AimsThe DASH diet was designed for helping control of blood pressure but, fortunately, it can also be prescribed for many other chronic conditions. The current study intended to assess the potential effects of DASH diet on metabolic risk factors in patients with chronic disease.Data synthesisWe carried out a systematic literature search for RCTs from inception until July 2020. A total of 54 clinical trials were included in the final analysis. Compared to control groups, a significant lower effect of the DASH diet was noted for body weight (−1.59 kg; p < 0.001), BMI (−0.64 kg/m2; p < 0.001), and WC (−1.93 cm; p < 0.001) as well as for SBP (−3.94 mmHg; p < 0.001) and DBP (−2.44 mmHg; P < 0.001). The DASH diet significantly decreased TC (−5.12 mg/dl; p = 0.008) and LDL-C levels (−3.53 mg/dl; p = 0.041), but not HDL-C (0.30 mg/dl; p = 0.510), TG (−4.22 mg/dl; p = 0.067), and VLDL-C (−2.16 mg/dl; p = 0.062). No significant effect of the DASH diet was noted for blood glucose (−0.38 mg/dl; p = 0.216), insulin (−0.03 μIU/mL; p = 0.817), HOMA-IR (−0.15; p = 0.132), and CRP (−0.33 mg/l; p = 0.173).ConclusionsThe DASH diet is a feasible approach to weight loss and to control blood pressure and hypercholesterolemia.  相似文献

Patients with diabetes experience increased cardiovascular risk that is not fully explained by deficient glycemic control or traditional cardiovascular risk factors such as smoking and hypercholesterolemia. Asymptomatic patients with diabetes show structural and functional vascular damage that includes impaired vasodilation, arterial stiffness, increased intima-media thickness and calcification of the arterial wall. Subclinical vascular injury associated with diabetes predicts subsequent manifestations of cardiovascular disease, such as ischemic heart disease, peripheral artery disease and stroke. Noninvasive detection of subclinical vascular disease is commonly used to estimate cardiovascular risk associated to diabetes. Longitudinal studies in normotensive subjects show that arterial stiffness at baseline is associated with a greater risk for future hypertension independently of established risk factors. In patients with type 2 diabetes, vascular disease begins to develop during the latent phase of insulin resistance, long before the clinical diagnosis of diabetes. In contrast, patients with type 1 diabetes do not manifest vascular injury when they are first diagnosed due to insulin deficiency, as they lack the preceding period of insulin resistance. These findings suggest that insulin resistance plays an important role in the development of early vascular disease associated with diabetes. Cross-sectional and prospective studies confirm that insulin resistance is associated with subclinical vascular injury in patients with diabetes, independently of standard cardiovascular risk factors. Asymptomatic vascular disease associated with diabetes begins to occur early in life having been documented in children and adolescents. Insulin resistance should be considered a therapeutic target in order to prevent the vascular complications associated with diabetes.  相似文献

Background and aimObese subjects are at high risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and diabetes (T2D) due to insulin resistance (IR). Since high glucose levels are as toxic as lipids for hepatic metabolism, we hypothesize that altered response to oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is associated to more severe NAFLD with significant/advanced liver damage.Methods and resultsWe studied 90 subjects with morbid obesity (73F/17M, BMI = 43.2 ± 5,9 kg/m2) undergoing bariatric surgery and intraoperative liver biopsy, and measured HbA1c, HOMA-IR (fasting Glucose x Insulin/22.5), OGTT glucose and insulin profile, and calculated OGIS (muscle insulin sensitivity), hepatic-IR (glucose [AUC0-30] x insulin [AUC0-30]) during OGTT, insulin response as (insulin [dAUC0-120]/glucose [dAUC0-120] or Insulinogenic Index (IGI = (I30–I0)/(G30-G0)). Patients were divided in 3 groups according to liver biopsy: A (no-NAFLD, 23%), B (simple steatosis (SS), 53%) and C (NASH, 24%) with similar age, gender and BMI. Diabetes was 0% in no-NAFLD, 13% in SS, 35% in NASH. During OGTT, OGIS decreased from A to C (422 vs 360 vs 338, p < 0.01). Increased insulin concentrations, HbA1c, HOMA-IR and OGIS, not Hep-IR, were strongly associated to hepatic steatosis (p = 0.03, p = 0.0001 and p = 0.01 respectively). Hepatic fibrosis stage was mild as most of the patients had fibrosis grade-1 (69% vs. 8% no fibrosis) and associated to fasting insulin, HbA1c and HOMA-IR. dAUC-I/dAUC-G was similar in the 3 groups, while only AUC-I was strongly associated to steatosis (r = 0.35, p = 0.005), but not to fibrosis.ConclusionsIn morbid obesity indexes of IR, and not of insulin response, are markers of histological severity of liver disease.  相似文献

Background and aimFrailty phenotype (FP) is very common in heart failure (HF) and both syndromes worsen one another. The aim of this study is to first describe FP in a sample of Portuguese patients with HF, and to analyse its association with nutritional and clinical statuses, namely, muscle mass, obesity and functional class.Methods and resultsIn this cross-sectional study, a sample of 136 outpatients with HF (24–81 years, 33.8% women) were randomly selected from the appointments' listings of a HF and Transplant clinic in a Portuguese University Hospital. FP was assessed according to Fried et al. muscle mass was estimated from the mid-upper arm muscle circumference; weight status was assessed using the body mass index; HF functional classes were registered. The association between participants' characteristics and FP categories was analysed using logistic ordinal regression. The frequency of pre-frailty and frailty is 57.4% and 15.4%, respectively. Within frail individuals, 52.4% were under the age of 65. In multivariable analysis, frailty was positively associated with age 70 or older (OR = 3.44) and obesity (OR = 2.66), and negatively associated with muscle mass (OR = 0.77) and HF functional classes I (OR = 0.14) or II (OR = 0.29).ConclusionMuscle mass seems to be an important predictor of frailty in patients with HF and should be taken into account when designing intervention plans that allow for reverting or modifying frailty and pre-frailty. Younger patients should be monitored for the presence and evolution of FP.  相似文献

Background and aimsMetabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is increasingly recognized as a systematic disease rather than just a liver disease alone, which raises concerns about its long-term impact on different populations. This study aimed to clarify the effects of MAFLD on long-term outcomes among different cardiovascular risk-stratified populations.Methods and resultsEligible individuals in the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES Ⅲ, 1988–1994) were enrolled. Participants were classified into low, intermediate, or high cardiovascular-risk populations according to the Framingham general equations. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox regression models were used to investigate the association between MAFLD and long-term outcomes in different cardiovascular-risk populations.A total of 8897 adults were enrolled in the final analysis. The median ages in the non-MAFLD and MAFLD groups were 44 and 49 years old, respectively. During a median follow-up of 22.8 years, a total of 2991 deaths were recorded, including 1694 deaths (30.3%) in non-MAFLD and 1297 deaths (39.2%) in MAFLD (P < 0.001). In the low cardiovascular-risk population, MAFLD individuals had increased all-cause mortality than non-MAFLD individuals (HR = 1.206, 95% CI:1.0338-1.400, P = 0.014). However, similar results were not observed in intermediate or high-cardiovascular-risk individuals. Further analysis of cause-specific mortality suggested that MAFLD was associated with higher cancer-related mortality in the low-risk population (HR = 1.313, 95% CI:1.000-1.725, P = 0.049).ConclusionsMAFLD was associated with increased all-cause mortality among individuals with low cardiovascular risk, rather than those with an intermediate or high cardiovascular risk.  相似文献

BackgroundAdherence Starts with Knowledge-12 (ASK-12) is a useful indicator of drug adherence. In this study, we analyzed patient background including social and psychological factors in a low-adherence group of patients with asthma defined using ASK-12.MethodsFrom a questionnaire survey for patients with asthma from the Niigata Prefecture, Japan, conducted in the fall of 2016, we enrolled patients who answered all ASK-12 items and underwent a measured respiratory function test within 1 year. The low-adherence group (ASK-12 ≥ 28) was compared with the control group (ASK-12 < 28), and we conducted a cluster analysis of the low-adherence group.ResultsThere were 170 patients in the low-adherence group and 402 patients in the control group. There was a significant difference between age, gender, working status, smoking history, the percentage of forced expiratory volume in one second (%FEV1), asthma control test (ACT), and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) score between the two groups. Logistic analysis revealed that working status (working), % FEV1 (<90%), and PHQ-9 score (>5) were independent factors for the low-adherence group. The cluster analysis identified three clusters in the low-adherence group. Among these, one cluster was characterized by elderly males with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and another by middle-aged nonsmoking females with a depression tendency, had problems with asthma control.ConclusionsSeveral factors were considered to be attributed to low drug-adherence. There were several phenotypes in the low-adherence population correlated with incomplete asthma control. Intervention with drug adherence should be a future goal for asthma treatment.  相似文献

Background and aimsTriglyceride glucose (TyG) index is considered a new surrogate marker of insulin resistance that associated with the development of vascular disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of TyG index in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).Methods and resultsA total of 3181 patients with AMI were included in the analysis. Patients were stratified into 2 groups according to their TyG index levels: the TyG index <8.88 group and the TyG index ≥8.88 group. The incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) during a median of 33.3-month follow-up were recorded. Multivariable Cox regression models revealed that the TyG index was positively associated with all-cause death [HR (95% CI): 1.51 (1.10,2.06), p = 0.010], cardiac death [HR (95% CI): 1.68 (1.19,2.38), p = 0.004], revascularization [HR (95% CI): 1.50 (1.16,1.94), p = 0.002], cardiac rehospitalization [HR (95% CI): 1.25 (1.05,1.49), p = 0.012], and composite MACEs [HR (95% CI): 1.19 (1.01,1.41), p = 0.046] in patients with AMI. The independent predictive effect of TyG index on composite MACEs was mainly reflected in the subgroups of male gender and smoker. The area under the curve (AUC) of the TyG index predicting the occurrence of MACEs in AMI patients was 0.602 [95% CI 0.580,0.623; p < 0.001].ConclusionHigh TyG index levels appeared to be associated with an increased risk of MACEs in patients with AMI. The TyG index might be a valid predictor of cardiovascular outcomes of patients with AMI.Trial registrationRetrospectively registered.  相似文献

ObjectiveVitamin B12 deficiency among patients with heart failure (HF) may have been underestimated. High serum levels of methylmalonic acid (MMA) have been identified in several studies as an early indicator of vitamin B12 deficiency. Furthermore, MMA seems to constitute a biomarker of oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. There are scarce data regarding vitamin B12 and MMA in patients with HF. The aim of this study was to investigate vitamin B12 and MMA serum levels in patients with HF.MethodsOne hundred five consecutive patients admitted to our hospital with symptoms and signs of acute decompensated HF were included in the study. Demographic and clinical characteristics as well as comorbidities and medical treatment before hospital admission were recorded. Transthoracic echocardiography was performed in all patients. Blood samples were collected during the first 24 hours of hospitalization and measured for complete blood count, biochemical profile, vitamin B12, N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide, and MMA levels. Finally, 51 healthy individuals constituted the control group.ResultsA total of 43.8% of patients with HF had elevated MMA levels, but only 10.5% had overt vitamin B12 deficiency, defined as serum cobalamin levels below 189 pg/ml. Mean MMA level was higher in patients with HF than in controls (33.0 ± 9.6 vs. 19.3 ± 6.3 ng/ml; p < 0.001). This difference remained significant when adjusted for age, sex, vitamin B12, and folate serum levels and kidney function (B = 14.7 (9.6–19.7); p < 0.001). MMA levels were higher in patients with acutely decompensated chronic HF than in those with newly diagnosed acute HF (34.7 ± 10.5 vs. 30.7 ± 7.8 ng/ml; p = 0.036). Correlation analysis revealed significantly negative correlation between MMA and vitamin B12 levels only in patients without comorbidities.ConclusionPatients with HF have elevated MMA levels, independent of age, gender, HF category, or comorbidities, possibly indicating subclinical vitamin B12 deficiency. Further research is needed to investigate subclinical vitamin B12 deficiency in patients with HF and/or to clarify whether MMA constitutes a biomarker of oxidative stress.  相似文献

Background and aimsSeveral susceptibility gene variants predisposing to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) have been identified in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Evidence supports that 17-beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 13 (HSD17B13) rs72613567 plays a role in NAFLD development by affecting lipid homeostasis. Since lipid droplets may accumulate in the kidneys and contribute to renal injury, we investigated the association between the HSD17B13 rs72613567 variant and markers of renal function/injury in NAFLD.Methods and resultsWe measured estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), urinary/serum neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), and urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (u-ACR) in individuals with biopsy-proven NAFLD. Multivariable regression analyses were undertaken to examine the associations between the HSD17B13 rs72613567 variant and markers of renal function/injury. Individuals were stratified by HSD17B13 rs72613567 genotypes into ?/?, A/- and A/A groups. HSD17B13 rs72613567 genotypes were not significantly associated with eGFR and urinary/serum NGAL levels. Conversely, the prevalence of abnormal albuminuria in the A/- + A/A group was lower than in the ?/? group (4.92% vs. 19.35%, p = 0.001). Additionally, the mean u-ACR levels were lower among carriers of the A/- or A/A genotypes with coexisting hypertension or diabetes, than among those with the ?/? genotype. The risk of abnormal albuminuria (adjusted-odds ratio 0.16, p = 0.001) remained significantly lower in the A/- + A/A group after adjustment for established renal risk factors and histologic severity of NAFLD.ConclusionHSD17B13 rs72613567: A allele is associated with a lower risk of having abnormal albuminuria, but not with lower eGFR or urinary/serum NGAL levels, in patients with biopsy-proven NAFLD.  相似文献

Background and aimsUntil now, there are lack of established clinical factors allowing management of chronic heart failure (CHF) patients being at risk of cardiac cachexia (CC). The changes in soluble protein ST2 (sST2) concentrations suggest a valuable and prognostic usefulness of this biomarker in monitoring patients with CHF, especially those who potentially are prompt to develop CC. The aim of this study was to assess the potential role of sST2 in male patients with CHF under cachexia condition.Methods and result91 male patients were selected to the study group and underwent meticulous screening according to recent clinical guidelines in order to CHF and CC detection. Additionally all patients underwent assessment of body composition and sST2 testing. Patients were followed-up for 60 months. Plasma sST2 concentration was significantly increased in cachectic compared with non-cachectic patients (median: 27.40 ng/mL and 20.62 ng/mL; p < 0.001), however, in this group the EF% was reduced (mean: 34 ± 13.5% and 41 ± 14.5%; p = 0.029). Correlations between sST2 and CRP (R = 0.524; p < 0.001) and phase angle (PA) (R = ?0.513; p < 0.001) were observed. CHF patients in whose the PA value ranged in Q1 (<3.06°) and sST2 concentration ranged in Q3 (>33.15 ng/mL) had higher risk of death (HR = 9.62 and 8.60, respectively). The death rate was the highest in cachectic group with the simultaneous presence of sST2-Q3 and PA-Q1 (87.5% of this group). They had almost 7-fold higher risk of death during follow-up period (HR = 6.89, p < 0.001).ConclusionssST2 demonstrates potential utility in male patients with CHF under cachexia condition in prediction death rate.  相似文献

The rising prevalence of T2DM poses a serious threat to human health and the viability of many health care systems around the world. Non-adherence to therapeutic in the T2DM is high, and Brazilian studies of public heath for to identify new variables are scares. The present study explored cardiovascular consequences associated with compliance and non-adherence among T2DM in Brazilian patients seeking medical care in Brazilian basic health unit clinics.MethodsThis is a cross-sectional study carried out in a city the interior of Sao Paulo state, with patients with T2DM, being municipal PHS users. Data were collected from the computerized system of the municipality for a one single researcher and patient records, and analyzed using the IBM SPSS v.18 statistical package. The response variables was categorized in adherent MGT (>80) and non-adherent MGT (≤80).ResultsThe mean age of patients was 63.6 ± 9.5 with predominance for the sex male 66.4% and 42% of patients with T2DM do not adherence to treatment. We found an associated odds ratio (OR) = 2.3 (1.1–5.1) between heart failure and non-adherence in patients with T2DM.ConclusionHeart failure is a factor associated with non-adherence to treatment in patients with T2DM and in the practice clinical, the screening for heart failure and interventions may improve adherence to pharmacotherapy.  相似文献

Backgrounds and aimsThe cardiovascular risk conferred by concomitant prediabetes in hypertension is unclear. We aimed to examine the impact of prediabetes on incident heart failure (HF) and all-cause mortality, and to describe time in therapeutic blood pressure range (TTR) in a hypertensive real-world primary care population.Methods and resultsIn this retrospective cohort study, 9628 hypertensive individuals with a fasting plasma glucose (FPG) in 2006–2010 but no diabetes, cardiovascular or renal disease were followed to 2016; median follow-up was 9 years. Prediabetes was defined as FPG 5.6–6.9 mmol/L, and in a secondary analysis as 6.1–6.9 mmol/L. Study outcomes were HF and all-cause mortality. Hazard ratios (HR) were compared for prediabetes with normoglycemia using Cox regression. All blood pressure values from 2001 to the index date (first FPG in 2006–2010) were used to calculate TTR. At baseline, 51.4% had prediabetes. The multivariable-adjusted HR (95% confidence intervals) was 0.86 (0.67–1.09) for HF and 1.06 (0.90–1.26) for all-cause mortality. For FPG defined as 6.1–6.9 mmol/L, the multivariable-adjusted HR were 1.05 (0.80–1.39) and 1.42 (1.19–1.70), respectively. The prediabetic group had a lower TTR (p < 0.05).ConclusionsPrediabetes was not independently associated with incident HF in hypertensive patients without diabetes, cardiovascular or renal disease. However, prediabetes was associated with all-cause mortality when defined as FPG 6.1–6.9 mmol/L (but not as 5.6–6.9 mmol/L). TTR was lower in the prediabetic group, suggesting room for improved blood pressure to reduce incident heart failure in prediabetes.  相似文献

Background and aimsLow serum creatinine (Cr) to cystatin C (cysC) ratio has been suggested to be associated with low muscle mass and strength and poor prognosis in various chronic disease. We investigated the associations of CCR with sarcopenia and carotid plaque score (PS) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Methods and resultsA total of 1577 patients with type 2 diabetes were enrolled. High PS was defined as PS ≥ 3. Sarcopenia was assessed by the measurement of appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM) and grip strength (GS). Compared to the highest CCR group, the lowest tertile group was older; had higher C-reactive protein levels, CIMT, and PS, but lower cysC-based estimated glomerular filtration rate (cysC-eGFR), ASM/BMI, and GS. Positive correlations between CCR and ASM/BMI (r = 0.239 in men and 0.303 in women, p < 0.001) and GS (r = 0.282 in men and 0.270 in women, p < 0.001) were observed in both genders. Odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for high PS after adjusting for age and sex were 1.22 (0.92–1.61, p = 0.18) in the middle and 1.74 (1.31–2.30, p < 0.001) in the lowest tertiles, respectively, with those of the lowest tertile remaining significant after further adjusting for multiple confounders.ConclusionsLow CCR was independently associated with sarcopenia and high PS in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially after adjusting for ASM/BMI and GS.  相似文献

Background and aimAlong with the increasing evidence of the cardioprotective effects of the Mediterranean Diet (MD), the scientific interest and advocacy of dietary variety as a potentially healthy eating habit gradually faded, until its complete oblivion in the latest European cardiovascular prevention guidelines. Our study aims to investigate whether dietary variety adds to the “Mediterranean-ness” of the diet in protecting against coronary heart disease (CHD).Methods and resultsIn this case–control Italian study, data on eating habits were collected from 178 patients with CHD and 155 healthy controls, primarily males, frequency matched for age and gender, using the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition. Adherence to MD was estimated from FFQ by the Mediterranean Diet Score (MDS), an index developed by Trichopoulou (2003) ranging from 0 to 9, with higher scores indicating a stricter adherence. Overall dietary variety was computed from FFQ as a count of single food items consumed at least once a month. Associations between MDS or overall dietary variety and coronary status were evaluated by logistic regression models adjusted for BMI, physical activity, smoking, education, and caloric intake; the Odds Ratio (OR) for CHD for each 1.5-point increase in MDS was 0.76 [IC 95% 0.59; 0.98], whereas the OR for CHD for each 15-item increase in dietary variety was 0.62 [IC 95% 0.46; 0.84]. Remarkably, adherence to MD and overall dietary variety were independently associated with a significantly reduced chance of CHD.ConclusionDietary Mediterranean-ness and overall dietary variety exhibit additive cardioprotective effects.  相似文献

Background and aimsTo examine the mediating role of adiposity on the associations of diet quality with longitudinal changes in insulin sensitivity and beta-cell function.Methods and resultsAdults at-risk for type 2 diabetes (T2D) in the PROMISE cohort had 4 assessments over 9 years (n = 442). Alternate Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) scores were used to assess diet quality. Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE) evaluated the associations between the AHEI and longitudinal changes in insulin sensitivity (HOMA2-%S and ISI) and beta-cell function (IGI/HOMA-IR and ISSI-2). The proportion of the mediating effect of waist circumference changes was estimated using the difference method. In the primary longitudinal analysis, AHEI was positively associated with insulin sensitivity and beta-cell function over time (% difference per standard deviation increase of AHEI for HOMA2-%S (β = 11.0, 95%CI 5.43–17.0), ISI (β = 10.4, 95%CI 4.35–16.8), IGI/HOMA-IR (β = 7.12, 95%CI 0.98–13.6) and ISSI-2 (β = 4.38, 95%CI 1.05–7.80), all p < 0.05). There was no significant association between AHEI and dysglycemia incidence (OR = 0.95, 95%CI 0.77–1.17). Adjustments for longitudinal changes in waist circumference substantially attenuated all associations of AHEI with insulin sensitivity and beta-cell function. Mediation analysis indicated that waist circumference mediated 73%, 70%, 83% and 81% of the association between AHEI and HOMA2-%S, ISI, IGI/HOMA-IR, and ISSI-2, respectively (all p < 0.01).ConclusionIn a Canadian population at-risk for T2D, AHEI score was positively associated with changes in insulin sensitivity and beta-cell function. These associations were substantially mediated by waist circumference, suggesting that changes in adiposity may represent an important pathway linking diet quality with risk phenotypes for T2D.  相似文献

Background and aimAlcohol consumption causes metabolic disorders and is a known risk factor for cardiovascular disease. However, some studies suggested that low level alcohol consumption improves insulin resistance. We evaluated the effects of alcohol consumption on insulin resistance using the homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR).Methods and resultsThis study included 280,194 people without diabetes who underwent comprehensive health examinations more than twice between 2011 and 2018. The levels of alcohol intake were obtained through a self-questionnaire. All subjects were divided into two groups based on the Korean standard cut-off value of HOMA-IR, 2.2. Cox proportional hazard analysis was used to assess the risk of insulin resistance according to alcohol consumption. The mean age of the study subjects was 38.2 years and 55.7% were men. During the follow-up period (median 4.13 years), HOMA-IR progressed from <2.2 to ≥2.2 in 64,443 subjects (23.0%) and improved from ≥2.2 to <2.2 in 21,673 subjects (7.7%). In the parametric survival analysis, alcohol consumption was associated with improvement of HOMA-IR (HR [95% CI], 1.09[1.03–1.14], 1.11[1.06–1.17] and 1.20[1.13–1.26], respectively). In the analysis classified according to changes in alcohol consumption amounts, increased alcohol consumption tended to prevent the progression of HOMA-IR (0.97[0.96–0.99]; p = 0.004). Background and aimsBoth the Nordic and Mediterranean diets claim to have a beneficial effect on lipid metabolism and cardiovascular prevention. The objective of this study was to compare diets consumed by children with FH at the time of diagnosis in Norway and Spain and to study their relationship with the lipid profile.Methods and resultsIn this cross-sectional study, we appraised the dietary intake in children (4–18 years old) with (n = 114) and without FH (n = 145) from Norway and Spain. We compared Nordic and Mediterranean diet composition differences and determined the association between food groups and lipid profiles.ResultsThe Spanish FH group had a higher intake of total fats (mainly monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs)), cholesterol and fibre, but a lower intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) compared to the Norwegian FH group. The Norwegian children consumed more rapeseed oil, low-fat margarine and whole grains and less olive oil, eggs, fatty fish, meat, legumes and nuts. In the Norwegian FH group, fat and MUFAs were directly correlated with total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and apolipoprotein B and inversely correlated with high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C). In Spanish children with FH, the intake of fats (mainly MUFAs) was directly associated with HDL-C and apolipoprotein A1.ConclusionsDespite a similar lipid phenotype, diets consumed by children with FH in Norway and Spain have significant differences at time of diagnosis. Nutrition advice should be more adapted to local intake patterns than on specific nutrient composition.  相似文献
