Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is characterized by delayed senescence and slow accumulation of monoclonal, small lymphocytes. Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) is a pleiotropic cytokine that plays a role in hematopoiesis and apoptosis. Elevated bFGF levels have been detected in urine from patients with a variety of neoplastic diseases including various leukemias; however, the cellular source of the bFGF has not been determined. In this study, the intracellular bFGF level in lymphocytes of 36 patients with B-CLL and 15 normal donors was determined using an enzyme-linked immunoassay. In cells derived from patients with high-risk disease, the median level of intracellular bFGF was 381.5 pg/2 x 10(5) cells, compared with a median of 90.5 pg/2 x 10(5) cells in patients with intermediate disease. In patients with low- risk disease, the median bFGF level was 4.9 pg/2 x 10(5) cells, and in normal controls, it was 6.0 pg/2 x 10(5) cells. The difference in the bFGF levels was significant for the comparison between low- and intermediate-risk (P = .00119), low- and high-risk (P < .0001), and intermediate- and high-risk disease (P = .0001). Immunofluorescent stains of peripheral blood mononuclear cells confirmed CLL lymphocytes as a cellular source of bFGF. To evaluate the potential contribution of elevated intracellular bFGF levels to the phenotype of CLL cells, leukemic cells were cultured in vitro with an apoptotic stimulus (fludarabine). CLL cells with high intracellular levels of bFGF appeared to be more resistant to fludarabine treatment. The addition of bFGF to fludarabine-treated CLL cells resulted in a delay of apoptosis and prolonged survival. These data suggest that bFGF may contribute to the resistance of CLL cells to an apoptotic stimulus.  相似文献

Angiogenesis is a crucial process in growth and progression of cancer and there is growing evidence that neovascularisation is important in hematological malignancies. Since an increased angiogenic potential has been identified in multiple myeloma, we simultaneously measured circulating serum levels of the cytokines bFGF, VEGF, HGF and IL-6 by ELISA in 67 patients with multiple myeloma or monoclonal gammopathies of undetermined significance (MGUS) and in 20 controls. Median values of bFGF were 4.7 pg/ml in healthy volunteers, 6.2 in MGUS, 6.3 in myeloma stage I, 13.4 in stage II and 21.7 in stage III. Myeloma patients had significantly higher bFGF serum levels than controls (p<0.001). Pretreatment bFGF levels differed significantly in the Salmon and Durie stages I-III (p=0.02) and were significantly elevated in stage II-III compared to stage I myeloma (p=0.02). In patients responding to chemotherapy according to the CLMTF criteria, a significant decrease in serum bFGF, VEGF and HGF levels occurred (median pretreatment values for bFGF 23.9 pg/ml, post-treatment 6.5 pg/ml; p<0.001, for VEGF 223 pg/ml versus 105 pg/ml; p=0.02 and for HGF 1429 pg/ml versus 1077 pg/ml; p=0.02, respectively). In 11 patients who did not achieve a remission, there was no significant decrease in bFGF, VEGF and HGF levels. These data show that myeloma in stages II and III is associated with an increase in serum bFGF concentrations and give the first report that effective chemo-therapy is accompanied by a significant decrease in the angiogenic factors bFGF, VEGF and HGF, while no decrease of these factors could be found in nonresponders.  相似文献

Strong evidence exists for an association between high vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels and poor prognoses in patients with solid tumors and acute leukemia. Using Western blot analysis and solid-phase radioimmunoassay, we measured cellular VEGF levels in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) samples from 225 patients and correlated these levels with disease characteristics and prognoses. The median VEGF level in CLL samples was 7.26 times the median level detected in normal peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Patients with lower levels of VEGF protein showed a trend toward shorter survival (P =.07). However, in a subgroup of CLL patients with good prognoses or early-stage disease (Rai stages 0-II, Binet stages A,B; beta2-M 相似文献

Serum concentrations of three angiogenic cytokines: vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), interleukin-18 (IL-18) and antiangiogenic factor endostatin in the serum of 52 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and 20 healthy subjects were investigated. The possible association between serum levels of these proteins and SLE activity as well as correlation between the concentrations of angiogenic cytokines and the level of endostatin was also analyzed. VEGF and IL-18 were detectable in all SLE patients and healthy control group. bFGF was measurable in 71.2% of patients with SLE and 65% of healthy persons. Endostatin was detectable in 94.2% of SLE patients and 95% of normal subjects. The serum levels of endostatin and bFGF were not significantly different in SLE and healthy control (P > 0.05). The median concentration of VEGF was higher in active SLE (238.4 pg/ml) than in inactive disease (118.1 pg/ml, P < 0.05) or in control group (133.5 pg/ml, P < 0.04). The median serum level of IL-18 was higher in the SLE patients (595.2 pg/ml) than in the control group (252.7 pg/ml) (P < 0.001). The correlations between the levels of angiogenic cytokines and endostatin with clinical features, laboratory abnormalities and also with the type of treatment were analysed. We found a positive correlation between VEGF serum concentration and SLE activity according to SLAM score (p = 0.275, P < 0.05). The significant positive correlation was also found between IL-18 and endostatin (p = 0.289, P < 0.04). In contrast, the correlation between bFGF and endostatin was significantly negative (p = - 0.299, P < 0.04). In conclusion, serum levels of the angiogenic and antiangiogenic factors may play an important role in SLE pathogenesis.  相似文献

We investigated the serum concentration of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and transforming growth factor beta1 (TGFbeta1), using an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in a group of 18 chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients, before and after a successful treatment with cladribine (2-chlorodeoxyadenosine, 2-CdA) and 16 healthy volunteers. The serum level of bFGF was found to be significantly lower in the control group (median 0.15 pg/ml, range 0.0-15.7 pg/ml), when compared to the untreated CLL patients (median 41.4 pg/ml, range 2.1-292.6 pg/ml) (p=0.0002). After a successful 2-CdA treatment we observed a significantly lower level of this cytokine (median 10.55 pg/ml, range 0.4-140.4 pg/ml) (p=0.0019) in the same patients. However, the level of bFGF in this group was still higher than in the control group (p=0.003). The levels of TGFbeta1 were higher in the group of untreated CLL patients (median 31.36 ng/ml, range 14.36-75.71 ng/ml) than in the control group (median 28.35 ng/ml, range 10.85-70.10 ng/ml) (p=0.029). After the 2-CdA treatment serum concentration of this cytokine decreased significantly (median 20.34 ng/ml, range 3.02-43.85 ng/ml) (p=0.031) with similar levels present to that of the healthy control group (p=0.3). In conclusion, we have shown that the serum concentration of bFGF and TGFbeta1 in CLL patients were significantly reduced after 2-CdA chemotherapy that resulted in remission. The level of these factors might correlate with the activity of the disease.  相似文献

AIM: To assess the role of transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in the pathogenesis of fibrosis associated with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) and to evaluate the influence of the antiviral therapy on above parameter levels depending on the treatment results (complete response or no response). METHODS: Study group included 100 patients with CHC, in whom fibrosis in liver specimens was assessed (Scheuer fibrosis score: 1-4 points). Control group included 30 subjects with antibodies anti-HCV present and persistently normal ALT level, without fibrosis (Scheuer fibrosis score: 0 points). Concentration of studied parameters was assayed in the serum by immunoenzymatic method before and after the therapy with interferon alpha-2b and ribavirin. RESULTS: TGF-beta1 levels were significantly higher in the study group compared to the control group (35.89 vs 32.37 ng/mL; P=0.023). Such differences were not found in VEGF and bFGF levels. In patients showing complete response (negative HCV RNA and normal ALT level), significant increase in VEGF (112.8 vs 315.03 pg/mL; P<0.05) and bFGF (2.51 vs 15.79 pg/mL; P=0.04) levels were found. Significant decrease in TGF-beta1 level was observed both in responders (37.44 vs 30.02 ng/mL; P=0.05), and in non-responders (38.22 vs 30.43 ng/mL; P=0.043). bFGF levels before the treatment were significantly lower (2.51 vs 5.94 pg/mL; P=0.04), and after the treatment significantly higher (15.79 vs 4.35 pg/mL; P=0.01) in patients with complete response than in those with no response. CONCLUSION: Among the analyzed parameters TGF-beta1 seems to play the most important role in the pathogenesis of fibrosis in CHC. Levels of this factor are significantly lower in subjects who do not have fibrosis developed in them. Good therapeutic effect in CHC patients is associated with significant changes in TGF-beta1, VEGF, and bFGF levels. bFGF seems to have the highest usefulness in the prognosis of treatment efficacy.  相似文献

AIM: To investigate whether vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblastic growth factor (bFGF) are associated with spider angiomas in patients with liver cirrhosis.METHODS: Eighty-six patients with liver cirrhosis were enrolled and the number and size of the spider angiomas were recorded. Fifty-three healthy subjects were selected as controls. Plasma levels of VEGF and bFGF were measured in both the cirrhotics and the controls.RESULTS: Plasma VEGF and bFGF were increased in cirrhotics compared with controls (L22±13 vs. 71±11 pg/mL, P=0.003for VEGF; 5.1±0.5 vs. 3.4-±0.5 pg/mL, P=0.022 for bFGF). In cirrhotics, plasma VEGF and bFGF were also higher in patients with spider angiomas compared with patients without spider angiomas (185±28 vs. 90±10 pg/mL, P=0.003 for VEGF;6.8±1.0 vs. 4.1±0.5 pg/mL, P=0.017 for bFGF). Multivariate logistic regression showed that young age and increased plasma levels of VEGF and bFGF were the most significant predictors for the presence of spider angiomas in cirrhotic patients (odds ratio [OR]=6.64, 95 % confidence interval [CI]=2.02-21.79, P=0.002; OR=4.35, 95 % CI=1.35-14.01,P=0.014; OR=5.66, 95 % CI=1.72-18.63, P=0.004, respectively).CONCLUSION: Plasma VEGF and bFGF are elevated in patients with liver cirrhosis. Age as well as plasma levels of VEGF and bFGF are significant predictors for spider angiomas in cirrhotic patients.  相似文献

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is characterized by extraordinary heterogeneity in terms of clinical course with overall survival ranging from several months to dozens of years. It is currently not possible to accurately predict the future clinical course in an individual patient. Angiogenesis has been recently reported as a potential prognostic factor in various hematological malignancies including CLL. The objective of the present study was to quantify plasma levels of key angiogenic activators vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in patients with CLL and determine their potential change after intensive fludarabine-based treatment. Peripheral blood EDTA plasma concentrations of bFGF and VEGF were measured using comercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in 73 patients with untreated CLL (43 males, 30 females, median age, 65 years, range 31-88) and 80 healthy donors serving as control group. We found statistically significant increase in concentrations in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia compared to the control group (p < 0.0001 for both cytokines). No differences in angiogenic factors were noted between subgroups with low vs. intermediate vs. high-risk stage according to modified Rai staging or males vs. females. In twelve patients who achieved at least partial response after intensive fludarabine-based treatment, levels of bFGF as well as VEGF decreased significantly (bFGF, p = 0.0005; VEGF, p = 0.0068); in addition, they were no more significantly different from controls (bFGF, p = 0.524; VEGF, p = 0.728). Our data showed that key angiogenic activators bFGF and VEGF were elevated in plasma ofCLL patients. Furthemore, treatment with intensive fludarabine-containing regimens resulted in significant decrease of both cytokines. These data suggest that angiogenic cytokines may indeed play a significant role in CLL biology and that treatment with combination of fludarabine, cyclophosphamide +/- rituximab may exhibit antiangiogenic properties. Further studies with longer follow-up are necessary for evaluation of a possible association between angiogenic markers and progression-free survival or overall survival.  相似文献

Purpose: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) have been suggested to be important mediators for tumor-induced angiogenesis. We measured serum VEGF and bFGF levels from patients with soft-tissue sarcomas and correlated serum VEGF and bFGF levels with tumor status at surgery and histological grading. Materials and methods: A group of 18 healthy controls and 85 patients with soft-tissue sarcoma were enrolled in this study. The patients were classified according to tumor status at surgery. Serum levels of VEGF and bFGF were also correlated with histological grading. VEGF and bFGF levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (Quantikine R&D Systems). Results: Serum VEGF and bFGF levels were significantly elevated in the patient group (VEGF: 580pg/ml, bFbF: 21pg/ml, P = 0.0001). The highest concentrations of serum VEGF and bFGF were found in patients with macroscopic tumor lesions or G3 histology. Serum VEGF levels showed a statistically significant correlation with tumor status and grading (P = 0.006 for tumor status, P = 0.0001 for grading). Conclusions: This study reveals that elevated preoperative serum VEGF and bFGF levels can be detected in the majority of patients with soft-tissue sarcoma. The significant correlation with tumor mass and histological grading suggests that a consecutive monitoring of VEGF and bFGF in the serum of patients with soft-tissue sarcoma might be a valuable marker for tumor follow-up. The present study is the first to evaluate serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). All 68 B-cell CLL patients and 31 control subjects analysed had detectable serum levels of VEGF, with no statistically significant difference between two proups. An aberrant increase of circulating levels of VEGF was found in only 17.6% of cases. B-cell CLL patients whose serum VEGF levels were higher than the median (i.e. 194.8 pg/ml) or 75th percentile (i.e. 288.5 pg/ml) values were more frequently at an advanced clinical stage. In contrast, no correlation with other clinico-biological features representative of either tumour mass [bone marrow (BM) histology, peripheral blood (PB) lymphocytosis, beta-2 microglobulin (beta-2m), LDH, interleukin-6 (IL-6)] or disease-progression (DP) [lymphocyte doubling time (LDT)] was found. Serum levels of VEGF predicted the risk of DP in early CLL. Among 41 patients in Binet stage A, progression-free survival (PFS) was significantly shorter in those patients whose VEGF serum concentrations were above the median value. Interestingly, characteristics of stage A patients stratified according to the median value of VEGF were similar with respect to many clinico-biological features, thus suggesting a possible independent prognostic role for such a marker. Finally, when added to the Rai subclassification, VEGF serum levels identified two groups with different PFS within stages I-II. We conclude that increased serum levels of VEGF can be considered useful for predicting the risk of DP and add prognostic information to the Rai subclassification of stage A CLL.  相似文献

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a potent angiogenesis mediator. Scant reports are available defining the role of VEGF in active and inactive tubercular meningitis (TBM) with no studies on brain tuberculoma. We quantified VEGF levels by enzyme linked immunoassay (ELISA) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum in 20 cases each with active and inactive TBM as well as 22 cases of intraparenchymal tuberculoma. VEGF expression and microvessel angiogenesis quantification was done in 7 cases where tuberculomas were excised. Significantly increased VEGF levels in CSF were found in active TBM cases (106.0+/-50.0 pg/ml) compared to inactive TBM cases (14.7+/-10.0 pg/ml) (p<0.001). Mean serum VEGF levels in active TBM, inactive TBM and tuberculoma were 694.93+/-820.66 pg/ml, 499.61+/-238.33 pg/ml and 541.0+/-389.0 pg/ml, respectively. Immunohistochemical staining of excised tuberculoma demonstrated high expression of VEGF in granulomatous areas with intense positivity in inflammatory mononuclear cells, Langhan's giant cells as well as reactive astrocytes and fibrocytes. A strong positive correlation was observed between microvessel density and VEGF expression. Serial decrease in serum VEGF levels was observed with increasing duration of therapy in tuberculoma. We conclude that increased CSF and serum VEGF levels are a measure of activity of the disease in neurotuberculosis and its gradual decrease over a period of time is probably an indicator of therapeutic response.  相似文献

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a potent mediator of angiogenesis. Increased expression of VEGF may be associated with advanced stage and poor prognosis in patients with lung cancer. We investigated the relationship between serum VEGF level and lung cancer stage. We also studied the correlation between serum VEGF level and some other tumor markers. Forty newly diagnosed lung cancer (31 non-small cell, 9 small cell) patients and 25 age-matched controls were enrolled in this study. Serum VEGF levels of lung cancer group (345.16 +/- 159.36 pg/mL) were significantly higher than that of the control group (230.36 +/- 47.87 pg/mL) (p< 0.001). The area under the ROC curve was 0.727 (p< 0.05) for serum VEGF threshold of 249.8 pg/mL predictive sensitivity and specificity, for lung cancer were respectively 70.0% and 76.0%. There were no significant relationship between serum VEGF level and age, gender, histologic type, lung cancer stage, distant metastases and site of metastases. In addition, there were no correlation between serum VEGF level and other tumor markers (NSE, CYFRA 21-1, CEA, CA125, LDH).  相似文献

Bcl-2 plays a key role in the regulation of apoptosis. We investigated the role of a novel regulatory single-nucleotide polymorphism (-938C>A) in the inhibitory P2 BCL2 promoter in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL). The -938C allele displayed significantly increased BCL2 promoter activity and binding of nuclear proteins compared with the A allele. Concomitantly, Bcl-2 protein expression in B cells from CLL patients carrying the -938 AA genotype was significantly increased compared with CC genotypes. Genotype distribution between 123 CLL patients (42 AA, 55 AC, 26 CC) and 120 genotyped healthy controls (36 AA, 63 AC, 21 CC) was not significantly different, suggesting that genotypes of this polymorphism do not increase the susceptibility for B-CLL. However, median time from first diagnosis to initiation of chemotherapy and median overall survival were significantly shorter in patients with -938AA genotype (38 and 199 months, respectively) compared with AC/CC genotypes (120 and 321 months, respectively; P = .008 and P = .003, respectively). Multivariable Cox regression identified the BCL2-938AA genotype as an independent prognostic factor for the time to first treatment (hazard ratio [HR] 1.9; P = .034) together with disease stage at diagnosis (HR 2.5; P = .004) and ZAP-70 status (HR 3.0; P = .001). The BCL2-938AA genotype is associated with increased Bcl-2 expression and a novel unfavorable genetic marker in patients with B-CLL.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Pulmonary infection caused by Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) is one of the granulomatous diseases which are associated with the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The aim of the present study was to clarify the association of VEGF with the pathogenesis of MAC infection. METHODOLOGY: The serum VEGF levels in 46 patients with pulmonary MAC infection were compared with those in 16 normal control subjects. Pulmonary lesions were evaluated using chest CT. In 20 patients, after treatment, serum VEGF levels were measured and chest CT performed again to evaluate pulmonary response to treatment. RESULTS: Infected patients had higher serum VEGF levels than controls (435.2 +/- 29.1 vs. 167.0 +/- 10.6 pg/mL, P < 0.0001), and serum VEGF level correlated with the extent of disease. The serum VEGF levels in 14 patients who underwent treatment and exhibited an improvement in their pulmonary lesions decreased significantly compared with the results pretreatment (509.0 +/- 60.7 vs. 303.6 +/- 65.3 pg/mL, P = 0.0092). In infected patients, alveolar macrophages, epithelioid cells and multinucleated giant cells exhibited VEGF overexpression on immunohistochemical staining. CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that VEGF may be associated with the pathogenesis of pulmonary MAC infection. Additionally, serum VEGF levels may be a useful surrogate marker for evaluating the extent of disease and of the response to treatment.  相似文献

The aim of our study was to assess the influence of rosuvastatin on coronary angiogenesis. 30 male patients with chronic coronary heart disease and total cholesterol level > 5.2 mmol/l were treated with rosuvastatin 10 mg daily during 3 months. The serum level of total cholesterol (TC), LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C), HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides (TG) as well as C-reactive protein (CRP) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) were measured initially and in 3 months. There was the significant decreasing of TC, LDL-C and TG concentrations. IL-6 and CRP serum levels were also decreased after rosuvastatin therapy. Three months of treatment resulted to significant decrease of VEGF with no changes of bFGF levels. The correlation was not found between CRP and VEGF levels and between IL-6 and VEGF levels. Also there was no correlation between the degree of decreasing CRP and VEGF, and IL-6 and VEGF. So we have shown significant decreasing of VEGF serum levels on rosuvastatin therapy. It could be possible mechanism of plaque stabilization in patients with coronary heart disease.  相似文献

Some angiogenic factors, including hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), have been reported to promote angiogenesis and improve myocardial perfusion in experimental models of ischemic heart disease. These factors are produced in various tissues, including myocardium. We measured the concentrations of HGF, bFGF, and VEGF by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in plasma and in pericardial fluid sampled during open heart surgery (12 patients with ischemic heart disease and 17 with nonischemic heart disease). HGF levels were significantly higher in plasma than in pericardial fluid (12.0 +/- 1.8 versus 0.26 +/- 0.04 ng/mL, P < 0.0001). On the other hand, bFGF levels were significantly higher in pericardial fluid than in plasma (243.5 +/- 50.9 versus 49.6 +/- 7.8 pg/mL, P = 0.009). VEGF levels were not significantly different between pericardial fluid and plasma (47.2 +/- 17.6 versus 24.5 +/- 3.6 pg/mL, P = 0.23). Concentrations of angiogenic factors in pericardial fluid and in plasma were not significantly different between patients with ischemic and nonischemic heart disease. These results suggest that the production, secretion, and kinetics of HGF, bFGF, and VEGF are different. These angiogenic factors may have different pathophysiologic roles.  相似文献

Although we reported that basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) levels in pericardial fluid of patients with unstable angina are apparently increased, it was unclear whether vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is also increased in patients with myocardial ischemia. Using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, we measured the concentrations of VEGF and bFGF in pericardial fluid of 51 patients with open heart surgery. Patients were divided into group A (n=10) with class III unstable angina (Braunwald's classification), group B (n=24) with class I or II unstable angina or stable angina and group C (n=17) with non-ischemic heart disease. The VEGF level in pericardial fluid in group A was 83±7 pg/ml, being significantly (p<0.001) higher than the 27±3 pg/ml in group B and the 28±5 pg/ml in group C. The concentrations of bFGF in pericardial fluid in groups A and B were 1461±579 and 1224±161 pg/ml, respectively, significantly (p<0.05) higher than the 292±97 pg/ml in group C. The level of VEGF in pericardial fluid was increased only in patients with severe rest angina within 2 days before emergency coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG), while bFGF was increased in all patients undergoing CABG for coronary artery disease. Thus VEGF and bFGF may play important roles in mediating collateral growth in humans.  相似文献

Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) have both shown strong angiogenetic effects in ischemic animal models and it has been reported that these growth factors were increased after acute myocardial ischemia. However, there have been few reports on the serum levels of bFGF and VEGF after acute myocardial infarction (AMI), in particular there has not been a comparative study of bFGF and VEGF in human subjects. The time course of circulating levels of bFGF and VEGF was examined in 36 patients with AMI who were within 24h of the onset of the AMI. The serum bFGF and VEGF levels of 50 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers served as the baseline value. All the patients had undergone coronary angiography on the day of admission (Day 0), but prior to that the serum bFGF and VEGF levels were examined by enzyme-linked immunoassay. The serum bFGF and VEGF levels were also evaluated on Days 7, 14 and 28. Creatine kinase, myosin light chain I and troponin-T were measured subsequently and radionuclide examinations were performed during the early phase of AMI to determine the infarct size. The serum bFGF levels were significantly increased at Day 0 and were maintained until Days 7 and 14. Although serum VEGF levels at Day 0 were similar to the baseline values, they showed a remarkable increase by Days 7 and 14. A high serum level of bFGF was detected in the acute phase of AMI, and a later increase in VEGF was determined in the sub-acute phase, which suggest that these 2 growth factors play an important role at different time points of the reconstructing process of infarcted myocardial tissue.  相似文献
