Short fiber reinforced plastics (SFRPs) have excellent moldability and productivity compared to continuous fiber composites. In this study, thermoelastic stress analysis (TSA) was applied to detect delamination defects in short carbon fiber reinforced plastics (SCFRPs). The thermoelastic temperature change ΔTE, phase of thermal signal θE, and second harmonic temperature component ΔTD were measured. In the fatigue test of SCFRP, it was confirmed that changes in ΔTE, θE, and ΔTD appeared in the damaged regions. A staircase-like stress level test for a SCFRP specimen was conducted to investigate the generation mechanism of the ΔTD. The distortion of the temperature change appeared at the maximum tension stress of the sinusoidal load—and when the stress level decreased, the temperature change returned to the original sinusoidal waveform. ΔTD changed according to the change in the maximum stress during the staircase-like stress level test, and a large value of ΔTD was observed in the final ruptured region. A distortion of the temperature change and ΔTD was considered to be caused by the change in stress sharing condition between the fiber and resin due to delamination damage. Therefore, ΔTD can be applied to the detection of delamination defects and the evaluation of damage propagation.  相似文献

This paper reports on the flexural behavior of nine steel fiber reinforced-recycled aggregate concrete (SFRAC) beams through combined experimental and finite element analysis. The test parameters in this study include the steel fiber volume fraction, recycled aggregate replacement ratio, and concrete strength. The failure modes, crack development, load-deflection curves, and flexural bearing capacity of SFRAC beams are investigated in detail. The test results indicated that cracks and concrete crushing are formed in the compression zone of all specimens. The flexural bearing capacity of SFRAC beams increases with the increase of steel fiber volume fraction and concrete strength and the decrease of recycled aggregate replacement ratio. In addition, the results are compared with those of the finite element analysis. Based on the uniaxial compressive constitutive model of SFRAC, a new model for calculating the flexural bearing capacity of SFRAC beams is proposed. The prediction and test results are compared to evaluate the accuracy of the developed formula. The studies may provide a considerable reference for designing this type of structure in engineering practice.  相似文献

In this study, the semicircle three-point bending tests of ordinary asphalt concrete and basalt fiber asphalt concrete were carried out and acoustic emission parameters were collected during the test. The differences of the characteristics of acoustic emission parameters between basalt fiber asphalt concrete and ordinary asphalt concrete were analyzed, and the damage stages were divided based on the variation of acoustic emission parameters; Rise Angle and Average Frequency were introduced to study the cracking mode and crack resistance mechanism of asphalt concrete with basalt fiber. The results show that the acoustic emission parameters can well represent the toughening and crack resistance effect of basalt fiber in asphalt concrete, and the damage stages can be divided into three stages: microcrack initiation stage, fracture stage, and residual stage. The duration of the fracture stage and the load resistance time of the specimen were greatly prolonged. The proportion of shear events in the whole failure process increased greatly after the basalt fibers were added, especially in the fracture stage, which reduced the tensile failure tendency of the specimens, and thus improved the bending and tensile performance of the specimens and played a toughening and crack resistance role in the fracture stage.  相似文献

A bond mechanism at the reinforcement-concrete interface is one of the key sources of the comprehensive functioning of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. In order to apprehend the bond mechanism, the study on bond stress and slip relation (henceforth referred as bond-slip) is necessary. On this subject, experimental and numerical investigations were performed on short RC tensile specimens. A double pull-out test with pre-installed electrical strain gauge sensors inside the modified embedded rebar was performed in the experimental part. Numerically, a three dimensional rib scale model was designed and finite element analysis was performed. The compatibility and reliability of the numerical model was verified by comparing its strain result with an experimentally obtained one. Afterwards, based on stress transfer approach, the bond-slip relations were calculated from the extracted strain results. The maximum disparity between experimental and numerical investigation was found as 19.5% in case of strain data and 7% for the bond-slip relation at the highest load level (110 kN). Moreover, the bond-slip curves at different load levels were compared with the bond-slip model established in CEB-fib Model Code 2010 (MC2010). Overall, in the present study, strain monitoring through the experimental tool and finite element modelling have accomplished a broader picture of the bond mechanism at the reinforcement-concrete interface through their bond-slip relationship.  相似文献

Due to the rapid increase in population, the use of automobile vehicles increases day by day, which causes a considerable increase in the waste tires produced worldwide. Research studies are in progress to utilize scrap tires and waste rubber material in several fields to cater the pollution problems in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. In this research, the shredded waste tires were used in concrete to replace fine aggregates in different percentages. The fine aggregates in the rubberized concrete were replaced 10%, 15%, and 20% by rubber. The stress–strain behavior of the concrete models is then determined and compared with the already established analytical models, i.e., Modified Kent and Park Model, Mander’s model, and Razvi and Saatcioglu Model. A total of 12 standard concrete cylinders and 18 models of each type of concrete, i.e., normal concrete, reinforced rubberized concrete with 10%, 15%, and 20% addition of rubber, were fabricated. Specimens fabricated in each replacement of rubber were laterally confined, employing 3 in (76 mm) and 6 in (152 mm) c/c tie spacing. The model and cylinders were subjected to uni-axial compression tests using Universal Testing Machine (UTM). The drop in compressive strength, stress–strain constitutive law, strain limits, and overall behavior of the rubberized reinforced concrete were explored experimentally. The results were then compared with the analytical results of the established models. The research can help explore the possible future for the use of rubberized concrete for the potential application as a structural material.  相似文献

In this study, the safe critical temperature that can be tolerated by CFRP tendons under normal working conditions was derived through tensile tests at room and high temperatures. Next, the times required to reach a safe critical temperature for CFRP cables protected with different types of fire-retardant materials of various thicknesses were determined through fire resistance tests, Finally, fitting the surface of the finite element simulation results allowed the establishment of the temperature rise calculation model of CFRP tendons under the protection of fire-retardant materials. The results showed that 300 °C can be regarded as the safe critical temperature. Both high-silica needled felt and ceramic fiber felt exhibited high fireproof performance. With an increase in the thickness of the fire-retardant material, the time for the CFRP tendon to reach the inflection point of the heating rate increased, and the safe fire resistance time increased exponentially. According to the HC temperature rise curve, the fire resistance time of CFRP tendons protected by 24 mm thick high-silica needled felt was 45 min, and that for CFRP tendons protected by 24 mm thick ceramic fiber felt was 39.5 min. Under the action of fire corresponding to the hydrocarbon temperature rise model, the safe fire resistance time of CFRP tendons protected by 45 mm high-silica needled felt or 50 mm ceramic fiber felt was more than 2 h, sufficient to meet the specification. The proposed model of fire resistance performance enables the determination of the thickness of the fire resistance material required to obtain different degrees of fire resistance for CFRP cables for structural use.  相似文献

Developing more resilient and sustainable physical infrastructure increases the demand for sustainable materials and strengthening approaches. Many investigations into strengthening RC beam structures have used either externally bonded (EB) or near-surface mounted (NSM) systems with synthetic fibre reinforced polymer composites. These synthetic fibres are unsustainable since they involve the use of nonrenewable resources and a large amount of energy. Research shows that natural fibre reinforced polymer (NFRP) composites may be an alternative to synthetic FRP composites in the strengthening of concrete beams. However, there is limited literature that validates their performance in various structural applications. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to explore the advances, prospects, and gaps of using EB/NSM NFRP techniques in strengthening concrete beams to provide areas for future research directions. The NSM FRP technique provides improved strengthening effects and mitigates the concerns associated with the EB system, based on a wider range of applications using synthetic FRPs. However, the NSM NFRP strengthening technique has been underutilized, though the EB NFRP system has been more commonly explored in reviewed studies. The knowledge gaps and areas for proposed future research directions are essential in developing work in emerging NFRPs and strengthening techniques for sustainable infrastructure.  相似文献

This paper presents an investigation of the bond mechanism between carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates, concrete and steel in the near-surface mounted (NSM) CFRP-strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) beam-bond tests. The experimental program consisting of thirty modified concrete beams flexurally strengthened with NSM CFRP strips was published in. The effects of five parameters and their interactions on the ultimate load carrying capacities and the associated bond mechanisms of the beams are investigated in this paper with consideration of the following investigated parameters: beam span, beam depth, longitudinal tensile steel reinforcement ratio, the bond length of the CFRP strips and compressive concrete strength. The longitudinal steel reinforcement was cut at the beam mid-span in four beams to investigate a better assessment of the influence of the steel reinforcement ratio on the bond behaviour of CFRP to concrete bond behaviour. The numerical analysis implemented in this paper is based on a nonlinear micromechanical finite element model (FEM) that was used for investigation of the flexural behaviour of NSM CFRP-strengthened members. The 3D model based on advanced CFRP to concrete bond responses was introduced to modelling of tested specimens. The FEM procedure presents the orthotropic behaviour of the CFRP strips and the bond response between the CFRP and concrete. Comparison of the experimental and numerical results revealed an excellent agreement that confirms the suitability of the proposed FE model.  相似文献

It is extremely important to investigate the effect of the seismic performance of corrosion-damaged reinforced concrete (RC) members, in terms of strength and deformability, on the seismic performance of the entire building. This will allow a more accurate assessment of the seismic performance of RC structures with corroded members, including beams and columns. However, current methods of evaluating the seismic performance of RC structures fail to fully consider the influence of reinforcement corrosion and other performance deterioration of RC members. The main objective of this study is to propose a practical method of evaluating the seismic performance of RC structures with corrosion-damaged members, identifying factors contributing to structural performance deterioration based on strength and deformability for direct, quantitative evaluation of seismic performance. To achieve the aforementioned objective, the authors examined the effects of reinforcement corrosion on the structural behavior of RC beams and factors contributing to structural performance deterioration. Past experiments verified the strong correlation between the half-cell potential (HCP) before and after reinforcement corrosion and the reduction factor based on energy absorption capacity. However, current research evaluates the correlation between the extent of corrosion and structural performance deterioration of RC beam members, which are not members that resist lateral force. As such, the results cannot be directly applied to the evaluation of the seismic performance of RC structures containing corrosion-damaged members. To achieve this study’s main purpose of proposing a practical method of evaluating the seismic performance of RC structures comprised of corrosion-damaged members, analytical methods including structural experiments should be applied to corrosion-damaged lateral resisting members, namely, column members of the shear failure type with non-seismic details. This study performed cyclic loading tests on columns of the shear failure type having reinforcement corrosion to examine the correlation between HCP before and after corrosion and seismic performance deterioration. At the same time, finite element analysis (FEA) was carried out in consideration of the weakened bonding between steel and concrete, so as to analyze the correlation between structural performance deterioration before and after corrosion of shear columns. Through a comparison of the experimental findings and FEA results, this study proposed a seismic performance reduction factor in relation to the extent of corrosion of shear columns.  相似文献

The effect of combining filler (carbon black) and fibrous materials (steel fiber and polypropylene fiber) with various sizes of coarse particles on the post-cracking behavior of conductive concrete was investigated in this study. Steel fibers (SF) and carbon black (CB) were added as monophasic, diphasic, and triphasic materials in the concrete to enhance the conductive properties of reinforced concrete. Polypropylene fiber (PP) was also added to steel fiber and carbon to improve the post-cracking behavior of concrete beams. This research mainly focused on the effects of macro fibers on toughness parameters and energy absorption capacity, as well as enhancing the self-sensing of multiple cracks and post-cracking behavior. Fractional changes in resistance and crack opening displacement (COD-FCR) and the relationship of load-deflection-FCR with different coarse aggregates of (5–10 mm and 15–20 mm) sizes were investigated, and the law of resistance signal changes with single and multiple cracking through load-time-FCR curves was explored. Results indicated that the smaller size coarse aggregates (5–10 mm) showed higher compressive strength: up to 8.3% and 14.83% with diphasic (SF + CB), respectively. The flexural strength of PC-10 increased 22.60 and 51.2%, respectively, with and without fibers, compared to PC-20. The diphasic and triphasic conductive material with the smaller size of aggregates (5–10 mm) increased the FCR values up to 38.95% and 42.21%, respectively, as compared to those of greater size coarse aggregates (15–20 mm). The hybrid uses of fibrous and filler materials improved post-cracking behavior as well as the self-sensing ability of reinforced concrete.  相似文献

With steel fiber and basalt fiber volume dosing serving as variation parameters, a total of 200 d cycles of acid rain corrosion cycle tests were conducted on fiber concrete in this study. We selected three durability evaluation parameters to assess the degree of damage deterioration on fiber concrete, used scanning electron microscopy, mercury intrusion porosimetry, and a dimensional microhardness meter to analyze the concrete micromorphology, and established a GM(1,1)-Markov model for life prediction of its durability. Results reveal that the acid rain environment is the most sensitive to the influence of the relative dynamic elastic modulus evaluation parameter, and concrete has specimens that show failure damage under this parameter evaluation. Incorporation of fibers can reduce the amount of corrosion products inside the concrete, decrease the proportion of harmful pores, optimize the mean pore-size, and significantly improve the resistance to acid rain attack. Concrete with 2% steel fiber and 0.1% basalt fiber by volume has the least change in durability damage, and the predicted service life by GM(1,1)-Markov model is 322 d.  相似文献

Double strap lap adhesive joints between metal (AA 6061-T6) and composite (carbon/epoxy) laminates were fabricated and characterized based on strength. Hand layup methods were used to fabricate double strap match lap joints and double strap mismatch lap joints. These joints were compared for their strength under static and fatigue loadings. Fracture toughness (GIIC) was measured experimentally using tensile testing and validated with numerical simulations using the cohesive zone model (CZM) in ABAQUS/Standard. Fatigue life under tension–tension fluctuating sinusoidal loading was determined experimentally. Failure loads for both joints were in close relation, whereas the fatigue life of the double strap mismatch lap joint was longer than that of the double strap match lap joint. A cohesive dominating failure pattern was identified in tensile testing. During fatigue testing, it was observed that inhomogeneity (air bubble) in adhesive plays a negative role while the long time duration between two consecutive cycle spans has a positive effect on the life of joints.  相似文献

In the last few years, there has been increasing interest in the use of Ultrahigh-Performance Fibre-Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) layers or jackets, which have been proved to be quite effective in strengthening applications. However, to facilitate the extensive use of UHPFRC in strengthening applications, reliable numerical models need to be developed. In the case of UHPFRC, it is common practice to perform either direct tensile or flexural tests to determine the UHPFRC tensile stress–strain models. However, the geometry of the specimens used for the material characterization is, in most cases, significantly different to the geometry of the layers used in strengthening applications which are normally of quite small thickness. Therefore, and since the material properties of UHPFRC are highly dependent on the dimensions of the examined specimens, the so called “size effect” needs to be considered for the development of an improved modelling approach. In this study, direct tensile tests have been used and a constitutive model for the tensile behaviour of UHPFRC is proposed, taking into consideration the size of the finite elements. The efficiency and reliability of the proposed approach has been validated using experimental data on prisms with different geometries, tested in flexure and in direct tension.  相似文献

Recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) is a typical construction and demolition (C&D) material generated in civil engineering activities and has been widely used as the coarse-grained filler added to sand for roadbed fillings. The effect of RCA content on the mechanical behavior of sand–RCA mixtures is complicated and still not fully understood. To explore the effect of RCA content on the macroscale and microscopic behavior of the sand–RCA mixtures with various RCA contents, laboratory direct shear tests and numerical simulations using the 3D discrete element method were performed. Experimental direct shear tests on sand–RCA mixtures with different contents of RCA were first carried out. Numerical direct shear models were then established to represent the experimental results. The particle shape effect was also considered using a new realistic shape modeling method to model the RCA particles. Good agreement was observed between the DEM simulation and experimental results, verifying the ability of the numerical direct shear models to represent the direct shear behavior of sand–RCA mixtures. The macroscopic responses of both experimental and numerical tests showed that all samples presented an initial hardening followed by a post-peak strain softening. The peak-state friction angles increased with the RCA content for samples under the same vertical stress. The effect of RCA content on the microscopic behavior based on DEM simulation was also found. The microscopic properties of RCA–sand mixtures, such as coordination numbers, PDFs and contact force transformation features, were analyzed and related to the macroscopic results.  相似文献

In recent years, recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) has become a research hotspot in the field of urban construction because of its resource utilization of construction waste. However, compared with original concrete, its strength is still low, which requires additional nano-SiO2 (NS) and fiber. In order to study the mechanism of strength improvement of RAC, this paper takes NS and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber as variable parameters; uniaxial and triaxial compression tests were carried out on RAC with PVA fiber and NS, and the mechanical properties of RAC were investigated The result shows that within the range of 3% NS content, an increase in the NS substitution rate causes the mechanical properties of RAC to improve significantly. The compressive strength of RAC increases again after adding PVA fiber; through a SEM (scanning electron microscopy) analysis of the specimen, it was found that the NS filled the micro-pores and micro-cracks in the RAC, and the PVA fiber changed the contact range between recycled aggregate and mortar, so the microstructure of the material was more compact. The mechanism of RAC strength improvement is explained in the microcosmic view.  相似文献
