The internally cured material known as superabsorbent polymer (SAP) is an important innovation in concrete engineering technology. This paper investigates the effect of adding a polymer with superabsorbent capabilities on the physical and mechanical performance of concrete. The microstructure of the new hybrid concrete was also studied, and the influence of the polymer particle size and volume on the mechanical durability was evaluated. The mechanical properties of the new hybrid concrete, such as compressive strength, flexural strength, elastic modulus, and splitting tensile strength, were measured through laboratory experiments. The microstructure characteristics of the concrete were also investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that shrinkage was reduced, while the volume stability of the concrete improved. Moreover, we found that cracking was reduced, while issues such as chloride penetration and freeze-thaw resistance were also improved. In addition, the SAP could effectively improve the microstructure of the concrete and refine the pore structure, as seen in the microscopic test. This paper helps to promote the development of internally cured material and improve technology for the prevention of concrete construction cracks.  相似文献

Pervious concrete is an eco-efficient concrete but has problems regarding its mechanical performance and permeability balance. This research investigated the feasibility of using a combination of styrene–butadiene rubber (SBR) and acrylate polymer to improve the toughness of pervious concrete while keeping its permeability. Single-sized aggregate and no sand were considered in the concrete mixture. Acrylate polymers with different solid content, PH, density, and viscosity were emulsion copolymerized with an SBR polymer. Eleven scenarios with different mix proportions and 220 specimens for compressive strength, flexural strength, flexural stiffness, impact resistance, and fracture toughness tests were selected to evaluate the effects of the copolymer on the toughness of copolymer-modified pervious concrete (CMPC). The studies showed that (1) the influence trend of the copolymers generally varied according to different mechanical indexes; (2) XG–6001 acrylate polymer mainly and comprehensively enhanced the toughness of the CMPC; (3) it was difficult to increase the enhancing property of the XG–6001 acrylate polymer with the growth of its mix proportion; (4) the zero-sand pervious concrete with 90% SBR and 10% XG–6001 acrylate emulsion copolymerization proved to have relatively high toughness. The proposed CMPC holds promising application value in sustainability traffic road construction.  相似文献

The annual worldwide production rate of waste glass is a million tons; the waste glass is non-biodegradable, resulting in environmental pollution. However, the chemical composition of waste glass (WG) is promoted to be used as a partial substitution of binding or filler (aggregate) material in concrete production. Although significant research has been conducted in this area, the results of these studies are scattered, and it is difficult to judge the suitability of waste glass in concrete. This review looks at the effects of waste glass on concrete’s fresh, mechanical, and durability properties. It concludes that waste glass decreased the flowability of concrete. Furthermore, waste glass can be used as pozzolanic material, creating secondary cementitious compound (CSH) gel. CSH gel increased the cement paste’s binding properties, leading to increased mechanical performance. Moreover, this study reveals that the optimum dose of waste glass is important to minimize the possibility of an alkali–silica reactions. Based on this review, most researchers conclude that 20% substitution of waste glass as binding material is the optimum dose. The wide range of discussion provides the necessary guideline for the best research practice in the future.  相似文献

The sustainability of the construction sector demands the reduction of CO2 emissions. The optimization of the amount of cement in concrete can be achieved either by partially replacing it by additions or by reducing the binder content. The present work aims at optimizing the properties of concrete used in the production of reinforced concrete poles for electrical distribution lines, combining the maximization of compactness with the partial replacement of cement by fly ash, natural pozzolans, and electric furnace slags. Natural aggregates were also partially replaced by recycled ones in mixtures with fly ash. Two types of concrete were studied: a fresh molded one with a dry consistency and a formwork molded one with a plastic consistency. The following properties were characterized: mechanical properties (flexural, tensile splitting, and compressive strengths, as well as Young’s modulus) and durability properties (capillary water absorption, water penetration depth under pressure, resistance to carbonation, chloride migration, and concrete surface resistivity). The service life of structures was estimated, taking the deterioration of reinforcement induced by concrete carbonation or chloride attack into account. Results revealed that mixtures with fly ash exhibit higher mechanical performance and mixtures with fly ash or pozzolans reveal much higher durability results than the full Portland cement-based mixtures.  相似文献

Coal gasification coarse slag (CGCS) is a by-product of coal gasification. Despite its abundance, CGCS is mostly used in boiler blending, stacking, and landfill. Large-scale industrial applications of CGCS can be environment-friendly and cost saving. In this study, the application of CGCS as a substitute for river sand (RS) with different replacement ratios in ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) was investigated. The effects of CGCS replacement ratios on the fluidity and mechanical properties of specimens were examined, and the effect mechanisms were explored on the basis of hydration products and the multi-scale (millimetre-scale and micrometre-scale) microstructure analysis obtained through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray energy-dispersive spectroscopy. With an increase in the CGCS replacement ratio, the water–binder ratio (w/b), flexural strength, and compressive strength decreased. Specimens containing CGCS of ≤25% can satisfy the strength requirement of non-structural UHPC, with flexure strength of 29 MPa and compressive strength of 111 MPa at day 28. According to the XRD results and multi-scale microstructure analysis, amorphous glass beads in CGCS positively influenced ettringite generation due to the pozzolanic activity. Porous carbon particles in CGCS showed strong interfacial bonding with cement slurry due to internal hydration; this bonding was conducive to improving the mechanical strength. However, CGCS hindered hydration in the later curing stage, leading to an increase in the unreacted cement and agglomeration of fly ash; in addition, at a CGCS replacement ratio of up to 50%, an apparent interfacial transition zone structure was observed, which was the main contributor to mechanical strength deterioration.  相似文献

The wastewater from ready-mixed concrete plants is currently being recycled as concrete mixing water. It has attracted significant attention from the construction industry and researchers since it promotes sustainable development through environmental protection, energy-saving, and emissions reduction. This article review first introduces the nature of wastewater in ready-mixed concrete plants in different regions. Then the effects of solid content in water on various properties of concrete, including working performance, durability and microscopic properties, are reviewed, respectively, when concrete is mixed with wastewater instead of tap water. Furthermore, the microscopic mechanism of action in concrete mixing with wastewater is discussed, and future work is recommended. This review provides fundamentals on the study of the properties of concrete after wastewater is mixed into concrete.  相似文献

Under corrosive environments, concrete material properties can deteriorate significantly, which can seriously affect structural safety. Therefore, it has important engineering applications to improve the durability performance at a lower economic cost. This paper proposes a new, highly durable concrete using inexpensive construction materials such as basalt fiber, sodium methyl silicate, and inorganic aluminum salt waterproofing agent. With the massive application of sewage treatment projects, the problem of concrete durability degradation is becoming more and more serious. In this paper, five types of concrete are developed for the sewage environment, and the apparent morphology and fine structure of the specimens after corrosion in sewage were analyzed. The density, water absorption, and compressive strength were measured to investigate the deterioration pattern of concrete properties. It was found that ordinary concrete was subject to significant corrosion, generating large deposits of algae on the surface and accompanied by sanding. The new concrete showed superior corrosion resistance compared to conventional concrete. Among other factors, the inorganic aluminum salt waterproofing agent effect was the most prominent. The study found that the strength of ordinary concrete decreased by about 15% in the test environment, while the new concrete had a slight increase. Comprehensive evaluation showed that the combination of basalt fiber and inorganic aluminum salt waterproofing agent had the best effect. Its use is recommended.  相似文献

This study evaluated the mechanical properties and durability performance of latex-modified hybrid fiber-reinforced roller-compacted rapid-set cement concrete (LMHFRCRSC) for emergency repair of concrete pavement. Experimental parameters included the blend ratio of the hybrid fiber, which comprised natural jute fiber (0–0.2 vol.%) and structural synthetic fiber (0–2 vol.%). The mechanical performance of LMHFRCRSC of various blend ratios was evaluated in terms of compressive, flexural, and splitting tensile strength. Durability assessment included chlorine ion penetration and abrasion resistance measurements. Compressive and flexural strength values of 21 and 3.5 MPa, respectively, were the set targets after 4 h of curing; a compressive strength of 35 MPa, a flexural strength of 4.5 MPa, a splitting tensile strength of 4.2 MPa, and chloride ion penetration of 2000 C or less were required after 28 days of curing. Our test results confirmed that all mix proportions satisfied the target values, regardless of the blend ratio of the hybrid fiber. Specifically, the mechanical performance of the concrete improved as the blend ratio of the structural synthetic fiber increased. With regard to durability, a greater amount of jute fiber, a hydrophilic fiber, enhanced the concrete’s durability. Additionally, incorporating jute fiber of 0.6 kg/m3 provided excellent chlorine ion penetration resistance. The optimal blend ratio for the hybrid fiber was natural jute fiber at 0.6 kg/m3 and structural synthetic fiber at 13.65 kg/m3 (mix: J0.6 + P13.65); with this mix proportion, a chloride ion penetration amount of 1000 C or less and maximum mechanical performance were achieved.  相似文献

The push for sustainability in the construction sector has demanded the use of increasingly renewable resources. These natural fibers are biodegradable and non-toxic, and their mechanical capabilities are superior to those of synthetic fibers in terms of strength and durability. A lot of research recommends coconut fibers as an alternative to synthetic fibers. However, the knowledge is scattered, and no one can easily judge the suitability of coconut fibers in concrete. This paper presents a summary of research progress on coconut fiber (natural fibers) reinforced concrete. The effects of coconut fibers on the properties of concrete are reviewed. Factors affecting the fresh, hardened, and durability properties of concrete reinforced with coconut fiber are discussed. Results indicate that coconut fiber improved the mechanical performance of concrete due to crack prevention, similar to the synthetic fibers but decreased the flowability of concrete. However, coconut fibers improved flexure strength more effectively than compressive strength. Furthermore, improvement in some durability performance was also observed, but less information is available in this regard. Moreover, the optimum dose is an important parameter for high-strength concrete. The majority of researchers indicate that 3.0% coconut fiber is the optimum dose. The overall study demonstrates that coconut fibers have the creditability to be used in concrete instead of synthetic fibers.  相似文献

Concrete sulfate attack is of great interest as it represents one of the main reasons of concrete deterioration and poor durability for concrete structures. In this research, the effect of different cement types on concrete sulfate resistance was investigated. This included three concrete classes, namely, low strength concrete, medium strength concrete, and high strength concrete. Blast furnace cement (BFC), sulfate resisting Portland cement (CEM I-SR5), and ordinary Portland cement (OPC) were used in a total of eighteen concrete mixes. Three binder contents of 250 kg/m3, 350 kg/m3, and 450 kg/m3 and a constant silica fume (SF) content were applied in this experimental study. The water/binder (w/b) ratio was varied between 0.4 and 0.8. Concrete specimens were immersed in highly severe effective sodium sulfate solutions (10,000 ppm) for 180 days after standard curing for 28 days. The fresh concrete performance was evaluated through a slump test to attain proper workability. Concrete compressive strength and mass change at 28 days and 180 days were measured before and after immersion in the solution to evaluate the long-term effect of sulfate attack on the proposed concrete durability. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis was conducted to study the concrete microstructure and its deterioration stages. The obtained results revealed that BFC cement has the best resistance to aggressive sulfate attacks. The strength deterioration of BFC cement was 3.5% with w/b of 0.4 and it increased to about 7.8% when increasing the w/b ratio to 0.6, which are comparable to other types of cement used. The findings of this research confirmed that the quality of concrete, specifically its composition of low permeability, is the best and recommended protection against sulfate attack.  相似文献

To study the effect of SAP incorporation on the early shrinkage of SAP internally cured concrete with the aim to solve the problems of early shrinkage and cracking of bridge leveling-layer concrete, using the SAP incorporation method as a parameter, the mechanical properties test of internally cured concrete, the shrinkage performance test of ring restraint and the scanning electron microscope observation test were carried out. The effects of the SAP content and incorporation method on the flowability, mechanical properties, shrinkage performance and microstructure of internally cured concrete were analyzed. The experimental results show that when the content of the SAP in concrete is 0.2% of the mass of cementitious materials, it has the least influence on the compressive strength of concrete. The addition of preabsorbed water to the SAP can delay early cement hydration, increase the later cement hydration rate and final hydration degree, and improve the concrete strength. Preabsorbed water mixed with an SAP can effectively improve the shrinkage of concrete, and the shrinkage reduction effect is more obvious than that from the dry addition of the SAP; the early cracking risk of concrete without an SAP is high, and it will crack before day 28. The addition of an SAP can strengthen the microstructure of concrete and improve its density and crack resistance, effectively avoiding concrete cracking. It is recommended that the water-absorbent resin be incorporated in a preabsorbent manner, and the SAP preabsorbent ratio is equal to the maximum water storage rate of the SAP.  相似文献

Polymer-modified concrete and fiber concrete are two excellent paving materials that improve the performance of some concrete, but the performance of single application material is still limited. In this paper, polymer-modified concrete with strong deformation and fiber concrete with obvious crack resistance and reinforcement effect were compounded by using the idea of composite material design so as to obtain a high-performance pavement material. The basic mechanical properties of high-content hybrid fiber–polymer-modified concrete, such as workability, compression, flexural resistance, and environmental durability (such as sulfate resistance) were studied by using the test regulations of cement concrete in China. The main results were as follows. (1) The hybrid fiber–polymer concrete displayed reliable working performance, high stiffness, and a modulus of elasticity as high as 35.93 GPa. (2) The hybrid fiber–polymer concrete had a compressive strength of 52.82 MPa, which was 31.2% higher than that of the plain C40 concrete (40.25 MPa); the strength of bending of the hybrid concrete was 11.51 MPa, 191.4% higher than that of the plain concrete (3.95 MPa). (3) The corrosion resistance value of the hybrid fiber–polymer concrete was 81.31%, indicating its adjustability to sulfate attack environments. (4) According to cross-sectional scanning electron microscope (SEM) images, the hybrid fiber–polymer concrete was seemingly more integrated with a dense layer of cementing substance on its surface along with fewer microholes and microcracks as when compared to the ordinary concrete. The research showed that hybrid fiber–polymer concrete had superior strength and environmental erosion resistance and was a pavement material with superior mechanical properties.  相似文献

One commonly used cement type for thermal applications is CAC containing 38–40% alumina, although the postheated behavior of this cement subjected to elevated temperature has not been studied yet. Here, through extensive experimentation, the postheated mineralogical and physicochemical features of calcium aluminate cement concrete (CACC) were examined via DTA/TGA, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging and the variation in the concrete physical features and the compressive strength deterioration with temperature rise were examined through ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) values. In addition, other mechanical features that were addressed were the residual tensile strength and elastic modulus. According to the XRD test results, with the temperature rise, the dehydration of the C3AH6 structure occurred, which, in turn, led to the crystallization of the monocalcium dialuminate (CA2) and alumina (Al2O3) structures. The SEM images indicated specific variations in morphology that corresponded to concrete deterioration due to heat.  相似文献

The need for low-cost raw materials is driven by the fact that iron ore tailings, a prevalent kind of hazardous solid waste, have created major environmental issues. Although many studies have focused on using iron ore tailing (IOT) in concrete and have reported positive results, readers may find it difficult to accurately assess the behaviors of IOT in concrete due to the scattered nature of the information. Therefore, a comprehensive assessment of IOT in concrete is necessary. This paper thoroughly reviews the characteristics of concrete that contains IOT such as fresh properties, mechanical properties and durability at different age of curing. The outcome of this review indicates that by using IOT, concrete’s mechanical properties and durability improved, but its flowability decreased. Compressive strength of concrete with 20% substitution of IOT is 14% more than reference concrete. Furthermore, up to 40% substitution of IOT produces concrete that has sufficient flowability and compactability. Scan electronic microscopy results indicate a weak interfacial transition zone (ITZ). The optimum IOT dosage is important since a greater dose may decrease the strength properties and durability owing to a lack of fluidity. Depending on the physical and chemical composition of IOT, the average value of optimum percentages ranges from 30 to 40%. The assessment also recommends areas of unsolved research for future investigations.  相似文献

The application of concrete containing mineral admixtures was attempted in Northwest China in this study, where the environment has the characteristics of low humidity and large temperature variation. The harsh environment was simulated by using an environmental chamber in the laboratory and four types of concrete were prepared, including ordinary concrete and three kinds of mineral admixture concretes with different contents of fly ash and blast-furnace slag. These concretes were cured in the environmental chamber according to the real curing conditions during construction. The compression strength, fracture properties, SEM images, air-void characteristics, and X-ray diffraction features were researched at the early ages of curing before 28 d. The results showed that the addition of fly ash and slag can improve the compression strength and fracture properties of concrete in the environment of low humidity and large temperature variation. The optimal mixing of mineral admixture was 10% fly ash and 20% slag by replacing the cement in concrete, which can improve the compression strength, initial fracture toughness, unstable fracture toughness, and fracture energy by 23.9%, 25.2%, 45.3%, and 22.6%, respectively, compared to ordinary concrete. Through the analysis of the microstructure of concrete, the addition of fly ash and slag can weaken the negative effects of the harsh environment of low humidity and large temperature variation on concrete microstructure and cement hydration.  相似文献

Plastic electronic waste (E-waste) is constantly growing around the world owing to the rapid increase in industrialization, urbanization, and population. The current annual production rate of E-waste is 3–4% in the world and is expected to increase to 55 million tons per year by 2025. To reduce the detrimental impact on the environment and save natural resources, one of the best solutions is to incorporate waste plastic in the construction industry to produce green concrete. This study examines the use of manufactured plastic coarse aggregate (PCA) obtained from E-waste as a partial replacement of natural coarse aggregate (NCA) in concrete. Six types of concrete mix with 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% substitution of NCA (by volume) with PCA are prepared and tested. This study investigates the effect of manufactured PCA on the fresh and hardened characteristics of concrete. The properties of recycled plastic aggregate concrete (RPAC) studied include workability, fresh density, dry density, compressive strength (CS), splitting tensile strength (STS), flexural strength (FS), sorptivity coefficient, abrasion resistance, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), and alternate wetting and drying (W–D). The results indicate that the CS, STS, and FS of RPAC declined in the range of 9.9–52.7%, 7.8–47.5%, and 11–39.4%, respectively, for substitution ratios of 10–50%. However, the results also indicate that the incorporation of PCA (10–50%) improved the workability and durability characteristics of concrete. A significant decrement in the sorptivity coefficient, abrasion loss, and UPV value was observed with an increasing amount of PCA. Furthermore, RPAC containing different percentages of PCA revealed better results against alternate W–D cycles with respect to ordinary concrete.  相似文献

The materials based on concrete with an addition of rubber are well-known. The interaction between concrete components and rubber particles is in the majority cases insufficient. For this reason, different substances are introduced into concrete-rubber systems. The aim of this paper is to establish the influence of five different polymer additives, i.e., 1. an aqueous dispersion of a styrene-acrylic ester copolymer (silanised) (ASS), 2. water dispersion of styrene-acrylic copolymer (AS), 3. anionic copolymer of acrylic acid ester and styrene in the form of powder (AS.RDP), 4. water polymer dispersion produced from the vinyl acetate and ethylene monomers (EVA), 5. copolymer powder of vinyl acetate and ethylene (EVA.RDP)) on the properties of the self-leveling rubberised concrete. Scanning electron microscopy has allowed to establish the interaction between the cement paste and rubber aggregates. Moreover, the compressive strength and flexural strength of the studied materials were evaluated. The results indicate that the mechanical properties depend extensively on the type as well as the amount of the polymer additive introduced into the system.  相似文献

Several recent studies have attempted to formulate printable cementitious materials to meet the printing requirements, but these materials are designed to work with specific printing equipment and printing configurations. This paper aims to systematically develop and perform characterization of a commercially available ultra-high-performance concrete-class material (UHPC) modified to be printable. Four percentages of superplasticizer were used (100%, 94%, 88%, 82%) to adjust the UHPC mixture for 3D-printing requirements. A superplasticizer amount of 88% was considered adequate to meet the requirements. Several fresh and hardened properties of UHPC were measured experimentally: shape-retention ability and green strength were investigated in fresh state, and compressive and flexural strength were evaluated in three loading directions to evaluate the anisotropic effects. Furthermore, the strength of the interlayer bond was investigated. The UHPC developed in this study met the criteria for extrudability, buildability, and shape retention to ensure printability. In comparison with mold-cast UHPC, printed UHPC exhibited superior flexural performance (15–18%), but reduced compressive strength (32–56%). Finally, the results demonstrated that a commercially available UHPC-class material can be used for 3DCP, which possesses all necessary properties, both fresh and hardened.  相似文献

Cement-emulsified asphalt mixture (CEAM), a kind of cold mix asphalt mixture, has the advantages of energy conservation and emission reduction as well as easy construction. However, the performance of CEAM is not as good as hot mixed asphalt mixtures. Hence, in this study, two different fibers were adopted as the reinforcing phase to improve the comprehensive properties of CEAM. The results indicated that the addition proportion and curing time were crucial to fiber-reinforced cement-emulsified asphalt mixture (FRCEAM). The compressive strengths, water stability, and raveling resistances of FRCEAM preparations with polyester or brucite fibers (FRCEAM-PF and -BF, respectively) were enhanced significantly. FRCEAM-PF had the maximum flexural tensile strength and strain, which meant that its low-temperature performance was the best compared to FRCEAM-PF and CEAM. However, the contribution of PF to CEAM high-temperature stability was greater than that of BF. Fiber addition to CEAM not only enhanced the cycles of fatigue loading but also reduced sensitivity to changes in stress level. Furthermore, FRCEAM-BF durability was slightly better than that of FRCEAM-PF. SEM analysis indicated that fibers provided bridging and meshing effects. Although PF and BF showed different enhancement effects, both mixtures met the requirements for hot mixed asphalt mixtures.  相似文献

Despite extensive research studies, recycled aggregates and worn-out tyres of motor vehicles are still not fully reused and are hence disposed of in ways that are damaging to the environment. Several studies have been carried out on recycled aggregate and rubberized concrete, but very limited studies are conducted on rubber recycled aggregate concrete. This study focuses on the workability, mechanical properties and durability performance of concrete made with 100% recycled aggregates and crumb rubber at different replacement level (5%, 10%, 15% and 20%). The first stage of the study covers the effect of incorporating crumb rubber at different concentration on the workability and mechanical properties of recycled aggregate concrete. The results revealed that the workability and mechanical properties of the recycled aggregate concrete can be used for structural applications when 5% of crumb rubber are used to replace recycled aggregates. The 28-days compressive strength of the rubberized recycled aggregate concrete with 5% crumb rubber concentration is reduced by 21.1% and 32.8% when compared to recycled aggregate concrete and control concrete, respectively. The second stage of the study assesses the durability performance of the recycled aggregate concrete with 5% crumb rubber concentration. The 5% crumb rubber content for durability tests was considered because the ultrasonic pulse velocity tests revealed that the quality of the recycled aggregate concrete is questionable if the concentration of crumb rubber particles is beyond 5%. The durability performance using the surface resistivity test also shows that the chloride ion penetration of recycled aggregates concrete with 5% crumb rubber replacement is moderate using air dried curing technique and high using the water bath curing method. Hence the study suggests the use of rubber recycled aggregate concrete for applications were the exposure condition is not extreme.  相似文献
