Objective

This study evaluated the effect of three metal conditioners on the shear bond strength (SBS) of a prosthetic composite material to cpTi grade I having three surface treatments.

Material and Methods

One hundred sixty eight rivet-shaped specimens (8.0x2.0 mm) were cast and subjected to polishing (P) or sandblasting with either 50 mm (50SB) or 250 mm (250SB) Al2O3. The metal conditioners Metal Photo Primer (MPP), Cesead II Opaque Primer (OP), Targis Link (TL), and one surface modification system Siloc (S), were applied to the specimen surfaces, which were covered with four 1-mm thick layers of resin composite. The resin layers were exposed to curing light for 90 s separately. Seven specimens from each experimental group were stored in water at 37ºC for 24 h while the other 7 specimens were subjected to 5,000 thermal cycles consisting of water baths at 4ºC and 60ºC (n=7). All specimens were subjected to SBS test (0.5 mm/min) until failure occurred, and further 28 specimens were analyzed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Data were analyzed by 3-way ANOVA followed by post-hoc Tukey''s test (α=0.05).

Results

On 50SB surfaces, OP groups showed higher SBS means than MPP (P<0.05), while no significant difference was found among OP, S, and TL groups. On 250SB surfaces, OP and TL groups exhibited higher SBS than MPP and S (P<0.05). No significant difference in SBS was found between OP and TL groups nor between MPP and S groups. The use of conditioners on 250SB surfaces resulted in higher SBS means than the use of the same products on 50SB surfaces (P<0.05).

Conclusion

Sandblasting associated with the use of metal conditioners improves SBS of resin composites to cpTi.  相似文献

This in vitro study evaluated the shear bond strength (SBS) of dentin treated with two 10% carbamide peroxide bleaching agents 15 days after bleaching and storage in artificial saliva. Dentin fragments were randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 20) for the treatment with the two different bleaching agents (Rembrandt 10% or Opalescence 10%) or with a placebo agent, applied to the tooth surface for 8 hours a day. During the remaining time, the specimens were stored in artificial saliva. After 42 days, the fragments were stored in artificial saliva for 14 days. Another group (n = 20) was exposed to distilled and deionized water for 56 days. An adhesive system and microhybrid composite resin were used to prepare specimens for the SBS test. SBS tests were performed and the fractured surfaces were visually examined using a stereoscope at 30 x magnification. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) and SIDAK tests showed higher SBS values for dentin treated with Opalescence 10% than for dentin treated with Rembrandt 10% or placebo. Groups treated with Rembrandt 10%, Opalescence 10% or placebo did not differ from the group treated with distilled and deionized water. Ten percent carbamide peroxide agents or a placebo agent caused no differences in SBS of dentin after 15 days of storage in artificial saliva.  相似文献

AIM: To (i) determine the effect of nonvital bleaching with 10% carbamide peroxide on the sealing ability of resin composite restorations bonded with a self-etching adhesive system; and (ii) compare the effects of antioxidant treatment and delayed restoration after bleaching on marginal seal. METHODOLOGY: Forty-eight noncarious maxillary incisors were divided into four groups (n=12) after conventional root canal treatment was completed. In group 1, access cavities were restored with a self-etching adhesive system and resin composite. In the remaining three groups, 10% carbamide peroxide bleaching gel was placed into the access cavities for periods of 8 h per day for 1 week. They were then restored in the same manner as group 1. Group 2 consisted of specimens restored immediately after bleaching. Group 3 specimens were treated with the antioxidant, 10% sodium ascorbate, whereas group 4 specimens were immersed in artificial saliva for 1 week before restoration. Ten specimens in each group were then subjected to dye leakage; the remaining 2 specimens were examined in a SEM (Jeol/JSM 5200, Tokyo, Japan). The dye penetration was assessed with the standard scoring system. Statistical analysis was carried out using the Kruskal-Wallis and the Mann-Whitney tests. RESULTS: Groups 1, 3 and 4 exhibited similar leakage patterns and significantly less leakage than group 2 (P<0.0083). SEM examination of groups 1, 3 and 4 specimens demonstrated close adaptation of resin composite to cavity walls, whereas group 2 specimens did not. CONCLUSION: Nonvital bleaching with 10% carbamide peroxide adversely affected the immediate sealing ability of resin composite restoration; both 10% sodium ascorbate treatment and a 1-week delay in restoration following bleaching improved the reduced sealing ability of resin composite.  相似文献

This study examined the effect of 10 and 35% carbamide peroxide bleaching agents on the surface roughness of enamel, feldspathic porcelain, and microfilled and microhybrid composite resins. Standardized cylindrical specimens were prepared for restorative materials. Enamel samples were obtained from buccal and lingual surfaces of human molars. Samples from each substrate were divided in three subgroups (n=10), according to surface treatment: distilled water (control), and 10 and 35% carbamide peroxide. The 10% agent was applied 3 h daily and the 35% agent was applied for 30 min/week, at 37°C, during 21 days. Control samples remained stored in distilled water, at 37°C. Roughness measurements (Ra, μm) were made at 24 h and repeated after 7, 14 and 21 days of exposure. Data were analyzed using ANOVA (split-plot design) and Tukey's test (5% significance level). Samples from control groups showed no significant alteration during all test periods, while for exposure to 10% agent, only the porcelain presented a rougher surface after 21 days (p<0.05). For the 35% product, roughness means significantly increased during the first and second weeks for enamel (p<0.05), and after 21 days for porcelain (p<0.05) and for the microhybrid composite (p<0.05). Microfilled samples showed no significant alteration throughout the 21-day period, regardless of the surface treatment.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the microhardness of human dentin exposed to two 10% carbamide peroxide agents at different bleaching times. METHOD AND MATERIALS: Opalescence 10% and Rembrandt 10% were tested. A placebo agent was used as a control group. The bleaching and placebo agents were applied to the surface of human dentin fragments for 8 hours and then stored in individual receptacles with artificial saliva for the remaining 16 hours each day. Microhardness testing was performed at baseline, after 8 hours, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, and 42 days of treatment, and 7 and 14 days posttreatment. RESULTS: Analysis of Variance and the Tukey test revealed significant differences in microhardness values for dentin treated with the agents within each time interval. There was a decrease in the microhardness values of dentin for both bleaching agents after 8 hours of treatment. Fourteen days after the completion of treatment, the microhardness values for dentinal surfaces treated with either Opalescence or Rembrandt reached the baseline values; the dentinal surfaces treated with a placebo exhibited an increase in microhardness values posttreatment. CONCLUSION: Ten percent carbamide peroxide bleaching agents decreased dentinal microhardness over time, but after 14 days in artificial saliva storage at the completion of treatment, the baseline microhardness values were recovered.  相似文献

Objective

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of multiple layers of an infection control barrier on the micro-hardness of a composite resin.

Material and Methods

One, two, four, and eight layers of an infection control barrier were used to cover the light guides of a high-power light emitting diode (LED) light curing unit (LCU) and a low-power halogen LCU. The composite specimens were photopolymerized with the LCUs and the barriers, and the micro-hardness of the upper and lower surfaces was measured (n=10). The hardness ratio was calculated by dividing the bottom surface hardness of the experimental groups by the irradiated surface hardness of the control groups. The data was analyzed by two-way ANOVA and Tukey''s HSD test.

Results

The micro-hardness of the composite specimens photopolymerized with the LED LCU decreased significantly in the four- and eight-layer groups of the upper surface and in the two-, four-, and eight-layer groups of the lower surface. The hardness ratio of the composite specimens was <80% in the eight-layer group. The micro-hardness of the composite specimens photopolymerized with the halogen LCU decreased significantly in the eight-layer group of the upper surface and in the two-, four-, and eight-layer groups of the lower surface. However, the hardness ratios of all the composite specimens photopolymerized with barriers were <80%.

Conclusions

The two-layer infection control barrier could be used on high-power LCUs without decreasing the surface hardness of the composite resin. However, when using an infection control barrier on the low-power LCUs, attention should be paid so as not to sacrifice the polymerization efficiency.  相似文献

Objectives

This in vitro study evaluated the effectiveness of three carbamide peroxide concentrations used for tooth bleaching treatments.

Material and Methods

Sixty bovine dental slabs (6x6x3 mm) were obtained, sequentially polished, submitted to artificial staining (baseline) and randomized into four groups (n=15), according to the bleaching agent concentration: distilled water (control), 10% (CP10), 16% (CP16) or 37% (CP37) carbamide peroxide. CP10 and CP16 were covered with 0.2 mL of the respective bleaching gels, which were applied on enamel surface for 4 h/day during two weeks. Samples of CP37 were covered with 0.2 mL of the bleaching gel for 20 min. The gel was light activated by two 40-s applications spaced by 10-min intervals. The gel was renewed and applied 3 times per clinical session. This cycle was repeated at 3 sessions with 5 days of interval between them. Tooth shade evaluations were done with a digital spectrophotometer at T0 (baseline), T1 (after 1-week of treatment) and T2 (1-week post-bleaching). Tooth shade means were statistically analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and Friedman''s tests and color parameters were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and Tukey''s test (p<0.05).

Results

At T1 and T2 evaluations, tooth shade was significantly lighter than at baseline for all treatment groups, considering the color parameters ΔL*, Δa*, Δb*, ΔE* (p<0.001) or tooth shade means (p<0.001). CP37 group showed lower shade mean change than CP10 and CP16 at T1 (p<0.01), but this difference was not statistically significant at T2 (p>0.05).

Conclusions

One week after the end of the treatment, all carbamide peroxide concentrations tested produced similar tooth color improvement.  相似文献

This in vitro study was performed to evaluate the effect of various concentrations of carbamide peroxide bleaching agents on the pulp chambers of teeth restored by a composite resin. Forty-nine human extracted anterior teeth were used. All the teeth were sectioned 3 mm apical of the cemento-enamel junction and the intracoronal tissue removed. The teeth were separated into the seven groups each containing seven teeth. Twenty-eight teeth were used as controls (groups I-IV), standardized cavities were prepared with the remaining 21 teeth (groups V, VI, VII), and restored with a hybrid composite resin (XR Herculite). Acetate buffer was placed in the pulp chamber to absorb and stabilize any peroxide that might penetrate. Group I was exposed only to distilled water. Groups II and V were applied with 10% CP (Contrast PM), groups III and VI were applied with 15% CP (Contrast PM), groups IV and VII were applied with 35% CP (Quik Start) and left for 30 min at 37 degrees C. Then, the acetate buffer solution in the pulp chamber of each tooth was removed and the chamber was then rinsed twice with 100 ml of distilled water. The contents then had leucocryctal violet and enzyme horseradish peroxidase added. The optical density of the resulting blue solution was determined spectrophotometrically, and was converted into microgram equivalents of hydrogen peroxide. A higher level of bleaching agent penetrated into the pulp chamber in the restored teeth than in the sound teeth.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: The effect of 10% carbamide peroxide on mercury release from dental amalgams was assessed in vitro by using a cold-vapor atomic absorption Mercury Analyzer System. STUDY DESIGN: Samples of 4 commercial brands of dental amalgam, Megaloy (Dentsply/Caulk, Milford, Del), Mega+ (CFPM, Aulnaye, France), Nongama 2 (Silmet, Or Yehuda, Israel), and Valiant Ph.D. (Dentsply/Caulk, Milford, Del), were treated for 48 hours with 10% carbamide peroxide and compared with samples treated with phosphate buffer. RESULTS: Amalgam specimens exposed for 48 hours to 10% carbamide peroxide showed significantly higher concentrations of mercury in solution as compared with specimens treated with phosphate buffer (P <.001). Megaloy and Valiant Ph.D. yielded significantly higher mercury concentrations in solution than Mega+ and Nongama 2 (P <.001). Mega+ yielded significantly higher mercury concentrations in solution than Nongama 2 (P <.05). No significant differences were found in mercury concentrations in solution between Megaloy and Valiant Ph.D. CONCLUSIONS: Treatment with 10% carbamide peroxide bleaching agents caused an increase in mercury release from amalgam restorations, possibly increasing exposure of patients to its adverse effects. Amalgam brands differed in the amounts of mercury release after bleaching with carbamide peroxide.  相似文献

目的观察10%抗坏血酸钠与含表面活化剂(Tween,0.2%)的10%抗坏血酸钠对经10%过氧化脲外漂白后复合树脂充填体微渗漏的影响。方法选取牙体完整健康的人离体前磨牙50颗,随机分为5组,第1组不漂白直接树脂充填,第2组用10%过氧化脲漂白后立即树脂充填,第3组漂白后将牙齿浸泡在人工唾液中3周再进行树脂充填,第4组漂白后先用10%抗坏血酸钠处理窝洞后再充填树脂,第5组漂白后先用含0.2%Tween的10%抗坏血酸钠处理窝洞后再进行树脂充填。然后,将5组样本进行2000个周期的冷热循环,2%亚甲基蓝染色24h,体视显微镜下观察剖面充填体的微渗漏情况。结果第1组微渗漏值最低,第2组微渗漏值最高,第3、4组微渗漏值显著高于第1组但与第2组无显著性差异(P>0.05);第5组渗漏值较第2组及第4组显著下降(P<0.05)。结论 10%过氧化脲外漂白致复合树脂充填体边缘微渗漏明显增加,含0.2%Tween的10%抗坏血酸钠处理窝洞可以有效减少该微渗漏的增加,延迟充填和单纯使用抗坏血酸钠均不能有效减少微渗漏。  相似文献

Objective

The purpose of this study was to investigate the polymerization temperature of a bulk filled composite resin light-activated with various light curing modes using infrared thermography according to the curing depth and approximation to the cavity wall.

Material and Methods

Composite resin (AeliteFlo, Bisco, Schaumburg, IL, USA) was inserted into a Class II cavity prepared in the Teflon blocks and was cured with a LED light curing unit (Dr''s Light, GoodDoctors Co., Seoul, Korea) using various light curing modes for 20 s. Polymerization temperature was measured with an infrared thermographic camera (Thermovision 900 SW/TE, Agema Infra-red Systems AB, Danderyd, Sweden) for 40 s at measurement spots adjacent to the cavity wall and in the middle of the cavity from the surface to a 4 mm depth. Data were analyzed according to the light curing modes with one-way ANOVA, and according to curing depth and approximation to the cavity wall with two-way ANOVA.

Results

The peak polymerization temperature of the composite resin was not affected by the light curing modes. According to the curing depth, the peak polymerization temperature at the depth of 1 mm to 3 mm was significantly higher than that at the depth of 4 mm, and on the surface. The peak polymerization temperature of the spots in the middle of the cavity was higher than that measured in spots adjacent to the cavity wall.

Conclusion

In the photopolymerization of the composite resin, the temperature was higher in the middle of the cavity compared to the outer surface or at the internal walls of the prepared cavity.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the influence of short course topical application of carbamide peroxide on proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) immunohistochemical expression in the oral tongue mucosa of rats. Twelve male Wistar rats were submitted to topical application of 10% carbamide peroxide on one side of the dorsal tongue once a week for three consecutive weeks. Only distilled water was applied on the control side. The animals were killed on days 0, 10, and 20 after the last application. The tongue was fixed in buffered formalin for 24 h and embedded in paraffin. Tissue blocks (3 microns) were subjected to the biotin-streptavidin amplified system for identification of PCNA. The percentage of epithelial-positive basal cells in each side of the tongue mucosa was calculated. The results demonstrated that topical application of 10% carbamide peroxide increases PCNA immunohistochemical expression on the basal layer of the oral mucosa epithelium of rats on day 0 after treatment. In conclusion, short-course use of carbamide peroxide induces transient epithelial cell proliferation of the oral mucosa of rats.  相似文献

Esthetics plays an important role in dentistry today. Because of an increased emphasis on beauty and health, cosmetic dentistry has been the thrust to the forefront of many practices. Many health products are used for bleaching teeth, but all side effects are not known. Tooth sensitivity and gingival irritation are the most common side effects, but they are typically mild and transient in nature. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate objectively the effect of 10% carbamide peroxide gel (Opalescence Utradent Inc, USA) on gingival health by measuring changes in Bleeding Index, Plaque Index, and Gingival Index. Eighteen subjects, 11 female and 7 male, age range 15-30 years (mean 24 years), were selected for the study as a convenient sample. Their teeth had either fluorosis, dental stains, smoking, or tetracycline staining. The Opalescence system was used as office monitored, at-home bleaching for three weeks. There was a statistically significant reduction in bleeding on probing (1% - 37%, p < or = 0.003), Plaque Index (4% - 50%, p < or = 0.000), and Gingival Index (2.5% - 34%, p < or = 0.002). Only two subjects reported tooth hypersensitivity, and none of the subjects complained about gingival irritation. There was a positive change in tooth color as far as staining was concerned. Further research including randomized controlled, double blind clinical trials is needed to confirm these findings and to examine other factors related to bleaching of teeth.  相似文献

Objective

This study determined the effects of various surface treatment modalities on the bond strength of composite resins to glass-ionomer cements.

Material and Methods

Conventional (KetacTM Molar Quick ApplicapTM) or resin-modified (PhotacTM Fil Quick AplicapTM) glass-ionomer cements were prepared. Two-step etch-rinse & bond adhesive (AdperTM Single Bond 2) or single-step self-etching adhesive (AdperTM PromptTM L-PopTM) was applied to the set cements. In the etch-rinse & bond group, the sample surfaces were pre-treated as follows: (1) no etching, (2) 15 s of etching with 35% phosphoric acid, (3) 30 s of etching, and (4) 60 s of etching. Following the placement of the composite resin (FiltekTM Z250), the bond strength was measured in a universal testing machine and the data obtained were analyzed with the two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by the Tukey''s HSD post hoc analysis (p=0.05). Then, the fractured surfaces were examined by scanning electron microscopy.

Results

The bond strength of the composite resin to the conventional glass-ionomer cement was significantly lower than that to the resin-modified glass-ionomer cement (p<0.001). No significant differences were determined between the self-etching and etch-rinse & bond adhesives at any etching time (p>0.05). However, a greater bond strength was obtained with 30 s of phosphoric acid application.

Conclusions

The resin-modified glass-ionomer cement improved the bond strength of the composite resin to the glass-ionomer cement. Both etch-rinse & bond and self-etching adhesives may be used effectively in the lamination of glass-ionomer cements. However, an etching time of at least 30 s appears to be optimal.  相似文献

Direct composite resin restorations have become a viable alternative for patients that require anterior restorative procedures to be integrated to the other teeth that compose the smile, especially for presenting satisfactory esthetic results and minimum wear of the dental structure. Technological evolution along with a better understanding of the behavior of dental tissues to light incidence has allowed the development of new composite resins with better mechanical and optical properties, making possible a more artistic approach for anterior restorations. The combination of the increasing demand of patients for esthetics and the capacity to preserve the dental structure resulted in the development of different incremental techniques for restoring fractured anterior teeth in a natural way. In order to achieve esthetic excellence, dentists should understand and apply artistic and scientific principles when choosing color of restorative materials, as well as during the insertion of the composite resin. The discussion of these strategies will be divided into two papers. In this paper, the criteria for color and material selection to obtain a natural reproduction of the lost dental structures and an imperceptible restoration will be addressed.  相似文献

Objectives:

This study evaluated the effect of sports and energy drinks on the surface hardness of different composite resin restorative materials over a 1-month period.

Material and Methods:

A total of 168 specimens: Compoglass F, Filtek Z250, Filtek Supreme, and Premise were prepared using a customized cylindrical metal mould and they were divided into six groups (N=42; n=7 per group). For the control groups, the specimens were stored in distilled water for 24 hours at 37º C and the water was renewed daily. For the experimental groups, the specimens were immersed in 5 mL of one of the following test solutions: Powerade, Gatorade, X-IR, Burn, and Red Bull, for two minutes daily for up to a 1-month test period and all the solutions were refreshed daily. Surface hardness was measured using a Vickers hardness measuring instrument at baseline, after 1-week and 1-month. Data were statistically analyzed using Multivariate repeated measure ANOVA and Bonferroni''s multiple comparison tests (α=0.05).

Results:

Multivariate repeated measures ANOVA revealed that there were statistically significant differences in the hardness of the restorative materials in different immersion times (p<0.001) in different solutions (p<0.001). The effect of different solutions on the surface hardness values of the restorative materials was tested using Bonferroni''s multiple comparison tests, and it was observed that specimens stored in distilled water demonstrated statistically significant lower mean surface hardness reductions when compared to the specimens immersed in sports and energy drinks after a 1-month evaluation period (p<0.001). The compomer was the most affected by an acidic environment, whereas the composite resin materials were the least affected materials.

Conclusions:

The effect of sports and energy drinks on the surface hardness of a restorative material depends on the duration of exposure time, and the composition of the material.  相似文献
