A case-control study of diet and prostate cancer was conducted in Montevideo, Uruguay involving 175 cases and 233 controls. When the highest quartile of intake was compared with the lowest, positive findings were obtained for red meat intake (OR 2.0, 95% CI 1.1-3.8), desserts (OR 1.8, 95% CI 0.9-3.3), total energy (OR 1.9, 95% CI 1.0-3.4) and total fat intake (OR 1.8, 95% CI 0.9-3.4). On the other hand, vegetables and fruits (OR 0.5, 95% CI 0.3-0.9), vitamin C (OR 0.4, 95% 0.2-0.8) and vitamin E (OR 0.6, 95% CI 0.3-1.1) were associated with reduced risks of prostate cancer. Possible mechanisms are discussed.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Consumption of vegetables, fruit and whole grain cereals has been inversely related to laryngeal cancer risk. Among the potential protective agents found in these foods, information on dietary fibres and laryngeal cancer risk are scanty. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A multi-centric, hospital-based case-control study was conducted on 527 patients with squamous-cell carcinoma of the larynx and 1,297 non-neoplastic controls. Cases and controls, frequency matched by age, sex and study centre, were interviewed using a validated food frequency questionnaire. RESULTS: Compared with the lowest quintile of fibre intake, the odds ratios (ORs) for the highest quintile were 0.3 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.2-0.4] for total fibre, 0.3 (95% CI 0.2-0.5) for soluble non-cellulose polysaccharides (NCP) and for total insoluble fibre, including cellulose (OR = 0.3, 95% CI 0.2-0.4) and insoluble NCP (OR = 0.4, 95% CI 0.3-0.7). The ORs were 0.2 (95% CI 0.1-0.4) for fibre from vegetables, 0.5 (95% CI 0.3-0.7) from fruit and 1.1 (95% CI 0.6-1.9) from grains. The inverse association observed was similar among different subsites of laryngeal cancer, and consistent across strata of various covariates. CONCLUSIONS: This study found a strong inverse association between fibre intake and laryngeal cancer risk, which points to fibre as one of the beneficial components of vegetables and fruit.  相似文献

Introduction: Previous studies have suggested that high intake of fruit and vegetables may decrease the riskof a wide range of cancers, but this evidence has been challenged by the results of recent studies. Methods: Tofurther explore the association between fruit and vegetable intake and cancer risk we conducted a case-controlstudy of 11 cancer sites in Uruguay between 1996 and 2004, including 3,539 cancer cases and 2,032 hospitalcontrols. We used unconditional logistic regression to estimate odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals (CIs)of cancer associations. Results: In the multivariable model higher intake of fruits and vegetables combined wasassociated with a decreased risk of cancers of the esophagus (odds ratio, OR=0.63, 95% CI: 0.42-0.97), lung(OR=0.75, 95% CI: 0.57-0.98), breast (OR=0.47, 95% CI: 0.31-0.71), prostate (OR=0.63, 95% CI: 0.44-0.92)and all sites combined (OR=0.73, 95% CI: 0.61-0.87). When evaluated separately, fruit intake was more stronglyassociated with decreased cancer risk than vegetables. These inverse associations were mainly observed in men,among persons with high intake of meat, alcohol drinkers and among smokers. Conclusion: Our results providesome evidence that high intake of fruits and vegetables and particularly fruit may decrease the risk of cancer.However, because of the possibility that these findings could be due to residual confounding from intake ofmeat, alcohol drinking and tobacco smoking, further studies in populations with a large number of participantswith low or no exposure to these potential confounding factors are warranted.  相似文献

Objectives: We examined diet and risk of endometrial cancer among women in the Western New York Diet Study (1986–1991). Methods: Self-reported frequency of use of 172 foods and beverages during the 2 years before the interview and other relevant data were collected by detailed interviews from 232 endometrial cancer cases and 639 controls, frequency-matched for age and county of residence. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated by unconditional logistic regression, adjusting for age, education, body mass index (BMI), smoking history, hypertension, diabetes, age at menarche, parity, oral contraceptive use, menopausal status, menopausal estrogen use, and energy. Results: Risks were reduced for women in the highest quartiles of intake of protein (OR 0.4, 95% CI: 0.2–0.9), dietary fiber (OR 0.5, 95% CI: 0.3–1.0), phytosterols (OR 0.6, 95% CI: 0.3–1.0), vitamin C (OR 0.5, 95% CI: 0.3–0.8) folate (OR 0.4, 95% CI: 0.2–0.7), alpha-carotene (OR 0.6, 95% CI: 0.4–1.0), beta-carotene (OR 0.4, 95% CI: 0.2–0.6), lycopene (OR 0.6, 95% CI: 0.4–1.0), lutein + zeaxanthin (OR 0.3, 95% CI: 0.2–0.5) and vegetables (OR 0.5, 95% CI: 0.3–0.9), but unrelated to energy (OR 0.9, 95% CI: 0.6–1.5) or fat (OR 1.6, 95% CI: 0.7–3.4). Conclusions: Our results support previous findings of reduced endometrial cancer risks associated with a diet high in plant foods.  相似文献

A low intake of fruits and vegetables is a risk factor for gastric cancer, although there is uncertainty regarding the magnitude of the associations. In our study, the relationship between fruits and vegetables intake and gastric cancer was assessed, complementing a previous work on the association betweenconsumption of citrus fruits and gastric cancer. Data from 25 studies (8456 cases and 21 133 controls) with information on fruits and/or vegetables intake were used. A two-stage approach based on random-effects models was used to pool study-specific adjusted (sex, age and the main known risk factors for gastric cancer) odds ratios (ORs) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Exposure-response relations, including linear and nonlinear associations, were modeled using one- and two-order fractional polynomials. Gastric cancer risk was lower for a higher intake of fruits (OR: 0.76, 95% CI: 0.64-0.90), noncitrus fruits (OR: 0.86, 95% CI: 0.73-1.02), vegetables (OR: 0.68, 95% CI: 0.56-0.84), and fruits and vegetables (OR: 0.61, 95% CI: 0.49-0.75); results were consistent across sociodemographic and lifestyles categories, as well as study characteristics. Exposure-response analyses showed an increasingly protective effect of portions/day of fruits (OR: 0.64, 95% CI: 0.57-0.73 for six portions), noncitrus fruits (OR: 0.71, 95% CI: 0.61-0.83 for six portions) and vegetables (OR: 0.51, 95% CI: 0.43-0.60 for 10 portions). A protective effect of all fruits, noncitrus fruits and vegetables was confirmed, supporting further dietary recommendations to decrease the burden of gastric cancer.  相似文献

Background: Previous studies have suggested that egg consumption may increase the risk of colorectal cancerand some other cancers. However, the evidence is still limited. To further explore the association between eggintake and cancer risk we conducted a case-control study of 11 cancer sites in Uruguay between 1996 and 2004,including 3,539 cancer cases and 2,032 hospital controls. Results: In the multivariable model with adjustmentfor age, sex (when applicable), residence, education, income, interviewer, smoking, alcohol intake, BMI, intakeof fruits and vegetables, grains, dairy products, total meat and other fatty foods, mate tea and energy, there wasa significant increase in the odds of cancers of the oral cavity and pharynx (OR=2.02, 95% CI: 1.19-3.44), upperaerodigestive tract (OR=1.67, 95% CI: 1.17-2.37), colorectum (OR=1.64, 95% CI: 1.02-2.63), lung (OR=1.59,95% CI: 1.10-2.29), breast (OR=2.86, 95% CI: 1.66-4.92), prostate (OR=1.89, 95% CI: 1.15-3.10), bladder(OR=2.23, 95% CI: 1.30-3.83) and all cancer sites combined (OR=1.71, 95% CI: 1.35-2.17) for a high vs. low eggintake. Conclusions: We found an association between higher intake of eggs and increased risk of several cancers.Further prospective studies of these associations are warranted.  相似文献

Although the incidence rate of colorectal cancer is very low, and rectal cancer remains more common in India, a significant increase in its incidence has been reported for both men and women over the last 2 decades. We evaluated MTHFR genetic susceptibility and common environmental risk factors in the development of colon and rectal cancer, and assessed the interactions between gene and environmental factors with colorectal cancer in a case-control study in the Indian population. The study included 59 colon cancer cases, 243 rectal cancer cases and 291 controls. The variant MTHFR 677T allele is rare, while the 1298C allele is common among Indians. MTHFR 677T showed no association with colon cancer (OR = 0.82; 95% CI 0.28-2.05) and a nonstatistically significantly elevated risk with rectal cancer (OR = 1.51; 95% CI 0.86-2.68), and MTHFR 1298 CC genotype was found to be associated with a significantly decreased risk for both colon cancer (OR = 0.30, 95% CI 0.09-0.81) and rectal cancer (OR = 0.43, 95% CI 0.23-0.80). High intake of nonfried vegetables or fruits was inversely associated with both colon and rectal cancer risk. Especially, the combination of a high intake of nonfried vegetables and MTHFR 1298CC genotype was associated with the lowest rectal cancer risk (OR = 0.22, 95% CI 0.09-0.52). Regarding alcohol consumption, indigenous Indian alcohol drinkers (OR = 2.26, 95% CI 0.86-6.36), and those consuming alcohol for duration more than 20 years (OR = 1.55, 95% CI 0.73-3.33), were at a somewhat higher rectal cancer risk. Moreover, the consumed alcohol amount (gram-years) may be also associated with colon or rectal cancer risk.  相似文献

Genetic polymorphisms resulting in variation in metabolism of tobacco carcinogens may influence oral cancer risk. In a population-based case-control study in Puerto Rico, genotypes of CYP1A1, GSTM1, and GSTT1 were determined by a PCR-based method for 132 oral cancer patients and 143 control subjects. Genotype-associated risks were estimated by logistic regression. The null variant of GSTM1 was associated with a marginally significant decrease in oral cancer risk [odds ratio (OR) = 0.6, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.3-1.0, and P for trend = 0.09]. Risks increased with increasing cigarette use among subjects with the GSTM1-present genotype (P for trend <0.0001), rising to OR = 9.5, 95% CI = 3.0-30, among the heaviest cigarette users. In contrast, among subjects with the GSTM1-null genotype, risks did not clearly increase with increasing cigarette use (P for trend <0.61; OR = 1.8, 95% CI = 0.6-5.2 among the heaviest tobacco users). The GSTT1-null variant (OR = 1.0, 95% CI = 0.5-1.9) and CYP1A1(462Val) variant (OR = 0.9, 95% CI = 0.5-1.7) were not associated with the risk. Risks rose with increasing cigarette use in a similar manner for subjects with or without the CYP1A1(462Val) variant (P for interaction = 0.3) and for subjects with or without the GSTT1-null genotype (P for interaction = 0.4). In conclusion, cigarette use significantly increased the risk of oral cancer in this population. The GSTM1-present genotype was associated with higher tobacco-associated risk for oral cancer among heavy smokers than the null genotype.  相似文献

In order to examine the risks of cancer of the upper aerodigestive tract associated with food groups, a case-control study was conducted in Uruguay in the period January 1996-December 1997. All patients afflicted with cancer of the oral cavity, pharynx larynx, and esophagus, were included in the study. Cases were frequency matched with hospitalized patients on age, sex, residence, and urban/rural status. A strong association with red meat intake was observed (OR 2.4, 95% CI 1.2-4.8), whereas vegetables fruits and legumes were associated with an inverse association (OR for fruits 0.3, 95% CI 0.2-0.6). Salted meat, a possible source of nitrosamines, was associated with an increased risk of 60% for esophageal cancer. Possible mechanisms for these findings are discussed.  相似文献

Objective: To investigate the relation between various micronutrients and laryngeal cancer risk. Methods: A case–control study was conducted in Italy and Switzerland between 1992 and 2000. Cases were 527 patients with incident cancer of larynx, admitted to the major teaching and general hospitals of the study areas. Controls were 1297 subjects admitted for acute, non-neoplastic diseases to the same network of hospitals. Dietary habits were assessed using a validated food-frequency questionnaire. Odds ratios (OR) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) were computed using multiple logistic regression. Results: Significant inverse relations emerged between laryngeal cancer risk and intake of vitamin C (OR = 0.2, for the highest versus the lowest intake quintile; 95% CI: 0.2–0.4), -carotene (OR = 0.2; 95% CI: 0.2–0.4), -carotene (OR = 0.3; 95% CI: 0.2–0.5), lutein/zeaxanthin (OR = 0.4; 95% CI: 0.3–0.6), vitamin E (OR = 0.4; 95% CI: 0.3–0.6), -criptoxanthin (OR = 0.4; 95% CI: 0.2–0.5), folic acid (OR = 0.4; 95% CI: 0.2–0.6), thiamin (OR = 0.4; 95% CI: 0.3–0.6), glutathione (OR = 0.5; 95% CI: 0.4–0.8), reduced glutathione (OR = 0.6; 95% CI: 0.4–0.8), vitamin B6 (OR = 0.6; 95% CI: 0.4–0.9) and potassium (OR = 0.6; 95% CI: 0.4–0.9). Direct associations were found with zinc (OR = 1.5; 95% CI: 1.0–2.2) and vitamin D (OR = 1.8; 95% CI: 1.2–2.6). Combining low intakes of vitamin C, carotene, vitamin E, and folate with heavy smoking and drinking led to ORs between 80 and 170. Conclusions: This study provides further support that, independently from smoking and alcohol consumption, the intake of several micronutrients, including selected antioxidants, is inversely related to laryngeal cancer risk.  相似文献

In the time period January 1998-December 2000, a case-control study on squamous cell cancer of the oesophagus was conducted in Montevideo, Uruguay. The main objective of the study was to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) associated with main food groups. For this purpose, 166 patients afflicted with squamous cell oesophageal cancer and 664 hospitalised controls were frequency matched on age and sex. Both series of patients were administered with a structured questionnaire. Aside from queries related with tobacco smoking, alcohol drinking and maté drinking, patients were interviewed with a food-frequency questionnaire (FFQ) on 64 items, representative of the usual Uruguayan diet. Red meat, salted meat and boiled meat displayed strong direct associations (OR for red meat 2.4, 95% CI 1.4-4.2). On the other hand, fish and total white meat showed moderate protective effect (OR for total white meat 0.5, 95% CI 0.3-0.9). Total fruit intake displayed a strong inverse association (OR 0.2, 95% CI 0.1-0.4), whereas total vegetable consumption presented a weak inverse association (OR for total vegetable intake 0.7, 95% CI 0.4-1.2). These results suggest that vegetables, mainly cooked vegetables, are rich in thermolabile protective substances. On the other hand, boiled (stewed) meat, which is ingested at high temperature could be, like maté, a risk factor for squamous cell cancer of the oesophagus.  相似文献

Background:The role of selected micronutrients, vitaminsand minerals in the aetiology of epithelial ovarian cancer wasinvestigated using data from a case-control study conducted between 1992and 1999 in five Italian areas. Patients and methods:Cases were 1031 patients with histologically confirmed incidentepithelial ovarian cancer. Controls were 2411 subjects admitted foracute, non-neoplastic diseases to major hospitals in the same catchmentareas. Dietary habits were elicited using a validated food frequencyquestionnaire including 78 food groups and recipes. Odds ratios (OR) and95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were computed byquintiles of intake of nutrients. Results:Inverseassociations emerged for vitamin E (OR = 0.6; 95% CI:0.5–0.8), beta-carotene (OR = 0.8; 95% CI: 0.6–1.0),lutein/zeaxanthin (OR = 0.6; 95% CI: 0.5–0.8 for thehighest vs. the lowest quintile of intake), and calcium intake (OR =0.7; 95% CI: 0.6–1.0). When the combined effect of calciumand vitamin E was considered, the OR reached 0.4 (95% CI:0.3–0.7) for subjects in the highest compared to those in thelowest intake tertile of both micronutrients. Results were consistentacross strata of menopausal status, parity and family history of ovarianor breast cancer. Conclusions:The intake of selectedmicronutrients, which were positively correlated to a diet rich invegetables and fruits, was inversely associated with ovarian cancer.  相似文献

Cancer of the oral cavity and oropharynx is a major public health problem in Spain. Tobacco and alcohol have been identified as the two major risk factors for oral cancer in most western populations. Other risk factors include diets low in fruits and vegetables, but the impact of dietary habits on the risk of these cancers has never been assessed in Spain. The objective of this study was to elucidate the role of dietary habits in oral and oropharyngeal cancer, a multicentric case-control study was conducted in three areas of Spain (Barcelona, Granada and Sevilla) between 1996 and 1999. Cases were 375 patients (71 women), with incident, histologically confirmed cancer of the oral cavity or oropharynx, and controls were 375 subjects (71 women) admitted to hospitals for conditions unrelated to smoking or alcohol drinking. Data were analysed using multivariate logistic regression procedures. After allowance for education, tobacco and alcohol use, a significant inverse association with the risk of oral and oropharyngeal cancer was found for total consumption of total green vegetables (OR 0.54, 95% CI = 0.34-0.87) and total fruit (OR 0.52, 95% CI = 0.34-0.79) with significant trends in risk. We found that the protective effect of each of these food items was consistently larger among current smokers and among heavy alcohol drinkers, following a multiplicative effect model. In conclusion, this study provides further support to the beneficial effect of high intake of vegetables and fruits on the risk of developing cancers of the oral cavity and oropharynx in Spain, particularly among current smokers and heavy alcohol drinkers.  相似文献

Using a mailed questionnaire, we investigated the risk of renal cell cancer in relation to different types of alcoholic beverages, and to total ethanol in a large population-based case-control study among Swedish adults, including 855 cases and 1204 controls. Compared to non-drinkers, a total ethanol intake of >620 g month(-1) was significantly related to a decreased risk of renal cell cancer (odds ratio (OR) 0.6, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.4-0.9; P-value for trend=0.03). The risk decreased 30-40% with drinking more than two glasses per week of red wine (OR 0.6, 95% CI 0.4-0.9), white wine (OR 0.7, 95% CI 0.4-1.0), or strong beer (OR 0.6, 95% CI 0.4-1.0); there was a clear linear trend of decreasing risk with increasing consumption of these beverages (P-values for trends <0.05).  相似文献

Plant foods have been associated inversely with colon cancer. Since amajor focus of this study was to identify components of plant foods whichmay account for their association with colon cancer, nutrients which arecommonly found in plant foods also were evaluated. A population-basedcase-control study was conducted in Northern California, Utah, and the TwinCities area of Minnesota (United States). Complete data were available frominterviewer-administered questionnaires on 1,993 cases and 2,410 controls.Higher intakes of vegetables (for highest relative to lowest quintile ofintake) were associated inversely with colon cancer risk: the odds ratio(OR) was 0.7 for both men (95 percent [CI] confidence interval = 0.5-0.9)and women (CI = 0.5-1.0). Associations were stronger among those withproximal tumors. Total fruit intake was not associated with colon cancerrisk although, among men, higher levels of whole grain intake wereassociated with a decreased risk (OR = 0.6, CI = 0.4-0.9 for older men);high intakes of refined grains were associated with an increased risk (OR =1.5, CI = 1.1-2.1). Dietary fiber intake was associated with a decreasedrisk of colon cancer: OR = 0.5 (CI = 0.3-0.9) for older men; OR = 0.7 (CI =0.4-1.2) for older women; OR = 0.6 (CI = 0.4-1.0) for men with proximaltumors; OR = 0.5 (CI = 0.3-0.9) for women with proximal tumors. Othernutrients, for which plant foods were the major contributor - such asvitamin B6, thiamin, and niacin (women only) - also were associatedinversely with colon cancer. Neither beta-carotene nor vitamin C wasprotective for colon cancer. Adjustment of plant foods for nutrients foundin plant foods or for supplement use did not appreciably alter the observedassociations between plant foods and colon cancer.  相似文献

High fruit and vegetable intake has been linked with a reduced risk of breast cancer, but evidence is not consistent. We investigated the associations of breast cancer risk with vegetables, fruits and related micronutrient intake in a population-based case-control study among Chinese women in Shanghai, where dietary patterns differ substantially from other study populations. Included in the study were 1,459 incident breast cancer cases and 1,556 frequency-matched controls. Usual dietary habits were assessed by in-person interviews. Logistic regression was used to compute adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to measure strength of the associations. There was no association between breast cancer risk and total vegetable intake. Iron overload may increase prostate cancer risk through stimulation of oxidative stress, and endogenous pro- and antioxidant capabilities, i.e. manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) and myeloperoxidase (MPO), may modify these associations. We investigated this hypothesis in the Carotene and Retinol Efficacy Trial cohort in a nested case-control study. Although there was no association between iron intake and risk overall, there was a suggestion of increased risk of clinically aggressive prostate cancer with higher iron intake [odds ratio (OR) = 1.4, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.9-2.0]. Associations were most notable for men with aggressive prostate cancer who were below the median consumption of total fruits and vegetables (OR = 1.8, 95% CI = 1.1-3.2). Associations between MPO -463 G to A genotype (rs2333227) and prostate cancer risk were only noted among men with aggressive cancer, with more than a 2-fold risk reduction among men with AA genotypes (OR = 0.4, 95% CI = 0.2-1.0); MnSOD was not associated with risk overall, but the MnSOD T to C (Val-9Ala, rs4880) polymorphism modified associations between risk of clinically aggressive prostate cancer and dietary iron intake (P for interaction = 0.02). Among aggressive cancer cases with the TT genotype, higher iron intake level was associated with >2-fold increase in risk (OR = 2.3, 95% CI = 1.0-4.9), whereas there was no association among men with CC genotypes (OR = 0.9, 95% CI = 0.4-2.3). Although interactions were not significant, there were similar patterns for MPO genotype, iron intake and risk. These findings suggest that higher iron intake may be associated with risk of clinically aggressive prostate cancer, and that endogenous antioxidant capabilities may modify these associations.  相似文献

In order to determine to the effect of benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) on breast cancer risk we conducted a case-control study in the time period 1996-2004. The study included 1,098 participants (460 cases and 638 controls). All the patients were drawn from the four major hospitals in Montevideo, Uruguay. Statistical analysis was performed using unconditional multiple logistic regression and the models included age, residence, urban/rural status, education, monthly income, body mass index, menopausal status, age at menarche, parity, smoking index, alcohol drinking, mate consumption, total energy, total vegetables and fruits, and BaP intake. The highest vs. the lowest quartile of BaP intake (OR 2.0, 95% CI 1.2-3.3) was significantly associated with breast cancer risk. Alcohol drinking was also directly associated with breast cancer risk (OR 1.63, 95% CI 1.19-2.23) and the joint effect of BaP and alcohol drinking showed an elevated risk of the disease (OR 3.32, 95% CI 2.17-5.06). Plant foods and risk of laryngeal cancer: A case-control study in Uruguay   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
In order to examine the relationships between plant foods, defined as the grouping of vegetables, fruits, tubers and legumes, with the risk of developing laryngeal cancer, a case-control study was conducted in Uruguay between 1998-1999. The study included 148 cases with histologically verified squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx, which were frequency matched on age, residence and urban/rural status with 444 hospitalized controls, afflicted by non-neoplastic conditions. Both series of patients were face-to-face interviewed in the hospitals shortly after admittance using a detailed questionnaire. This questionnaire included 62 queries on food items, representative of the usual diet of the Uruguayan population. Food items and food groups were adjusted for tobacco smoking, alcohol drinking and total energy intake. High consumption of plant foods was associated with an OR of 0.42 (95% CI 0.21-0.84). Among subgroups of plant foods, fruits and raw vegetables were associated with a strong reduction in risk (OR for the highest quartile of raw vegetables 0.29, 95% CI 0.15-0.56). Also, legumes were associated with a protective effect (OR 0.62, 95% CI 0.33-1.19). Among individual food items, tomatoes and oranges were associated with the stronger protective effects (OR for tomato intake 0.32, 95% CI 0. 17-0.58). The joint effect of heavy smoking and the low intake of vegetables and fruits displayed an increased risk of 19.2 (95% CI 5. 7-64.9).  相似文献

Fruit and vegetable intake has been linked to bladder cancer risk; however, evidence for other foods or specific dietary factors is inconclusive. The association between diet and bladder cancer risk was evaluated among 912 incident bladder cancer cases and 873 controls in Spain. Data were consistent with a reduced bladder cancer risk associated with high fruit intake; however, the association was significant only among current smokers (OR (95% CI) for 5th versus 1st quintile: 0.5 (0.3-0.9), p trend=0.009). Evaluation of food subgroups showed significant inverse associations with high intakes of berries, Liliaceae vegetables and yellow-orange vegetables. The latter association was stronger among individuals with the GSTM1 present than the null genotype (0.4 (0.2, 0.7) and 0.9 (0.6, 1.3), respectively; p for interaction=0.04). Meat or fish intake, their cooking methods or level of doneness, or heterocyclic amine intakes were not significantly associated with risk. Intake of folate, other B-vitamins (B12, B6, B2) and retinol was also associated with a reduced risk, the strongest associations being for vitamin B6 (0.6 (0.4, 0.8) p trend=0.0006) and retinol (0.6 (0.4-0.9) p trend=0.004). Our findings indicate that fruit and vegetable intake, as well as B-vitamin and retinol intake might be associated with a reduced bladder cancer risk.  相似文献
