Setting or Patient Care Needs: Which Defines Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Scope of Practice?

The purpose of this article is to provide insight into the roles and population focus of both the family nurse practitioner and the adult gerontology/acute care nurse practitioner. The article looks at problems that seem to be increasing in prevalence in terms of who should be taking care of primary care patients and who should be taking care of acute care patients. Solutions are offered that could keep both types of practitioners out of the sphere of litigation.     

Experiences of Scope of Practice of the Taiwanese Nurse Practitioner

In Taiwan, nurse practitioner (NP) scope of practice regulations were enacted in 2016, but limited information exists about how NPs view their scope of practice. The aim of this study was to gain an understanding of NPs’ perspectives on their scope of practice. A qualitative phenomenographic approach was applied. Thirty Taiwanese NPs were interviewed. Five themes emerged related to the NP experience of their scope of practice: assisting with medical administrative work, performing daily routine care, engaging in interprofessional collaboration, practicing nursing autonomy, and demonstrating advanced care in nursing. The results of this study may provide a foundation for future policy-making endeavors.     

明确麻醉专科护士工作范围的研究

目的从理论上明确适用于我国麻醉专科护士的工作范围。方法采用Delphi(德尔菲)法对20名专家进行2轮问卷函询。结果确立了临床实践、管理、教育、科研4个维度具体54项条目;麻醉专科护士工作范围研究所咨询专家的权威系数为0.85。结论专家积极系数显示专家对麻醉专科护士工作范围研究的认可度高,专家权威程度、各条目同意率等显示专家意见相对集中,麻醉专科护士工作范围可信。     

ICU高级实践护士培养目标的研究

目的确立ICU高级实践护士的培养目标,为构建适合于我国ICU高级护理人才的培训内容提供指导。方法采用Delphi专家咨询法对17名专家就ICU高级实践护士的培养目标进行两轮函询。结果两轮专家咨询的问卷回收率均为100％,专家权威系数为0．88,两轮咨询的所有肯德尔协调系数均有统计学意义（均P％0．01）。培养目标构建中形成了5个一级目标（即积极的职业态度、全面的临床实践能力、熟练的教育咨询能力、基本的临床科研能力和较强的管理领导能力）,18个二级目标和61个二级目标内涵。结论专家的积极性和权威程度高,专家意见协调性好;所形成的培养目标合理,具有可操作性。     

Considerations When Using Telemedicine As the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse

Accessibility to health care is crucial to management of chronic and acute conditions. Although the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 pandemic significantly impacts the issue of access to health care, with the introduction of Waiver 1135, telehealth has become a positive strategy in increasing safe access to health care. This report addresses considerations to take into account when advanced practice registered nurses use telehealth to facilitate access to care.     

Navigating Population Foci and Implications for Nurse Practitioner Scope of Practice

Nurse practitioner (NP) scope of practice is broadly defined by national nursing policies. The Consensus Model for APRN Regulation: Licensure, Accreditation, Certification, and Education is the hallmark policy that establishes principles outlining the scope of practice for all APRNs. NPs must be familiar with The Consensus Model and with how professional organizations define the scope of practice for each of the 6 NP population foci. This knowledge is essential to support NPs practicing within their defined scope of practice.     

Bridging Cultures for Latino Children: School Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse Partnerships

TOPIC:  Barriers to use of mental health services by Latino families include stigma, service costs, and disparity of services with cultural values and traditions. School nurses are in key positions to recognize mental health needs of Latino children and form relationships that facilitate family connections with mental health services. Advanced practice psychiatric nurses may be contracted by school districts to provide consultation to school nurses or may be available to school nurses through connections with school-based health centers. Case examples are provided to illustrate the value of school nurse consultation with an advanced practice psychiatric nurse in promoting awareness of cultural influences on children's symptoms and behaviors and developing culturally sensitive approaches to engage Latino children and families in school and health services.
PURPOSE:  This paper aims to review literature on Latino mental health and present rationale for school nurse and advanced practice nurse partnerships to promote culturally sensitive approaches that facilitate Latino family access and utilization of health services.

Advanced Nursing Practice in daily nursing care: practice development of an acute geriatric Advanced Nursing Practice team

In 2000, the Institute of Nursing Science in Basel started with a clinically oriented Master programme in Advanced Nursing Practice (ANP). The nursing expertise achieved with this degree includes enhanced skills and know-how in a specialised area. Together with their nurse colleagues, the clinically, scientifically, and practice-orientated Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) support and develop nursing practice in Switzerland further, especially for chronically ill and geriatric patients. It is estimated that 25 % of older adults aged 80-years and older experience at least one hospitalisation per year. Beside the acute diagnosis, they suffer from several chronic illnesses. These highly complex and fragile patients need to be cared for by nurses with enhanced practice skills in gerontology. At the acute geriatric ward of the University Hospital Basel a practice development project is ongoing under the guidance of an APN to support person-oriented, geriatric care. The practice development project is led by the principles of action research. The circular process of "look-think-act" facilitates the critical examination of nursing practice. First results show shorter length of hospital stay for patients and improved job-satisfaction and self-efficacy for nurses. This article shortly reveals the history of ANP and highlights the development, implementation, and first results of the practice development project.     

Solving the Riddle of Fibromyalgia: An Evidence-Based Practice Protocol for the Advanced Practice Nurse

Fibromyalgia is one of the most challenging issues in the primary care setting today. The purpose of this article is to provide the health care provider with an evidence-based practice protocol. This includes up-to-date information about the possible etiologies of fibromyalgia, tools to assist diagnosis, and evidence-based recommendations for treatment and evaluation. Educated practitioners can help patients self-regulate this chronic and often debilitating disease.
