The aim of this study is to compare the surface tension of four common endodontic irrigants: Moltendo EDTA 17%, Cetrexidin, Smear Clear, Sodium hypochlorite 5.25%, with the surface tension of MTAD and Tetraclean. Freshly produced MilliQ water was used as a reference. All measurements were performed following the Wilhelmy plate technique, using a Cahn DCA-322 Dynamic Contact Angle Analyzer at the temperature of 22 degrees C. MilliQ water, sodium hypochlorite 5.25%, and EDTA 17% had the highest surface tension, whereas those of Cetrexedin and Tetraclean has shown the lowest surface tension value. Both new irrigants, MTAD and Tetraclean, are capable of removing the smear layer. Thanks to their low surface tension, increasing the intimate contact of irrigant solutions with the dentinal walls, they may permit deeper penetration.  相似文献

This study aimed to compare the effects of different irrigants on root dentine microhardness, erosion and smear layer removal. A total of 72 root dentine slices were divided into six groups, according to the final irrigants used: Group 1: 17% ethylenediamine tetra‐acetic acid (EDTA) + 2.5% NaOCl, Group 2: 7% maleic acid (MA) + 2.5% sodium hypochloride (NaOCl), Group 3: 1.3% NaOCl + mixture of tetracycline, acid and detergent (MTAD), Group 4: Smear Clear + 2.5% NaOCl, Group 5: 5% NaOCl, Group 6: saline. Vickers microhardness values were measured before and after treatment. In total, 42 root‐halves were prepared for scanning electron microscope to evaluate the amount of smear and erosion in the coronal, middle and apical thirds. Data were analysed using two‐way anova , Duncan and two‐proportion z‐tests. Maleic acid showed the greatest reduction in dentine microhardness (P < 0.05), followed by EDTA and MTAD. EDTA, maleic acid, MTAD and Smear Clear removed smear layer efficiently in the coronal and middle thirds of root canal. However, in the apical region, maleic acid showed more efficient removal of the smear layer than the other irrigants (P < 0.05).  相似文献

Necrotic bovine pulp and dentin were used in this study as model tissues to represent the organic and inorganic components of the smear layer present in instrumented root canals. The capabilities of endodontic irrigants to dissolve pulverized forms of these tissues were compared. Lyophilized tissue samples were mixed for 2 h at 37 degrees C with MTAD, three concentrations of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), 17% EDTA, or isotonic saline. Undissolved tissues were rinsed with water and lyophilized. The change in tissue weight after exposure to an irrigant was measured to quantify solubilization. The results showed that various concentrations of NaOCl removed organic components of pulp and dentin effectively. As pulp solubilizers 5.25% and 2.60% NaOCl were equal (>90%), and 5.25% NaOCl was capable of dissolving virtually the entire organic component of dentin. EDTA was capable of solubilizing inorganic material in dentin and organic material in pulp and likely also in dentin. It dissolved >70% of the dentin and >51% of the pulp. The solubilizing effects of MTAD on pulp and dentin were somewhat similar to those of EDTA. The major difference between the actions of these solutions was a high binding affinity of doxycycline present in MTAD for the dentin.  相似文献

This study examined the effects of commonly employed endodontic irrigants on Epiphany-dentin bond strengths. Smear layers were created on dentin discs obtained from human third molars. Five groups of 10 discs each were treated with one of the following: (a) water; (b) 2% chlorhexidine; (c) 6% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl); (d) 6% NaOCl followed by EDTA and water; or (e) 1.3% NaOCl followed by MTAD. The treated surfaces were air-dried and treated with Epiphany primer. Hollow steel tubes were placed on the dentin surfaces, and Epiphany sealer was applied to dentin inside the tubes. Samples were tested for shear bond strengths after 7 days of storage. Representative specimens were examined using scanning electron microscopy. One-way ANOVA and Tukey's test revealed significant differences among the groups (p<0.05). Using water or chlorhexidine as an irrigant resulted in significantly lower bond strengths when compared with NaOCl, NaOCl/EDTA, or NaOCl/MTAD. Neither EDTA nor MTAD significantly improved Epiphany-dentin bond strengths when compared with NaOCl used alone.  相似文献

The major objective in endodontic therapy is to achieve complete chemomechanical debridement of the entire root canal system. This can be accomplished with biomechanical instrumentation and chemical irrigation. Various endodontic irrigants, such as sodium hypochlorite, chlorhexidene, and iodine potassium iodide, are available, each having its own advantages with some limitations. MTAD, a new endodontic irrigant, has been introduced to fulfill these limitations. MTAD is a mixture of doxycycline, citric acid, and a detergent (Tween 80). Since its introduction, it is a material that has been researched extensively for its properties. This article presents a review on the numerous properties of MTAD, such as antimicrobial activity, smear layer- and pulp-dissolving capability, effect on dentin and adhesion, and biocompatibility.  相似文献

Objective

The purpose of the study was to examine the level of erosion on root canal wall dentin caused by immersion in different irrigant solutions in alternative sequences.

Methods

Dentin specimens from teeth with one root canal were instrumented and randomly divided into five groups. Each group was subjected to 17% EDTA, 17% ethyleneglycoltetraacetic acid (EGTA), or 10% citric acid (CA) and 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) varying the time of irrigant exposure and the order of the irrigants. The specimens were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and randomized digital images of the dentin surface were taken. The area of tubule openings was measured by a semiautomatic method.

Results

No erosion was detected when demineralizing agents were used as a final rinse after NaOCl. However, the erosion of peritubular and intertubular dentin was detected when EDTA, EGTA, or CA were used first followed by 5.25% NaOCl (P < .05), and an increase over 100% in the area of dentin tubule openings was measured (P < .01).

Conclusions

NaOCl used as a final irrigant solution after demineralization agents causes marked erosion of root canal dentin.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the residual antibacterial activity of Tetraclean, MTAD and 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) in bovine root dentin in vitro. One hundred and ten dentin tubes prepared from bovine incisor teeth were infected in vitro for 14 days with Enterococcus faecalis. Thereafter, the specimens were divided into five groups as follows: Tetraclean; MTAD; 5.25% NaOCl; infected dentin tubes (positive control); and sterile dentin tubes (negative control). Dentin chips were collected using round burs into tryptic soy broth and after culturing, the number of colony‐forming units (CFU) was counted. The number of CFU in all experimental groups was minimum after treatment, and the results obtained were significantly different from each other at any time period (P < 0.05). The Tetraclean group showed the most effective antibacterial action at all five experimental periods (P < 0.05). MTAD group showed the least antibacterial activity after treatment. However, at days 7, 14, 21 and 28 MTAD showed more effective antibacterial action than NaOCl. In each group, the number of CFU increased significantly by time‐lapse (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the residual antibacterial activity of Tetraclean was significantly greater than MTAD and 5.25% NaOCl.  相似文献

IntroductionEndodontic chelators may extrude to apical tissues during instrumentation activating cellular events on periapical tissues. This study assessed in vitro the expression of nitric oxide (NO) concentrations by murine peritoneal macrophages after contact with MTAD (Dentsply/Tulsa, Tulsa, OK), Tetraclean (Ogna Laboratori Farmaceutici, Muggio, Italy), Smear Clear (Sybron Endo, Orange, CA), and EDTA (Biodinâmica, Ibiporã, PR, Brazil).MethodsMacrophage cells were obtained from Swiss mice after peritoneal lavage. Chelators were diluted in distilled water obtaining 12 concentrations, and MTT assay identified the concentrations, per group, displaying the highest cell viability (analysis of variance, p < 0.01). Selected concentrations were tested for NO expression using Griess reaction. Culture medium and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) were used as controls.ResultsAnalysis of variance and Tukey tests showed that all chelators displayed elevated NO concentrations compared with the negative control (p < 0.01). MTAD induced the lowest NO expression, followed by Tetraclean, EDTA, and Smear Clear. No difference was observed between MTAD and Tetraclean (p > 0.01), Tetraclean and EDTA (p > 0.01), and EDTA and Smear Clear (p > 0.01). LPS ranked similar to both EDTA and Smear Clear (p > 0.01).ConclusionThe tested endodontic chelators displayed severe proinflammatory effects on murine-cultured macrophages. Citric acid–based solutions induce lower NO release than EDTA-based irrigants.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of MTAD as the final irrigant to remove the smear layer, compared with that of 17% EDTA, both following root canal irrigation with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). Fifty‐five extracted maxillary and mandibular single‐rooted human teeth were prepared by a crown‐down technique using rotary 0.04 and 0.06 taper nickel‐titanium files. 5.25% sodium hypochlorite was used as the intracanal irrigant. The canals were then treated with 5 mL of one of the following solutions as final rinse: 5.25% sodium hypochlorite, 17% EDTA or MTAD. The presence or absence of smear layer in the coronal, middle and apical portion of each canal was examined with a scanning electron microscope. The results showed that MTAD is an effective final rinse solution for removing the smear layer in canals irrigated with sodium hypochlorite. When 17% EDTA was used as a final rinse, the smear layer was removed from the middle and coronal thirds of canal preparations, but it was less effective in the apical third of the canals.  相似文献

目的 初步评价过氧乙酸消毒剂(Peracetic Acid,PAA)对牙胶尖的消毒效果。方法 将800根牙胶尖随机分成5组,分别浸入金黄色葡萄球菌、大肠杆菌、粪肠球菌、枯草杆菌黑色变种芽孢以及白色念珠菌制成的菌悬液进行体外感染,每组160根牙胶尖再分成4小组,分别用0.1%、0.2%、0.5%过氧乙酸溶液和5.25%次氯酸钠溶液(Sodium Hypochlorite,NaOCl)浸泡消毒,在消毒后15s、30s、1min、2min时分别取出10根牙胶尖进行微生物培养,根据培养后有无微生物生长评定消毒效果。结果 0.1%或0.2%过氧乙酸浸泡消毒2min后无法杀灭枯草杆菌黑色变种芽孢;0.5%过氧乙酸或5.25%次氯酸钠浸泡消毒2min后,牙胶尖上5种微生物都被杀灭;对枯草杆菌黑色变种芽孢污染的牙胶尖消毒15s时,0.5%过氧乙酸的消毒效果明显好于5.25%次氯酸钠,但在其它情况下两者的消毒效果无统计学差异。结论 用0.5%过氧乙酸浸泡消毒2min后,能有效杀灭牙胶尖表面微生物,可考虑用于临床上牙胶尖的快速消毒。  相似文献

Abstract

Objective. This study analyzed the antimicrobial effect of five irrigants formulated from different parts of the tree Azadirachta indica (Neem) and compared with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite and 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate through an agar diffusion test. Materials and methods. A clinical isolate of Candida albicans was innoculated on Sabourad Dextrose Agar and Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29212) on Sheep Blood Agar. Wells with 6 mm diameter were created in agar and 100 μL aliquiots of each irrigant were introduced to five different wells. After incubation, the largest uniform diameter of the inhibition zone was recorded. Results. The leaf extract of the tree and a mixture of the seed-bark powder dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide were active against both organisms. The other neem-based irrigants, a leaf powder dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide, aqueous bark decoction and neem oil, did not possess any antimicrobial efficacy. Sodium hypochlorite completely inhibited growth of C. albicans and the leaf extract had larger inhibition zones than chlorhexidine (p = 0.011) or the seed-bark irrigant (p = 0.008). Against E. faecalis, inhibition zones with chlorhexidine were the largest and differed significantly from sodium hypochlorite (p = 0.039), leaf extract (p = 0.008) and seed-bark irrigant (p = 0.011). Conclusions. Two neem irrigants displayed antimicrobial properties. The efficacy of the standard endodontic irrigants varied depending on the organisms tested. Clinical relevance: Neem-based endodontic irrigants may be formulated for clinical application.  相似文献

This study compared the antimicrobial effect of MTAD, two of its components, doxycycline and citric acid, and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) in two in vitro models on Enterococcus faecalis. In the bovine tooth model, the lumens of 30 bovine dentin discs were infected with E. faecalis for 2 weeks before treating with either one of the experimental irrigants or saline. Bacteria in the shavings were collected with two sizes of burs and enumerated after overnight culturing. Zones of inhibition were recorded in the agar diffusion model for each irrigant. In the tooth model, NaOCl and doxycycline were more effective than control in killing E. faecalis at the shallow bur depth, but at the deeper bur depth only NaOCl was superior. In the agar diffusion model, NaOCl produced less inhibition than MTAD or doxycycline.  相似文献

Various organic acids, ultrasonic instruments, and lasers have been used to remove the smear layer from the surface of instrumented root canals. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a mixture of a tetracycline isomer, an acid, and a detergent (MTAD) as a final rinse on the surface of instrumented root canals. Forty-eight extracted maxillary and mandibular single-rooted human teeth were prepared by using a combination of passive step-back and rotary 0.04 taper nickel-titanium files. Sterile distilled water or 5.25% sodium hypochlorite was used as intracanal irrigant. The canals were then treated with 5 ml of one of the following solutions as a final rinse: sterile distilled water, 5.25% sodium hypochlorite, 17% EDTA, or a new solution, MTAD. The presence or absence of smear layer and the amount of erosion on the surface of the root canal walls at the coronal, middle, and apical portion of each canal were examined under a scanning electron microscope. The results show that MTAD is an effective solution for the removal of the smear layer and does not significantly change the structure of the dentinal tubules when canals are irrigated with sodium hypochlorite and followed with a final rinse of MTAD.  相似文献

The effect of different post space irrigants on smear layer removal and dentin bond strength was evaluated. Sixty-six extracted sound maxillary central incisors were endodontically treated. After post space preparation, the teeth were assigned to three groups of 22 teeth each. The teeth of these three groups were irrigated for 1 min with 17% ethylenediaminetetracetic acid (EDTA) (group 1), 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) (group 2), or 0.9% sodium chloride (NaCl) (group 3). In each group, eight specimens were split longitudinally for smear layer evaluation, and the other fourteen specimens were filled with a self-etching adhesive system (Panavia F). Four of 14 specimens of each group were prepared for evaluation of the resin–dentin interdiffusion zone (RDIZ) and resin tags, and the other 10 specimens were serially sectioned for push-out test analysis. Smear layer removal and bond strength were affected by different post space irrigants. EDTA removed the smear layer extremely effectively and, as a result, improved the bond strength at each region (apical, middle, and coronal) of the roots. Resin tag formation and the RDIZ were also affected by different irrigants and in accordance with bond strength. Therefore, removal of the smear layer use a self-etching luting system plays an important role in bonding effectiveness.  相似文献

Disinfection of the root canal system is one of the primary aims of root canal treatment. This can be achieved through the use of various antimicrobial agents in the form of irrigants and medicaments. The antimicrobial substantivity of 2% chlorhexidine gluconate, 1% povidone iodine, 2.5% hydrogen peroxide followed by 2% sodium hypochlorite, and 2% sodium hypochlorite alone as irrigants was assessed in instrumented root canals. 2% chlorhexidine showed antimicrobial substantivity lasting up to 72 h, followed by 1% povidone iodine, and 2% sodium hypochlorite. Thus 2% chlorhexidine should be used as a final rinse irrigant in endodontic treatment protocols.  相似文献

根管预备时,采用单纯机械预备方法无法完全去除根管内感染,化学冲洗是消除根管内感染不可或缺的步骤。理想的根管冲洗剂应具备彻底清除玷污层、润滑根管、有效杀菌、对组织无毒性且不损伤牙齿结构的特点。现有的根管冲洗剂尚不能同时满足上述所有要求。QMix是由乙二胺四乙酸(EDTA)、氯己定(CHX)和表面活性剂混合组成的根管冲洗剂。QMix能够有效去除玷污层,杀菌性强且有持续的抗菌作用,细胞毒性小且生物相容性好,对牙本质的着色浅,对牙本质微硬度的影响小。此外,QMix还可以提高根管封闭剂的润湿性且不影响其粘接性能。本文比较QMix与其他常用的根管冲洗剂(如次氯酸钠、CHX、EDTA、SmearClear、MTAD等)在去除玷污层、对牙本质作用、对根管封闭剂的影响、细胞毒性、抗菌作用等方面的作用特点,将目前对QMix的研究成果作一综述。  相似文献

Introduction

The present study was designed to develop a standardized model for quantification of the effectiveness of dentin disinfection by different antibacterial solutions including a new root canal irrigant, Qmix.

Methods

Dentinal tubules from the root canal side in semicylindrical dentin specimens were infected with Enterococcus faecalis by centrifugation of the bacterial suspension into the tubules. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to verify the presence of bacteria in dentin. The outer side of dentin pieces was closed, and the specimens were subjected to 1-minute and 3-minute exposure to sterile water, 1%, 2%, 6% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), 2% chlorhexidine (CHX), and Qmix. Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and viability staining were used to quantitatively analyze the proportions of dead and live bacteria inside dentin.

Results

A heavy invasion by E. faecalis was detected by both SEM and CLSM throughout the dentinal tubules. The amount of dead cells in dentin increased with increasing NaOCl concentration and time of exposure (P < .05). Qmix was equally effective in killing bacteria in dentin as 6% NaOCl; more than 40% and 60% of the bacteria were killed by both at 1 minute and 3 minutes, respectively. One percent and 2% NaOCl and 2% CHX killed 20%–30% and 30%–40% bacteria after 1 and 3 minutes of exposure, respectively, with no statistically significant differences among the 3 agents (P > .05). In the control group, which was treated with sterile water, only 4%–6% of the bacteria were dead.

Conclusions

Centrifugation helped to create a heavy, evenly distributed infection deep into the dentinal tubules. The new model made it possible to compare the effectiveness of several disinfecting solutions in killing bacteria inside dentin by a noninvasive CLSM method.  相似文献

IntroductionThis study compared the efficacy of BioPure MTAD (Dentsply Tulsa, Tulsa, OK), 17% EDTA, and 42% citric acid in endodontic smear layer removal and degree of erosion in the apical third of endodontic canals.MethodsNinety-six extracted single-rooted human teeth were randomized into four groups (n = 24) and instrumented using System GT nickel-titanium rotary instruments (Dentsply Tulsa, Tulsa, OK). Each canal was irrigated with one of the following solutions: BioPure MTAD, 17% EDTA, 42% citric acid, or 5.25% NaOCl (control). Next, all specimens were irrigated with 5.25% NaOCl.ResultsEvaluation by scanning electron microscopy showed no significant differences among test irrigants in removing the smear layer. However, the efficacy of BioPure MTAD and 17% EDTA in removing the smear layer was significantly greater than 5.25% NaOCl (control). The erosive effects of irrigating solutions could not be evaluated.ConclusionsIn conclusion, the protocols used in this study were not sufficient to completely remove the smear layer in the apical third of prepared root canals.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to compare the antimicrobial effect of MTAD (a mixture of a tetracycline isomer, an acid, and a detergent) with that of NaOCl with and without EDTA. Eighty-five extracted human teeth were contaminated with Enterococcus faecalis for 4 weeks. After biomechanical instrumentation using 1.3% or 5.25% NaOCl as root canal irrigant, the root canal and the external surface of each tooth were exposed to a 5-min application of MTAD, 1.3% NaOCl, 5.25% NaOCl or a 1-min application of EDTA followed by irrigation with 5 ml of 1.3% NaOCl or 5.25% NaOCl. Teeth or dentin shavings were cultured to determine presence or absence of the test bacteria. Fisher's exact test showed that the combination of 1.3% NaOCl as a root canal irrigant and MTAD as a final rinse was significantly more effective against E. faecalis than the other regimens. The chi2 test showed no difference between the other regimens.  相似文献

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of five calcium hydroxide removal methods on the bond strength of Epiphany SE sealer after canal irrigation with NaOCl+EDTA or NaOCl+MTAD. Materials and methods: The 120 roots were instrumented by using the ProTaper rotary system under irrigation with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite and randomly divided into two major groups according to the final irrigation: 1.3% NaOCl + MTAD and 5% NaOCl + 17% EDTA. For controls, 10 roots from each of the final irrigations with NaOCl + MTAD and NaOCl + EDTA (20 roots) were not filled with Ca(OH)2. The intra-canal paste, Ca(OH)2 was applied to each of the 100 remaining roots and stored at 37°C for 7 days. Each group was sub-divided into five sub-groups (n = 10) according to the removal technique for the intra-canal dressing: Group-1: recapitulation with size 30 K file + 3 ml of saline solution, Group-2: recapitulation with size 30 K file + 3 ml of 5% NaOCl, Group-3: using 5% NaOCl + 17% EDTA, Group-4: using 5%NaOCl + 15% citric acid, and Group-5: using 1.3% NaOCl + 5 ml MTAD. The root canals were filled with Resilon and Epiphany SE sealer. The bond strength was measured. Results: The mean bond strength of Epiphany SE to root dentine irrigated with NaOCl + MTAD was lower than that of NaOCl + EDTA. The highest bond strengths were 3.31 ± 0.057 and 2.60 ± 0.054 in the NaOCl + citric acid group when Ca(OH)2 was applied to roots treated with NaOCl + EDTA and NaOCl + MTAD, respectively (p < 0.05). Conclusion: For root canals treated with NaOCl + EDTA or NaOCl + MTAD, the use of NaOCl + chelating agent for Ca(OH)2 removal does not adversely affect the bond strength of Epiphany SE to dentin.  相似文献
