Recent work indicates that the high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying WC–Co coatings have been used to enhance the wear resistance of various engineering components in a variety of industrial environments. In the present work, WC–Co powder, containing Cr particles in an amount of 10%, was deposited on ductile cast iron with the HVOF thermal spray coating technique. An investigation was conducted to determine the role of Cr particles in the WC–Co coating produced with the HVOF technique on microstructure, mechanical, and wear properties in a system of type: WC-Co coating/ductile cast iron. The microstructure of the HVOF-sprayed WC–Co + Cr coating was characterised by light microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The analysis of the microstructure showed the formation of a coating with low porosity, compact structure, and good adhesion to the substrate with a typical lamellar structure composed of fine molten Cr particles and finely fragmented WC grains embedded in a Co matrix, reaching the size of nanocrystalline. The scratch test was applied for the analysis of the adhesion of coatings to the substrate. The erosion behaviour and mechanism of material removal was studied and discussed based on microstructural examinations. Moreover, the results were discussed in relation to the bending strength test, including cracks and delamination in the system of the WC–Co + Cr/ductile cast iron, as microhardness and erosion resistance of the coating. It was found that the addition of Cr particles to the WC–Co powder, which causes hardening of the binder phase is a key influence on increased mechanical and wear properties in the studied system. Additionally, due to the construction of nanostructured coatings, suitable proportion of hard and soft phases, the technique sprayed HVOF coatings have advantageous properties such as high density and good slurry erosion resistance.  相似文献

One of the methods of local improvement of the wear resistance of aluminum alloy parts is the deposition of hard tungsten carbide-based coatings on the surfaces subjected to intense external influence. This paper is devoted to the characterization of the WC–10Co–4Cr (wt.%) coating deposited on an Al–4Cu–1Mg (wt.%) alloy by the detonation spray method. In comparison with the common thermal spray techniques like High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) or Atmospheric Plasma Spraying (APS), the heat input delivered to the substrate during detonation spray is significantly lower, that is especially important in case of coating deposition on aluminum alloys. The paper presents the results of morphology investigation, microstructure, phase composition, microhardness, and cohesive strength of deposited carbide-based detonation spray coating. Results showed that the coating has a porosity less than 0.5% and the carbide grain refinement down to the submicron size during coating deposition was detected. According to the investigation, the variation of spraying distance from 270 to 230 mm does not influence on the coating microstructure and composition.  相似文献

In the present study, two different cermet coatings, WC–CrC–Ni and Cr3C2–NiCr, manufactured by the high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) method were studied. They are labeled as follows: WC–CrC–Ni coating—WC and Cr3C2–NiCr coating—CrC. These coatings were deposited onto a magnesium alloy (AZ31) substrate. The goal of the study was to compare these two types of cermet coating, which were investigated in terms of microstructure features and selected mechanical properties, such as hardness, instrumented indentation, fracture toughness, and wear resistance. The results reveal that the WC content influenced the hardness and Young’s modulus. The most noticeable effect of WC addition was observed for the wear resistance. WC coatings had a wear intensity value that was almost two times lower, equal to 6.5·10−6 mm3/N·m, whereas for CrC ones it was equal to 12.6·10−6 mm3/N·m. On the other hand, the WC coating exhibited a lower value of fracture toughness.  相似文献

Carbide coatings are frequently used to improve the wear resistance of industrial components in various wear environments. In this research, aiming at the service characteristics of easy wear and short service life of ball mill liners, WC–10Cr3C2–12Ni coatings were prepared by supersonic flame spraying technology (HVOF). The reciprocating sliding tests were conducted under four different WC particle size conditions, and the differences in the tribological behavior of the coatings and three–body abrasive wear mechanism were obtained. The findings reveal that the average nanohardness of the WC–Cr3C2–Ni coating is nearly five times greater than that of the steel substance. The COF of tribo-pairs decreases and then increases as the particle size increases. In the case of no particles, the surface of the coating is slightly worn, with fatigue and oxidative wear being the primary wear mechanisms. Small particles (1.5 μm and 4 μm) are crushed and coated on the coating surface, in which the extremely fine particles are plasticized to form friction layers that have a protective effect on the coatings. The protective effect of the particles disappears as the particle size increases and is replaced by a powerful chiseling effect on the coatings, resulting in serious material loss. The particle size has a direct relationship with coating wear.  相似文献

The structural and tribological properties of a protective high-chromium coating synthesized on gray cast iron by air pulse-plasma treatments were investigated. The coating was fabricated in an electrothermal axial plasma accelerator equipped with an expandable cathode made of white cast iron (2.3 wt.% C–27.4 wt.% Cr–3.1 wt.% Mn). Optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, microhardness measurements, and tribological tests were conducted for coating characterizations. It was found that after ten plasma pulses (under a discharge voltage of 4 kV) and post-plasma heat treatment (two hours of holding at 950 °C and oil-quenching), a coating (thickness = 210–250 µm) consisting of 48 vol.% Cr-rich carbides (M7C3, M3C), 48 vol.% martensite, and 4 vol.% retained austenite was formed. The microhardness of the coating ranged between 980 and 1180 HV. The above processes caused a gradient in alloying elements in the coating and the substrate due to the counter diffusion of C, Cr, and Mn atoms during post-plasma heat treatments and led to the formation of a transitional layer and different structural zones in near-surface layers of cast iron. As compared to gray cast iron (non-heat-treated and heat-treated), the coating had 3.0–3.2 times higher abrasive wear resistance and 1.2–1208.8 times higher dry-sliding wear resistance (depending on the counter-body material). The coating manifested a tendency of solidification cracking caused by tensile stress due to the formation of a mostly austenitic structure with a lower specific volume. Cracks facilitated abrasive wear and promoted surface spalling under dry-sliding against the diamond cone.  相似文献

H13 steel is often damaged by wear, erosion, and thermal fatigue. It is one of the essential methods to improve the service life of H13 steel by preparing a coating on it. Due to the advantages of high melting point, good wear, and corrosion resistance of Mo, Mo coating was fabricated on H13 steel by electro spark deposition (ESD) process in this study. The influences of the depositing parameters (deposition power, discharge frequency, and specific deposition time) on the roughness of the coating, thickness, and properties were investigated in detail. The optimized depositing parameters were obtained by comparing roughness, thickness, and crack performance of the coating. The results show that the cross-section of the coating mainly consisted of strengthening zone and transition zone. Metallurgical bonding was formed between the coating and substrate. The Mo coating mainly consisted of Fe9.7Mo0.3, Fe-Cr, FeMo, and Fe2Mo cemented carbide phases, and an amorphous phase. The Mo coating had better microhardness, wear, and corrosion resistance than substrate, which could significantly improve the service life of the H13 steel.  相似文献

To protect magnesium alloy surfaces from wear and corrosion, an Fe-based amorphous coating was prepared on WE43 through the Ni60 interlayer by high-velocity oxygen-fuel (HVOF) spraying. The porosity was ~1%, and the amorphous content exceeded 90%. The wear and corrosion resistance of the composite coating with WC particles wrapped in a Ni layer as the reinforcing phase were compared with that of the completely amorphous coating. The friction coefficient (COF) of the composite coating was 0.3, which is only half of that of the WE43 substrate, and the composite coating exhibited a more stable wear behavior than the completely amorphous coating. The corrosion tendency of the composite coating is lower than that of stainless steel, with a corrosion potential of −0.331 V, and the addition of WC particles did not deteriorate the corrosion resistance considerably. The bonding mechanism of the bonding interface between the amorphous structure and the particles of the reinforcing phase was investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Reinforcing particles were confirmed to form metallurgical bonding with the coating. It was found that the Ni layer showed excellent bonding performance in the form of a mixture that is amorphous and nanocrystalline. Therefore, the Fe-based amorphous composite coating on a magnesium alloy surface shows a potential protective effect.  相似文献

This work aimed at the development of wear and corrosion resistant oxide coatings for medical implants made of zirconium alloy, by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO). The effect of sodium silicate and boric acid addition to calcium acetate electrolyte on the coating properties was studied. Different aspects of the PEO coating were investigated: microstructure, electrochemical and wear behavior, wettability and apatite-forming ability. The resultant coatings consist of a dense inner layer 1.4–2.2 µm thick and a porous outer layer. The total thickness of the coating is 12–20 µm. It was found that the coating contains the tetragonal zirconia (70–95%). The obtained coatings show high corrosion resistance and reduce the surface corrosion current by 1–3 orders of magnitude, depending on the electrolyte additive, compared to the uncoated surface. The addition of boric acid to the electrolyte significantly increases the wear resistance of the coating and reduces the coefficient of friction. In terms of the combination of the coating characteristics, the electrolyte with the addition of the alkali and boric acid is recommended as the most effective.  相似文献

Corrosion is frequently viewed as a catastrophic and unavoidable disaster in marine applications. Every year, a huge cost is incurred on the maintenance and repair of corrosion-affected equipment and machinery. In the marine environment, as-cast nickel–aluminium bronze (NAB) is susceptible to selective phase corrosion. To solve this problem, chromium-reinforced nickel–aluminium bronze was fabricated using the friction stir process (FSP) with improved microstructures and surface properties. A slurry erosion–corrosion test on as-cast and FSPed composites demonstrated that the developed surfaced composite has lower erosion and corrosion rates than the as-cast NAB alloy. The erosion–corrosion rate increased with a decrease in the impact angle from 90° to 30° for both as-cast NAB and prepared composites, exhibiting a shear mode of erosion. The specimens at impact angle 30° experienced more pitting action and higher mass loss compared with those at impact angle 90°. Due to increases in the mechanical properties, the FS-processed composite showed higher erosion resistance than the as-cast NAB alloy. Furthermore, corrosion behaviour was also studied via the static immersion corrosion test and electrochemical measurements under 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. In a static immersion corrosion test, the FSPed composite outperformed the as-cast NAB composite by a wide margin. The FSPed composite also demonstrated a reduced electrochemical corrosion rate, as revealed by the polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic (EIS) data. This reduced rate is attributed to the formation of a Cr oxide film over its surface in the corrosive environment.  相似文献

The paper presents the study results of laser processing of precoat applied on C30 steel. The precoat consisted of powder mixtures with a binder in the form of water glass. Tungsten powder, chromium, and tungsten carbide (WC) were used to produce the precoat. The laser processing was carried out using a Yb:YAG disc laser with a rated power of 1 kW. Constant producing parameters (power of laser beam, 600 W; laser beam scanning rate, 400 mm/min) were applied. Chemical composition of the precoat was a variable parameter in coating production. A mixture consisting of 50% W and 50% Cr as a metal matrix was prepared. Subsequently, WC particles in weight ratios of 25%, 50%, and 75% were added to matrix. As a result, W–Cr metal matrix composite coatings reinforced with WC particles were formed. This study focused on investigation of microstructure, microhardness, phase, and chemical composition as well as corrosion and wear resistance, of the newly formed W–Cr/WC coatings. An instrumented nanoindentation test was also used in this study. As a result of laser beam action, the newly formed coatings had an interesting microstructure and good properties which were improved in comparison to substrate material. It is anticipated that the resulting coatings, depending on the treatment parameters (e.g., W–Cr/WC powder mixture) used, can be successfully applied to metal forming or foundry tools.  相似文献

TiMoN coatings with different Mo contents on a SS316L substrate are deposited by using closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering ion plating (CFUMSIP) technology to enhance the corrosion resistance and durability of stainless steel (SS) bipolar plates (BPs) in proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) during the start-up/shut-down process. The electrochemical test results illustrate that TiMoN-4A coating has extremely good corrosion resistance compared to other coatings. The potentiostat polarization (+0.6 VSCE) tests indicate that the corrosion current density (Icorr) of TiMoN-4A coating is 5.22 × 10−7A cm−2, which meets the department of energy 2020 targets (DOE, ≤1 × 10−6 A cm−2). Otherwise, TiMoN-4A coating also exhibits the best corrosion resistance and stability in potentiostatic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and high potential (+1.2VSCE) polarization tests. The interfacial contact resistance (ICR) measurement results show that TiMoN-4A coating has the minimum ICR of 9.19 mΩ·cm2, which meets the DOE 2020 targets (≤10 mΩ·cm2).  相似文献

In this work, the effect of the substrate, Al 7075 alloy and 1H18NT9 stainless steel, on the microstructure and tribological properties of cold sprayed (Cr3C2-25(Ni20Cr))-(Ni-graphite) coatings was investigated. Both coatings were dense and did not reveal any discontinuities at the interfaces. They had similar Cr3C2 and graphite contents. Their microstructures showed a variety of grain sizes of the matrix phase between the inner part of the splat, showing large ones, and their boundaries, where elongated and nanostructured grains were formed during the deposition process. The coating deposited on the steel substrate revealed a slightly higher hardness and lower abrasive wear with the Al2O3 loose abrasive particles. The force required to destroy the durability of the coating–steel substrate system in the three-point bending test was higher than those of the other ones. The cermet deposit cold sprayed on steel and examined at 25 °C under 10 N revealed the best wear resistance and the lowest friction coefficient.  相似文献

Ni–xCr–Mo laser-cladding coatings with varying Cr content of 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 wt.% were fabricated using a self-assembled coaxial laser-cladding device. The H2S-induced high-temperature corrosion tests under reductive atmosphere were conducted at 500, 550, and 600 °C. Subsequently, the influence of Cr content on the microstructural evolution and corrosion resistance of the Ni–xCr–Mo coatings was investigated. The experimental results revealed that 30 wt.% Cr is the limited maximum content that forms the suitable morphology of coatings without large prominent pores and cracks during the fabrication process, and 15 wt.% Cr corresponds to the critical minimum content for excellent corrosion resistance, as implied from the variation tendency of the corrosion weight-gain curves. Moreover, a two-layer structure of the corrosion scales was observed in the Ni–xCr–Mo laser-cladding coatings, which was primarily caused by the selective corrosion between the Ni and S and Cr/Mo and O.  相似文献

The working environment for tubing in oil and gas fields is becoming more and more serious due to the exploration of unconventional oil and gas resources, leading to the increasing need for a protective internal coating to be used in tubing. Therefore, a new mica–graphene/epoxy composite coating with different graphene contents (0.0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.7, and 1.0 wt.%) was prepared to improve the tubing resistance to a corrosive medium, an autoclave was used to simulate the working environment, and an electrochemical workstation assisted by three-electrodes was used to study the electrochemical characteristics of the coating. The results showed that the addition of a certain amount of graphene into the mica/epoxy coating significantly improved the corrosion resistance of the composite coating, and when the graphene content increased, the corrosion resistance of the mica/epoxy coating first increased and then decreased when the corrosion current density of a 35 wt.% 800# mica/epoxy coating with a 0.7 wt.% graphene content was the lowest (7.11 × 10−13 A·cm−2), the corrosion potential was the highest (292 mV), the polarization resistance was the largest (3.463 × 109 Ω·cm2), and the corrosion resistance was improved by 89.3% compared to the coating without graphene. Furthermore, the adhesion of the coating with 0.7 wt.% graphene was also the largest (8.81 MPa, increased by 3.4%) and had the smallest diffusion coefficient (1.566 × 107 cm2·s−1, decreased by 76.1%), and the thermal stability improved by 18.6%. Finally, the corrosion resistance mechanism of the composite coating with different graphene contents at different soaking times was revealed based on the electrochemistry and morphology characteristics other than water absorption and contact angle.  相似文献

In this study, Ni–Cu–W graded coatings are produced by atmospheric plasma spraying and subsequently remelted by laser. The surface morphology, hardness, compositional fluctuations and corrosion resistance of the Ni–Cu–W coating are investigated. The coatings after laser remelting are densified and become more homogenous with an excellent corrosion resistance and high hardness, which can be used to explore the new materials.  相似文献

High-entropy alloys could provide a solution for corrosion resistance due to their impressive properties. Solid-state processing of high purity Co, Cr, Fe, Ni and Mo metallic powders and consolidation resulted in a bulk material that was further machined into electro spark deposition electrodes. After the stainless steel substrate surface preparation, thin successive layers of the high-entropy alloy were deposited and Pull-Off testing was performed on the newly obtained coating, for a better understanding of the adhesion efficiency of this technique. Good adhesion of the coating to the substrate was proved by the test and no cracks or exfoliations were present. Corrosion resistance testing was performed in a liquid solution of 3.5 wt.% NaCl for 6 h at room temperature and the results obtained validated our hypothesis that CoCrFeNiMo0.85 high-entropy alloys could provide corrosion resistance when coating a stainless steel substrate.  相似文献

Flame-sprayed NiCrBSi/WC-12Co composite coatings were deposited in different ratios on the surface of stainless steel. Oxyacetylene flame remelting treatment was applied to surfaces for refinement of the morphology of the layers and improvement of the coating/substrate adhesion. The performance of the coated specimens to cavitation erosion and electrochemical corrosion was evaluated by an ultrasonic vibratory method and, respectively, by polarization measurements. The microstructure was investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) combined with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). The obtained results demonstrated that the addition of 15 wt.% WC-12Co to the self-fluxing alloy improves the resistance to cavitation erosion (the terminal erosion rate (Vs) decreased with 15% related to that of the NiCrBSi coating) without influencing the good corrosion resistance in NaCl solution. However, a further increase in WC-Co content led to a deterioration of these coating properties (the Vs has doubled related to that of the NiCrBSi coating). Moreover, the corrosion behavior of the latter composite coating was negatively influenced, a fact confirmed by increased values for the corrosion current density (icorr). Based on the achieved experimental results, one may summarize that NiCrBSi/WC-Co composite coatings are able to increase the life cycle of expensive, high-performance components exposed to severe cavitation conditions.  相似文献

To enhance the friction and wear properties of 40Cr steel’s surface, CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) coatings with various Ti contents were prepared using laser cladding. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used to characterize the phase composition, microstructure, and chemical composition of the samples. The findings demonstrated that the CoCrFeMnNiTix HEA coatings formed a single FCC phase. Fe2Ti, Ni3Ti, and Co2Ti intermetallic compounds were discovered in the coatings when the molar ratio of Ti content was greater than 0.5. The EDS findings indicated that Cr and Co/Ni/Ti were primarily enriched in the dendrite and interdendrite, respectively. Ti addition can effectively enhance the coating’s mechanical properties. The hardness test findings showed that when the molar ratio of Ti was 0.75, the coating’s microhardness was 511 HV0.5, which was 1.9 times the hardness of the 40Cr (256 HV0.5) substrate and 1.46 times the hardness of the CrCrFeMnNi HEA coating (348 HV0.5). The friction and wear findings demonstrated that the addition of Ti can substantially reduce the coating’s friction coefficient and wear rate. The coating’s wear resistance was the best when the molar ratio of Ti was 0.75, the friction coefficient was 0.296, and the wear amount was 0.001 g. SEM and 3D morphology test results demonstrated that the coating’s wear mechanism changed from adhesive wear and abrasive wear to fatigue wear and abrasive wear with the increase in Ti content.  相似文献

Phosphate and aluminate electrolytes were used to prepare plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coatings on 6061 aluminum alloy. The surface and cross-section microstructure, element distribution, and phase composition of the PEO coatings were characterized by SEM, EDS, XPS, and XRD. The friction and wear properties were evaluated by pin-on-disk sliding tests under dry conditions. The corrosion resistance of PEO coatings was investigated by electrochemical corrosion and salt spray tests in acidic environments. It was found that the PEO coatings prepared from both phosphate and aluminate electrolytes were mainly composed of α-Al2O3 and γ-Al2O3. The results demonstrate that a bi-layer coating is formed in the phosphate electrolyte, and a single-layered dense alumina coating with a hardness of 1300 HV is realizable in the aluminate electrolyte. The aluminate PEO coating had a lower wear rate than the phosphate PEO coating. However, the phosphate PEO coating showed a better corrosion resistance in acidic environment, which is mainly attributed to the presence of an amorphous P element at the substrate/coating interface.  相似文献

The manufacture of medical and aerospace components made of titanium alloys and other difficult-to-cut materials requires the parallel development of high performance cutting tools coated with materials capable of enhanced tribological and resistance properties. In this matter, a thin nanocomposite film made out of AlCrN (aluminum–chromium–nitride) was studied in this research, showing experimental work in the deposition process and its characterization. A heat-treated monolayer coating, competitive with other coatings in the machining of titanium alloys, was analyzed. Different analysis and characterizations were performed on the manufactured coating by scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDXS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Furthermore, the mechanical behavior of the coating was evaluated through hardness test and tribology with pin-on-disk to quantify friction coefficient and wear rate. Finally, machinability tests using coated tungsten carbide cutting tools were executed in order to determine its performance through wear resistance, which is a key issue of cutting tools in high-end cutting at elevated temperatures. It was demonstrated that the specimen (with lower friction coefficient than previous research) is more efficient in machinability tests in Ti6Al4V alloys. Furthermore, the heat-treated monolayer coating presented better performance in comparison with a conventional monolayer of AlCrN coating.  相似文献
