Gd and Yb elements have high chemical stability, which can stabilize the solid solution in ZrO2. Gd2O3 and Yb2O3 have high melting points, and good oxidation resistance in extreme environments, stable chemical properties. Therefore, Gd2O3 and Yb2O3 were added to ZrO2 to stabilize oxides, improve the high temperature stability, and effectively decrease the thermal conductivity at high temperature. In this work, 5 wt% Yb2O3 and 5 wt%, 10 wt%, 15 wt% Gd2O3 were doped into 8 wt% Y2O3 stabilized ZrO2 (8YSZ) powders as thermal barrier coating materials, and sintered at 1650 °C for 6 h, 12 h, 24 h. The effects of Gd2O3 addition on the microstructure, density, thermal conductivity, hardness, and fracture toughness of Gd2O3-Yb2O3-Y2O3-ZrO2 (GYYZO) bulk composite ceramics were investigated. It was found that the densification of the 8YSZ bulk and GYYZO bulk with 15 wt% Gd2O3 reached 96.89% and 96.22% sintered at 1650 °C for 24 h. With the increase of Gd2O3 addition, the hardness, elastic modulus and fracture toughness of the GYYZO bulk increased and the thermal conductivity and thermal expansion coefficient of the GYYZO bulk decreased. GYYZO bulk with 15 wt% Gd2O3 sintered at 1650 °C for 24h had the highest hardness, elastic modulus and fracture toughness of 15.61 GPa, 306.88 GPa, 7.822 MPa·m0.5, and the lowest thermal conductivity and thermal expansion coefficient of 1.04 W/(m·k) and 7.89 × 10−6/°C at 1100 °C, respectively. The addition of Gd2O3 into YSZ could not only effectively reduce the thermal conductivity but also improve the mechanical properties, which would improve the thermal barrier coatings’ performances further.  相似文献

Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) is well-known as a material with perfect mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. It is used for manufacturing various high-temperature components for aerospace and energy generation, as well as wear- and corrosion-resistant devices in medicine. This work investigated the effect of a Y2O3 addition to ZrO2 on the microstructure and mechanical properties of YSZ ceramics produced by one sintering schedule. ZrO2 ceramics doped with 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 mol% Y2O3 (designated 3YSZ through to 8YSZ) were prepared by using conventional sintering at 1550 °C for 2 h in argon. The effect of yttria content was analyzed with respect to grain size, morphology of the microstructural features, phase composition, parameters of fracture surface, and flexural strength. The 7YSZ ceramics sintered at 1550 °C for 2 h showed the highest level of flexural strength due to the formation of the fine-grained microstructure containing mainly the monoclinic and tetragonal zirconia phases. The fracture micromechanism in the studied YSZ ceramics is discussed.  相似文献

It is known that the yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) material has superior thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties. This material is used for manufacturing products and components of air heaters, hydrogen reformers, cracking furnaces, fired heaters, etc. This work is aimed at searching for the optimal sintering mode of YSZ ceramics that provides a high crack growth resistance. Beam specimens of ZrO2 ceramics doped with 6, 7, and 8 mol% Y2O3 (hereinafter: 6YSZ, 7YSZ, and 8YSZ) were prepared using a conventional sintering technique. Four sintering temperatures (1450 °C, 1500 °C, 1550 °C, and 1600 °C) were used for the 6YSZ series and two sintering temperatures (1550 °C and 1600 °C) were used for the 7YSZ and 8YSZ series. The series of sintered specimens were ground and polished to reach a good surface quality. Several mechanical tests of the materials were performed, namely, the microhardness test, fracture toughness test by the indentation method, and single-edge notch beam (SENB) test under three-point bending. Based on XRD analysis, the phase balance (percentages of tetragonal, cubic, and monoclinic ZrO2 phases) of each composition was substantiated. The morphology of the fracture surfaces of specimens after both the fracture toughness tests was studied in relation to the mechanical behavior of the specimens and the microstructure of corresponding materials. SEM-EDX analysis was used for microstructural characterization. It was found that both the yttria percentage and sintering temperature affect the mechanical behavior of the ceramics. Optimal chemical composition and sintering temperature were determined for the studied series of ceramics. The maximum transformation toughening effect was revealed for ZrO2-6 mol% Y2O3 ceramics during indentation. However, in the case of a SENB test, the maximum transformation toughening effect in the crack tip vicinity was found in ZrO2-7 mol% Y2O3 ceramics. The conditions for obtaining YSZ ceramics with high fracture toughness are discussed.  相似文献

The mechanical behavior of 3 mol% Y2O3-ZrO2 ceramic and 21 wt.% Al2O3-3 mol% Y2O3-ZrO2 ceramic composite with submicron grain size was studied. Mechanical properties, such as hardness, Young’s modulus, four-point bending strength, and fracture toughness of both materials were measured. Linear stress-strain deformation behavior of both 3 mol% Y2O3-ZrO2 and 21 wt.% Al2O3-3 mol% Y2O3-ZrO2 was observed in flexure, both at room temperature and at 400 °C. A small deviation from linear elastic deformation was detected in 21 wt.% Al2O3-3 mol% Y2O3-ZrO2 ceramic composite when loaded above a stress of 1500 MPa. Therefore, it was concluded that only elastic deformation occurred at low stresses upon loading, which exclude the presence of domain switching in zirconia upon bending under the loading conditions of this study.  相似文献

In this work, La2Ce2O7-yttria-stabilized zirconia (LC-YSZ) composites with different weight fractions of YSZ (40–70 wt.%) were prepared by hot pressing at 1400 °C and investigated as a material for thermal barrier-coating (TBC) applications. For this purpose, the effect of YSZ addition on the phase composition, microstructure, mechanical performance and thermal behavior was studied. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the LC-YSZ composites were mainly composed of a cubic ZrO2 and La2O3-CeO2-ZrO2 solid solution with a pyrochlore structure, indicating that the reaction between LC and YSZ took place during hot pressing. Scanning electron microscopy revealed the high microstructural stability of the prepared composites, as the pore formation was significantly controlled and a high relative density (>97%) was obtained. The microstructure of LC-YSZ bulk samples was relatively fine-grained, with an average grain size below or very close to 1 µm. YSZ doping improved the Vickers hardness of the LC-YSZ composites; the highest hardness, with value of 12 ± 0.62 GPa, was achieved for the composite containing 70 wt.% of YSZ. The fracture toughness of LC-YSZ composites was in the range from 2.13 to 2.5 MPa·m1/2. No statistically significant difference in heat capacity or thermal conductivity was found between the composites with different content of YSZ. The results showed that LC-YSZ composites have relatively low thermal conductivities from room temperature (1.5–1.8 W·m−1·K−1) up to 1000 °C (2.5–3.0 W·m−1·K−1). This indicates that the prepared LC-YSZ composite materials are promising candidates for TBC applications.  相似文献

In this study, oxide dispersion-strengthened Cu alloy with a Y2O3 content of 1 wt.% was fabricated through citric acid sol-gel synthesis and spark plasma sintering (SPS). The citric acid sol-gel method provides molecular mixing for the preparation of precursor powders, which produces nanoscale and uniformly distributed Y2O3 particles in an ultrafine-grained Cu matrix. The effects of nanoscale Y2O3 particles on the microstructure, mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of the Cu-1wt.%Y2O3 alloy were investigated. The average grain size of the Cu-1wt.%Y2O3 alloy is 0.42 μm, while the average particle size of Y2O3 is 16.4 nm. The unique microstructure provides excellent mechanical properties with a tensile strength of 572 MPa and a total elongation of 6.4%. After annealing at 800 °C for 1 h, the strength of the alloy does not decrease obviously, showing excellent thermal stability. The thermal conductivity of Cu-1wt.%Y2O3 alloy is about 308 Wm−1K−1 at room temperature and it decreases with increasing temperature. The refined grain size, high strength and excellent thermal stability of Cu-1wt.%Y2O3 alloys can be ascribed to the pinning effects of nanoscale Y2O3 particles dispersed in the Cu matrix. The Cu-Y2O3 alloys with high strength and high thermal conductivity have potential applications in high thermal load components of fusion reactors.  相似文献

This work focuses on research on obtaining and characterizing Al2O3/ZrO2 materials formed via slip casting method. The main emphasis in the research was placed on environmental aspects and those related to the practical use of ceramic materials. The goal was to analyze the environmental loads associated with the manufacturing of Al2O3/ZrO2 composites, as well as to determine the coefficient of thermal expansion of the obtained materials, classified as technical ceramics. This parameter is crucial in terms of their practical applications in high-temperature working conditions, e.g., as parts of industrial machines. The study reports on the four series of Al2O3/ZrO2 materials differing in the volume content of ZrO2. The sintering process was preceded by thermogravimetric measurements. The fabricated and sintered materials were characterized by dilatometric study, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and stereological analysis. Further, life cycle assessment was supplied. Based on dilatometric tests, it was observed that Al2O3/ZrO2 composites show a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than that resulting from the content of individual phases. The results of the life cycle analysis showed that the environmental loads (carbon footprint) resulting from the acquisition and processing of raw materials necessary for the production of sinters from Al2O3 and ZrO2 are comparable to those associated with the production of plastic products such as polypropylene or polyvinyl chloride.  相似文献

A series of strontium titanates-vanadates (STVN) with nominal cation composition Sr1-xTi1-y-zVyNizO3-δ (x = 0–0.04, y = 0.20–0.40 and z = 0.02–0.12) were prepared by a solid-state reaction route in 10% H2–N2 atmosphere and characterized under reducing conditions as potential fuel electrode materials for solid oxide fuel cells. Detailed phase evolution studies using XRD and SEM/EDS demonstrated that firing at temperatures as high as 1200 °C is required to eliminate undesirable secondary phases. Under such conditions, nickel tends to segregate as a metallic phase and is unlikely to incorporate into the perovskite lattice. Ceramic samples sintered at 1500 °C exhibited temperature-activated electrical conductivity that showed a weak p(O2) dependence and increased with vanadium content, reaching a maximum of ~17 S/cm at 1000 °C. STVN ceramics showed moderate thermal expansion coefficients (12.5–14.3 ppm/K at 25–1100 °C) compatible with that of yttria-stabilized zirconia (8YSZ). Porous STVN electrodes on 8YSZ solid electrolytes were fabricated at 1100 °C and studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy at 700–900 °C in an atmosphere of diluted humidified H2 under zero DC conditions. As-prepared STVN electrodes demonstrated comparatively poor electrochemical performance, which was attributed to insufficient intrinsic electrocatalytic activity and agglomeration of metallic nickel during the high-temperature synthetic procedure. Incorporation of an oxygen-ion-conducting Ce0.9Gd0.1O2-δ phase (20–30 wt.%) and nano-sized Ni as electrocatalyst (≥1 wt.%) into the porous electrode structure via infiltration resulted in a substantial improvement in electrochemical activity and reduction of electrode polarization resistance by 6–8 times at 900 °C and ≥ one order of magnitude at 800 °C.  相似文献

The present work deals with the evaluation of the effect of ZrO2 on the structure and selected properties of shapes obtained using the centrifugal slip casting method. The samples were made of alumina and zirconia. The applied technology made it possible to produce tubes with a high density reaching 99–100% after sintering. Very good bonding was obtained at the Al2O3/ZrO2 interphase boundaries with no discernible delamination or cracks, which was confirmed by STEM observations. In the case of Al2O3/ZrO2 composites containing 5 vol.% and 10 vol.% ZrO2, the presence of equiaxial ZrO2 grains with an average size of 0.25 µm was observed, which are distributed along the grain boundaries of Al2O3. At the same time, the composites exhibited a very high hardness of 22–23 GPa. Moreover, the environmental influences accompanying the sintering process were quantified. The impacts were determined using the life cycle analysis method, in the phase related to the extraction and processing of raw materials and the process of producing Al2O3/ZrO2 composites. The results obtained show that the production of 1 kg of sintered composite results in greenhouse gas emissions of 2.24–2.9 kg CO2 eq. which is comparable to the amount of emissions accompanying the production of 1 kg of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Polypropylene (PP), or hot-rolled steel products.  相似文献

Highly transparent Y2O3 ceramics were successfully fabricated with CaO as sintering aid. The microstructure evolution, optical transmittance, hardness and thermal conductivity of the Y2O3 ceramics were investigated. It was found that doping a small amount (0.01–0.15 wt.%) of CaO could greatly improve the densification rate of Y2O3. With an optimized CaO dosage of 0.02 wt.% combined with the low temperature vacuum sintering plus hot isostatic pressing (HIP-ing), Y2O3 ceramics with in-line transmittance of 84.87% at 1200 nm and 81.4% at 600 nm were obtained.  相似文献

Ytterbium zirconate (Yb2Zr2O7) is one of the most promising materials for yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) replacement as a thermal barrier coating (TBCs) application. In the presented report, the experimental synthesis of Yb2Zr2O7 coating using novel Reactive Plasma Spray Physical Vapor Deposition (Reactive PS-PVD) is described. The obtained coating, irrespective of the power current (1800, 2000 and 2200 A), was characterized by a hybrid structure and a thickness of about 80–110 μm. The results of XRD phase analysis showed the formation of ytterbium zirconate in the coating but the presence of ytterbium and zirconium oxides was also detected. The oxides were not observed in calcinated powder. The decrease in thermal conductivity with power current increase was observed. It was the result of higher thickness and better columnar structure of the coating obtained using higher power current of the plasma torch.  相似文献

Phase composition, crystal structure, and selected physicochemical properties of the high entropy Ln(Co,Cr,Fe,Mn,Ni)O3−δ (Ln = La, Pr, Gd, Nd, Sm) perovskites, as well as the possibility of Sr doping in Ln1−xSrx(Co,Cr,Fe,Mn,Ni)O3−δ series, are reported is this work. With the use of the Pechini method, all undoped compositions are successfully synthesized. The samples exhibit distorted, orthorhombic or rhombohedral crystal structure, and a linear correlation is observed between the ionic radius of Ln and the value of the quasi-cubic perovskite lattice constant. The oxides show moderate thermal expansion, with a lack of visible contribution from the chemical expansion effect. Temperature-dependent values of the total electrical conductivity are reported, and the observed behavior appears distinctive from that of non-high entropy transition metal-based perovskites, beyond the expectations based on the rule-of-mixtures. In terms of formation of solid solutions in Sr-doped Ln1−xSrx(Co,Cr,Fe,Mn,Ni)O3−δ materials, the results indicate a strong influence of the Ln radius, and while for La-based series the Sr solubility limit is at the level of xmax = 0.3, for the smaller Pr it is equal to just 0.1. In the case of Nd-, Sm- and Gd-based materials, even for the xSr = 0.1, the formation of secondary phases is observed on the SEM + EDS images.  相似文献

Low-temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCCs) are dielectric materials that can be co-fired with Ag or Cu; however, conventional LTCC materials are mostly poorly thermally conductive, which is problematic and requires improvement. We focused on ZnAl2O4 (gahnite) as a base material. With its high thermal conductivity (~59 W·m−1·K−1 reported for 0.83ZnAl2O4–0.17TiO2), ZnAl2O4 is potentially more thermally conductive than Al2O3 (alumina); however, it sinters densely at a moderate temperature (~1500 °C). The addition of only 4 wt.% of Cu3Nb2O8 significantly lowered the sintering temperature of ZnAl2O4 to 910 °C, which is lower than the melting point of silver (961 °C). The sample fired at 960 °C for 384 h exhibited a relative permittivity (εr) of 9.2, a quality factor by resonant frequency (Q × f) value of 105,000 GHz, and a temperature coefficient of the resonant frequency (τf) of −56 ppm·K−1. The sample exhibited a thermal conductivity of 10.1 W·m−1·K−1, which exceeds that of conventional LTCCs (~2–7 W·m−1·K−1); hence, it is a superior LTCC candidate. In addition, a mixed powder of the Cu3Nb2O8 additive and ZnAl2O4 has a melting temperature that is not significantly different from that (~970 °C) of the pristine Cu3Nb2O8 additive. The sample appears to densify in the solid state through a solid-state-activated sintering mechanism.  相似文献

New sodium-based battery concepts require solid electrolytes as ion conducting separators. Besides NaSICON and β-Al2O3 in the Na2O-R2O3-SiO2 system (R = rare earth), a rarely noticed glass-ceramic solid electrolyte with the composition Na5RSi4O12 (N5-type) exists. The present study addresses the investigation of the ionic conductivity of Na5RSi4O12 solid electrolytes sintered from pre-crystallized glass-ceramic powders. The sintering behavior (optical dilatometry), the microstructure (SEM/EDX), and phase composition (XRD), as well as electrochemical properties (impedance spectroscopy), were investigated. To evaluate the effect of the ionic radii, Y, Sm and Gd rare elements were chosen. All compositions were successfully synthesized to fully densified compacts having the corresponding conducting N5-type phase as the main component. The densification behavior was in agreement with the melting point, which decreased with increasing ionic radii and specific cell volume. Alternatively, the ionic conductivities of N5-phases decreased from Y to Gd and Sm containing samples. The highest ionic conductivity of 1.82 × 10−3 S cm−1 at 20 °C was obtained for Na5YSi4O12 composition. The impact of grain boundaries and bulk conductivity on measured values is discussed. A powder-based synthesis method of this glass-ceramic solid electrolyte using different rare earth elements opens possibilities for optimizing ionic conductivity and scalable technological processing by tape casting.  相似文献

Powder metallurgy (PM) method is one of the most effective methods for the production of composite materials. However, there are obstacles that limit the production of magnesium matrix composites (MgMCs), which are in the category of biodegradable materials, by this method. During the weighing and mixing stages, risky situations can arise, such as the exposure of Mg powders to oxidation. Once this risk is eliminated, new MgMCs can be produced. In this study, a paraffin coating technique was applied to Mg powders and new MgMCs with superior mechanical and corrosion properties were produced using the hot pressing technique. The content of the composites consist of an Mg2Zn matrix alloy and Al2O3 particle reinforcements. After the debinding stage at 300 °C, the sintering process was carried out at 625 °C under 50 MPa pressure for 60 min. Before and after the immersion process in Hank’s solution, the surface morphology of the composite specimens was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis. With the hot pressing technique, composite specimens with a very dense and homogeneous microstructure were obtained. While Al2O3 reinforcement improved the mechanical properties, it was effective in changing the corrosion properties up to a certain extent (2 wt.% Al2O3). The highest tensile strength value of approximately 191 MPa from the specimen with 8 wt.% Al2O3. The lowest weight loss and corrosion rate were obtained from the specimen containing 2 wt.% Al2O3 at approximately 9% and 2.5 mm/year, respectively. While the Mg(OH)2 structure in the microstructure formed a temporary film layer, the apatite structures containing Ca, P, and O exhibited a permanent behavior on the surface, and significantly improved the corrosion resistance.  相似文献

Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-based materials have gained considerable attention for their potential to exhibit giant strain, very-high ionic conductivity comparable to yttria stabilized zirconia or high mechanical quality factor for use in high power ultrasonics. In recent times, quenching Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-based compositions have been demonstrated to enhance the thermal depolarization temperature, thus increasing the operational temperature limit of these materials in application. This work investigates the role of quenching-induced changes in the defect chemistry on the dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of quenched Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-BaTiO3. The quenched samples indeed demonstrate an increase in the bulk conductivity. Nevertheless, while subsequent annealing of the quenched samples in air/oxygen atmosphere reverts back the depolarization behaviour to that of a furnace cooled specimen, the bulk conductivity remains majorly unaltered. This implies a weak correlation between the defect chemistry and enhanced thermal stability of the piezoelectric properties and hints towards other mechanisms at play. The minor role of oxygen vacancies is further reinforced by the negligible (10–15%) changes in the mechanical quality factor and hysteresis loss.  相似文献

The paper describes an investigation of Al2O3 samples and NiAl–Al2O3 composites consolidated by pulse plasma sintering (PPS). In the experiment, several methods were used to determine the properties and microstructure of the raw Al2O3 powder, NiAl–Al2O3 powder after mechanical alloying, and samples obtained via the PPS. The microstructural investigation of the alumina and composite properties involves scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The relative densities were investigated with helium pycnometer and Archimedes method measurements. Microhardness analysis with fracture toughness (KIC) measures was applied to estimate the mechanical properties of the investigated materials. Using the PPS technique allows the production of bulk Al2O3 samples and intermetallic ceramic composites from the NiAl–Al2O3 system. To produce by PPS method the NiAl–Al2O3 bulk materials initially, the composite powder NiAl–Al2O3 was obtained by mechanical alloying. As initial powders, Ni, Al, and Al2O3 were used. After the PPS process, the final composite materials consist of two phases: Al2O3 located within the NiAl matrix. The intermetallic ceramic composites have relative densities: for composites with 10 wt.% Al2O3 97.9% and samples containing 20 wt.% Al2O3 close to 100%. The hardness of both composites is equal to 5.8 GPa. Moreover, after PPS consolidation, NiAl–Al2O3 composites were characterized by high plasticity. The presented results are promising for the subsequent study of consolidation composite NiAl–Al2O3 powder with various initial contributions of ceramics (Al2O3) and a mixture of intermetallic–ceramic composite powders with the addition of ceramics to fabricate composites with complex microstructures and properties. In composites with complex microstructures that belong to the new class of composites, in particular, the synergistic effect of various mechanisms of improving the fracture toughness will be operated.  相似文献

An Al2O3/5 vol%·ZrO2/5 vol%·Y3Al5O12 (YAG) tri-phase composite was manufactured by surface modification of an alumina powder with inorganic precursors of the second phases. The bulk materials were produced by die-pressing and pressureless sintering at 1500 °C, obtaining fully dense, homogenous samples, with ultra-fine ZrO2 and YAG grains dispersed in a sub-micronic alumina matrix. The high temperature mechanical properties were investigated by four-point bending tests up to 1500 °C, and the grain size stability was assessed by observing the microstructural evolution of the samples heat treated up to 1700 °C. Dynamic indentation measures were performed on as-sintered and heat-treated Al2O3/ZrO2/YAG samples in order to evaluate the micro-hardness and elastic modulus as a function of re-heating temperature. The high temperature bending tests highlighted a transition from brittle to plastic behavior comprised between 1350 and 1400 °C and a considerable flexural strength reduction at temperatures higher than 1400 °C; moreover, the microstructural investigations carried out on the re-heated samples showed a very limited grain growth up to 1650 °C.  相似文献

By modifying the bonding of graphene (GR) and Fe3O4, a stable structure of GR-Fe3O4, namely magnetic GR, was obtained. Under the induction of a magnetic field, it can be orientated in an epoxy resin (EP) matrix, thus preparing EP/GR-Fe3O4 composites. The effects of the content of GR and the degree of orientation on the thermal conductivity of the composites were investigated, and the most suitable Fe3O4 load on GR was obtained. When the mass ratio of GR and Fe3O4 was 2:1, the thermal conductivity could be increased by 54.8% compared with that of pure EP. Meanwhile, EP/GR-Fe3O4 composites had a better thermal stability, dynamic thermomechanical properties, and excellent electrical insulation properties, which can meet the requirements of electronic packaging materials.  相似文献

In this study, the effect of the addition of silicon carbide to alumina ceramics commonly used in cutting tool applications is addressed. Performance of Al2O3–SiC composite cutting inserts during the machining of hardened steels and ductile iron was compared to the results obtained for a cutting tool made out of 99 wt.% Al2O3, Al2O3–TiC, Al2O3–TiC–ZrO2, and Al2O3–TiN. In almost all tests, the composite with silicon carbide demonstrated better wear resistance, longer tool lifetime, and the ability to cut at higher speeds. The enhanced properties of cutting tools with SiC can be attributed to the morphology and dimensions of the inclusions in the matrix as well as to the strength of the interphase boundaries, small porosity, and lack of high inner stresses in the volume.  相似文献
