Background: Prostatic urethral stents are effective in relieving obstructions caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). However, migration of these stents occurs frequently.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of a flared stent for decreasing the migration rate in comparison with a straight stent in a canine prostatic urethral model.

Material and Methods: The flared stent (15 mm in diameter and 20 mm in length) was flared up to 19 mm at both ends to prevent migration. A straight stent with the same size was straight without flaring. Both stents were made of a nitinol wire filament and covered with an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) membrane. The flared stent was inserted in the prostatic urethra of 10 dogs (group 1) and the straight stent in the prostatic urethra of 12 dogs (group 2). Follow-up retrograde urethrography (RUG) was performed 1, 4, and 8 weeks after stent placement. Fisher's exact test was used to compare the migration rate between the two groups. When stent migration occurred during the follow-up period, the same type of stent was inserted again.

Results: Three of 10 (30.0%) flared stents migrated into the urinary bladder between 1 week and 4 weeks after placement. Seven of 12 (58.3%) straight stents migrated into the urinary bladder 1 (n = 3), 4 (n = 1), and 8 (n = 3) weeks following placement. The flared stent group showed lower migration rate than the straight stent group, but the migration rate did not reach statistical significance (P = 0.231). After the second stent placement, one of three (33.3%) flared stents migrated again after 4 weeks and two of seven straight stents (28.6%) after 1 week.

Conclusion: Although the migration rate was not statistically significant, the flaring of the stent seemed to reduce the migration rate in comparison with straight stents in a canine prostatic urethral model. However, the migration rate of the flared stent was still high, and further developments are required to decrease migration rate.  相似文献

Background: Magnetic resonance arthrography is a well-established diagnostic method in degenerative and traumatic disorders of the shoulder. Some radiologists prefer to apply a local anesthetic to the skin prior to performing the joint puncture. However, no information regarding the efficacy of local anesthetics exists.

Purpose: To assess patient discomfort in arthrography injection.

Material and Methods: A patient survey (n = 74) utilizing a visual analog scale (VAS) measured the intensity of pain in arthrography injection by those receiving local anesthetics (n = 36) versus those who did not (n = 38).

Results: Mean VAS scores were 20.8 (median 10.5, SD 24.3) for those receiving local anesthetics versus 19.3 (median 13.0, SD 20.7) for those who did not (P = 0.83, Mann-Whitney U test).

Conclusion: Routine use of local anesthesia of the skin in arthrography injection is unnecessary.  相似文献

Purpose: To evaluate the preliminary clinical efficacy and retrievability of a covered, retrievable, metallic hinged stent in the treatment of bronchial stump fistula (BPF).

Material and Methods: Between April 2003 and March 2005, eight patients with bronchial stump fistula after pneumonectomy or lobectomy were treated with two types of covered, retrievable, metallic hinged stents. Type A stent was placed in six patients and type B in two under fluoroscopic guidance. The stent was removed with a retrieval set when BPF was healed or complications occurred.

Results: Stent placement in the bronchial tree was technically successful in all patients, without procedure-related complications. Immediate closure of the BPF was achieved in all patients after the procedure. Stents were removed from all patients but one. Removal of the stents was difficult in two patients due to tissue hyperplasia. Patients were followed for 4-16 months. Placement of the stents remained stable in all patients except one due to severe cough. Permanent closure of BPF was achieved in seven (87.5%) of eight patients.

Conclusion: Use of a covered, retrievable, expandable, metallic hinged stent is a simple, safe, and effective procedure for the closure of bronchial stump fistula. Retrieval of the stent seems feasible.  相似文献

Background: Transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) is a safe and well-established treatment option to control hemoptysis, but there are few studies focused on treating hemoptysis accompanying coal workers' pneumoconiosis (CWP).

Purpose: To evaluate the immediate and long-term efficacy of TAE for control of massive hemoptysis in patients with CWP, and to clarify the factors which influence the frequency of rebleeding.

Material and Methods: This study included 34 CWP patients with massive hemoptysis who were treated with 47 TAE sessions over the last 11 years. Immediate (within 1 month) and long-term outcomes (mean 37 months, range 1 month-11 years) were evaluated retrospectively. The relationships between the frequency of rebleeding and the type of CWP, angiographic findings, and presence of tuberculosis were evaluated.

Results: The immediate success rate was 91.2% (31/34). In 23 patients (68%), hemoptysis did not recur on long-term follow-up. In eight patients who received repeated procedures for recurrent hemoptysis, bleeding was discovered in the non-bronchial systemic artery (n = 13) or bronchial artery (n = 7). The frequency of recurrent hemoptysis was higher in cases with complicated pneumoconiosis (n = 7) than in cases of the simple type (n = 1; P = 0.029). There was no statistical difference between rebleeding and angiographic findings or the presence of tuberculosis.

Conclusion: TAE is an effective treatment modality for controlling massive hemoptysis in patients with CWP. However, many non-bronchial systemic collaterals contribute to recurrent hemoptysis. Furthermore, there is a high probability of rebleeding in patients with the complicated type of CWP, and extra care must be taken in the embolization procedure.  相似文献

Background: Hepatic microcirculation is a main determinant of reperfusion injury and graft quality in liver transplantation. One of the important diagnostic procedures to recognize reperfusion failure is contrast-enhanced computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging.

Purpose: To examine the additional effect of contrast media (iomeprol and gadopentetate dimeglumine) on hepatic microcirculation and hepatic cellular damage in the phase of early ischemia/reperfusion injury of the rat liver.

Material and Methods: The partial warm ischemia-reperfusion injury model of rat liver was used. Microcirculation and leukocyte-endothelium interaction were measured by intravital microscopy. Hepatic cellular damage was indicated by liver enzyme activity in the sera. The evaluation parameters were measured at baseline and at 30, 60, and 90 min after reperfusion. The contrast media (iomeprol group, n = 6; gadopentetate dimeglumine group, n = 6) or Ringer's solution (control group, n = 8) were applied after 30 min of reperfusion.

Results: No additional injury to the ischemia/reperfusion injury of the liver after intravenous application of radiographic contrast media was found. Some protective effect was even recorded after application of iodinated contrast media.

Conclusion: The use of contrast media during diagnostic procedure of the liver seems to be relatively safe, even in the stage of early reperfusion after liver transplantation.  相似文献

Purpose: To characterize cystic pancreatic lesions and tumors with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and to assess the value of morphological criteria in differentiating pseudocysts versus cystic tumors and benign versus malignant cystic tumors.

Material and Methods: Twenty-three patients with cystic pancreatic tumors or lesions underwent plain and contrast-material-enhanced MRI, including magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP). The MR findings were characterized and analyzed by two readers, and the role of various imaging criteria and combinations thereof for final lesion assignment were assessed. Final diagnoses were obtained from the results of open surgery (n = 19) and/or biopsy (n = 4).

Results: Final diagnoses included cystic tumors (n = 11) and pseudocysts (n = 12). The lesions were located in the head (56%) and body or tail (44%). Lesion diameters ranged from 7 to 50 mm. Various lesion contrast enhancement patterns were observed for both benign and malignant lesions. Serous cystadenomas were located in the head, they were lobulated, and had wall diameters≤2 mm; with the combination of these characteristics all patients with serous cystadenoma could be identified, whereas in no other patient was this constellation observed.

Conclusion: MRI facilitated the diagnosis of serous cystadenomas, although no definite morphologic criterion for the differentiation between pseudocysts and mucinous cystadenomas was identified. In consideration of the substantial therapeutic consequences, either diagnostics in unclear cystic pancreatic lesions should comprise cyst fluid analysis if necessary, or eligible patients should be referred for surgical resection.  相似文献

Purpose: To study the role of self-expandable metallic stents in malignant esophageal strictures in terms of patency, improved dysphagia score, and possible associated complications.

Material and Methods: Twenty-two patients with inoperable carcinoma of the esophagus underwent stent placement. Four different varieties of covered stents were used. Stenting was performed under fluoroscopic guidance and local pharyngeal anesthesia. During follow-up, patients were examined clinically and radiologically to assess the effectiveness of stents in relieving dysphagia, to check the stent position, patency, and possible complications.

Results: Fluoroscopic placement of the stent was successful and well tolerated in all patients without any serious complications. Accurate stent placement was possible in 95% of cases. The mean dysphagia score prior to stenting was 3.5 and poststent 1.2, with an improvement of 2.3 degrees. In two patients with associated fistulas, complete closure was seen after stent insertion. There was poor stent expansion in three patients. Significant tumor overgrowth occurred in two patients, and a second overlapping stent was deployed in one case. Three patients developed food impaction, which needed endoscopic removal of impacted food in two cases.

Conclusion: Fluoroscopic placement of self-expandable metallic stents is a safe and effective method of palliating severe dysphagia and fistulas in patients with inoperable esophageal carcinoma. However, complications such as tumor overgrowth and food impaction may require reintervention after stent placement.  相似文献

Background: The sail sign is a well-known radiographic feature of the pediatric chest. This sign can be observed in an adult population as well, but for a different reason.

Purpose: To investigate the sail sign appearing in adult chest radiography.

Material and Methods: Based on two anecdotal adult cases in which frontal chest radiographs showed the sail sign, we prospectively screened radiographs of 10,238 patients to determine the incidence of the sail sign found in adults in their 40s or older. The cause of the sail sign was assessed using computed tomography (CT).

Results: The sail sign was revealed in 10 (seven males, three females; median age 60.6 years) of 10,238 patients. Of these 10 patients with a sail sign on frontal radiographs, eight underwent CT. The frontal radiographs of these 10 patients showed a concave superior margin toward the lung in nine patients, a concave inferior margin in five, and a double-lined inferior margin in three. Lateral radiographs disclosed a focal opacity over the minor fissure in five of six patients, which was either fuzzy (n = 4) or sharp (n = 1) in its upper margin, and was sometimes double lined in the inferior margin (n = 3). CT revealed the anterior mediastinal fat to be the cause of the radiographic sail sign, which stretched laterally from the mediastinum to insinuate into the minor fissure.

Conclusion: The incidence of sail sign on adult chest radiographs is about 0.1%. The sign is specific enough to eliminate the need for more sophisticated imaging.  相似文献

Purpose: To compare the success and immediate complication rates of the anatomical landmark method (group 1) and the radiologically (combined real-time ultrasound and fluoroscopy) guided technique (group 2) in the placement of central venous catheters in emergent hemodialysis patients.

Material and Methods: The study was performed prospectively in a randomized manner. The success and immediate complication rates of radiologically guided placement of central venous access catheters through the internal jugular vein (n = 40) were compared with those of the anatomical landmark method (n = 40). The success of placement, the complications, the number of passes required, and whether a single or double-wall puncture occurred were also noted and compared.

Results: The groups were comparable in age and sex. The indication for catheter placement was hemodialysis access in all patients. Catheter placement was successful in all patients in group 2 and unsuccessful in 1 (2.5%) patient in group 1. All catheters functioned adequately and immediately after the placement (0% initial failure rate) in group 2, but 3 catheters (7.5% initial failure rate) were non-functional just after placement in group 1. The total number of needle passes, double venous wall puncture, and complication rate were significantly lower in group 2.

Conclusion: Percutaneous central venous catheterization via the internal jugular vein can be performed by interventional radiologists with better technical success rates and lower immediate complications. In conclusion, central venous catheterization for emergent dialysis should be performed under both real-time ultrasound and fluoroscopic guidance.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety and clinical effectiveness of a covered retrievable expandable nitinol stent for the treatment of malignant tracheobronchial stricture and/or esophagorespiratory fistula (ERF). MATERIALS AND METHODS: With fluoroscopic guidance, stents were placed in 35 symptomatic patients with malignant tracheobronchial stricture and/or ERF in most cases caused by lung or esophageal cancer. The site of stricture was most commonly at the trachea or left main bronchus. If there were complications, the stent was removed with a retrieval set. Nine patients had combined symptomatic ERF. RESULTS: A total of 47 tracheobronchial stents were placed and were technically successful and well-tolerated in all patients. Improvement of dyspnea was achieved in 92% of the patients (24 of 26 patients). Associated ERF in nine patients was effectively treated with tracheobronchial stent placement with or without esophageal stent placement. Stent migration, tumor overgrowth, symptomatic sputum retention, and hemoptysis occurred in 17% (6/35), 6% (2/35), 20% (7/35), and 17% (6/35) of patients, respectively. There were no documented cases of tumor ingrowth. Stent removal was performed easily in five patients when stent migration (n = 2), severe pain (n = 1), tumor overgrowth (n = 1), or persistent gastrobronchial fistula (n = 1) developed. All patients died 2 days to 26 weeks (mean, 9.62 weeks) after stent placement because of disease progression (n = 18), pneumonia (n = 9), hemoptysis (n = 5), or unknown cause (n = 3). CONCLUSION: Use of a covered retrievable expandable nitinol stent is a safe and effective method for relieving dyspnea. This procedure contributed to improved quality of life for patients with malignant tracheobronchial stricture and/or ERF. Stent retrievability was useful in resolving stent-related complications.  相似文献

Background: Renal artery stenosis may produce hypertension, and this condition is referred to as renovascular hypertension (RVH).

Purpose: To evaluate, by using multidetector-row spiral computed tomographic angiography (MDCTA), whether a relationship between accessory renal artery stenosis and hypertension may be hypothesized.

Material and Methods: 214 patients (142 males, 72 females; mean age 66 years) who had previously undergone an MDCTA to study the abdominal vasculature were retrospectively studied. Patients with renal artery stenosis (RAS) were excluded from this analysis. The patients were studied by means of a four-detector-row CT, and scans were obtained after intravenous bolus administration of 110-140 ml of a nonionic contrast material with a 3-6 ml/s flow rate. As a second step, by means of statistical analysis, hypertension data were compared with findings of accessory artery stenosis. Two radiologists first independently reviewed the MDCTA images and then, in case of disagreement, in consensus. Interobserver agreement was calculated for all measurements.

Results: The overall number of detected accessory renal arteries was 74 in 56 of the 214 patients. Accessory renal artery stenosis was detected in 21 of the 56 patients. There was a difference in the prevalence of hypertension between patients with (n = 21) and without (n = 35) accessory renal artery stenosis (P = 0.0187). Interobserver agreement was good (kappa value 0.733).

Conclusion: Any statistical association between the presence of accessory renal artery stenosis and hypertension could not be disclosed. However, accessory renal artery stenosis, detected by MDCTA, is an important pathological sign that the radiologist has to assess in the light of its possible association with hypertension.  相似文献

Purpose: To determine whether the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and fractional anisotropy (FA) can distinguish tumor-infiltrated edema in gliomas from pure edema in meningiomas and metastases.

Material and Methods: Thirty patients were studied: 18 WHO grade III or IV gliomas, 7 meningiomas, and 5 metastatic lesions. ADC and FA were determined from ROIs placed in peritumoral areas with T2-signal changes, adjacent normal appearing white matter (NAWM), and corresponding areas in the contralateral healthy brain. Values and lesion-to-brain ratios from gliomas were compared to those from meningiomas and metastases.

Results: Values and lesion-to-brain ratios of ADC and FA in peritumoral areas with T2-signal changes did not differ between gliomas, meningiomas, and metastases (P = 0.40, P = 0.40, P = 0.61, P = 0.34). Values of ADC and FA and the lesion-to-brain ratio of FA in the adjacent NAWM did not differ between tumor types (P = 0.74, P = 0.25, and P = 0.31). The lesion-to-brain ratio of ADC in the adjacent NAWM was higher in gliomas than in meningiomas and metastases (P = 0.004), but overlapped between tumor types.

Conclusion: Values and lesion-to-brain ratios of ADC and FA in areas with T2-signal changes surrounding intracranial tumors and adjacent NAWM were not helpful for distinguishing pure edema from tumor-infiltrated edema when data from gliomas, meningiomas, and metastases were compared.  相似文献

Background: The range of the diameters of pulmonary arteries (PA) is not fully shown in the current literature. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) of the thorax might be used for measuring diameters of the PA.

Purpose: To determine the diameters of PAs in subjects with normal PA pressure by using thoracic CT.

Material and Methods: 126 subjects aged between 19 and 46 years, having normal thoracic CTs (5-mm slice thickness) and normal PA pressures (≤25 mmHg, determined by echocardiography), were included in the study. The diameters of the main, right, and left PAs were measured by using multidetector CT.

Results: The main PA diameters of all the subjects showed a normal distribution, and the mean was 24.0±2.8 mm. The main PA diameters in male and female subjects also showed a normal distribution. The difference between the sexes for the main PA diameters was not significant (P = 0.08). There were correlations between main PA diameter and body-mass index (BMI) (R = 0.41, P = 0.001) and weight (R = 0.34, P = 0.001). However, there was no significant correlation between main PA diameter and height (R = 0.05, P = 0.6).

Conclusion: This study suggests that diameters of the main PA and its main branches show a normal distribution in subjects having normal PA pressures. Based on our findings, the upper limits of the main, right, and left PA diameters are 29.5 mm, 19.8 mm, and 22.1 mm, respectively, in healthy adults.  相似文献

Purpose: To describe timed barium esophagogram (TBE) characteristics in patients with newly diagnosed idiopathic achalasia, and to correlate these with clinical and manometric variables.

Material and Methods: Forty-six consecutive patients with newly diagnosed achalasia were examined with TBE. Esophageal emptying was assessed using the height, area, and volume of the barium column. Subjective evaluation was performed according to a standardized protocol in all patients. Objective diagnostic evaluation included manometry.

Results: At the 1-min time point after contrast ingestion, the static parameters median height, maximum, and mean width of the barium column were 16.0, 4.4, and 3.3 cm, respectively. Emptying, expressed as volume of barium, showed significant inverse correlation with the resting and the maximal relaxing pressure of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) (R = -0.34 and R = -0.54, respectively). There was also an inverse correlation between emptied volume at TBE and the duration of symptoms (R = -0.36), and between barium column width and postprandial chest pain (R = -0.44).

Conclusion: All patients with newly diagnosed achalasia presented with delayed emptying of barium the esophagus at TBE. The estimated emptied volume of barium (related to the ingested volume) correlated inversely with the basal tone and the relaxation pressure of the LES. Including estimation of the volume of emptied barium at TBE resulted in closer correlation with manometric values of LES tone than using the parameters traditionally recorded.  相似文献

Background: Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) enterography combines neutral enteric contrast with intravenously administered contrast material. The optimal intravenous (IV) contrast material protocol has still not been established.

Purpose: To determine the optimal delay time to image patients with small-bowel Crohn's disease during MDCT enterography.

Material and Methods: After oral administration of 1350 ml of neutral contrast medium, 26 patients with small-bowel Crohn's disease underwent MDCT enterography; scans were obtained 40 s (enteric phase) and 70 s (parenchymal phase) after IV administration of 100 ml of iodinated contrast material. Three radiologists, blinded to clinical and pathological findings, independently and retrospectively evaluated each scan in two separate reading sessions for the presence or absence of CT features of Crohn's disease activity. The interobserver agreement was evaluated, and the efficacy of each phase in detecting active disease in the terminal ileum for each reader was determined. The gold standard was pathology (n = 13), endoscopy (n = 3), and clinical evaluation (n = 10).

Results: No statistically significant difference was present between the enteric and the parenchymal phase for each reader in each segment regarding the presence or absence of CT features of Crohn's disease. The interobserver agreement for the presence of five main features of active Crohn's disease in the terminal ileum ranged from poor to excellent. The sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive value, positive predictive value, and accuracy for active Crohn's disease in the terminal ileum ranged from 40 to 90%, 88 to 100%, 70 to 94%, 44 to 100%, and 69 to 96%, respectively. There was no statistical difference between the two phases for each reader.

Conclusion: MDCT enterography in patients with suspected active Crohn's disease can be obtained at either 40 s or 70 s after IV contrast material.  相似文献

Purpose: To evaluate the multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) findings of acute knee trauma and to compare radiography with MDCT in patients referred to a level 1 trauma center.

Material and Methods: During a 5-year period, a total of 415 MDCT examinations were performed on 409 patients with acute knee trauma to reveal complex fracture anatomy or rule out a fracture. MDCT and primary radiographs were re-evaluated with respect to fracture location and trauma mechanism. Tibial plateau fractures were further analyzed depending on anatomical location: anterior-medial, anterior-lateral, posterior-lateral, and posterior-medial regions. Maximal depression of the tibial articular surface was measured. Findings on the primary knee radiographs were compared with MDCT findings.

Results: Of the 409 patients, 356 (87%) had a knee fracture. A total of 451 fractures were found in all anatomic regions: distal femur (n = 49), proximal tibia (n = 307), patella (n = 23), and proximal fibula (n = 72). Primary radiographs were available in 316 (76%) cases. Of these, 225 (71%) had MDCT in order to reveal the fracture anatomy better, and 91 (29%) had a subsequent MDCT after negative plain radiographs. Overall sensitivity of radiography was 83%, while negative predictive value was 49%. On radiography, tibial plateau articular depression was underestimated in all regions except when the fracture consisted of the whole half of the anterior or posterior plateau. The three main injury mechanisms were traffic accident, a simple fall, and sport. In 49 cases (15%), primary radiographs were suboptimal due to positioning.

Conclusion: In severely injured patients, diagnostically sufficient radiographs are difficult to obtain, and therefore a negative radiograph is not reliable in ruling out a fracture. In these patients, MDCT is a fast and accurate examination and is also recommended in patients with tibial plateau fractures or complex knee injuries in order to evaluate the fracture adequately.  相似文献

Background: In patients with chronic left ventricular dysfunction, the size of the viable cardiac muscle is correlated with the prognosis and the outcome of myocardial revascularization.

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic value of various imaging techniques in determination of myocardial ischemia and viability.

Material and Methods: A chronic myocardial ischemia animal model was established, in which 10 pigs underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), and single-photon emission computed tomography (201Tl SPECT) before and 1-2 months after modeling. The size of myocardial ischemia and necrosis was judged, and the imaging manifestations were compared with pathologic findings.

Results: Seven of the 10 animals completed all examinations uneventfully. On dobutamine-stressed cine MRI, 10 (8.93%) segments were found to be akinetic. Perfusion was abnormal in 34 (30.35%) segments. Delayed hyperenhancement was observed in 12 (10.71%) segments. PET detected myocardial necrosis in 17 (15.18%) segments, and SPECT detected myocardial necrosis in nine (8.04%) segments. Histological examination with triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) showed pale necrosis in 14 (12.50%) segments. The number of necrotic segments detected by PET was significantly greater than that by contrast-enhanced MRI (χ2 = 5, P = 0.0253, kappa = 0.8028) and cine MRI (χ2 = 7, P = 0.0082, kappa = 0.7079). It was also greater than that by TTC (χ2 = 3, P = 0.0833, kappa = 0.8879), although the difference was statistically insignificant. The number of necrotic segments detected by SPECT was significantly smaller than that by TTC (χ2 = 5, P = 0.0253, kappa = 0.7590), as was the number of necrotic segments detected by cine MRI (χ2 = 4, P = 0.0455, kappa = 0.8100). There was no statistically significant difference in the detection of necrotic segments between contrast-enhanced MRI and TTC (χ2 = 2, P = 0.1573, kappa = 0.9130).

Conclusion: Cardiac MRI can determine viable myocardium and clearly delineate the location and degree of myocardial necrosis. PET slightly overestimates the extent of the necrotic myocardium and is unable to distinguish transmural necrosis from subendocardial necrosis.  相似文献

Purpose: To establish whether information would be lost if slice reconstruction thickness was increased from 3 to 5 mm, and whether this altered how difficult it was to interpret the examinations.

Material and Methods: Twenty-three consecutive patients referred with suspected or known urinary stones were included. All examinations were performed without intravenous contrast media. The original series, with effective mAs 50, were reconstructed with slice thickness 3 and 5 mm, respectively. All demographic and examination data were removed and the series reviewed in PACS by two independent radiologists. Objective findings, i.e. number and size of stones, signs of obstruction, and evaluation of interpretation difficulty, were registered.

Results: Identical findings were registered in 18 of the series of 3 mm (n = 23) and 19 of the series of 5 mm (n = 23). In two series reconstructed with 3 mm slice thickness and in one series with 5 mm slice thickness, the observers disagreed on the presence of urinary stones. Main reasons for interpretation difficulties were given as “lack of intra-abdominal fat” and “many phleboliths in the pelvic region”, but never “disturbing noise”.

Conclusion: To determine the presence and size of urinary stones at low-dose computed tomography, 5 mm reconstruction algorithm seems equal to 3 mm. Patient-related factors influence the interpretation more than image quality.  相似文献

Purpose: To compare the use of a new 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner with 16-slice CT in the visualization of coronary artery stent lumen.

Material and Methods: Eight different coronary artery stents, each with a diameter of 3 mm, were placed in a static chest phantom. The phantom was positioned in the CT gantry at an angle of 0° and 45° towards the z-axis and examined with both a 64-slice and a 16-slice CT scanner. Effective slice thickness was 0.6 mm with 64-slice CT and 1 mm with 16-slice CT. A reconstruction increment of 0.3 mm was applied in both scanners. Image quality was assessed visually using a 5-point grading scale. Stent diameters were measured and compared using paired Wilcoxon tests.

Results: Artificial lumen reduction was significantly less with 64-slice than with 16-slice CT. Average visible stent lumen was 53.4% using 64-slice CT and 47.5% with 16-slice MSCT. Most severe artifacts were seen in stents with radiopaque markers. Using 64-slice CT, image noise increased by approximately 30% due to thinner slice thickness.

Conclusion: Improved spatial resolution of 64-slice CT resulted in superior assessment of coronary artery stent lumen compared to 16-slice CT. However, a relevant part of the stent lumen is still not assessable with multi-slice CT.  相似文献
