Purpose
Based on a case of supernumerary cusp on the bucca of left maxillary second molar diagnosed by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), its genesis, diagnosis and antidiastole are to be analysed. The clinic implication of CBCT is correspondingly discussed. Methods
The supernumerary cusp was diagnosed by oral general examination, intra-oral radiograph and CBCT. The features of supernumerary cusp, fused tooth, geminated tooth and concrescence tooth, especially differentiate points among them were discussed. Results
The case of supernumerary cusp on the bucca of left maxillary second molar was diagnosed definitely by the combined application of oral general examination, periapical radiograph and CBCT.Conclusion
Supernumerary cusp on the bucca of left maxillary second molar is a rare phenomenon, which is difficult to be differentiated from other tooth deformities. CBCT can improve accuracy of diagnosis.2.
Background
Extensive changes in the sleeping patterns of a child take place within the baby’s first year of life. Those changes are due to biological processes which are, however, influenced by environmental and parental factors. Objectives
This review aims to establish a connection between child sleep on one hand and parental cognitions, interactive behaviour, psychopathologies and environmental influences on the other hand.Materials and methods
The review includes the analysis of 37 research articles that shed a light on various influential factors on the sleep of a child. Those influential factors are assigned to the model of sleep-wake-regulations.Results
Parental behaviour, in relation with going-to-bed rituals and calming techniques, has a significant influence on child sleep. Higher parental engagement is related to more fragmented sleep of the child. Studies show that parental cognition and psychopathologies, in addition to further influential factors caused by occupation and sleeping problems that are related to screaming and feeding disorders, govern parental sleep-related behaviours and have therefore direct effects on child sleep. Conclusions
Child sleep is highly influenced by parental sleep-related behaviours and should always be viewed in the context of the family. There are reciprocal interactions between the individual members of the family and the aforementioned influential factors on child sleep can serve as essential starting points for suitable interventions. Further research in this field needs to be conducted.3.
Background
Turkey, with a Muslim population of officially over 99 %, is one of the few secular states in the Muslim world. Although state institutions are not based on Islamic juridical and ethical norms, the latter play a significant role in defining people’s attitudes towards controversial issues in the modern world, especially when backed by opinions of Muslim scholars living in Turkey. Accordingly, opinions of Muslim scholars undoubtedly have an important effect on bioethical decisions made by institutions and individuals. Objective(s)
To explore the ethical positions of Muslim scholars living in Turkey and their arguments used in the ethical assessment of embryonic stem cell research; to discuss the biological-moral tensions arising in medical research on human embryos.Design
Qualitative study.Setting
Muslim scholars located in different parts of Turkey. Methods
Qualitative method, involving the collection of opinions of various scholars, by means of 15 individual semi-structured interviews, evaluated using thematic qualitative analysis. Results
Positions regarding embryonic stem cell research differ among Muslim scholars in Turkey. On the other hand, even where positions are similar, they are often supported by different arguments. Conclusion
Despite the heterogeneity of the arguments presented, the dominant position considers embryonic stem cell research as morally acceptable.4.
Purpose
Dekker et al. (2016) propose an updated definition of behavioural medicine.Method
In this commentary, we discuss how the field and the disciplines involved have changed over time before suggesting small amendments to the proposed definition. Results
We suggest that the range of medicine which might be considered ‘behavioural’ is increasing to encompass virtually all medical practice. In addition, the role of behaviour and the potential for behaviour change as a means of improving health have become increasingly important. A defining characteristic of behavioural medicine is the involvement of multiple disciplines, working together or in parallel and, as the extent of the field expands, more disciplines are likely to be involved. Conclusion
We therefore propose that the definition should represent the full width of the research, practice and disciplines involved in behavioural medicine.5.

Purpose
Although poor oral hygiene practices can have serious health consequences, a large number of adults brush or floss their teeth less than the recommended time or not at all. This study examined the mediating effect of two key self-regulatory processes, self-efficacy and planning, as the mechanisms that translate dental flossing intentions into behavior.Method
Participants (N = 629) comprised young adults attending a major university in Queensland, Australia. A longitudinal design guided by sound theory was adopted to investigate the sequential mediation chain for the effect of dental flossing intentions (time 1) on behavior (time 3) via self-efficacy and planning (time 2).Results
A latent variable structural equation model with standardized parameter estimates revealed the model was a good fit to the data. Controlling for baseline flossing, the effect of intentions on behavior was mediated via self-efficacy and planning, with 64 % of the flossing variance accounted for by this set of predictors. Controlling for age and sex did not change the results. Conclusion
The results extend previous research to further elucidate the mechanisms that help to translate oral hygiene intentions into behavior and make a significant contribution to the cumulative empirical evidence about self-regulatory components in health behavior change.7.

Background
Millions of people share a bed with their partner. Sleep und relationship could possibly influence each other. Objectives
To identify and discuss connections between relationship and sleep quality. Methods
Review of the literature in electronic databases. Results
Conflict and violence in relationships lead to decreases in both partners’ sleep quality. Constructive approaches to resolving conflicts is necessary for good sleep, and vice versa. Women prefer partners with sleep-wake rhythms matching their own and report higher relationship satisfactions when the couple’s chronotypes are compatible. Conclusions
Sleep and circadian rhythms play important roles in relationships. When treating insomnia, the relationship and the partner’s sleep should be taken into account.8.
Anatomical configuration of the inferior alveolar neurovascular bundle: a histomorphometric analysis
Sun-Kyoung Yu Myoung-Hwa Lee Yong Hyun Jeon Yoon Young Chung Heung-Joong Kim 《Surgical and radiologic anatomy : SRA》2016,38(2):195-201
Purpose
The inferior alveolar neurovascular bundle (NVB) is important in implant placement and many other surgeries in dentistry because it is a major supplier of sensation and blood to the mandible via the mandibular canal. The purposes of the present study were to determine the areas and diameters of the NVB, the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN), and the inferior alveolar artery (IAA), and to verify the buccolingual location of the mandibular canal. Methods
The anatomical configuration of the NVB was examined by histomorphometrically analyzing 20 embalmed dentulous hemimandibles. The areas and maximum horizontal and vertical diameters of the NVB, IAN, and IAA were measured according to tooth region. The distances from the internal border of the mandibular canal to the outer surface of the buccal and lingual cortical plates were also measured. Results
The areas of the vertically oval-shaped NVB and IAN appeared to be constant between the molar and premolar regions, which contain the mental branch, and decreased sharply in the lateral incisor after branching off of the mental branch via the mental canal. The mandibular canal was located close to the lingual cortical plate in the posterior tooth region before passing through the mental canal, immediately after which it was situated quite close to the buccal cortical plate, and then closer to the middle toward the anterior tooth region. Conclusions
The findings of this study provide useful anatomical information that should help to minimize the risk of injury to the NVB during surgical procedures in the mandibular region.9.
Objective
RBL-2H3 cells express Toll-like receptors, including TLR4. This study aims to assess various aspects of the TLR4 pathway. Methods
RBL-2H3 cells were indirectly stained for cell surface TLR4, 25 CD14 and intracellular MyD88 proteins and analysed through flow cytometry for single-colour staining. Results
While TLR4-receptors are expressed in RBL-2H3 cells, associated elements involved in the signaling pathway, CD14 and MyD88, are not. Conclusion
Care should be taken if RBL-2H3 cells are used to study aspects of the innate immune system in mast cells.10.

Objective and design
Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a common painful condition in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Joint inflammation is believed to be a chief cause of pain in patients with TMD, through the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines that induce peripheral sensitization of nerve terminals followed by microglial stimulation.Materials and subject
TMJ was induced in rats with the injection of complete Freund’s adjuvant (CFA) emulsion into the left TMJ capsule.Treatment
The present study would assess the effects of micronized palmitoylethanolamide (m-PEA) on glial activation and trigeminal hypersensitivity. Methods
Ten mg/kg m-PEA or corresponding vehicle was administered 1 h after CFA and mechanical allodynia and edema were evaluated at 24 and 72 h after CFA injection. Results
CFA-injected animals showed TMJ edema and ipsilateral mechanical allodynia accompanied by a robust growth in GFAP protein-positive satellite glial cells and activation of resident macrophages in the TG. Moreover, m-PEA administration significantly reduced the degree of TMJ damage and pain, macrophage activation in TG and up-regulation of Iba1.Conclusions
The results confirm that m-PEA could represent a novel approach for monitoring pain during trigeminal nerve sensitization.11.
Background
Studies have shown that sleep quality is negatively affected by perfectionism. Moreover, partner- or relationship-oriented perfectionism negatively influences relationship quality. Objective
This paper aims to investigate the association of general perfectionism with sleep quality and relationship quality.Materials and methods
A study assessing perfectionism, sleep quality, and relationship quality was performed via analyzing online questionnaires completed by 489 German adults from the general population. Results
Participants with impaired sleep showed a higher level of maladaptive perfectionism (concern over mistakes and doubts, parental expectations, and criticism) than participants with good sleep, whereby the severity of sleep problems was not determining. Relationship quality is affected by perfectionism. However, this association is mediated by sleep quality. Conclusion
Perfectionism is associated with worse sleep quality but not with worse relationship quality when sleep quality is integrated into the model as a mediator.12.

Objective
To evaluate the evidence regarding the disease concept of histamine intolerance as a state of inadequate histamine inactivation. Methods
Keyword-based systematic screening of the scientific literature and of public websites focusing on diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Results
Histamine intolerance is commonly diagnosed based solely on subjective reporting of symptoms instead of following systematic diagnostic procedures based on objective laboratory and physical parameters. The only effective long-term therapy is avoidance of histamine-containing food. Conclusions
The concept of histamine intolerance as a metabolic disease is in need of more experimental and clinical evidence and affected patients will benefit from a clear, evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic regime.13.

Purpose
The purpose of this study was to discuss the distribution characteristics and the anatomical angioarchitecture of cutaneous branches arising from the second dorsal metacarpal artery for the repair of small tissue defects in the hand or fingers using the second dorsal metacarpal artery chain-link flap. Methods
Fifteen fresh human cadaveric hands were studied using three methods: latex perfusion for microanatomical analysis, denaturation of material and vinyl chloride mixed packing for cast specimens, and latex perfusion creating pellucid specimens. Cutaneous perforators with a diameter of 0.2 mm or greater were evaluated using statistical analysis. Cluster analysis was conducted to determine the overall distribution of the perforators. Results
Two main clusters of perforators distributed at a relative distance of 40.8 and 68.6 % from the second web space edge to the midpoint of the second metacarpal bone as a unit. The Chi-square analysis revealed no significant differences in either the radial or ulnar side distribution of the cutaneous perforators from the second dorsal metacarpal artery (p = 0.779). Chain-links formed among adjacent perforators were parallel to the axis of the second metacarpal bone on the dorsum of the hand. Based on the anatomic characteristic, we designed the second dorsal metacarpal artery chain-link flap to recover the defect in the index finger. As a result, the patient was satisfied with the appearance and function. Conclusion
This study indicates that there are two main clusters of arterioles in the distal second dorsal metacarpal artery that can be helpful for the second dorsal metacarpal artery pedicle cutaneous chain-link perforator flaps in the repair of defects in the fingers.15.
Background
SNOMED CT is the most comprehensive medical terminology. However, its use for intelligent services based on formal reasoning is questionable. Methods
The analysis of the structure of SNOMED CT is based on the formal top-level ontology DOLCE.Results
The analysis revealed several ontological and knowledge-engineering errors, the most important are errors in the hierarchy (mostly from an ontological point of view, but also regarding medical aspects) and the mixing of subsumption relations with other types (mostly 'part of').Conclusion
The found errors impede formal reasoning. The paper presents a possible way to correct these problems.16.

Purpose
Psychological factors have shown to be associated with treatment outcomes in hand injury patients. This study aimed to investigate the role of health locus of control (HLOC) and its dimensions internal, social-external, and fatalistic-external HLOC in treatment outcomes of hand injury patients.Method
One hundred thirty-two consecutive patients of a tertiary center for hand surgery undergoing treatment for acute hand injury or degenerative hand problems were included in this study. Pretreatment levels of depression, anxiety, HLOC, and pain intensity were measured, along with pain intensity levels at 4-month follow-up. Hierarchical regression analyses were calculated to test for moderation effects of the HLOC dimensions on the relationship between pretreatment and follow-up pain intensity. Results
Controlling for age, gender, treatment modality, source of hand pain, and depressive symptoms, a moderation effect emerged (β?=???0.16, p?<?0.05), such that among patients higher in initial pain intensity, those lower in social-external HLOC experienced higher pain intensity at follow-up compared to those with high social-external HLOC. Internal HLOC and fatalistic-external HLOC did not moderate the effect of initial pain intensity on pain intensity at follow-up.Conclusion
Hand injury patients suffering greater initial pain intensity who also had lower versus higher social-external HLOC experienced less favorable treatment outcome. This finding suggests that if patients with high initial pain succeed in transferring perceived health control to professionals and to gain confidence in treatment and clinicians, treatment outcome could be improved in hand surgery.17.

Background
There are currently limited pathways into a career in health policy research in Australia, due in part to a serious absence of health policy research capability in Australian universities.Discussion
We define what we consider health policy research and education should comprise. We then examine what is currently on offer and propose ways to strengthen health policy research in Australia.Summary
This paper, which is part analysis and part commentary, is offered to provoke wider debate about how health policy research can be nurtured in Australia.18.

Objective and design
Evaluating the pro-/anti-inflammatory activity of the C-terminal cleavage product of osteopontin in comparison to angiotensin 1–7.Material and subjects
Human coronary endothelial cells (hcEC) treated with conditioned media from human U937 macrophages.Treatment
Macrophages were (pre)treated with C-terminal, full-length or N-terminal osteopontin (OPN-C, OPN-FL, OPN-N, respectively), angiotensin II, angiotensin 1–7 or TNF-α. OPN-C modulatory capacity was compared to that of Ang1–7 in inhibiting subsequent Ag II, OPN-FL or OPN-N-induced macrophage-mediated endothelial inflammation. Methods
Protein expression of NFκB, IκB, vCAM-1 and iCAM-1 was assessed using western blot. Promotor activation by NFκB was also assessed by dual-luciferase reporter assay. Results
Conditioned media of macrophages treated with OPN-C induced hcECs’ NfκB activation to a lower degree than OPN-FL or OPN-N. Priming of macrophages with angiotensin 1–7 attenuated the endothelial pro-inflammatory effect induced by subsequent exposure of the macrophages to angiotensin II, OPN-FL or OPN-N. This was evidenced by both NfκB activation and vCAM and iCAM expression. In contrast, priming macrophages with OPN-C did not significantly attenuate the subsequent response to the pro-inflammatory cytokines. Conclusions
OPN-C induces lower macrophage-induced endothelial inflammation compared to OPN-FL or OPN-N, but unlike angiotensin 1–7, fails to prevent endothelial inflammation induced by subsequent pro-inflammatory macrophage stimulation.20.
