A review of the literature on clinical teaching indicates that medical schools emphasize didactic teaching of facts. Interpersonal skills, problem solving skills and cultivation of attitudes are neglected. However, the literature also described the skills of 'good' clinical teachers, and enumerates them. Programmes attempting to develop students' interpersonal skills and problem solving skills are reported. Finally, areas for further practice and study in clinical teaching are recommended. 相似文献

Abstract: Musculoskeletal disorders remain a common disability suffered by Australians, but the question of who should treat them remains a contentious issue as the first centenary of the original chiropractic adjustment approaches. This paper, part of a longitudinal study of the role of chiropractic in the Australian health system, analyses this ongoing debate. Recent events are analysed here in this commentary on the politics of health care in this field. These include meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of spinal manipulation for the treatment of lower back pain, recent legal action in the United States, and the recent epistle against Australian chiropractors published by the Australian Medical Association. 相似文献

Physicians have traditionally paid closer attention to the competition from other medical practitioners, but have ignored competition arising from "alternative therapies" such as hypnosis, acupuncture, or chiropractic. The purpose of this article is to survey the market segment served by one such unconventional practitioner, i.e., chiropractors, with the intention of determining its likelihood as a viable market to be pursued by M.D.'s. 相似文献

Chiropractic is the best established of the alternative health care professions. Although marginalized for much of the 20th century, it has entered the mainstream of health care, gaining both legitimacy and access to third-party payers. However, the profession's efforts to validate the effectiveness of spinal manipulative therapy, its principal modality, have yielded only modest and often contrary results. At the same time, reimbursement is shrinking, the number of practitioners is growing, and competition from other healing professions is increasing. The profession's efforts to establish a role in primary care are meeting resistance, and its attempts to broaden its activities in alternative medicine have inherent limitations. Although patients express a high level of satisfaction with chiropractic treatment and politicians are sympathetic to it, this may not be enough as our nation grapples to define the health care system that it can afford. 相似文献

Supervision is a dynamic and ever-changing process. Excellent employees can be trained to be outstanding supervisors if the competencies and skills of the supervisory process are clarified. Supervision is a successful art that can be learned and enhanced if appropriate supervisory skills are identified, taught, and learned. Supervision is too important in developing the future health care work force to be left to chance. 相似文献

In the last decade, nurse scholars have focused extensively on the nature of nursing and its relationship to art and science. This emphasis has also been accompanied by an increasing literature on nursing ethics. In spite of this growing interest, the relationship of nursing art and nursing ethics has been left unclear. This paper proposes that nursing must be considered as a practical art because this conception explicates the relationship of nursing art and nursing ethics. It is based on the thesis that nursing art is subordinated to nursing ethics and as such is a moral art. Different conceptions of nursing art (craft and fine art) will be explored to show their limits. This will be followed by the conception of nursing art as a practical art. 相似文献

This article provides an overview of clinical data warehousing and its historical perspective from the early 1990s to present. It uses a survey of five Houston-area healthcare leaders to answer questions such as why commercially available solutions may be more suitable as their enterprise information systems vs. developing them in-house. Which products and vendors are servicing these organizations? What are these organizations looking for when making such strategic purchases? In general, this work is intended as a guideline for healthcare entities to further investigate the commercial clinical data warehousing market and get a feel for industry trends. 相似文献
