Torsional behavior and analysis of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams is investigated in this paper. The purpose of this study is twofold; to examine the torsion strength models for SFRC beams available in the literature and to address properly verified design formulations for SFRC beams under torsion. A total of 210 SFRC beams tested under torsion from 16 different experimental investigations around the world are compiled. The few strength models available from the literature are adapted herein and used to calculate the torsional strength of the beams. The predicted strength is compared with the experimental values measured by the performed torsional tests and these comparisons showed a room for improvement. First, a proposed model is based on optimizing the constants of the existing formulations using multi-linear regression. Further, a second model is proposed, which is based on modifying the American Concrete Institute (ACI) design code for reinforced concrete (RC) members to include the effect of steel fibers on the torsional capacity of SFRC beams. Applications of the proposed models showed better compliance and consistency with the experimental results compared to the available design models providing safe and verified predictions. Further, the second model implements the ACI code for RC using a simple and easy-to-apply formulation.  相似文献

The shear transfer mechanism of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams without stirrups is still not well understood. This is demonstrated herein by examining the accuracy of typical empirical formulas for 488 SFRC beam test records compiled from the literature. To steer clear of these cognitive limitations, this study turned to artificial intelligence (AI) models. A gray relational analysis (GRA) was first conducted to evaluate the importance of different parameters for the problem at hand. The outcomes indicate that the shear capacity depends heavily on the material properties of concrete, the amount of longitudinal reinforcement, the attributes of steel fibers, and the geometrical and loading characteristics of SFRC beams. After this, AI models, including back-propagation artificial neural network, random forest and multi-gene genetic programming, were developed to capture the shear strength of SFRC beams without stirrups. The findings unequivocally show that the AI models predict the shear strength more accurately than do the empirical formulas. A parametric analysis was performed using the established AI model to investigate the effects of the main influential factors (determined by GRA) on the shear capacity. Overall, this paper provides an accurate, instantaneous and meaningful approach for evaluating the shear capacity of SFRC beams containing no stirrups.  相似文献

Structural members made of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) have been attractive to engineers and researchers due to their superior mechanical properties and durability. However, existing studies were focused on the behavior of UHPC members reinforced with micro straight steel fibers at a volume fraction between 1 and 3%. There is a lack of studies on the influence of different types and amounts of fibers on the shear behavior of UHPC structural members. The objective of the study was to experimentally investigate the shear behavior of UHPC beams with macro hooked-end steel (MHS) fibers and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers, which are two of the most used fibers for high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites. The shear behavior of ten large-scale non-prestressed UHPC beams was studied. The experimental parameters included the shear span-to-effective depth ratio, the fiber volume fraction, and the type of fibers. It was found that both MHS fibers and PVA fibers were effective in enhancing the shear performance of the UHPC beams whether the shear transfer mechanism was governed by arch action or beam action. Moreover, the measurement results of the average crack spacing imply the distinct difference in the fiber bridging effects of the MHS fibers and PVA fibers in the UHPC beams.  相似文献

In this paper, the compressive behavior of fiber-reinforced concrete with end-hooked steel fibers has been investigated through a uniaxial compression test in which the variables were concrete compressive strength, fiber volumetric ratio, and fiber aspect ratio (length to diameter). In order to minimize the effect of specimen size on fiber distribution, 48 cylinder specimens 150 mm in diameter and 300 mm in height were prepared and then subjected to uniaxial compression. From the test results, it was shown that steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) specimens exhibited ductile behavior after reaching their compressive strength. It was also shown that the strain at the compressive strength generally increased along with an increase in the fiber volumetric ratio and fiber aspect ratio, while the elastic modulus decreased. With consideration for the effect of steel fibers, a model for the stress–strain relationship of SFRC under compression is proposed here. Simple formulae to predict the strain at the compressive strength and the elastic modulus of SFRC were developed as well. The proposed model and formulae will be useful for realistic predictions of the structural behavior of SFRC members or structures.  相似文献

In this study, an artificial intelligence tool called gene expression programming (GEP) has been successfully applied to develop an empirical model that can predict the shear strength of steel fiber reinforced concrete beams. The proposed genetic model incorporates all the influencing parameters such as the geometric properties of the beam, the concrete compressive strength, the shear span-to-depth ratio, and the mechanical and material properties of steel fiber. Existing empirical models ignore the tensile strength of steel fibers, which exercise a strong influence on the crack propagation of concrete matrix, thereby affecting the beam shear strength. To overcome this limitation, an improved and robust empirical model is proposed herein that incorporates the fiber tensile strength along with the other influencing factors. For this purpose, an extensive experimental database subjected to four-point loading is constructed comprising results of 488 tests drawn from the literature. The data are divided based on different shapes (hooked or straight fiber) and the tensile strength of steel fiber. The empirical model is developed using this experimental database and statistically compared with previously established empirical equations. This comparison indicates that the proposed model shows significant improvement in predicting the shear strength of steel fiber reinforced concrete beams, thus substantiating the important role of fiber tensile strength.  相似文献

To determine the validity of steel fiber reinforced expanded-shale lightweight concrete (SFRELC) applied in structures, the shear behavior of SFRELC structural components needs to be understood. In this paper, four-point bending tests were carried out on reinforced SFRELC beams with stirrups and a varying volume fraction of steel fiber from 0.4% to 1.6%. The shear cracking force, shear crack width and distribution pattern, mid-span deflection, and failure modes of test beams were recorded. Results indicate that the shear failure modes of reinforced SFRELC beams with stirrups were modified from brittle to ductile and could be transferred to the flexure mode with the increasing volume fraction of steel fiber. The coupling of steel fibers with stirrups contributed to the shear cracking force and the shear capacity provided by the SFRELC, and it improved the distribution of shear cracks. At the limit loading level of beams in building structures at serviceability, the maximum width of shear cracks could be controlled within 0.3 mm and 0.2 mm with the volume fraction of steel fiber increased from 0.4% to 0.8%. Finally, the formulas are proposed for the prediction of shear-cracking force, shear crack width, and shear capacity of reinforced SFRELC beams with stirrups.  相似文献

Perfobond rib (PBL) shear connectors, made up of the perforated steel plates with the penetrating rebars passing through the holes, are extensively adopted in steel-concrete composite structures for their excellent performance. The adequate understanding of mechanical properties for PBL connectors is of great significance for their reasonable design. In this study, a push out experiment, including 12 specimens with the parameters of concrete strength, diameter of penetrating rebars and the number of holes on perforated steel plate, was performed to explore the mechanical behavior of PBL connectors with steel fiber high strength concrete (SFHSC). The experimental results showed that the shear capacity of the PBL connectors increased with the increase in concrete strength, diameter of the penetrating rebars and the number of holes. Furthermore, a general prediction formula for the shear capacity of PBL connectors was developed, which considers the shear contribution of concrete dowels, concrete end-bearing, interfacial bonding between the perforated steel plates and concrete and the penetrating rebars as well as the enhancement effect of steel fibers. The prediction results of the equation are in good agreement with the experimental data and could provide a reference for the design of PBL connectors.  相似文献

The greatest weakness of concrete as a construction material is its brittleness and low fracture energy absorption capacity until failure occurs. In order to improve concrete strength and durability, silica fume SF is introduced into the mixture, which at the same time leads to an increase in the brittleness of concrete. To improve the ductility and toughness of concrete, short steel fibers have been incorporated into concrete. Steel fibers and silica fume are jointly preferred for concrete design in order to obtain concrete with high strength and ductility. It is well-known that silica fume content and fiber properties, such as aspect ratio and volume ratio, directly affect the properties of SFRCs. The mixture design of steel-fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) with SF addition is a very important issue in terms of economy and performance. In this study, an experimental design was used to study the toughness and splitting tensile strength of SFRC with the response surface method (RSM). The models established by the RSM were used to optimize the design of SFRC in terms of the usage of optimal silica fume content, and optimal steel fiber volume and aspect ratio. Optimum silica fume content and fiber volume ratio values were determined using the D-optimal design method so that the steel fiber volume ratio was at the minimum and the bending toughness and splitting tensile strength were at the maximum. The amount of silica fume used as a cement replacement, aspect ratio, and volume fraction of steel fiber were chosen as independent variables in the experiment. Experimentally obtained mechanical properties of SFRC such as compression, bending, splitting, modulus of elasticity, toughness, and the toughness index were the dependent variables. A good correlation was observed between the dependent and independent variables included in the model. As a result of the optimization, optimum steel fiber volume was determined as 0.70% and silica fume content was determined as 15% for both aspect ratios.  相似文献

Steel fibers are widely used because they can effectively improve the tensile, compressive and flexural properties of concrete structures. The selection of steel fiber dosage and aspect ratio at high temperature has an important impact on the flexural toughness of concrete components post-fire. In this paper, discussions are made on the simulated fire test in compliance with the ISO 834 standard to study the steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) components post-fire. The research reveals the influence of two commonly used steel fiber aspect ratios (50, 70) and steel fiber dosages (30 kg/m3, 40 kg/m3, 45 kg/m3) on the changes of the internal temperature field, the initial crack flexural strength and the flexural toughness of the SFRC components under a single-side fire. Moreover, combined with the four-point flexural test of the SFRC components post fire, the research also describes the damage of high temperatures to the flexural toughness of SFRC components, and suggests a calculation formula for SFRC thermal conductivity by way of the numerical inversion method. The results of this study have verified that the incorporation of steel fiber into concrete helps to reduce its internal thermal stress difference and improve the crack resistance and fire resistance of the concrete. Moreover, under high temperature conditions, the concrete component added with the steel fiber in an aspect ratio of 70 and a dosage of 45 kg/m3 increased their initial crack flexural strength by 56.8%, higher than that of plain concrete components, and the loss of equivalent flexural strength and flexural toughness of SFRC post fire was only 45.2% and 13.6%, respectively. The proposed calculation formula of thermal conductivity can provide a reference for a numerical simulation study of the temperature field of SFRC components in a high temperature environment.  相似文献

In this study, the shear performance of a reinforced concrete (RC) beam with Fe-based shape memory alloy (Fe-SMA) stirrups was evaluated experimentally and analytically. Five specimens that had a possibility of shear failure under four-point loading were prepared. The major experimental variables were the spacings (300 and 200 mm) between the Fe-SMA stirrups and whether the stirrups were activated or non-activated. The shear strength of the specimen reinforced with the Fe-SMA stirrups at a spacing of 200 mm was 27.1% higher than that of the specimen reinforced at a spacing of 300 mm. The activation of the Fe-SMA stirrups, which produced active confining pressure, increased the shear strength by up to 7.6% and decreased the number of shear cracks compared to the case of the non-activated specimen. Therefore, the use of Fe-SMA stirrups could significantly improve the usability of concrete members by increasing their shear strength and initial stiffness and by controlling crack formation. Furthermore, finite element method (FEM) analysis was conducted using LS-DYNA, a commercial software program, to predict the shear performance of the RC beam reinforced with the Fe-SMA stirrups. The ultimate load and displacement of each specimen were predicted with errors less than 1.4 and 9.4%, respectively. Furthermore, the FEM predicted the change in failure mode and the stiffness improvement due to the activation of the Fe-SMA stirrups. Therefore, the proposed finite element analysis model can effectively predict the behavior of an RC beam reinforced with Fe-SMA stirrups.  相似文献

The composite shear wall has various merits over the traditional reinforced concrete walls. Thus, several experimental studies have been reported in the literature in order to study the seismic behavior of composite shear walls. However, few numerical investigations were found in the previous literature because of difficulties in the interaction behavior of steel and concrete. This study aimed to present a numerical analysis of smart composite shear walls, which use an infilled steel plate and concrete. The study was carried out using the ANSYS software. The mechanical mechanisms between the web plate and concrete were investigated thoroughly. The results obtained from the finite element (FE) analysis show excellent agreement with the experimental test results in terms of the hysteresis curves, failure behavior, ultimate strength, initial stiffness, and ductility. The present numerical investigations were focused on the effects of the gap, thickness of infill steel plate, thickness of the concrete wall, and distance between shear studs on the composite steel plate shear wall (CSPSW) behavior. The results indicate that increasing the gap between steel plate and concrete wall from 0 mm to 40 mm improved the stiffness by 18% as compared to the reference model, which led to delay failures of this model. Expanding the infill steel plate thickness to 12 mm enhanced the stiffness and energy absorption with a ratio of 95% and 58%, respectively. This resulted in a gradual drop in the strength capacity of this model. Meanwhile, increasing concrete wall thickness to 150 mm enhanced the ductility and energy absorption with a ratio of 52% and 32%, respectively, which led to restricting the model and reduced lateral offset. Changing the distance between shear studs from 20% to 25% enhanced the ductility and energy absorption by about 66% and 32%, respectively.  相似文献

Steel fiber has been used successfully in concrete mixtures to control volumetric changes, including shrinkage. However, the feasibility of the use of steel fiber has been restricted to nonstructural construction, such as ‘slab on ground’. Recently, researchers have attempted to expand the applications of steel fiber to replace structural reinforcement (rebar) and have shown promising results in its substitution for shear reinforcement. Few studies have been conducted to ensure the feasibility of using steel fiber in structural components, however. This experimental study was designed to investigate the shear performance of steel fiber-reinforced concrete beams using the tensile strength of steel fiber and the shear span-to-depth ratio as variables. The experimental results indicate that the tensile strength of steel fiber significantly affects the shear strength of steel fiber-reinforced concrete beams, regardless of the shear span-to-depth ratio, and that steel fiber can play a role in shear reinforcement of concrete beams.  相似文献

The need to promote sustainable civil infrastructure is one of the most important concerns in the construction industry. Geopolymer composites are one of the promising eco-friendly materials for the development of low carbon concrete. The main objective of this experimental investigation is to study the effect of hybrid fibres on the shear strength of flexural members made with ternary blend geopolymer concrete (TGPC). A total number of 27 reinforced concrete beams of size 100 mm × 150 mm × 1200 mm were cast and tested for shear. M55 grade of concrete was considered in this study. Crimped steel fibres and polypropylene fibres with an aspect ratio of 66 and 300, respectively, were used in this work. The main variables considered in this investigation involve two volume proportions of steel fibres, viz., 0.5% and 1% as well as four volume proportions of polypropylene fibres viz., 0.1%, 0.15%, 0.2% and 0.25%. The hybrid fibre-reinforced ternary blend geopolymer concrete (HTGPC) beams were compared with TGPC beams without fibres. From the test results, it was clear that incorporating hybrid fibres improved the shear strength and changed the type of failure of the beam from shear to flexure. Moreover, a method to predict the ultimate shear strength of HTGPC was proposed, and the estimated values were found to be the same as the test results.  相似文献

The shear behavior of innovative engineered cementitious composites (ECC) members with a hybrid mix of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polypropylene (PP) fibers is examined. The overall objective of the investigation is to understand the shear behavior of ECC beams with different mono and hybrid fiber combinations without compromising the strength and ductility. Four different configurations of beams were prepared and tested, including 2.0% of PP fibers, 2.0% of PVA fibers, 2.0% of steel fibers and hybrid PVA and PP fibers (i.e., 1% PP and 1% PVA). In addition to the tests, a detailed nonlinear finite element (FE) analysis was accomplished using the commercial ABAQUS software. The validated FE model was used to perform an extensive parametric investigation to optimize the design parameters for the hybrid-fiber-reinforced ECC beams under shear. The results revealed that the use of hybrid PVA and PP fibers improved the performance by enhancing the overall strength and ductility compared to the steel and PP-fiber-based ECC beams. Incorporating hybrid fibers into ECC beams increased the critical shear crack angle, indicating the transition of a failure from a brittle diagonal tension to a ductile bending.  相似文献

In the last decades, fiber reinforced concrete have emerged as the possible key to revolutionize civil engineering. Among different types of fibers employed in concrete technology to date, the application of recycled steel fibers produced from end-of-life car tires appears to be a viable approach towards environmentally friendly construction. In this study, we demonstrate the laboratory research and numerical analysis of concrete reinforced with waste steel fibers recovered during the recycling process of end-of-life car tires. Concrete mixes with the following fiber contents: 0.5%, 0.75%, 1.0%, 1.25%, and 1.5% per volume were prepared and then tested in three-point bending conditions. The laboratory investigation revealed highly boosted properties of concrete under flexure. We further performed the finite element method (FEM) analysis of 2D models using Atena software in order to develop a material model allowing the numerical modelling of recycled steel fibers reinforced concrete (RSFRC) behavior. The parameters of RSFRC material model have been modified using the inverse analysis until matching the experimental performance of the material. The results, being in good agreement with the laboratory investigation, have indicated a high potential of RSFRC for real scale construction applications.  相似文献

Aligning steel fibers is an effective way to improve the mechanical properties of steel fiber cementitious composites (SFRC). In this study, the magnetic field method was used to prepare the aligned hooked-end steel fiber cementitious composites (ASFRC) and the fracture behavior was investigated. In order to achieve the alignment of steel fibers, the key parameters including the rheology of the mixture and magnetic induction of electromagnetic field were theoretically analyzed. The results showed that, compared with SFRC, the cracking load and the ultimate load of ASFRC were increased about 24–55% and 51–86%, respectively, depending on the fiber addition content. In addition, the flexural tensile strength and residual flexural strength of ASFRC were found to increase up to 105% and 100%, respectively. The orientation of steel fibers also has a significant effect on energy consumption. The fracture energy of ASFRC was 56–70% greater than SFRC and the reinforcement effect of hooked-end steel fiber was higher than straight steel fiber. The fibers in the fracture surface showed that not only was the number of fibers of ASFRC higher than that of SFRC, but also the orientation efficiency factor of ASFRC was superior to SFRC, which explains the improvement of fracture behavior of ASFRC.  相似文献

The paper reports the results of a comparative analysis of the experimental shear capacity obtained from the tests of reinforced concrete beams with various static schemes, loading modes and programs, and the shear capacity calculated using selected models. Single-span and two-span reinforced concrete beams under monotonic and cyclic loads were considered in the analysis. The computational models were selected based on their application to engineering practice, i.e., the approaches implemented in the European and US provisions. Due to the changing strength characteristics of concrete, the analysis was also focused on concrete contribution in the shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams in the cracked phase and on the angle of inclination of diagonal struts. During the laboratory tests, a modern ARAMIS digital image correlation (DIC) system was used for tracking the formation and development of diagonal cracks.  相似文献

It is extremely important to investigate the effect of the seismic performance of corrosion-damaged reinforced concrete (RC) members, in terms of strength and deformability, on the seismic performance of the entire building. This will allow a more accurate assessment of the seismic performance of RC structures with corroded members, including beams and columns. However, current methods of evaluating the seismic performance of RC structures fail to fully consider the influence of reinforcement corrosion and other performance deterioration of RC members. The main objective of this study is to propose a practical method of evaluating the seismic performance of RC structures with corrosion-damaged members, identifying factors contributing to structural performance deterioration based on strength and deformability for direct, quantitative evaluation of seismic performance. To achieve the aforementioned objective, the authors examined the effects of reinforcement corrosion on the structural behavior of RC beams and factors contributing to structural performance deterioration. Past experiments verified the strong correlation between the half-cell potential (HCP) before and after reinforcement corrosion and the reduction factor based on energy absorption capacity. However, current research evaluates the correlation between the extent of corrosion and structural performance deterioration of RC beam members, which are not members that resist lateral force. As such, the results cannot be directly applied to the evaluation of the seismic performance of RC structures containing corrosion-damaged members. To achieve this study’s main purpose of proposing a practical method of evaluating the seismic performance of RC structures comprised of corrosion-damaged members, analytical methods including structural experiments should be applied to corrosion-damaged lateral resisting members, namely, column members of the shear failure type with non-seismic details. This study performed cyclic loading tests on columns of the shear failure type having reinforcement corrosion to examine the correlation between HCP before and after corrosion and seismic performance deterioration. At the same time, finite element analysis (FEA) was carried out in consideration of the weakened bonding between steel and concrete, so as to analyze the correlation between structural performance deterioration before and after corrosion of shear columns. Through a comparison of the experimental findings and FEA results, this study proposed a seismic performance reduction factor in relation to the extent of corrosion of shear columns.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear performance of concrete beams with integrated shear reinforcements made of steel plates and rebar bent in an N shape (N-type rebar), and to evaluate the applicability of the current relevant design standards. For this purpose, four concrete beam specimens were manufactured. Four-point loading tests were performed with all the specimens. The experiments confirmed that both types of shear reinforcements had a shear-reinforcing effect (an about 60% increase in shear strength), but the N-type rebar did not exceed the nominal shear strength, probably because the rebar did not yield sufficiently. A sufficient number of steel-plate-type shear reinforcements yielded in the shear crack. When evaluating the shear performance of a new shear reinforcement, it is necessary to calculate the design strength by actually reflecting whether the shear reinforcements’ yields are due to the angle of the diagonal crack. Calculating the shear contribution based on the strain of the shear reinforcements and comparing this shear strength with those five design standards, the shear strength of the shear reinforcements were evaluated conservatively. It is considered that there will be no problem in structural safety even if the shear design is carried out according to the current design standards.  相似文献

Geopolymer concrete has the potential to replace ordinary Portland cement which can reduce carbon dioxide emission to the environment. The addition of different amounts of steel fibers, as well as different types of end-shape fibers, could alter the performance of geopolymer concrete. The source of aluminosilicate (fly ash) used in the production of geopolymer concrete may lead to a different result. This study focuses on the comparison between Malaysian fly ash geopolymer concrete with the addition of hooked steel fibers and geopolymer concrete with the addition of straight-end steel fibers to the physical and mechanical properties. Malaysian fly ash was first characterized by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) to identify the chemical composition. The sample of steel fiber reinforced geopolymer concrete was produced by mixing fly ash, alkali activators, aggregates, and specific amounts of hook or straight steel fibers. The steel fibers addition for both types of fibers are 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.0% by volume percentage. The samples were cured at room temperature. The physical properties (slump, density, and water absorption) of reinforced geopolymer concrete were studied. Meanwhile, a mechanical performance which is compressive, as well as the flexural strength was studied. The results show that the pattern in physical properties of geopolymer concrete for both types of fibers addition is almost similar where the slump is decreased with density and water absorption is increased with the increasing amount of fibers addition. However, the addition of hook steel fiber to the geopolymer concrete produced a lower slump than the addition of straight steel fibers. Meanwhile, the addition of hook steel fiber to the geopolymer concrete shows a higher density and water absorption compared to the sample with the addition of straight steel fibers. However, the difference is not significant. Besides, samples with the addition of hook steel fibers give better performance for compressive and flexural strength compared to the samples with the addition of straight steel fibers where the highest is at 1.0% of fibers addition.  相似文献
