Education review: Meeting statewide needs for health information management education through distance education

In 1990 a need was expressed for a baccalaureate degree in health information management (HIM) for HIM employees who could not leave their jobs and/or families to attend classes 150 miles away. Faculty from the Medical College of Georgia, the state's health sciences university, began teaching one class per quarter at St. Joseph Hospital in Atlanta in 1993. In conjunction with DeKalb College in Atlanta, the Medical College of Georgia now offers the entire HIM curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree. Classes are taught by faculty at the Medical College of Georgia through the use of ?electronic classrooms? equipped with two-way interactive video cameras and monitors, special detail cameras, and state-of-the-art computers. The Medical College of Georgia now offers the only baccalaureate degree in HIM in the state university system.

目的:对民族地区妇幼卫生工作绩效考核项目实施效果进行评估,推动民族地区妇幼卫生工作绩效考核工作。方法:制定评估方案,成立国家级评估组,采用座谈会、现场考查、个人技术考核、个人定性访谈等方法,对项目县绩效考核项目实施效果进行现场评估。结果:通过项目实施,提高了当地对妇幼卫生绩效考核工作的认识;帮助当地掌握绩效考核标准和考核方法;项目地区绩效考核工作初见成效。结论:通过项目实施在一定程度上促进了当地政府对妇幼卫生工作的重视,加大了对妇幼卫生工作的支持力度,促进了当地妇幼卫生体系建设与发展,规范了妇幼保健服务。

Customer relationship management (CRM) is a business strategy, supported by applications and technologies, that can fundamentally transform how healthcare delivery organizations manage patient and physician interactions, reduce cost, improve customer-facing processes, drive market and revenue growth, and manage regulatory compliance processes.     

Meeting the needs of rural populations through interdisciplinary partnerships

This article describes the organization and outcomes of a Rural Health Outreach Initiative (RHOI) designed to increase collaboration between the medical education and health care delivery sectors to improve the quality of health care delivery and health outcomes in rural communities. Two inter-related partnership strategies were utilized in rural communities to address the health and social service needs of rural populations. The partnerships were created through the efforts of a rural health professions education program located in a community-based medical school. The two partnership models were implemented at the same time and target the same rural populations. Both strategies relied upon interdisciplinary collaborations to achieve their goals and outcomes. One strategy involved the creation of partnerships among rural medical students and the projects they initiate, using the model of community oriented primary care (COPC). The second strategy involved the establishment of partnerships by a variety of rural, community-based entities that resulted from a three-year Health Resources and Services Administration Rural Health Outreach grant that supported a "mini-grant" program. This article summarizes the process and results of these innovative collaborations that occurred at two levels: (1) between health and service institutions representing multiple disciplines and (2) between academic institutions and local communities. Specific attention is given to projects that resulted from the work of the partnerships that address the needs of older adults residing in the rural communities. The two strategies are compared and implications for the success of similar efforts are discussed.     

Meeting the health care needs of persons with disabilities

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has established the Office of Priority Populations Research and is currently developing a research agenda to improve health care for persons with disability (PWDs). This article describes the background of and potential for the AHRQ disability agenda and some of the challenges ahead and considers future directions for disability-related health services research. Strategies for this agenda might include ensuring the inclusion of PWDs in current and future health care research studies and database development; support for studies and data focusing exclusively on PWDs; and support for studies of the challenges common to all or most of the priority populations.
