Laparoscopic extraction of an intrahepatic foreign body after transduodenal migration in a child

We report on a 3-year-old boy who, after ingestion of turpentine, had an x-ray and was incidentally diagnosed with an intrahepatic needle. He was asymptomatic with no history of needle ingestion. Imaging (ultrasound and computed tomographic scans) showed a needle in segment 1, close to the inferior vena cava, with a proximal end in contact with the superior angle of the duodenum. Because of the localization of the needle and subsequent risks of complications, removal was proposed. Laparoscopy showed dense adhesions between liver and duodenum, confirming the migration route. Laparoscopic extraction of an entire sewing needle was performed. Postoperative course was uneventful; the child was discharged home after 2 days and is alive and well 19 months after surgery.Laparoscopy may be useful in children for extraction of intrahepatic foreign bodies, after transduodenal migration.     

Laparoscopic removal of an intravesical foreign body after laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy: a case report and review of the literatures

A foreign body in the bladder is a rare occurrence. Although most intravesical foreign bodies can be removed successfully using endoscopic transurethral extraction, suprapubic cystotomy may be required for the removal of large bodies. We report a case of an intravesical mass 8 cm in diameter that was successfully removed using laparoscopic cystotomy without further complications. The foreign body was a leiomyoma of the uterus that had not been removed during laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy. The myoma entered into the bladder through a defect that was not diagnosed nor repaired until after the vaginal extraction portion of the laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy. Laparoscopic removal of intravesical foreign bodies is desirable because it can shorten the duration of postoperative recovery, decrease morbidity, and reduce the incidence of postoperative complications. Laparoscopy is a useful modality for resolving complications within the urinary bladder.     

A very unusual intravesical foreign body in a male

We present a case of a battery as foreign bodyin the bladder in a 36-year-old man. Many kindsof foreign bodies in the bladder have beenreported but to our knowledge this is the firstcase of a battery. The diagnosis and thetreatment of the case is discussed.     

Ship in a bottle: rapid extraction of large intravesical foreign bodies

Objects placed in the bladder often become encrusted with stone. Using a technique combining endoscopic visualization and a small open cystotomy, a large encrusted foreign body was successfully and safely removed. The combination of endoscopy and cystotomy is rapid, safe, and potentially applicable for the removal of large vesical calculi.     

Laparoscopic removal of a pancreatic foreign body.

We present a case report of a laparoscopically retrieved foreign body that migrated into the pancreas. The patient is a 44-year-old man who presented with epigastric pain and was subsequently found by computed tomographic scan to have a foreign body in the head of the pancreas. After attempted endoscopic retrieval, we successfully removed the foreign body laparoscopically, thus avoiding laparotomy. Laparoscopy is an effective tool for pancreatic exploration.     

Endoscopic basket extraction of a urethral foreign body

The presence of a foreign body in the genitourinary tract represents a urologic challenge that often requires prompt intervention. We describe an endoscopic approach that was used for removal of a foreign body located in the prostatic urethra of a schizophrenic man. A nitinol stone basket was used as an effective means for extraction of a large metal screw from the urethra of this patient.     

Intrahepatic foreign body laparoscopic extraction

An 11-month-old boy presented with an intrahepatic foreign body after ingestion of a sewing needle. Surgical management using an exclusive laparoscopic extraction was successful.     

Fragmentation and transurethral removal in saline of an intravesical foreign body: a case report

A 28-year-old male visited our hospital with complaint of lower abdominal pain, hematuria and urinary urgency. He had inserted a fishing line into the bladder transurethrally for sexual masturbation. The fishing line was made of nylon and was 1.66 mm in diameter. He could not remove it by himself due to pain. Retraction of the line with forceps was impossible ; the intricately entangled line was blocked at the bladder neck. We fragmented the line by a transurethral resection system operated in saline (TURis) and removed it transurethrally. The total length of the fishing line in the bladder reached 464 cm. TURis was useful for fragmentation of this foreign object, which consisted of electro-resistant material and could not be cut by conventional TUR.     

Laparoscopic intraperitoneal foreign body from adhesive drapes

The present paper reports three cases where portions of adhesive drape were drawn into the peritoneal cavity during cannula insertion. If adhesive drapes are used it is recommended that generous skin incisions be made to avoid this complication.     

腹腔镜小肠内异物取出术6例报告

目的:总结腹腔镜下小肠内异物取出术的手术经验及技巧.方法:回顾分析为6例患者施行腹腔镜小肠内异物取出术的临床资料.结果:6例均于腹腔镜下成功取出小肠内异物,无术中大出血、术后肠漏等并发症发生.结论:腹腔镜小肠内异物取出术是安全可行的,具有明显的优势.     

Case report: An unusual intravesical foreign body: Cause of recurrent urinary tract infections

A 16-year-old boy presented with recurrenturinary tract infections in spite of antibiotictreatment. Investigations revealed the presenceof an unusual intravesical foreign body i.e. acommon ballpoint. It was removed viacystostomy. In any patient presenting withrecurrent urinary tract infections thepossibility of an intravesical foreign bodyshould always be considered.     

Magnet extraction of frontal sinus foreign body

We report a metallic foreign body that entered through the anterior table of the frontal sinus, and rolled down to lodge in the nasofrontal duct. An electromagnet was used to remove the foreign body through a trephination.
