Melanocytes of a melanocytic nevus in a lymph node from a patient with a primary cutaneous melanoma associated with a small congenital nevus

Aggregates of melanocytes within the parenchyma of a supraomohyoid lymph node were found in a lymph node dissection from a 52-year-old woman who had a primary cutaneous melanoma that had arisen in association with a small congenital nevus. The melanocytes in the lymph node were interpreted to be those of a benign melanocytic nevus, and not those of malignant melanoma, based on similarities in morphologic features and immunohistochemical staining between the melanocytes in the node and those in the cutaneous congenital nevus.     

Myxomatous granulation as a feature of a subcutaneous pseudotumor

This paper presents myxomatous granulation in the sacral area as a feature of a pseudotumor. The patient was an 86-year-old male with a pseudotumor in the sacral area that may possibly have been the result of prolonged bed confinement. The initial diagnosis was lipoma. Specimen examination disclosed granulation tissue with inflammatory mixed cellular infiltrates undergoing myxomatous change. Plasma cell infiltrates were frequently present.

报告1例新生儿皮肤再生不良,患儿男,出生1h,生后即被发现左上肢皮肤缺损,分娩时无外伤史,给予0.1%利凡诺溶液及莫匹罗星软膏外用,10d后缺损处被新生组织填充,表面光滑,略凹陷,颜色较周围正常皮肤暗。     

Monilethrix: a clinicopathological illustration of a cortical defect

We describe two sisters aged 2 and 7 years, with monilethrix. The older sister was clinically less severely affected but, microscopically, the features of weathering and alternating nodes and internodes were more obvious. The younger girl had more severe alopecia, with shorter hair, but the microscopic features were less marked. Scanning-electron microscopy demonstrated only slight cuticular weathering in both cases, and evidence of breakage in the cuticle at points of no obvious cuticular pathology. Transmission-electron microscopy showed normal cuticle cells in cross-section, but an abnormal cortex. The abnormalities included areas of homogeneous non-fibrillar material, and a deviated axis of some microfibrils. We consider that these findings support the possibility that a cortical defect contributes significantly to the fragility of hair in moniiethrix. This might explain why hair with marked beading can be stronger than hair from an affected sibling with less apparent abnormality.     

Tigecycline: a review of a new glycylcycline antibiotic

Tigecycline derived from minocycline. It is part of a new class of antibiotics called glycylcyclines. Tigecycline is given intravenously and has activity against a variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial pathogens, many of which are resistant to existing antibiotics. Tigecycline successfully completed phase III trials in which it was at least equal to intravenous vancomycin and aztreonam to treat complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI), and to intravenous imipenem and cilastatin to treat complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI). Tigecycline side effects are primarily digestive upset. It should be a valuable addition to the armamentarium to treat even the most resistant pathogens.     

C5a as a mediator of cutaneous inflammation

C5a is an 11,000-dalton fragment of the fifth component of complement with potent anaphylatoxic and leukocyte chemotactic activities. Because C5a may play an important role in selected skin disorders as well as in systemic diseases with cutaneous manifestations, we have studied the clinical and histologic alterations produced by the intradermal injection of this potent soluble mediator of inflammation in human skin in vivo. These studies have outlined the biologic properties of human C5a within the context of cells resident in the skin, the cutaneous microvasculature, and interacting cellular elements of peripheral blood.     

Dermatomyofibroma: a case report of a rare disease

Dermato myofibroma is included in the group of benign cutaneous mesenchymal neoplastic lesions of fibroblastic and myofibroblastic lineage. It's a rare disease and there are approximately only one hundred cases described worldwide in the medical literature up to now. The present study reports the case of a young woman with typical clinical cutaneous lesion and histopathological diagnosis of dermato myofibroma. Special stains were carried out which showed preserved collagen fibers and immunohistochemistry was positive for vimentin and negative for actin and S100. As it is a rare disease, the histopathological findings are of great importance but clinical suspicion is possible in typical cases such as this one.
