医德教育不仅是一种知识传授，更是一种信念培养，因此必须引导学习建立医德价值的理念。这是改进医德教育的关键。     

Values education: a new direction for medical education.

This paper suggests that medical education should redirect resources to values education, specifically developing new strategies to improve the process of clarification of values. The author suggests using the values journal method which is based on a systematic record of students' personal value systems reflected in their stories and life experience; and on their responses to case presentation. Generating a personal values journal helps students define who they are, what their social and professional roles are, what their expectations are and where they are going. Keeping values journals promotes students' decision-making capacity, and equips them with the necessary skills to teach their future patients how to generate their own value systems. The development of a well defined values journal is a preparatory stage for active participation in clinical conferences or group discussion, and for effective communal dialogue among the group's members.     

Developing medical education.

This article reviews the current state of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, and suggests changing the educational methods used rather than rearranging the content of courses. A learner centred approach is described, and its applications to postgraduate medical education discussed. Some research and development implications are considered.     

Continuing medical education.

1. Continuing medical education is unquestionably a worthwhile goal. Knowledge or exposure to information, however, does not ensure competence in medical care; nevertheless, without knowledge there is no possibility of true competence. 2. Continuing medical education should not be judged by recall knowledge but should ensure exposure to current and acceptable medical knowledge. 3. Because all licensed physicians have unrestricted licenses regardless of their specialty, they all should benefit from a comprehensive type of CME. 4. An open-book examination with reference sources appended to the questions would expose the physician to current and acceptable medical knowledge. 5. Recall types of examinations have no place in practical CME.     

Five hundred years of specialty certification and compulsory continuing medical education. Venice 1300-1801

From 1300 to 1801, Venice required an early form of specialty certification for medical practice and the yearly attendance of refresher courses in anatomy by all licensed practitioners in the city. The latter requirement provoked ingenious evasions, which the Venetian government continually tried to overcome. This article describes the system and its implementation, based on Venetian archival documents.
