Interdisciplinary management of mandibular intraosseous haemagioma

Intraosseous haemagiomas usually occur in the vertebral column, and are rare in the facial bones. Mandibular intraosseous haemangioma makes up less than 1% of all intraosseous tumours. We describe here the presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and outcome in a 15-year-old boy who presented with a mandibular intraosseous haemangioma. He was treated by embolisation, en bloc resection, and immediate replacement of the mandibular segment. We also harvested the proximal tibia bone grafts and inserted four dental implants. He is well 3 years later.     

Interdisciplinary management of anterior dental esthetics

BACKGROUND: Dental esthetics has become a popular topic among all disciplines in dentistry. When a makeover is planned for the esthetic appearance of a patient's teeth, the clinician must have a logical diagnostic approach that results in the appropriate treatment plan. With some patients, the restorative dentist cannot accomplish the correction alone but may require the assistance of other dental disciplines. APPROACH: This article describes an interdisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and management of anterior dental esthetics. The authors practice different disciplines in dentistry: restorative care, orthodontics and periodontics. However, for more than 20 years, this team has participated in an interdisciplinary dental study group that focuses on a wide variety of dental problems. One such area has been the analysis of anterior dental esthetic problems requiring interdisciplinary correction. This article will describe a unique approach to interdisciplinary dental diagnosis, beginning with esthetics but encompassing structure, function and biology to achieve an optimal result. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: If a clinician uses an esthetically based approach to the diagnosis of anterior dental problems, then the outcome of the esthetic treatment plan will be enhanced without sacrificing the structural, functional and biological aspects of the patient's dentition.     

Complications with intermaxillary fixation screws in the management of fractured mandibles

A dedicated bicortical bone screw for temporary intraoperative intermaxillary fixation (IMF) during open reduction and fixation of mandibular fractures offers many benefits to surgeons and patients. We have used this system for 2 years and confirm the benefits over traditional methods of intermaxillary fixation. However, complications can arise. One hundred and twenty-two patients with mandibular fractures had IMF screws of which five (4%) developed complications intraoperatively and postoperatively. Complications included fracture of the screws on insertion, iatrogenic damage to teeth causing loss and bony sequestra around the area of screw placement.     

颌间牵引钛钉在颌骨骨折整复中的应用

对48例颌骨骨折病例,应用颌间牵引钛钉进行颌间牵引,恢复上下颌的关系并加以固定,然后在此基础上完成骨折的坚强内同定。术后保留颌间牵引钛钉,2d后冉行牵引,2周后拆除颌间牵引钛钉。48例患者伤口均一期愈合．咬合关系恢复理想。拆除颌间牵引钛钉后,创面均在3～5d愈合。48例中,术后第2天观察,咬合关系完全恢复45例．局部轻度开he3例．经术后颌间牵引2周,咬合关系完全恢复。颌间牵引钛钉可以成为一种新的颌间结扎方法,取代传统的以牙为固定源的牙弓夹板同定方法。     

Surgical intervention to reestablish adequate intermaxillary space before fixed or removable prosthodontics.

Supraeruption of the right maxillary molars and concomitant drop of the alveolar ridge resulted in loss of intermaxillary space. With the patient under local anesthesia and intravenous sedation, a posterior segmental osteotomy was performed, on an outpatient basis, to reposition this segment superiorly into the maxillary sinus. Stabilization was accomplished with a prefabricated acrylic splint. The patient quickly resumed her daily routine with normal postoperative healing and satisfactory intermaxillary space.     

Interdisciplinary management of a common esthetic complaint

Esthetic restoration of the maxillary anterior dentition often requires an integrated perio-restorative team approach. Careful attention to treatment planning and treatment sequencing is essential in ensuring a desirable outcome and a satisfied patient. Detailed measurements, diagnostic wax-ups, surgical mock-ups, and stents all are effective communication tools which can be used to enhance interdisciplinary communication. These concepts and treatment modalities are illustrated in this case report.     

Interdisciplinary management of an adult patient with significant tooth wear

Adult patients may present with compromised dentitions which require extensive oral rehabilitation. This case report shows the fulfilment of both functional and aesthetic treatment objectives for a patient with significant tooth wear through carefully planned interdisciplinary management. © 2022 Australian Dental Association.     

Interdisciplinary management of impacted maxillary central incisor with dilacerated crown

Introduction

Dilaceration of the permanent teeth usually occurs because of trauma to their deciduous predecessors. Dilaceration in the crown is rare compared with that in the root and is more common in the maxillary and mandibular incisors. Generally, surgical exposure of the tooth followed by orthodontic traction or extraction of the tooth is the the choice of treatment.

Methods

This article highlights a surgical-endodontic approach to the management of the left permanent maxillary central incisor with dilaceration of the crown.

Results

The 1-year follow-up showed good stability of the prosthesis and good periodontal health.

Conclusions

Surgical resection of the crown followed by endodontic treatment and restoration is a viable and rapid option for the management of crown dilaceration.     

Interdisciplinary management of a patient with a drug-induced gingival hyperplasia

Interdisciplinary treatment is becoming an ever-increasing part of modern-day orthodontic practice. This case report details the successful orthodontic-periodontal management of an epileptic patient with a significant drug-induced gingival hyperplasia. The problems that such patient's present are discussed before considering the specific orthodontic techniques employed. Recommendations are made for practitioners managing such cases.
