Wire and arc additive manufacturing based on cold metal transfer (WAAM-CMT), as a kind of clean and advanced technology, has been widely researched recently. It was analyzed in detail for the microstructure and mechanical properties of WAAM-CMT printed TiB2/AlSi7Mg0.6 samples fore-and-aft heat treatment in this study. Compared with the grain size of casted AlSi7Mg0.6 samples (252 μm), the grain size of WAAM-CMT printed AlSi7Mg0.6 samples (53.4 μm) was refined, showing that WAAM-CMT process could result in significant grain refinement. Besides, the grain size of WAAM-CMT printed TiB2/AlSi7Mg0.6 samples was about 35 μm, revealing that the addition of TiB2 particles played a role in grain refinement. Nevertheless, the grain size distribution was not uniform, showing a mixture of fine grain and coarse grain, and the mechanical properties were anisotropic of the as-printed samples. This study shows that T6 heat treatment is an efficient way to improve the nonuniform microstructure and eliminate the anisotropy in mechanical properties.  相似文献

Titanium diboride (TiB2) is a hard, refractory material, attractive for a number of applications, including wear-resistant machine parts and tools, but it is difficult to densify. The spark plasma sintering (SPS) method allows producing TiB2-based composites of high density with different sintering aids, among them titanium silicides. In this paper, Ti5Si3 is used as a sintering aid for the sintering of TiB2/10 wt % Ti5Si3 and TiB2/20 wt % Ti5Si3 composites at 1600 °C and 1700 °C for 10 min. The phase composition of the initial powders and produced composites was analyzed by the X-ray diffraction method using CuKα radiation. The microstructure was examined using scanning electron microscopy, accompanied by energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The hardness was determined using a diamond indenter of Vickers geometry loaded at 9.81 N. Friction–wear properties were tested in the dry sliding test in a ball-on-disc configuration, using WC as a counterpart material. The major phases present in the TiB2/Ti5Si3 composites were TiB2 and Ti5Si3. Traces of TiC were also identified. The hardness of the TiB2/Ti5Si3 composites was in the range of 1860–2056 HV1 and decreased with Ti5Si3 content, as well as the specific wear rate Wv. The coefficient of friction for the composites was in the range of 0.5–0.54, almost the same as for TiB2 sinters. The main mechanism of wear was abrasive.  相似文献

Three different Ti addition routes were used to prepare an Al–5Ti–B Master Alloy: the halide salt route, the Ti-sponge route, and the partial Ti-sponge route. In the halide salt route, the raw materials were Al + KBF4 + K2TiF6; K2TiF6 was completely replaced by pure titanium for the Ti-sponge route versus the halide salt route; in the partial Ti-sponge route, K2TiF6 was partially replaced by pure titanium. Here, 30% Ti-sponge or 60% Ti-sponge route means that 30% or 60% K2TiF6 was replaced by pure titanium, respectively. The above Ti addition routes have a significant influence on the growth pattern and morphological evolution of TiAl3 and TiB2, which greatly affect the refining performance of Al–Ti–B Master Alloy. When using the halide salt route, a streamlined “rich Ti, B area” exists in the aluminum melt, which is a complex compound of (Tix, Al1−x) By. The “rich Ti, B area” is essential for the nucleation and growth of TiAl3 and TiB2. Blocky TiAl3 was obtained and its average size was 4.7 μm based on the halide salt route. In the Ti-sponge route, the nucleation of TiAl3 mainly depends on the mutual diffusion of Al and Ti, and TiAlx forms around pure Ti particles, i.e., the so-called Ti–TiAlx mechanism. The average size of the blocky TiAl3 was 9.8 μm based on the Ti–TiAlx mechanism. For the partial Ti-sponge route, the “rich Ti, B area” gradually decreases with the increase in Ti powder’s contents, and large TiAl3 coexists with the small TiAl3. Compared with the Ti-sponge route, the halide salt route can form smaller TiAl3. In the Ti-sponge route, there is a small amount of “rich Ti, B area” due to the influence of the Ti–TiAlx mechanism, which does not meet the requirements of TiB2 growth. In the halide salt route, there is sufficient “rich Ti, B area”, which is conducive to the formation of TiB2. Both the crystal defects and the crowded growth environment caused by the “rich Ti, B area” are fundamental reasons for the fragility and the irregular shape of the TiB2. The refining effect of the Al–Ti–B Master Alloy prepared by the halide salt route is better than the Ti-sponge route. The refining effect of 30% Ti-sponge route is better than that of Ti-sponge route and worse than that of halide salt route.  相似文献

In-situ synthesis, microstructure, and mechanical properties of four TiB2-Reinforced Fe-Cr-Mn-Al Steel Matrix Composites have been researched in this work. The microstructure and phases of the prepared specimens have been characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction technique, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The sintered specimens consisted of Fe2AlCr, CrFeB-type boride, and TiB2. The mechanical properties, such as hardness and compression strength at room temperature (RT) and at elevated temperatures (600 °C and 800 °C) have been evaluated. The compressive strength and Vickers hardness of the sintered specimens increase with the volume fraction of TiB2 in the matrix, which are all much higher than those of the ex-situ TiB2/Fe-15Cr-20Mn-8Al composites and the reported TiB2/Fe-Cr composites with the same volume fraction of TiB2. The highest Vickers hardness and compressive strength at room temperature are 1213 ± 35 HV and 3500 ± 20 MPa, respectively. As the testing temperature increases to 600 °C, or even 800 °C, these composites still show relatively high compressive strength. Precipitation strengthening of CrFeB and in-situ synthesis of TiB2 as well as nanocrystalline microstructure produced by the combination of mechanical alloying (MA) and spark plasma sintering (SPS) can account for the high Vickers hardness and compressive strength.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of a study of the microstructure and selected properties of silver-based composites reinforced with TiO2 nanoparticles, produced by the powder metallurgy method. Pure silver powders were mixed with TiO2 reinforcement (5 and 10 wt%) and 5 mm steel balls (100Cr6) for 270 min in a Turbula T2F mixer to produce a homogeneous mixture. The composites were made in a rigid die with a single-action compaction press under a pressure of 400 MPa and 500 MPa and then sintered under nitrogen atmosphere at 900 °C. Additionally, to improve the density and mechanical properties of the obtained sinters, double pressing and double sintering operations were conducted. As a result, compacts with a density of 90–94% were obtained. The microstructure of the sintered compacts consists of uniform grains, and the TiO2 reinforcement phase particles are located on the grain boundaries. There were no discontinuities at the Ag–TiO2 contact boundary, which was confirmed by SEM and TEM analysis. The use of a higher pressure had a positive effect on the hardness and flexural strength of the tested materials. It was found that the composites with 5 wt% TiO2 pressed under 500 MPa are characterized by the highest level of mechanical properties. The hardness of these composites is 57 HB, while the flexural strength is 163 MPa.  相似文献

B4C/TiB2 ceramic composites reinforced with three size scales (average particle size: 7 μm, 500 nm, and 50 nm) of TiB2 were prepared by using a pressureless sintering furnace at 2100 °C under Ar atmosphere for 60 min. The results demonstrated that during the sintering process, TiB2 located on the boundaries between different B4C grains could inhibit the grain growth which improved the mass transport mechanism and sintering driving force. A semi-coherent interface between B4C and SiC was found, which is supposed to help to reduce the interface energy and obtain good mechanical properties of the B4C/TiB2 ceramic composite. On sample cooling from sintering temperature to room temperature, the residual tensile stress fields formed at the TiB2 interfaces owning to the thermo-elastico properties mismatched, which might have contributed to increase the ability of the sample to resist crack propagation. The results showed that the relative density, Vickers hardness, and fracture toughness of the composite with 20 wt.% submicron and 10 wt.% nano-TiB2 were significantly improved, which were 98.6%, 30.2 GPa, and 5.47 MPa·m1/2, respectively.  相似文献

We studied the fabrication of functionally graded Al2O3–CeO2-stabilized-ZrO2 (CTZ) ceramics by spark plasma sintering. The ceramic composite exhibits a gradual change in terms of composition and porosity in the axial direction. The composition gradient was created by layering starting powders with different Al2O3 to CTZ ratios, whereas the porosity gradient was established with a large temperature difference, which was induced by an asymmetric graphite tool configuration during sintering. SEM investigations confirmed the development of a porosity gradient from the top toward the bottom side of the Al2O3–CTZ ceramic and the relative pore volume distributed in a wide range from 0.02 to 100 µm for the samples sintered in asymmetric configuration (ASY), while for the reference samples (STD), the size of pores was limited in the nanometer scale. The microhardness test exhibited a gradual change along the axis of the ASY samples, reaching 10 GPa difference between the two opposite sides of the Al2O3–CTZ ceramics without any sign of delamination or cracks between the layers. The flexural strength of the samples for both series showed an increasing tendency with higher sintering temperatures. However, the ASY samples achieved higher strength due to their lower total porosity and the newly formed elongated CeAl11O18 particles.  相似文献

Alumina-zirconia (AZ) composites are attractive structural materials, which combine the high hardness and Young’s modulus of the alumina matrix with additional toughening effects, due to the zirconia dispersion. In this study, AZ composites containing different amounts of zirconia (in the range 5–20 vol %) were prepared by a wet chemical method, consisting on the surface coating of alumina powders by mixing them with zirconium salt aqueous solutions. After spray-drying, powders were calcined at 600 °C for 1 h. Green bodies were then prepared by two methods: uniaxial pressing of spray-dried granules and slip casting of slurries, obtained by re-dispersing the spray dried granulates. After pressureless sintering at 1500 °C for 1 h, the slip cast samples gave rise to fully dense materials, characterized by a quite homogeneous distribution of ZrO2 grains in the alumina matrix. The microstructure, phase composition, tetragonal to monoclinic transformation behavior and mechanical properties were investigated and are here discussed as a function of the ZrO2 content. The material containing 10 vol % ZrO2 presented a relevant hardness and exhibited the maximum value of KI0, mainly imputable to the t → m transformation at the crack tip.  相似文献

The mechanical properties of iron-rich Al–Si alloy is limited by the existence of plenty of the iron-rich phase (β-Al5FeSi), whose unfavorable morphology not only splits the matrix but also causes both stress concentration and interface mismatch with the Al matrix. The effect of the cooling rate on the tensile properties of Fe-rich Al–Si alloy was studied by the melt spinning method at different rotating speeds. At the traditional casting cooling rate of ~10 K/s, the size of the needle-like β-Al5FeSi phase is about 80 μm. In contrast, the size of the β-Al5FeSi phase is reduced to 500 nm and the morphology changes to a granular morphology with the high cooling rate of ~104 K/s. With the increase of the cooling rate, the morphology of the β-Al5FeSi phase is optimized, meanwhile the tensile properties of Fe-rich Al–Si alloy are greatly improved. The improved tensile properties of the Fe-rich Al-Si alloy is attributed to the combination of Fe-rich reinforced particles and the granular silicon phase provided by the high cooling rate of the melt spinning method.  相似文献

The current study investigated the microstructure modification in Al–6Mg–5Si–0.15Ti alloy (in mass %) through the minor addition of Ca using Mg + Al2Ca master alloy and heat treatment to see their impact on mechanical properties. The microstructure of unmodified alloy (without Ca) consisted of primary Al, primary Mg2Si, binary eutectic Al–Mg2Si, ternary eutectic Al–Mg2Si–Si, and iron-bearing phases. The addition of 0.05 wt% Ca resulted in significant microstructure refinement. In addition to refinement, lamellar to fibrous-type modification of binary eutectic Al–Mg2Si phases was also achieved in Ca-added (modified) alloy. This modification was related to increasing Ca-based intermetallics/compounds in the modified alloy that acted as nucleation sites for binary eutectic Al–Mg2Si phases. The dendritic refinement with Ca addition was related to the fact that it improves the efficacy of Ti-based particles (TiAl3 and TiB2) in the melt to act as nucleation sites. In contrast, the occupation of oxide bifilms by Ca-based phases is expected to force the iron-bearing phases (as iron-bearing phases nucleate at oxide films) to solidify at lower temperatures, thus reducing their size. The as-cast microstructure of these alloys was further modified by subjecting them to solution treatment at 540 °C for 6 h, which broke the eutectic structure and redistributed Mg2Si and Si phases in Al-matrix. Subsequent aging treatment caused a dramatic increase in the tensile strength of these alloys, and tensile strength of 291 MPa (with El% of 0.45%) and 327 MPa (with El% of 0.76%) was achieved for the unmodified alloy and modified alloy, respectively. Higher tensile strength and elongation of the modified alloy than unmodified alloy was attributed to refined dendritic structure and modified second phases.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the sintering process of Al2O3–SiO2–ZrO2 ceramics. The studied method was electroconsolidation with directly applied electric current. This method provides substantial improvements to the mechanical properties of the sintered samples compared to the traditional sintering in the air. The research covered elemental and phase analysis of the samples, which revealed phase transition of high-alumina solid solutions into mullite and corundum. Zirconia was represented mainly by tetragonal phase, but monoclinic phase was present, too. Electroconsolidation enabled samples to reach a density of 3.0 g/cm3 at 1300 °C, while the sample prepared by traditional sintering method obtained it only at 1700 °C. For the composite Al2O3—20 wt.% SiO2—10 wt.% ZrO2 fabricated by electroconsolidation, it was demonstrated that fracture toughness was higher by 20–30%, and hardness was higher by 15–20% compared to that of samples sintered traditionally. Similarly, the samples fabricated by electroconsolidation exhibited elastic modulus E higher by 15–20%. The hypothesis was proposed that the difference in mechanical and physical properties could be attributed to the peculiarities of phase formation processes during electroconsolidation.  相似文献

TiB2-based ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) were fabricated using elemental powders of Ti, B and C. The self-propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS) was carried out for the highly exothermic “in situ” reaction of TiB2 formation and the “tailing” synthesis of boron carbide characterized by weak exothermicity. Two series of samples were fabricated, one of them being prepared with additional milling of raw materials. The effects of TiB2 vol fraction as well as grain size of reactant were investigated. The results revealed that combustion was not successful for a TiB2:B4C molar ratio of 0.96, which corresponds to 40 vol% of TiB2 in the composite, however the SHS reaction was initiated and self-propagated for the intended TiB2:B4C molar ratio of 2.16 or above. Finally B13C2 was formed as the matrix phase in each composite. Significant importance of the grain size of the C precursor with regard to the reaction completeness, which affected the microstructure homogeneity and hardness of investigated composites, was proved in this study. The grain size of Ti powder did not influence the microstructure of TiB2 grains. The best properties (HV = 25.5 GPa, average grain size of 9 μm and homogenous microstructure), were obtained for material containing 80 vol% of TiB2, fabricated using a graphite precursor of 2 μm.  相似文献

To meet aero-engine aluminum skirt requirements, an experiment was carried out using Al–Nb–B2O3–CuO as the reaction system and a 6063 aluminum alloy melt as the reaction medium for a contact reaction, and 6063 aluminum matrix composites containing in situ particles were prepared with the near-liquid-phase line-casting method after the reaction was completed. The effects of the reactant molar ratio and the preheating temperature on the in situ reaction process and products were explored in order to determine the influence of in situ-reaction-product features on the organization and the qualities of the composites. Thermodynamic calculations, DSC analysis, and experiments revealed that the reaction could continue when the molar ratio of the reactants of Al–Nb–B2O3–CuO was 6:1:1:1.5. A kinetic study revealed that the Al thermal reaction in the system produced Al2O3 and [B], and the [B] atoms interacted with Nb to generate NbB2. With increasing temperature, the interaction between the Nb and the AlB2 produced hexagonal NbB2 particles with an average longitudinal size of 1 μm and subspherical Al2O3 particles with an average longitudinal size of 0.2 μm. The microstructure of the composites was reasonably fine, with an estimated equiaxed crystal size of around 22 μm, a tensile strength of 170 MPa, a yield strength of 135 MPa, an elongation of 13.4%, and a fracture energy of 17.05 × 105 KJ/m3, with a content of 2.3 wt% complex-phase particles. When compared to the matrix alloy without addition, the NbB2 and Al2O3 particles produced by the in situ reaction had a significant refinement effect on the microstructure of the alloy, and the plasticity of the composite in the as-cast state was improved while maintaining higher strength and better overall mechanical properties, allowing for industrial mass production.  相似文献

Mg–Gd–Y–Zr alloy was subjected to torsion of various strain levels at room temperature. Obvious traces of basal slip were observed in the twisted alloy. Dislocations of <c+a> were also observed, but there were no signs of significant sliding. Even in the sample whose equivalent strain became 0.294, 101¯0 twinning and 101¯2 twinning were rarely seen. The deformation mode with predominant basal <a> dislocations and subordinate <c+a> dislocations resulted in a modified Y fiber texture with a basal pole slightly dispersed at about 70° from the twist axis. Mechanical tests revealed that the tensile strength and compressive strengths increased simultaneously after twisting.  相似文献

In this study, we have developed a self-cleaning transparent coating on a glass substrate by dip coating a TiO2 – KH550 – PEG mixed solution with super-hydrophilicity and good antifogging properties. The fabrication of the thin-film-coated glass is a one-step solution blending method that is performed by depositing only one layer of modified TiO2 nanoparticles at room temperature. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to determine the structure and morphology of the nanoparticles and the thin-film-coated glass. The surface functional groups were investigated using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and the optical properties of the glass coating were measured using a UV/Vis spectrometer. The results revealed that the KH-500-modified TiO2 film coating was in an anatase crystalline form. The hydrophilicity of the coated and uncoated glass substrates was observed by measuring their water contact angle (WCA) using a contact angle instrument. The maximum transparency of the coated glass measured in the visible region (380–780 nm) was approximately 70%, and it possessed excellent super-hydrophilic properties (WCA ~0°) at an annealing temperature of 350 °C without further need of UV or plasma treatment. These results demonstrate the super-hydrophilic coated glass surface has potential for use in self-cleaning and anti-fogging applications.  相似文献

The fabricated Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloy build has low mechanical properties due to the dissolution of strengthening precipitates back into the matrix during friction stir additive manufacturing (FSAM). Post-fabricated aging was considered an effective approach to improve the mechanical performance of the build. In this study, various post-fabricated aging treatments were applied in the underwater FSAM of Al–7.5 Zn–1.85 Mg–1.3 Cu–0.135 Zr alloy. The effect of the post-fabricated aging on the microstructure, microhardness, and local tensile properties of the build was investigated. The results indicated that over-aging occurred in the low hardness zone (LHZ) of the build after artificial aging at 120 °C for 24 h as the high density of grain boundaries, subgrain boundaries, dislocations, and Al3Zr particles facilitated the precipitation. Low-temperature aging treatment can effectively avoid the over-aging problem. After aging at 100 °C for 48 h, the average microhardness value of the build reached 178 HV; the yield strength of the LHZ and high hardness zone (HHZ) was 453 MPa and 463 MPa, respectively; and the ultimate tensile strength of the LHZ and HHZ increased to 504 MPa and 523 MPa, respectively.  相似文献

AuSn and AuSn2 thin films (5 nm) were used as precursors during the formation of semiconducting metal oxide nanostructures on a silicon substrate. The nanoparticles were produced in the processes of annealing and oxidation of gold–tin intermetallic compounds under ultra-high vacuum conditions. The formation process and morphology of a mixture of SnO2 and Au@SnOx (the core–shell structure) nanoparticles or Au nanocrystalites were carefully examined by means of spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) combined with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The annealing and oxidation of the thin film of the AuSn intermetallic compound led to the formation of uniformly distributed structures with a size of ∼20–30 nm. All of the synthesized nanoparticles exhibited a strong absorption band at 520–530 nm, which is typical for pure metallic or metal oxide systems.  相似文献

This study presents new findings related to the incorporation of MXene phases into ceramic. Aluminium oxide and synthesised Ti3C2 were utilised as starting materials. Knowing the tendency of MXenes to oxidation and degradation, particularly at higher temperatures, structural modifications were proposed. They consisted of creating the metallic layer on the Ti3C2, by sputtering the titanium or molybdenum. To prepare the composites, powder metallurgy and spark plasma sintering (SPS) techniques were adopted. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the applied modifications, the emphasis of the research was placed on microstructural analysis. In addition, the mechanical properties of the obtained sinters were examined. Observations revealed significant changes in the MXenes degradation process, from porous areas with TiC particles (for unmodified Ti3C2), to in situ creation of graphitic carbon (in the case of Ti3C2-Ti/Mo). Moreover, the fracture changed from purely intergranular to cracking with high participation of transgranular mode, analogously. In addition, the results obtained showed an improvement in the mechanical properties for composites with Ti/Mo modifications (an increase of 10% and 15% in hardness and fracture toughness respectively, for specimens with 0.5 wt.% Ti3C2-Mo). For unmodified Ti3C2, enormously cracked areas with spatters emerged during tests, making the measurements impossible to perform.  相似文献

The quantitative study of rare earth compounds is important for the improvement of existing magnesium alloy systems and the design of new magnesium alloys. In this paper, the effective separation of matrix and compound in Mg–Zn–Ce–Zr alloy was achieved by a low-temperature chemical phase separation technique. The mass fraction of the (Mg, Zn)12Ce compound was determined and the effect of the (Mg, Zn)12Ce phase content on the heat deformation organization and properties was investigated. The results show that the Mg–Zn–Ce compound in both the as-cast and the homogeneous alloys is (Mg, Zn)12Ce. (Mg, Zn)12Ce phase formation depends on the content and the ratio of Zn and Ce elements in the initial residual melt of the eutectic reaction. The Zn/Ce mass ratios below 2.5 give the highest compound contents for different Zn contents, 5.262 wt.% and 7.040 wt.%, respectively. The increase in the amount of the (Mg, Zn)12Ce phase can significantly reduce the critical conditions for dynamic recrystallization formation. Both the critical strain and the stress decrease with increasing rare earth content. The reduction of the critical conditions and the particle-promoted nucleation mechanism work together to increase the amount of dynamic recrystallization. In addition, it was found that alloys with 6 wt.% Zn elements tend to undergo a dynamic recrystallization softening mechanism, while alloys with 3 wt.% Zn elements tend to undergo a dynamic reversion softening mechanism.  相似文献

In this paper, we used differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), high-temperature X-ray diffraction (HT-XRD), and confocal scanning laser microscopy (CSLM) to investigate the Li2O–Al2O3–SiO2 glass crystallization process. At 943 K, lithium disilicate (Li2Si2O5) phase crystals began to precipitate in the Li2O–Al2O3–SiO2 glass with a crystal size of 50–70 nm. At the temperature of 1009 K, petalite (LiAlSi4O10) crystals began to precipitate in the vitreous phase, forming composite spherical crystals of LiAlSi4O10 and Li2Si2O5 with size in the range of 90–130 nm. Furthermore, the Kissinger method and KAS method of the JMAK model were used to calculate the crystallization activation energy and the Avrami index “n”. It was found that the precipitation mechanism of the two kinds of crystals is whole crystallization; accordingly, the selection of crystallization heat treatment system was guided to determine the nucleation and crystallization temperature.  相似文献
