The corrosion inhibition activity of a newly synthesized Schiff base (SB) from 3-acetyl-4-hydroxy-6-methyl-(2H)-pyran-2-one and 2,2''-(ethylenedioxy)diethylamine was investigated on the corrosion of mild steel in 1 M HCl solution using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic techniques. Ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) and Raman spectroscopic techniques were used to study the chemical interactions between SB and mild steel surface. SB was found to be a relatively good inhibitor of mild steel corrosion in 1 M HCl. The inhibition efficiency increases with increase in concentration of SB. The inhibition activity of SB was ascribed to its adsorption onto mild steel surface, through physisorption and chemisorption, and described by the Langmuir adsorption model. Quantum chemical calculations indicated the presence of atomic sites with potential nucleophilic and electrophilic characteristics with which SB can establish electronic interactions with the charged mild steel surface.  相似文献

Tea tree extract, containing antioxidant constituents α-terpineol, terpinen-4-ol, and α-terpinene, has a wide range of applications in the cosmetic, food, and pharmaceutical industries. In this study, tea tree extract showed an anticorrosive effect under 1 M HCl solution on mild steel (MS) and 304 stainless steel (STS). Uniform corrosion for MS and pitting corrosion for STS at 298 K were retarded, with inhibition efficiencies of 77% and 86%, respectively. The inhibition of uniform and pitting corrosion was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and laser scanning confocal microscopy in terms of surface roughness and pitting morphologies. The most effective constituent contributing to the inhibitory performance of tea tree extract was revealed to be α-terpineol, with an inhibition efficiency of 83%. The adsorption of tea tree extract was confirmed by surface characterization analysis using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Interestingly, G- and D-peaks of Raman spectra were detected from the inhibited steels, and this finding is the first example in the corrosion inhibition field. The anticorrosion mechanism can be explained by the formation of organic-Fe complexes on the corroded steel surface via electron donor and acceptor interactions in the presence of an oxygen atom of the hydroxyl group or ether of organic inhibitors.  相似文献

A new coumarin derivative, N,N′-((2E,2′E)-2,2′-(1,4-phenylenebis(methanylylidene))bis(hydrazinecarbonothioyl))bis(2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carboxamide) PMBH, was synthesized and its chemical structure was elucidated and confirmed using spectroscopic techniques (Infrared spectroscopy IR, Proton nuclear magnetic resonance, 1H-NMR and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance 13C-NMR). The corrosion inhibition effect of PMBH on mild steel in 1.0 M HCl was investigated using corrosion potential (ECORR), potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM) measurements. The obtained results indicated that PMBH has promising inhibitive effects on the corrosion of mild steel in 1.0 M HCl across all of the conditions examined. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to investigate the morphology of the mild steel before and after immersion in 1.0 M HCl solution containing 0.5 mM of PMBH. Surface analysis revealed improvement of corrosion resistance in presence of PMBH.  相似文献

Corrosion inhibitory effects of new synthesized compound namely 5,5’-((1Z,1’Z)-(1,4-phenylenebis(methanylylidene))bis(azanylylidene))bis(1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thiol) (PBB) on mild steel in 1.0 M HCl was investigated at different temperatures using open circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Results showed that PBB inhibited mild steel corrosion in acid solution and indicated that the inhibition efficiencies increased with the concentration of inhibitor, but decreased proportionally with temperature. Changes in impedance parameters suggested the adsorption of PBB on the mild steel surface, leading to the formation of protective films.  相似文献

Most studies on the corrosion inhibition performance of organic molecules and (nano)materials were conducted within “carbon steel/1.0 M HCl” solution system using similar experimental and theoretical methods. As such, the numerous research findings in this system are sufficient to conduct comparative studies to select the best-suited inhibitor type that generally refers to a type of inhibitor with low concentration/high inhibition efficiency, nontoxic properties, and a simple and cost-economic synthesis process. Before data collection, to help readers have a clear understanding of some crucial elements for the evaluation of corrosion inhibition performance, we introduced the mainstay of corrosion inhibitors studies involved, including the corrosion and inhibition mechanism of carbon steel/HCl solution systems, evaluation methods of corrosion inhibition efficiency, adsorption isotherm models, adsorption thermodynamic parameters QC calculations, MD/MC simulations, and the main characterization techniques used. In the classification and statistical analysis section, organic compounds or (nano)materials as corrosion inhibitors were classified into six types according to their molecular structural characteristics, molecular size, and compound source, including drug molecules, ionic liquids, surfactants, plant extracts, polymers, and polymeric nanoparticles. We outlined the important conclusions obtained from recent literature and listed the evaluation methods, characterization techniques, and contrastable experimental data of these types of inhibitors when used for carbon steel corrosion in 1.0 M HCl solution. Finally, statistical analysis was only performed based on these data from carbon steel/1.0 M HCl solution system, from which some conclusions can contribute to reducing the workload of the acquisition of useful information and provide some reference directions for the development of new corrosion inhibitors.  相似文献

2-(1-methyl-4-((E)-(2-methylbenzylidene)amino)-2-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-3(2H)-ylidene)-hydrazineecarbothioamide (HCB) was synthesized as a corrosion inhibitor from the reaction of 4-aminoantipyrine, thiosemicarbazide and 2-methylbenzaldehyde. The corrosion inhibitory effects of HCB on mild steel in 1.0 M HCl were investigated using potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results showed that HCB inhibited mild steel corrosion in acidic solution and inhibition efficiency increased with an increase in the concentration of the inhibitor. The inhibition efficiency was up to 96.5% at 5.0 mM. Changes in the impedance parameters suggested that HCB adsorbed on the surface of mild steel, leading to the formation of a protective film. The novel corrosion inhibitor synthesized in the present study was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectral data.  相似文献

New Mannich bases, 3-morpholino-1-phenylpropan-1-one (MPO) and 3-morpholino-1-phenyl-3-(pyridin-4-yl) propan-1-one (MPPO), were synthesized, characterized, and studied as corrosion inhibitors for N80 steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution using weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and FT-IR spectroscopy. The inhibition efficiency increases with increasing inhibitor concentrations, and the corrosion inhibition efficiency of the MPO and MPPO could reach 90.3% and 91.4%, respectively, at a concentration of 300 ppm at 305 K. The effect of the temperature on the corrosion inhibition behavior of inhibitors was discussed. Electrochemical tests showed that the synthesized inhibitors are mixed. The EIS test results showed that the presence of MPO and MPPO reduced the double-layer capacitance in the corrosion process, thereby reducing the charge transfer resistance. The SEM and EDX results showed that the MPO and MPPO formed a uniform adsorption film on the surface of the N80 steel. The adsorption mechanism of the inhibitors was simulated with different adsorption models and the results showed that the inhibitors were the chemisorbed type. The results of the FT-IR spectroscopy proved that the inhibitor interacted with metal atoms on the steel surface.  相似文献

A gemini surfactant imidazoline type, namely N-(3-(2-fatty-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-1-yl) propyl) fatty amide, has been obtained from the fatty acids contained in the mango seed and used as a CO2 corrosion inhibitor for API X-120 pipeline steel. Employed techniques involved potentiodynamic polarization curves, linear polarization resistance, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. These tests were supported by detailed scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy studies. It was found that obtained gemini surfactant greatly decreases the steel corrosion rate by retarding both anodic and cathodic electrochemical reactions, with an efficiency that increases with an increase in its concentration. Gemini surfactant inhibits the corrosion of steel by the adsorption mechanism, and it is adsorbed on to the steel surface according to a Langmuir model in a chemical type of adsorption. SEM and Raman results shown the presence of the inhibitor on the steel surface.  相似文献

Three ionic liquids (ILs)—1-butyl-1-methyl-pyrrolidinium Imidazolate (BMPyrIM), 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium Imidazolate (BMImIM), and bis(1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium Imidazolate) (BBMImIM)—were synthesized and examined experimentally and theoretically as potential inhibitors for mild steel corrosion in HCl (1.0 M) solution. To our knowledge, two of the ILs successfully synthesized in our laboratory named BMPyrIM and BBMImIM are novel. Different electrochemical (potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)), surface and structural (scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)) and theoretical (Density functional theory (DFT)) techniques were utilized to confirm their use as efficient environmentally safe inhibitors. These ionic liquids were designed to study the cation effect (imidazolium and pyrrolidinium) and the dimeric effect of the imidazolium-based IL. A pronounced inhibiting effect was recorded using the optimum concentration (5 × 10−3 M) of BBMImIM with protection efficiency of 98.6% compared to 94.3% and 92.4% for BMImIM and BMPyrIM, respectively. The investigated ILs act as a mixed-type corrosion inhibitors and their protection obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The results obtained by SEM, EDS and AFM confirmed the mild steel protection by the formation of protective film of the ILs on the steel surface resulted in less damaged surfaces compared with the blank solution. Furthermore, quantum chemical calculations illustrated the electronic structure of the investigated ILs and their optimized adsorptiοn configurations on mild steel surface. The findings from the different techniques helped to provide a supported interpretation of the inhibition mechanism.  相似文献

The efficiency of Schiff base derived from 4-aminoantipyrine, namely 2-(1,5-dimethyl-4-(2-methylbenzylidene)amino)-2-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-3(2H)-ylidene) hydrazinecarbothioamide as a corrosion inhibitor on mild steel in 1.0 M H2SO4 was investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization (PD) and electrochemical frequently modulation (EFM) in addition to the adsorption isotherm, corrosion kinetic parameters and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that this inhibitor behaved as a good corrosion inhibitor, even at low concentration, with a mean efficiency of 93% and, also, a reduction of the inhibition efficiency as the solution temperature increases. A polarization technique and EIS were tested for different concentrations and different temperatures to reveal that this compound is adsorbed on the mild steel, therefore blocking the active sites, and the adsorption follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. The excellent inhibition effectiveness of 2-(1,5-dimethyl-4-(2-methylbenzylidene)amino)-2-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-3(2H)-ylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide was also verified by scanning electron microscope (SEM).  相似文献

Uniform polyaniline (PANI) nanotubes were synthesized by a self-assembly method under relatively dilute hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy were employed to characterize the morphology and molecular structure of the PANI products. SEM images show that the PANI nanotubes have uniform morphology and form compact coating on the substrate surface. For comparison, aggregated PANI was also synthesized by conventional polymerization method. The performance of the PANI products on carbon steel was studied using eletrochemical measurement and immersion corrosion experiment in 3.5 wt% NaCl aqueous solution. The corrosion potentials of carbon steel samples increase by 0.196 V and 0.060 V after coated with PANI nanotubes and aggregated PANI, respectively, and the corrosion currents density decrease by about 76.32% and 36.64%, respectively. The 6-day immersion experiment showed that the carbon steel samples coated by PANI nanotubes showed more excellent anticorrosion performance, because the more compact coating formed by PANI nanotubes may inhibit the corrosion process between the anodic and cathodic.  相似文献

The carbon steel is used in many areas due to its good mechanical properties; however, its low corrosion resistance presents a very important problem, for example, when carbon steel carabiners are used in the petroleum industry or navy, the possibility of an accident is higher due to carabiner failure. This phenomenon could occur as a consequence of the corrosion process which negatively affects mechanical properties. This paper study the possibility to improve its corrosion resistance by depositing on its surface a phosphate layer and a paint layer, and also aims to analyze the immersion behavior in saltwater of carbon steel, phosphate carbon steel, and phosphate and painted carbon steel. According to this study, by coating the carbon steel with a phosphate or paint layer, a higher polarization resistance is obtained in saltwater. Moreover, by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), it was observed that the corrosion rate decreases with the increase of the immersion time. Meanwhile scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) revealed that the main compounds which formed on the sample’s surface were iron oxides or hydroxy-oxides, after immersion for a longer period. The overall results show that all types of deposited layers increase the corrosion resistance of C45 steel.  相似文献

The inhibition of mild steel corrosion in 1 M HCl solution by some ionic liquids (ILs) namely, 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate [HMIM][TfO], 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate [HMIM][BF4], 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate [HMIM][PF6], and 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide [HMIM][I] was investigated using electrochemical measurements, spectroscopic analyses and quantum chemical calculations. All the ILs showed appreciably high inhibition efficiency. At 303 K, the results of electrochemical measurements indicated that the studied ILs are mixed-type inhibitors. The adsorption studies showed that all the four ILs adsorb spontaneously on steel surface with [HMIM][TfO], [HMIM][BF4] and [HMIM][I] obeying Langmuir adsorption isotherm, while [HMIM][PF6] conformed better with Temkin adsorption isotherm. Spectroscopic analyses suggested the formation of Fe/ILs complexes. Some quantum chemical parameters were calculated to corroborate experimental results.  相似文献

The electrochemical activity of a carbon fiber was characterized at different potentials in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution, and the fiber cylindrical surface changed by polarization at different potentials was revealed by SEM, AFM, optical microscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and XRD. The results showed that the carbon fiber exhibited different electrochemical activities at some polarization potentials; within a 3V potential range the anodic and cathodic polarization current densities stepped up by more than 5 orders of magnitude, and the carbon fiber (CF) surface dramatically changed with time. Strong anodic polarization appeared to facilitate the breakdown of C-C covalent bonds in the carbon fiber and enhance the amorphization of the fiber surface.  相似文献

The inhibition behavior of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and Gum Arabic (GA) on the corrosion of 316L stainless steel in CNTs–water nanofluid under the effect of different temperatures was investigated by electrochemical methods and surface analysis techniques. Thereby, 316L stainless steel samples were exposed to CNTs–water nanofluid under temperatures of 22, 40, 60 and 80 °C. Two concentrations of the CNTs (0.1 and 1.0 wt.% CNTs) were homogenously dispersed in deionized water using the surfactant GA and tested using three corrosion tests conducted in series: open circuit test, polarization resistance test, and potentiodynamic scans. These tests were also conducted on the same steel but in solutions of GA-deionized water only. Tests revealed that corrosion increases with temperature and concentration of the CNTs–water nanofluids, having the highest corrosion rate of 32.66 milli-mpy (milli-mil per year) for the 1.0 wt.% CNT nanofluid at 80 °C. In addition, SEM observations showed pits formation around areas of accumulated CNTs that added extra roughness to the steel sample. The activation energy analysis and optical surface observations have revealed that CNTs can desorb at higher temperatures, which makes the surface more vulnerable to corrosion attack.  相似文献

Plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII) of nitrogen is low-temperature surface technology which enables the improvement of tribological properties without a deterioration of the corrosion behavior of austenitic stainless steels. In this paper the corrosion properties of PIII-treated AISI 316L stainless steel surfaces are evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization (PP) and exposure immersion tests (all carried out in the 0.9 wt. % NaCl solution at 37 ± 0.5 °C) and compared with a non-treated surface. Results of the three performed independent corrosion tests consistently confirmed a significant increase in the corrosion resistance after two doses of PIII nitriding.  相似文献

In this paper, we used two mass-produced industrial technologies, namely, thermal spraying and anodization methods, to enhance the surface characteristics of AISI 1045 medium carbon steel for use in special environments or products. The anodic film can effectively improve the surface properties of carbon steel. A sequence of treatments of the carbon steel substrate surface that consist of sandblasting, spraying the aluminum film, annealing, hot rolling, cleaning, grinding, and polishing can increase the quality of the anodized film. This paper proposes an anodization process for the surface of carbon steel to increase the corrosion resistance, hardness, color diversification, and electrical resistance. The resulting surface improves the hardness (from 170 HV to 524 HV), surface roughness (from 1.26 to 0.15 μm), coloring (from metal color to various colors), and corrosion resistance (from rusty to corrosion resistant). The electrochemical corrosion studies showed that the AISI 1045 steel surface with a hard anodized film had a lower corrosion current density of 105.9 A/cm2 and a higher impedance of 9000 ohm than those of naked AISI 1045 steel (10−4.2 A/cm2 and 150 ohm) in HCl gas.  相似文献

Four types of ultra-low carbon bainite (ULCB) steels were obtained using unified production methods to investigate solely the effect of niobium content on the performance of ULCB steels. Tensile testing, low-temperature impact toughness testing, corrosion weight-loss method, polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and the corresponding organizational observations were realized. The results indicate that the microstructure of the four steels comprise granular bainite and quite a few martensite/austenite (M/A) elements. The niobium content affects bainite morphology and the size, quantity, and distribution of M/A elements. The elongation, yield strength, and tensile strength of the four types of ULCB steels are above 20%, 500 MPa, and 650 MPa, respectively. The impact toughness of the four types of ULCB steels at −40 °C is lower than 10 J. Steel with Nb content of 0.0692% has better comprehensive property, and maximum charge transfer resistance in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution at the initial corrosion stage. The corrosion products on the surface of steel with higher niobium content are much smoother and denser than those steel with lower niobium content after 240 h of corrosion. The degree of corrosion decreases gradually with the increase of niobium content at the later stage of corrosion.  相似文献

Various electrochemical methods were used to understand the behavior of steel buried in unsaturated artificial soil in the presence of cathodic protection (CP) applied at polarization levels corresponding to correct CP or overprotection. Carbon steel coupons were buried for 90 days, and the steel/electrolyte interface was studied at various exposure times. The coupons remained at open circuit potential (OCP) for the first seven days before CP was applied at potentials of −1.0 and −1.2 V vs. Cu/CuSO4 for the remaining 83 days. Voltammetry revealed that the corrosion rate decreased from ~330 µm yr−1 at OCP to ~7 µm yr−1 for an applied potential of −1.0 V vs. Cu/CuSO4. CP effectiveness increased with time due to the formation of a protective layer on the steel surface. Raman spectroscopy revealed that this layer mainly consisted of magnetite. EIS confirmed the progressive increase of the protective ability of the magnetite-rich layer. At −1.2 V vs. Cu/CuSO4, the residual corrosion rate of steel fluctuated between 8 and 15 µm yr−1. EIS indicated that the protective ability of the magnetite-rich layer deteriorated after day 63. As water reduction proved significant at this potential, it is proposed that the released H2 bubbles damage the protective layer.  相似文献

The development of environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors has become a research hotspot. Aiming at the potential corrosion inhibition effect of perilla seed extract on Q235 carbon steel, the corrosion inhibition effect was quantitatively evaluated by various research methods, and the effective corrosion inhibition composition and mechanism were discussed. The research methods include potentiodynamic polarization curve method, HPLC-MS, FT-IR, XPS and chemical calculation. The experimental results show that the inhibitor prepared from perilla seed extract is a mixed inhibitor, and its adsorption behavior accords with Langmuir adsorption theory and its adsorption free energy is −22.70 kJ/mol. Combined with the experimental results and theoretical calculation, the effective corrosion inhibiting components are luteolin and apigenin. Theoretical calculation shows that both of them are adsorbed parallel to the surface of carbon steel to form thin films. The adsorption mechanism is that carbonyl O atoms in luteolin and apigenin hybridize with the 3 d empty orbit of Fe. From the point of view of quantum chemistry, the smaller the HOMO value and the energy gap value, the better the adsorption of corrosion inhibitor on the surface of carbon steel. From the point of view of molecular dynamics simulation, the greater the absolute value of adsorption energy, the better the adsorption of corrosion inhibitor on carbon steel surface.  相似文献
