Aims

We aimed to define a mathematical model allowing to foresee the level of a cyclist.

Methods

One hundred (and) six cyclists were classified according to their level and some of their physiological characteristics were measured with the threshold (4 mmol of lactate) and with the maximum values of their oxygen flow.

Results

To the threshold, power, lactatemy, age and size allow to foresee the level with an error rate of 27% ; to the maximum values, the criteria are development, flow in oxygen, lactatemy and age (error rate of 31%).

Conclusion

These results indicate that our mathematical model allows to envisage the level.  相似文献

Backgroung

Previous studies showed that maximal oxygen uptake and maximal heart rate were not different during prolonged fasting (ramadan) compared to normal feeding period. However, the effect of ramadan on the blood pressure response during incremental exercise has not been investigated.

Objective

This study aimed to evaluate the evolution of blood pressure during incremental trial in ramadan period.

Methods

Twelve young trained male aged 24 ± 4 yrs participated as voluntary subjects. Their anthropometric parameters, maximal aerobic power and maximal heart were measured in fasting and in normal feeding periods during incremental trial on cycle ergometer.

Results

No significant difference was observed in any anthropometric parameter. Maximal aerobic power of fasting period was significantly less (P < 0,05) compared to normal feeding. Heart rate at rest, at maximal exercise and during a 15 min period of recovery was not significantly affected. Systolic blood pressure of fasting period at maximal power was significantly lower than during the control period (P < 0,05).

Conclusion

Ramadan negatively influences the capacity of maximal power and cardiovascular response at maximal power.  相似文献

Aim

To determine the effect of a preexercise hyperventilation (HV) on performance measured during the Wingate test.

Protocol

Seven subjects realized the Wingate test whether in normal condition or after the realization of six maximal respiration cycles realized in 30 s. Gas exchanges were recorded breath by breath throughout the test.

Results

Pic power measured during the test was not significantly different after HV. In opposite, the fatigability index (FI) was significantly higher after HV.

Conclusion

A HV does not affect maximal power, but seems to reduce aerobic contribution, which may explain the higher FI observed after HV.  相似文献

Purpose

The effects of vitamins and minerals complex supplementation on maximal voluntary contraction decrease (FMV) and biological markers following an eccentric exercise at old people.

Method

Sixteen elderly subjects took either placebo (Pl group) or vitamins and minerals (Isoxan Senior, NHS, Rungis, France) (group S) for 21 d before an eccentric exercise and for 3 d after the exercise. The FMV and surface EMG activity (RMS) of the vastus lateralis (VL), vastus médialis (VM) and rectus fémoris (RF) were recorded before (Pre), immediately after (Post), 24 h (Post 24) and 48 h (Post 48) after the exercise. CCVThe creatine kinase (CK), lactate déshydrogénase, malondialdéhyde, and tumor necrosis Factor (TNFα) levels were analyzed.

Results

The reduced MVC (S: 11,2 ± 4,8%; Pl: 17,8 ± 10,4%, P < 0,01) after exercise was associated with a significant reduction in RMS VL, RMS VM and RMS RF values for both groups. A faster FMV recovery appeared at 48 h for the S group (P < 0.05). CK and TNFα values increased in post-exercise.

Conclusion

A dietary supplementation of a vitamin and mineral complex does not attenuate the loss of contractile function immediately after the running exercise, and it may accelerate the recovery of maximal force capacity after 48 h by limiting the post-exercise pro-inflammatory processes.  相似文献

Purpose

Our aim is to describe the spectrum of proton-MR spectroscopy in malignant focal brain lesions and to detect grade of malignancy using MRS tumor biomarkers.

Materials and methods

87 patients (63 males and 24 females) with focal brain lesion(s) are included in this study. All had a brain tumor recently diagnosed by MRI and had received no previous treatment. They were referred to MRS examination before surgical biopsy and/or resection or radiotherapy.

Results

In malignant brain tumors, average Cho/NAA ratio was 3.3 ± 0.22, Cho/Cr ratio was 2.95 ± 0.21, MI/NAA ratio was 1.5 ± 0.12, MI/Cr was 0.53 ± 0.11 with lower MI levels and higher choline levels in more malignant tumours, lipid/lactate peak was detected in brain metastasis and high grade malignant brain tumors.

Conclusion

Higher Cho/NAA, Cho/Cr and MI/NAA ratios with lower MI/Cr, and high lipid/lactate peak, were most likely to be in high grade malignant brain tumors.  相似文献

Goal

The aim of this study was to test the relation between the reactive power and the stiffness of the legs in high trained athletes (sprinters and skiing racers).

Method

A simple method to measure, in field conditions, the leg stiffness during maximal bouncing was used on twenty-eight sprinters, and twenty-nine skiing racers. In addition, the mechanical power called reactive power was calculated according to the method proposed by Bosco. The relationship between stiffness and power was observed in the different groups.

Results

The value of stiffness obtained was 29,866 ± 7372 N.m−1. The power was equal to 52.33 ± 8,72 W.kg−1. The main result of this study was that a relation between stiffness and power was obtained only in the sprinters (r2 = 0,68, P < 0,001). This result stressed the influence of the sport speciality on the stiffness control.

Conclusion

The power measured during maximal bouncing, called reactive power is correlated with the leg's stiffness when subjects are trained to produce power in similar conditions. No correlation was obtained in skiing racers. The stiffness measurement was then a complementary test in the physical evaluation of the athletes.  相似文献

Introduction

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of endurance training on IGF-1, corticosterone and insulin levels in male sedentary and trained rats.

Facts

IGF-1 concentrations decrease after training (p < 0.05), those of corticosterone increase (p < 0.01) whereas insulin levels remain stable.

Conclusion

A short period of endurance training leads to catabolic state with a decrease in IGF-1 concentrations and increase in corticosterone levels.  相似文献

Background

Coronary CT angiography (CCTA) is usually performed during breath holding to reduce motion artifacts caused by respiration. However, some patients are not able to follow the breathing commands adequately due to deafness, hearing impairment, agitation or pulmonary diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of high-pitch CCTA in free breathing patients when compared to breath holding patients.

Methods

In this study we evaluated 40 patients (20 free breathing and 20 breath holding patients) with a heart rate of 60 bpm or below referred for CCTA who were examined on a 2nd generation dual-source CT system. Image quality of each coronary artery segment was rated using a 4-point grading scale (1: non diagnostic–4: excellent).

Results

Mean heart rate during image acquisition was 52 ±5 bpm in both groups. There was no significant difference in mean image quality, slightly favoring image acquisition during breath holding (mean image quality score 3.76 ± 0.32 in breath holding patients vs. 3.61 ± 0.45 in free breathing patients; p = 0.411). Due to a smaller amount of injected contrast medium, there was a trend for signal intensity to be slightly lower in free breathing patients, but this was not statistically significant (435 ± 123 HU vs. 473 ± 117 HU; p = 0.648).

Conclusion

In patients with a low heart rate who are not able to hold their breath adequately, CCTA can also be acquired during free breathing without substantial loss of image quality when using a high pitch scan mode in 2nd generation dual-source CT.  相似文献

Objectives

To evaluate the recanalization rate and clinical outcome three months after endovascular treatment for vertebrobasilar occlusion before the placement of stentrievers.

Material and methods

We reviewed all cases of basilar thrombosis treated with endovascular techniques at our center. We reviewed the clinical outcomes with the main objective of determining the recanalization rate and the secondary objective of evaluating the outcome using the modified Rankin scale (mRS) three months after treatment. We assessed clinical and angiographic variables and correlated them with outcome and complications.

Results

We reviewed a total of 27 consecutive patients (mean age, 58.1 ± 15.5 y; median National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), 21, interquartile range, 18-29; median Glasgow coma score (GCS) 7, interquartile range, 4-9.5). The mean time between the onset of symptoms and endovascular treatment was 26.3 ± 41.7 hours. Complete or partial recanalization was achieved in 23 (85.1%) patients. Three months after treatment, 16 (59.2%) had died and 6 (22.2%) had good outcome (mRS ≤ 2).

Conclusion

Endovascular treatment achieved a high rate of recanalization of occlusions of the basilar artery. Nevertheless, a high percentage of the patients did not have a good outcome. New materials might improve the prognosis in these patients.  相似文献

Background

Our rationale was to evaluate whether a 64-slice CT scanner allows accurate measurement of computed tomographic (CT) changes in coronary artery flow profiles and whether CT flow measurements are suitable for classifying the significance and hemodynamic relevance of a stenosis and thereby supplement as a functional parameter for morphological stenosis analysis.

Methods

A total of 50 patients prospectively underwent computed tomography coronary angiography (coronary CTA) in a multidetector CT scanner (Brilliance 64, Philips) ± 1 day before or after invasive coronary angiography (ICA). Immediately thereafter, 2 radiologists reviewed the imaging data to detect any vessel segments with morphology poorly evaluable by coronary CTA. A locally constant cyclical measurement was acquired in these coronary arteries in breath-hold technique during the passage of a 50 ml bolus of contrast media. For analysis, time–density curves of the bolus passage were registered in the coronary artery and the aorta (internal reference), the up-slopes were determined and correlated with each other. The results were compared with the ICA findings.

Results

47 of 50 CT flow measurements were evaluable. A good correlation was found between the degrees of stenosis and slope ratios in aorta and coronary artery (R2 = 0.92). The threshold corridor was 0.55–0.77 for distinguishing hemodynamically (≥70%) from non-hemodynamically relevant stenoses.

Conclusions

CT-based coronary artery flow measurements (CTFM) correlate well with the angiographically determined degree of stenosis and can elevate by non-invasive means the diagnostic accuracy of coronary CTA. From both a clinically diagnostic and scientific standpoint, CTFM proves a suitable method for quantifying coronary blood flow.  相似文献

Purpose

The purpose of this study was to assess differences in enhancement effects of liver parenchyma between normal and cirrhotic livers on dynamic, Gd-EOB-DTPA enhanced MRI at 3 T.

Materials and methods

93 patients with normal (n = 54) and cirrhotic liver (n = 39; Child–Pugh class A, n = 18; B, n = 16; C, n = 5) underwent contrast-enhanced MRI with liver specific contrast media at 3 T. T1-weighted volume interpolated breath hold examination (VIBE) sequences with fat suppression were acquired before contrast injection, in the arterial phase (AP), in the late arterial phase (LAP), in the portal venous phase (PVP), and in the hepatobiliary phase (HBP) after 20 min. The relative enhancement (RE) of the signal intensity of the liver parenchyma was calculated for all phases.

Results

Mean RE was significantly different among all evaluated groups in the hepatobiliary phase and with increasing severity of liver cirrhosis, a decreasing, but still significant reduction of RE could be shown. Phase depending changes of RE for each group were observed. In case of non-cirrhotic liver or Child–Pugh Score A cirrhosis mean RE showed a significant increase between AP, LAP, PVP and HBP. For Child–Pugh B + C cirrhosis RE increased until PVP, however, there was no change in case of B cirrhosis (p = 0.501) and significantly reduced in case of C cirrhosis (p = 0.043) during HBP.

Conclusion

RE of liver parenchyma is negatively affected by increased severity of liver cirrhosis, therefore diagnostic value of HBP could be limited in case of Child Pugh B + C cirrhosis.  相似文献

Introduction

The purpose of this study was to determine, through histomorphometry, the effect of treadmill training before and after ovariectomy on osteopenia in the bones of rats.

Synthesis

Thirty-five female Wistar rats were used. Active groups were submitted to treadmill training (15 m/min speed and 0° inclination once a day, 30 min/day, five days/week for three or six months, depending on the group).

Conclusion

The effects of physical activity in the ovariectomized rats about parameters histomorphometric are function of the period of practice (before and after ovariectomy). These effects are especially marked when the exercise is practiced before and after the ovariectomy.  相似文献

Objective

To investigate the bolus geometry in high-pitch CT angiography (CTA) of the aorta without ECG synchronisation in comparison to single-source CT.

Methods

Overall 160 consecutive patients underwent CTA either in conventional single-source mode with a pitch of 1.2 (group 1), or in dual-source mode with a pitch of 3.0 (groups 2, 3 and 4) using different contrast media timings with bolus triggering at 140 HU (5 s, group 1; 10 s, group 2; 12 s, group 3; 14 s, group 4). Contrast material, saline flush, flow rate and kV/mAs settings were kept equal for optimum comparability. Aortic attenuation was measured along the z-axis of the patient at different anatomic landmarks and subjective image quality was compared.

Results

The most homogeneous enhancement of the aorta was reached with a delay of 10 s after reaching the trigger threshold. The imaging length was not significantly different, but the examination time was significantly (p < 0.001) shorter in the high-pitch group (7.7 s vs. 1.7 s for group 1 vs. 2, 3 and 4).

Conclusion

In high-pitch CT angiography using a start delay of 10 s after a trigger threshold of 140 HU in the descending aorta is reached, a homogenous contrast along the z-axis is accomplished.  相似文献

Introduction

Our goal is to study the effects of tennis practice in pre-pubescent boys on bone remodeling, by means of enzyme activity involved in balance of matrix remodeling (MMP2 and MMP9).

Results

Mineral bone density has been found higher in the dominant arm (P < 0.0001) as well as MMP2 and MMP9 levels in plasma (P < 0.05).

Conclusion

Tennis practice in children increases bone remodeling, which can be assessed by MMP dosage, in addition of densitometry technique.  相似文献

Objectives

The aim of our work was to determine the frequency of various cardiovascular abnormalities and atypical aspects observed in Tunisian competitive athletes.

Material and methods

Our population was constituted of 181 professional football players (average age 23.1 ± 3.9 years) consulted in “Centre National de la Médecine et des Sciences de Sport” of Tunis with to obtain medical certificate authorizing professional football practice.

Results

Electrocardiogram was strictly normal in 67 players (37%). Twenty-nine players had conduction abnormalities. Repolarisation abnormalities were noted in 20 players. Echocardiography was normal in 129 players (71.3%). Ten cases of valvular heart disease were found. The mean left ventricular end-diastolic diameter was 53 ± 4 mm and the mean left ventricular mass was 202.6 ± 42.7 g. The mean relative wall thickness was 0.380. The left ventricular hypertrophy was present in 42 players.

Conclusion

Cardiovascular abnormalities found in electrocardiogram and echocardiography in the Tunisian professional football players are comparable with those usually observed in elite athletes.  相似文献

Objectives

To evaluate the feasibility and incremental diagnostic value of xenon-enhanced dual-energy CT in mechanically ventilated intensive care patients with worsening respiratory function.

Methods

The study was performed in 13 mechanically ventilated patients with severe pulmonary conditions (acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), n = 5; status post lung transplantation, n = 5; other, n = 3) and declining respiratory function. CT scans were performed using a dual-source CT scanner at an expiratory xenon concentration of 30%. Both ventilation images (Xe-DECT) and standard CT images were reconstructed from a single CT scan. Findings were recorded for Xe-DECT and standard CT images separately. Ventilation defects on xenon images were matched to morphological findings on standard CT images and incremental diagnostic information of xenon ventilation images was recorded if present.

Results

Mean xenon consumption was 2.95 l per patient. No adverse events occurred under xenon inhalation. In the visual CT analysis, the Xe-DECT ventilation defects matched with pathologic changes in lung parenchyma seen in the standard CT images in all patients. Xe-DECT provided additional diagnostic findings in 4/13 patients. These included preserved ventilation despite early pneumonia (n = 1), more confident discrimination between a large bulla and pneumothorax (n = 1), detection of an airway-to-pneumothorax fistula (n = 1) and exclusion of a suspected airway-to-mediastinum fistula (n = 1). In all 4 patients, the additional findings had a substantial impact on patients’ management.

Conclusions

Xenon-enhanced DECT is safely feasible and can add relevant diagnostic information in mechanically ventilated intensive care patients with worsening respiratory function.  相似文献

Objectives

To evaluate the feasibility of diagnosing recurrence of HCC after TACE color-coded iodine CT (CICT) based on arterial phase scans obtained by a dual-energy CT (DECT) scanner.

Methods

A CICT scan was acquired from an iodine map after applying material decomposition of the liver tissue and setting a threshold attenuation level for viable tumors. Two radiologists reviewed both conventional and CICT sets in 31 patients who had a history of TACE for HCC. The performances in detecting local tumor progression (LTP) were evaluated by alternative free-response receiver operating characteristics. The rate of uncertain diagnosis and interobserver agreement of the diagnosis were explored. Additionally, the reading time and radiation dose were also investigated.

Results

The mean figures of merit of the conventional and CICT sets for LTP were 0.818 and 0.847, respectively (p = 0.459). The rate of uncertain diagnosis was significantly decreased in CICT sets (34.5% vs. 0%), and interobserver agreement was improved (k = 0.527 vs. 0.718). On the CICT set, mean reading time was reduced by 49 s and mean radiation dose was also decreased by 18.3% when replacing the non-contrast CT with CICT.

Conclusions

CICT is comparable to conventional liver CT protocol in demonstrating viable HCCs, while it allows a reduction in radiation dose.  相似文献

Objective

To evaluate whether a simple semi-quantitative method aided by software enhanced visualization can be reliable enough for the quantification of emphysema during the daily workload.

Patients and methods

Thirty patients with COPD were included. Patients had a standard non enhanced MDCT study of the chest using a 16 slice machine. The images were evaluated visually and scored. This scoring was repeated after applying a density mask. Three radiologists evaluated the images on separate occasions. Repeatability was also tested. The CT emphysema index and the mean lung attenuation were calculated. The extent of airway disease was not assessed.

Results

Kappa test between the 3 readers revealed slight agreement (k = 0.122, p = 0.001) before the density mask and substantial agreement (k = 0.75, p < 0.0005) after its application. A high degree of repeatability was found. The median visual score after density mask application, showed a stronger correlation to the emphysema index (r = 0.81, p < 0.0005) than before.

Conclusion

We present a simple visual score for quantitation of emphysema, that when combined with a simple density mask, the inter-rater agreement and repeatability of scoring are markedly improved. This method appears to be fast and easy to perform.  相似文献

Aim

To evaluate the effect of the anaerobic exercise on the enzymatic antioxidant statute in judokas’ regional level, because the effects of anaerobic exercise on the free radicals and antioxidants are relatively rare and have some divergences.

Materials and methods

We made this study on ten male judokas (age = 18.1 ± 1.6 years; weight = 77.2 ± 11.6 kg; height = 176.4 ± 4.6 cm), which carried out 30 seconds anaerobic capacity test (Wingate test). Blood samples were taken, by an intravenous catheter, at rest (R), immediately after the Wingate test (P0) then five minutes later (P5), 10 minutes later (P10) then 20 minutes later (P20). The measured parameters are: the superoxide dismutase (SOD), the glutathion peroxidase (GPx) and the total antioxidant statute (SAT).

Results

The concentration of the SOD increases significantly (p < 0.05) at (P0); and regains the baseline values at (P20). The concentration of GPx increases significantly (p < 0.05) in (P0); in (P10) GPx reaches the baseline values. No significant effect of the anaerobic exercise was observed on the concentration of the SAT. Positive correlation was observed between the SOD and GPx to p < 0.05.

Conclusion

The anaerobic exercise modifies the activity of the antioxidant enzymes with different kinetics.  相似文献
