Bilateral traumatic abducens nerve paralysis with cervical spine flexion injury

Bilateral traumatic abducens nerve palsy is a rare condition. We report a case associated with cervical spine flexion injury. This may be the first such case report, as no similar case was found in our review of the literature. The mechanisms of injury in this case are relevant to theories that explain hyperextension injuries.     

Severe aortic insufficiency secondary to 5L Impella device placement

This case report describes the case of a 45-year-old female with a heart transplant who developed severe aortic insufficiency after insertion of a 5L Impella device. The case is unusual as there has been no published report of aortic valve injury leading to persistent and significant aortic regurgitation after insertion of an Impella device.     

Sonographic findings in leiomyoma of postorchiectomy scrotum

Leiomyomas of the scrotum are unusual testicular masses and a case report reviewing the ultrasonographic findings of this entity comprises this report. The ultrasonographic characteristics of leiomyoma have not been reported previously. The purpose of this case report is to discuss the findings of ultrasound in evaluation of leiomyoma in the area of the scrotum.     

Tamponnade à pression basse mimant une cholécystite

Low-pressure tamponade is rare and little known with difficult clinical recognition. We report a case of this pathology in a patient admitted for abdominal severe sepsis. Pericardiocentesis led to identification of Salmonella typhimurium pericarditis. This case report emphasizes the clinical recognition difficulty and the interest of early fast echography in case of hemodynamic emergency.     

Acrométastases de la main et du pied compliquant un cancer mammaire

Hands and feet acrometastases are rarely observed. The authors report a case of bone metastasis to the left thumb and the right second metatarsal bone in a 37-year-old woman with breast carcinoma. Through this case report, mechanisms of such metastases are reviewed.     

Bilateral organ-limited amyloidosis of the distal ureter associated with osseous metaplasia and radiographic calcification

We report a case of organ-limited amyloidosis of the distal portion of both ureters in which bilateral osseous metaplasia was present as well as radiographic evidence of ureteral wall calcification. This case represents the twenty-eighth report of localized ureteral amyloidosis and the fourth report with bilateral involvement.     

Cervical pregnancy

The authors report a case of cervical pregnancy in a nulliparous woman (after treatment for secondary infertility) treated systemically and locally with methotrexate. Related to the case, they make some considerations concerning early diagnosis and conservative treatment of ectopic cervical pregnancies, in order to maintain the patients' fertility. The woman presented in this case report is now 5-weeks intrauterine pregnant.     

Rhabdomyolysis and severe muscle weakness secondary to colistin therapy

Rhabdomyolysis is a clinical condition that causes renal failure up to 40%. Rhabdomyolysis may be traumatic or nontraumatic. Colistin (polymyxin E) is an effective antibiotic. Nephrotoxicity is a frequently encountered side effect. The nephrotoxic effect of colistin is thought to be associated with increased membrane permeability, cell swelling and lysis, and the development of acute tubular necrosis. Here, we report a case of nontraumatic rhabdomyolysis associated with the use of colistin. There is only one report of rhabdomyolysis secondary to colistin in the literature, and there is no report of a case developing severe tetraparesis, as in our case.     

Rectorrhagia revealing colonic metastasis from an ovarian primary,an exceptional case report

IntroductionOvarian cancer is a gynecological cancer with a very poor prognosis despite the improvement of therapeutic means, of which metastases at the colic level are exceptional. We report an exceptional case which makes it possible to enrich the poor literature published on the subject.Case presentationThrough this article, we present a very rare case of colonic metastases from ovarian cancer. Biological monitoring and rectal bleeding allowed this rare secondary location to be discovered. Resection then anastomosis allowed our patient to heal.The objectives of this work are threefold: i), to report this very rare case ovarian metastasis ii), to highlight nulliparity as a risk factor in our patient iii), to report that our therapeutic management interrupted and delayed because of COVID 19.Discussion and conclusionOur case report shows that we have to take into consideration this very rare presentation and this even in the absence of true clinical sign. Our work reported also another case of colonic metastasis of a primary ovarian in the very rare case described in the literature and emphasizes the importance of surgical management.

Anesthetic management for a five-day separation of craniopagus twins

Craniopagus twinning is a rare form of the already uncommon entity of conjoint twins. With advances in medical technology and expertise, future attempts at surgical separation of these increasingly complex cases are likely to occur. Despite this, medical literature on the anesthetic management of these cases is sparse. The following case report details the anesthetic management and planning leading to and including the 5-dy separation of 11-mo-old craniopagus twins. The report emphasizes the importance of teamwork, communication, and advanced planning required in cases such as this. IMPLICATIONS: The following case report documents the anesthetic planning and management leading to and including a 5-day separation of twins joined at the head. This case report also details the difficulties encountered during the unique combination of a rarely performed procedure and a long operating time.     

Superior vena cava obstruction and liver transplantation in a child

We report a case of superior vena cava obstruction in a child, which was probably secondary to long-term central venous cannulation. The obstruction was asymptomatic preoperatively, but became evident during liver transplantation, and complicated the intraoperative management. There is one other case report of this occurring in an adult in similar circumstances, and we believe that ours is the first report of such a presentation in the paediatric age group.     

Simultaneous extraarticular fracture of the base of the first metacarpal anddislocation of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb: A case report

Double fracture-dislocations of the thumb are rare. Only a single case report of a simultaneous extraarticular fracture of the base of the first metacarpal and dislocation of the metacarpophalangeal joint has been previously reported. We report the second case report of this injury in a 20-year-old man. The patient had an excellent outcome after treatment.     

Sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis secondary to dermoid cyst rupture: a case report

This case report documents the presentation and management of a 26-year-old female patient diagnosed with SEP secondary to dermoid cyst rupture. The authors postulate that acute chemical peritonitis secondary to dermoid cyst rupture can develop into SEP resulting in the clinical features depicted in this case report.     

Total femur replacement. A case report with 35-year follow-up study

In 1965, Buchman published a report of a total femur and knee joint replacement he had performed the previous year. He reported this was his second total femur replacement and made passing reference to his first such case, noting only that it had been undertaken in a desperate effort to avert a hip disarticulation. The present authors report a 35-year follow-up study of Buchman's first case, the earliest known case of a total femur and knee joint replacement.     

Pancreatitis after posterior spinal fusion for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis

A case report describes an adolescent with idiopathic scoliosis who underwent a posterior spinal fusion and developed pancreatitis postoperatively. The patient recovered with parenteral nutrition support. We report this case to add to the literature that supports a benign disease course for postoperative pancreatitis in patients who have had posterior spinal fusion.     

Desmoid tumors of the bilateral breasts in a patient without Gardner syndrome: a case report and review of literature

Desmoid tumors constitute 0.02% to 0.03% of all tumors. Consequently, few case reports exist for breast desmoids, even fewer identifying bilateral disease. We present a case report of a patient with bilateral breast desmoids and shoulder desmoid without evidence of FAP or Gardner syndrome. This case report explores the clinical, radiographic, pathologic, and treatment elements for desmoid tumors as well as a review of the literature.     

Sacral fracture associated with small bowel entrapment: a case report

We report the third documented case of small bowel entrapment within a sacral fracture leading to small bowel obstruction. This important diagnosis is rare and difficult to make, even with current imaging methods. We report a case in which a segment of small bowel trapped in a Denis II fracture of the sacrum required laparotomy, small bowel resection, and an omental patch over the fracture site. In this case the outcome was favorable with no residual sequelae.
