Associate degree nursing education remains a relevant choice for students entering the nursing profession. Since its introduction fifty years ago, associate degree nursing education has had a significant impact on the registered nursing population in the United States. The climate for a new type of nurse was created by a nursing shortage, the growth of community and junior colleges, and government and consumer interest. Evaluation of initial programs revealed that desired outcomes were met. A proliferation of associate degree nursing programs followed with there currently being more than 800 associate degree nursing programs in the nation. Controversy regarding associate degree nursing as an entry level for registered nurses has been evolving since its inception. Issues related to technical nursing versus professional nursing titles and roles, and differentiated roles have been divisive for the nursing profession. Current demographics reveal that associate degree nursing continues to make a positive impact on the registered nurse population, providing almost 60% of entry level graduates each year, and attracting a greater percentage of minority groups and males. Associate degree nursing representatives should be involved in defining the future of nursing. Societal needs for health care and individual rights for access to education should be considered. Collaborative efforts among the nursing organizations are essential to promoting recruitment and retention efforts.  相似文献

Nursing education in China: past, present and future Aim To describe the development of nursing education in the past, present and future in China. Background The development of nursing education in China is closely tied with the country’s wider context, including the social, political and economic environment. Evaluation The source of information includes published materials accessible to the public and the authors’ knowledge as content experts of the nursing situation in China. Key issues Nursing in China is developing rapidly particularly in the last decade in quantity and quality terms. The education development of nursing is in line with the service development which aims at client-centred care adopting a holistic approach caring for clients at the preventive, curative and rehabilitative levels. Conclusions Nursing education in China, both at the pre-registration and post-registration level, plays a key role in building a strong team of nurses to fulfil the health mission of the country. Implications for nursing management Managers in nursing education need to continuously revise the curriculum to produce nurses who meet societal needs at present and for the future. At the same time, nurse managers in the service need to make best use of these nursing talents according to the nurses’ competence and educational levels.  相似文献

the last 7 years, more than 300,000 automated external defibrillators(AEDs) installed nationwide in Japan, and at least one AED has placed in 38,634 schools. Therefore, only 0.7% of bystanders used the AEDs(By-AED) in all OHCA cases with th 48 % of ROSC. In recent years, elementary and junior high school student has interested in AED results in each school has at least one AED. Therefore, introduction of CPR education starting from elementary school was extremely important. CPR education is not yet ubiquitous, and the promotion of AEDs and CPR education on a nationwide scale remains an urgent issue. Therefore, to solve this problem, we investigated the status of CPR education in schools teachers. We conducted surveys targeting for school teachers in Tokyo. Question; "What age do you think suitable for CPR training ?" Most of teachers answered"Suitable age for start CPR education from the upper grades of elementary school to a junior high school". Reason is, physically, continuous high quality chest compression could performed age of junior high. However, 'Importance of life' could teach from lower grade of elementary school because of child have a good long time memory. In this reason, CPR education is extremely important. Also teachers need 'more time', 'curriculum for CPR education and 'good CPR instruction tool for teaching'. The solution to teacher's request, we prepared follows. A 90 minutes hands only CPR curriculum should be introduced to elementary school CPR for basic CPR education. CPR +AED education should be started in lower grade of elementary school with AED trainer. In conclusion, school CPR programs are extremely important for awareness both in skill and knowledge of CPR among the entire school. Future research is warranted to improve the resuscitation rate by school CPR program.  相似文献

Nursing education in Iran has undergone significant change since its genesis with foreign missionaries over one hundred years ago. More recently, following the 1979 Islamic revolution, nurse education has followed the direction taken by most other countries in moving from an apprenticeship model of training to an academic model. A series of transformative changes to nursing education specifically-and across the higher education system generally-has resulted in nurses now being able to undertake study across all university-based programs up to and including doctoral level. Contemporary nursing students have access to full-text professional journals through the internet, and they may pursue their doctoral studies in other countries. Although these improvements in nursing education in Iran are to be applauded, much more needs to be accomplished to ensure that highly competent nurse practitioners continue to be produced in this country. This article presents an historical overview of the development of nursing education in Iran, within its economic and sociopolitical contexts. Recommendations based upon lessons learned from historical and contemporary realities are presented in order to advance nursing education in this part of world.  相似文献
