the demographic and clinical features of the cases and the antifungal susceptibility profiles of the isolates. Selected patients had an isolation of R. mucilaginosa in blood cultures in our tertiary care Hospital. All data were collected retrospectively from clinical records during 5 years. We report 8 isolates in blood, two of them were considered contaminants. Immunosuppression, surgery, previous antibiotic therapy were common clinical features. For all the isolates, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values were high for echinocandins and azoles and low for amphotericin B and 5‐flucytosine. One strain showed atypical susceptibility profile. Rhodotorula mucilaginosa may be present on the skin and blood cultures can be contaminated. Fungaemia due to R. mucilaginosa is a rare clinical entity which requires risk factors but clinically relevant because of the multiresistant profile. Rhodotorula mucilaginosa shows high MIC values for azoles and echinocandins, therefore amphotericin B and flucytosine must be administered as antifungal therapy.  相似文献

Candida species are the fourth most common cause of nosocomial invasive infections. Biofilm formation is recognised as one virulence factor of Candida species. A total of 243 Candida albicans, 81 C. glabrata, 33 C. parapsilosis, 14 C. dubliniensis, 8 C. tropicalis, 8 C. lusitaniae, 5 C. krusei and 1 C. pelliculosa isolates causing bloodstream infections were evaluated for biofilm formation. The biofilm formed on silicone elastomer preincubated with human serum was quantified by estimation of the metabolic activity through XTT assay and visualised by light and scanning electron microscopy. Forty per cent of the C. albicans isolates formed biofilm compared to 88.7% of the non‐albicans Candida isolates (P < 0.0001). Among non‐albicans Candida spp., biofilm formation was most commonly observed in C. tropicalis and C. lusitaniae (100%), followed by C. glabrata (95%), C. dubliniensis (85.7%) and C. parapsilosis (66.7%). A quantitative correlation was observed between the amount of biofilm observed microscopically, and that determined by metabolic activity measurements. The biofilms of all Candida species were composed of basal yeast cells with the exception of C. parapsilosis which produced biofilms consisting of pseudohyphae and aggregated yeast cells. These results suggest that biofilm formation as a virulence factor might have a higher significance for non‐albicans Candida species than for C. albicans.  相似文献
