PurposeIn Bangladesh the incidence of pelvic fracture is increasing day by day due to suboptimal roads and heavy traffic. However, there is no epidemiological study of these injuries in Bangladesh. Our aim was to study the epidemiology of patients admitted with pelvic fractures at two tertiary care hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh.MethodsThis was a prospective study carried out on trauma patients with pelvic fracture at two level 1 trauma care center of two tertiary care hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The study period was from July 2015 to June 2019 (48 months). Patient’s data including demography of patients, mechanism of injuries, fracture types, associated injuries, method of treatment, post-operative complications, length of hospital stay were recorded according to a unified protocol.ResultsThe study population was comprised of 696 patients, where 556 (79.88%) were male and 140 (20.12%) were female. Mean age was 37.75 years and road traffic accidents were the most common mode of injuries. Lateral compression fractures were the most common injuries and Urethral injuries were the most common associated injuries. Death was the outcome in 3.5% of the cases due to high energy trauma.ConclusionThis study revealed that pelvic fractures were significantly more frequent in men. Most frequent cause was road traffic accident. The majority of these cases did not required surgery. Mortality was associated with high velocity trauma with severe injuries.  相似文献

BackgroundWith the rapidly growing population and expanding vehicle density on the roads, there has been an upsurge in road accidents in developing countries. Knowledge about the causes and patterns of trauma-related amputations helps in the formulation of strategies for limb savage, timely management, and effective rehabilitation.ObjectiveTo study the epidemiology, demographic profile, and outcomes of post-trauma amputations at a level I tertiary care centre in North India.MethodsRetrospective evaluation of the amputee data from 1st January 2018 to 31st December 2019, focusing on demographic details, injury mechanisms, surgical delays, hospital stay, and complications.ResultsA total of 17,445 trauma cases were seen in our trauma centre during the study period. Of these, 442 patients (2.5%) underwent major limb amputation. The hospital-based prevalence of traumatic limb amputation was 2.5%. The mean age of the amputees was 35.6years (range 1–75), and the majority were males (n = 369, 83.5%). The lower to upper limb involvement ratio was 3:1 (n = 338:105). A road traffic accident was the most common mode of injury (77.4%), followed by machine-cut injuries (16.1%). On-site traumatic amputation was seen in 23.1% (n = 102), while 43.5% had a mangled limb amputated in the hospital (mean MESS score 9.53). Overall, 27% of cases had a vascular injury after trauma, ultimately ending in limb amputation. The in-hospital mortality was 2% (n = 9/442). 43.7% of patients with a single limb amputation were discharged within 48 h. Extended hospital stay was noted in cases with associated fractures in the other limbs (28.5%), head or facial injury (9.9%), and with or without a combination of chest, abdomen, pelvic, or spine injury (7.2%).ConclusionA 2.5% incidence of post-trauma amputation reflects on the severity of injury related to road and industrial accidents which predominantly affect the lower limbs at the peak of productive work life. In the absence of national amputation registries, the results underscore the need to focus on road safety protocols, patient transfer methods, and the up-gradation of local hospitals.  相似文献

ObjectiveThe EU has recommended that its member countries compile statistics on the number of serious road traffic injuries. In Finland, the number of seriously injured road traffic patients is assessed using the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) and the automatic conversion tool (ICD-AIS map) developed by The Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM). The aim of this study was to assess how reliably the ICD-AIS map identifies both serious injuries and seriously injured patients due to road traffic accidents.MethodsData was derived from the Helsinki Trauma Registry (HTR) and included 215 severe (New Injury Severity Score >15) trauma patients injured in road traffic accidents from the years 2016 and 2017. The severity ratings of injuries (Abbreviated Injury Scale, AIS 3+) and patients (Maximum Abbreviated Injury Scale, MAIS 3+) were determined by direct AIS coding of the HTR and were also generated by the ICD-AIS map based on ICD-10 injury codes. These two ratings were compared by injury mechanism and Injury Severity Score (ISS) body regions. The strength of agreement was described using Cohen’s κ. The most common injury codes with errors in severity rating by the ICD-AIS map were presented.ResultsThe number of seriously injured patients by the ICD-AIS map was 21% lower, and the number of serious injuries was 36% lower than the corresponding numbers by direct coding. The exact agreement of the injury ratings was 72% (κ = 0.44, 95% CI 0.42–0.46). Most of the conversion errors were due to the simplicity of the ICD-10 codes used in Finland compared to those used in the ICD-AIS map (ICD-10-CM) and the missing codes from the ICD-AIS map. The most frequent misclassifications were due to multiple rib fractures, visceral organ injuries, some open fractures of extremities, and specific head injuries. Missing codes were most common in face, chest, and limb injuries.ConclusionsThe ICD-10 injury codes presently used in Finland should be more specific to permit reliable conversion results by the ICD-AIS map. The problem with missing codes should be considered more closely. When implementing the ICD-11, all detailed injury codes should be introduced.  相似文献

PurposeThe present study was conducted to evaluate the epidemiological characteristics of the Acetabular fractures treated in a level one trauma centre of India. This study is one of the largest to provide first-hand information regarding the demography, fracture patterns, other associated injuries, and the hospital stay of acetabular fractures in India.MethodPatients admitted with the diagnosis of acetabular fractures between January 2013 and November 2019 were retrospectively analyzed in terms of demographic data such as age and sex, mechanism of injury, other associated injuries, and the duration of hospital stay.ResultsA total of 305 patients with 313 fractures of the acetabulum were included in the study. Among the 305 patients, 268 (87.8%) were male and 37 (12.1%) were female, with a declining male to female ratio over the years. The mean age was 37.1 ± 13.2 years (range 14–84 years). During the seven years, the mean age of presentation progressively increased. Linear regression showed an increase from 33 to 40 years from 2013 to 2019 (R2 = 0.027). Road traffic injuries were the most common mechanism of injury, contributing to about 77.4% of all cases. Associated injuries were seen in 62% of total cases with multiple system involvement in 26.6% of patients. The most frequent pattern in this epidemiological study was an isolated posterior wall fracture (21.4%) while the isolated anterior wall was the least frequent (0.95%).ConclusionAcetabular fractures are increasing in numbers and with increasing knowledge so is their surgical management in our country. It shall be prudent to establish an integrated electronic national trauma registry to maintain complete documentation in all institutions dealing with trauma management to ascertain the changing trends of acetabular fracture patterns in the country over time.  相似文献

Background

Children are vulnerable to musculoskeletal injuries both at home and on the street for various reasons. Morbidity and disabilities resulting from these, mostly preventable, injuries, make them a burden to their families and society. The role of various factors associated with injuries is often not documented.

Methods

This prospective study, done on 100 children aged up to 12 years with musculoskeletal trauma, analysed in details, the various modes of injuries.

Results

One in every five patient was a child below 12 years of age. Boys were injured more than girls. Injuries, especially fractures, were most common in the extremities, the upper limb more commonly injured than the lower limb. Most of the injuries occurred at home. The most common mode of injuries was falls that happened while playing both within and outside the home, followed by road traffic accidents. Most injuries occurred during daytime.

Conclusions

Injuries in children were found to be preventable. Small interventions while constructing homes can contribute tremendously to injury prevention and control in children. Parental awareness about the various modes of injury, role of supervised playing and their responsibility towards injury prevention can play a key role in reducing the morbidity associated with childhood fractures.  相似文献

Objective: To describe mortality pattern and to determine undiagnosed fatal injuries according to autopsy findings among road traffic accident victims in Yazd, Iran.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 251 victims of road traffic accidents who were admitted to a tertiary trauma hospital over a two-year period (2006 and 2007) and received medical cares were included. Hospital records were reviewed to gather demographic characteristics, road user type, and medical data. Autopsy records were also reviewed to determine actual causes of death and possible undiagnosed injuries occurred in the initial assessment of the emergency unit or during hospitalization.
Results: There were 202 males (80.5%) and 49 females (19.5%). The mean (+SD) age of fatalities was 34.1 (+21.5) years. Pedestrian-vehicle accidents were the most common cause of trauma (100 cases, 39.8%). The most common cause of death was central nervous system injury (146 cases, 58.1%). The other causes were skull base fractures (10%), internalbleeding (8%), lower limb hemorrhage (8%), skull vault fractures (4%), cervical spinal cord injury (3.6%), airway compromise (3.2%), and multifactor cases (5.1%), respectively. Thirty-six fatal injuries in 30 victims (12%) mainly contributed to death according to autopsy, but were not diagnosed in initial assessments. The head (72.2%) and cervical spine (13.8%) regions were the two most common sites for undi- agnosed injuries.
Conclusion: Training courses for emergency unit medical staff with regard to interpreting radiological findings of head and neck and high clinical suspicion for cervical spine injuries are essential to improve the quality of early hospital care and reduce the mortality and morbidity of traffic accident patients.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the characteristics of bone fractures from road traffic accidents and analyze their injury mechanisms so as to provide reference for the research and medical care of traffic trauma. METHODS: Three hundred and six patients with fractures from road traffic accidents were included into this study. A total of 507 fractures were identified and the injury mechanism, location distribution and frequency were analyzed. RESULTS: The most common location of fractures was the lower extremities, followed by the upper extremities, skull and maxillofacial region, and the rarest was the spine. A total of 56% of the patients suffered from multiple fractures. The fractures of the patella, femur and pelvis and the fractures of the olecranon, humerus and shoulder often happened simultaneously. CONCLUSIONS: The injury mechanisms can be classified into four types: impact, incoordinate movement, stretch injury and crush and extrusion. The fractures from traffic accidents have the following characteristics: centrifugal distribution of the injuries, multiple fractures, force transmission and ipsilateral occurrence.  相似文献

Introductionhand injuries are a common emergency mainly caused by domestic accidents or sport injuries. During the COVID-19 pandemic confinement period, with a cut off in transportation as well as in occupational and physical activities, we observed a decrease in medical and elective surgical activities but emergency cases of upper limb and hand surgery increased.Materials and methodswe conducted a retrospective epidemiological study to analyze two periods between the same dates in 2019 and 2020, for all the duration of the confinement period. We compared the numbers of consultations in the emergency department, elective surgeries, hand and upper limb emergency cases in our center and urgent limb surgeries in the nearby hospital. Then we compared the mechanisms and severity of injuries and the type of surgery.Resultsbetween 2019 and 2020 there was a decrease of consultations in the emergency department in our institution of 52%, a decrease of total elective surgeries of 75%, a decrease in surgeries for urgent peripheral limb injuries of 50%, whereas the hand and upper limb emergency remained stable or even increased by 4% regard to occupational and domestic accidents.There was a significant difference in the mechanism of injury with an increase of domestic accident and a decrease of occupational, road traffic and sport accidents. Severity of the injuries increased, with augmentation of the number of tissues involved and longer expected time of recovery.Conclusionduring the confinement period of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite an important reduction of medical activities, the amount and severity of hand emergency cases increased. A specific plan regarding duty shift organization for hand trauma should be maintained regardless of the sanitary situation.  相似文献

IntroductionBeside serious and potentially fatal injuries, the majority of pediatric trauma patients present with minor injuries to emergency departments. The aim of this study was to evaluate age-related injury pattern, trauma mechanism as well as the need for surgery in pediatric patients.Patients and methodsRetrospective Study from 01/2008 to 12/2012 at a level I trauma center. All patients <18 years of age following trauma were included. Injury mechanism, injury pattern as well as need for surgery were analyzed according to different age groups (0–3 years, 4–7 years, 8–12 years and 13–17 years). Major injuries were defined as fractures, dislocations and visceral organ injuries. Minor injuries included contusions and superficial wounds.ResultsOverall, 15300 patients were included (59% male, median age 8 years). A total of 303 patients (2%) were admitted to the resuscitation room and of these, 69 (0.5% of all patients) were multiply injured (median Injury Severity Score (ISS) 20 pts). Major injuries were found in 3953 patients (26%). Minor injuries were documented in 11347 patients (74%). Of those patients with a major injury, 76% (2991 patients) suffered a fracture, 3% (132 patients) a dislocation and 3% (131 patients) an injury of nerves, tendons or ligaments. The majority of fractures were located in the upper extremity (73%) (elbow fractures 16%; radius fractures 16%; finger fractures 14%). Patients with minor injuries presented with head injuries (34%), finger injuries (10%) and injuries of the upper ankle (9%). The most common trauma mechanisms included impact (41%), followed by falls from standing height (24%), sport injuries (15%) and traffic accidents (9%). Overall, 1558 patients (10%) were operated. Of these, 61% had a major and 39% a minor injury.ConclusionAlmost 75% of all children, who presented to the emergency department following trauma revealed minor injuries. However, 25% suffered a relevant, major injury and 0.5% suffered a multiple trauma with a median ISS of 20. Overall, 10% had to be operated. The most frequently found major injuries were extremity fractures, with elbow fractures as the most common fracture.  相似文献

IntroductionTraumatic spinal injuries are frequent and their management is debated, especially in major trauma patients. This study aims to describe a large population of major trauma patients with vertebral fractures to improve prevention measures and fracture management.Patients and methodsRetrospective analysis of 6274 trauma patients prospectively collected between October 2010 and October 2020. Collected data include demographics, mechanism of trauma, type of imaging, fracture morphology, associated injuries, injury severity score (ISS), survival, and death timing. The statistical analysis focused on mechanism of trauma and the search of predictive factors for critical fractures.ResultsPatients showed a mean age of 47 years and 72.5% were males. Trauma included 59.9% of road accidents and 35.1% of falls. 30.7% patients had at least a severe fracture, while 17.2% had fractures in multiple spinal regions. 13.7% fractures were complicated by spinal cord injury (SCI). The mean ISS of the total population was 26.4 (SD 16.3), with 70.7% patients having an ISS≥16. There is a higher rate of severe fractures in fall cases (40.1%) compared to RA (21.9% to 26.3%). The probability of a severe fracture increased by 164% in the case of fall and by 77% in presence of AIS≥3 associated injury of head/neck while reduced by 34% in presence of extremities associated injuries. Multiple level injuries increased with ISS rise and in the case of extremities associated injuries. The probability of a severe upper cervical fracture increased by 5.95 times in the presence of facial associated injuries. The mean length of stay was 24.7 days and 9.6% of patients died.ConclusionsIn Italy, road accidents are still the most frequent trauma mechanism and cause more cervico-thoracic fractures, while falls cause more lumbar fractures. Spinal cord injuries represent an indicator of more severe trauma. In motorcyclists or fallers/jumpers, there is a higher risk of severe fractures. When a spinal injury is diagnosed, the probability of a second vertebral fracture is consistent. These data could help the decisional workflow in the management of major trauma patients with vertebral injury.  相似文献

Purpose: Pelvic fractures are severe injuries and are often associated with multiple system injuries, exacerbating the overall outcome. In India, the incidence of pelvic fractures is on a rise due to suboptimal roads and traffics but related literature regarding the overall epidemiology of these injuries is scarce and scanty. Our aim was to study the epidemiology of patients admitted with pelvic fractures at a level 1 trauma centre in India. Methods: A 16-month (between September 2015 and December 2016) prospective observational study was carried out on trauma patients with pelvic fractures at a level 1 trauma centre of a tertiary care hospital. Demography of patients, mechanism of injuries and complications were recorded prospectively. Results: We observed 75 patients who presented with pelvic fractures, where 56 were males and 19 were females. Mean age of the study population was 37.57 years. Road traffic accidents were the most common mode of injuries. Lateral compression injuries were the most common pattern. Associated injuries frequently encountered were lower extremities and acetabulum fractures, blunt abdominal trauma, urogenital injuries and head injuries. Out of the 75 patients, 52 were treated surgically and 23 were managed by conservative methods. Associated injuries of the extremities, head, abdomen and urogenital system indicated a longer hospital stay. Conclusion: Pelvic fractures, although belong to a relatively rare trauma subset, cause a high morbidity and mortality with considerable burden on the economy. Proper road safety training and driving etiquettes along with its strict implementation in true sense and spirit are the need of the hour.  相似文献

BackgroundExtensive research has been conducted concerning the epidemiology of fractures of the calcaneus and ankle. However, less work has characterized the population sustaining talus fractures, necessitating the analysis of a large, national sample to assess the presentation of this important injury.MethodsThe current study included adult patients from the 2011 through 2015 National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) who had talus fractures. Modified Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), mechanism of injury (MOI), Injury Severity Score (ISS), and associated injuries were evaluated.ResultsOut of 25,615 talus fracture patients, 15,607 (61%) were males. The age distribution showed a general decline in frequency as age increased after a peak incidence at 21 years of age. As expected, CCI increased as age increased. The mechanism of injury analysis showed a decline in motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) and an increase in falls as age increased. ISS was generally higher for MVAs compared to falls and other injuries.Overall, 89% of patients with a talus fracture had an associated injury. Among associated bony injuries, non-talus lower extremity fractures were common, with ankle fractures (noted in 42.7%) and calcaneus fractures (noted in 27.8%) being the most notable. The most common associated internal organ injuries were lung (noted in 19.0%) and intracranial injuries (noted in 14.9%).ConclusionThis large cohort of patients with talus fractures defined the demographics of those who sustain this injury and demonstrated ankle and calcaneus fractures to be the most commonly associated injuries. Other associated orthopaedic and non-orthopaedic injuries were also defined. In fact, the incidence of associated lumbar spine fracture was similar to that seen for calcaneus fractures (14%) and nearly 1 in 5 patients had a thoracic organ injury. The mechanism of pelvic fractures has been well documented from radiographs but little is known of the forces required to produce these injuries. We examined 40 cases of pelvic injury sustained in road traffic accidents where the direction of impact and the velocity differential was known. In frontal impacts, indirect shear injuries of the pelvis were prominent, while in side impacts, lateral compressive injuries occurred. With increasing velocity differentials and vehicle deformation and intrusion, more severe pelvic injury occurred, often in association with significant head, chest, and lower limb injuries. Side impacts were noted to produce more severe injuries at lower velocity differentials when compared with frontal crashes.  相似文献

IntroductionMaxillofacial fractures are often associated with severe morbidity, functional deficit, disfigurement and significant financial implications. The aim of this review was to investigate whether the aetiology, prevalence and management modalities of facial trauma can identify the common causes of facial trauma with a view to recommending measures to the appropriate governing bodies to change the current practice wherever possible.MethodsThe records of 1,112 patients referred to our oral and maxillofacial unit in Andhra Pradesh, India, between February 2008 and October 2017 were analysed retrospectively. Data including age, sex, aetiology, fracture site and treatment were evaluated.ResultsMen aged 20–40 years were the most common victims of facial trauma. Road traffic accidents (RTAs) were responsible in 70% of cases. Mandibular fractures constituted 47% of the overall fractures, and 55% of the total fractures were treated with open reduction and internal fixation.ConclusionsThe main cause of maxillofacial injury among patients reporting to our hospital was RTAs. Mandibular fractures were the most common, accounting for almost half of the cases. Over half (55%) of all maxillofacial fractures were treated with open reduction and internal fixation. Reasons for this high frequency may include the large number of poorly maintained, overloaded vehicles on unsuitable roads, violation of traffic regulations (particularly by inexperienced young drivers), abuse of alcohol or other intoxicating agents and the sociocultural behaviours of some drivers.  相似文献

ObjectivesThis study aimed to identify the composition of orthopaedic injuries in Ethiopia.BackgroundInjuries are among the most common causes of death worldwide. This is especially true in developing countries, which lag in preventive efforts and have inadequate resources to treat injuries efficiently. As a result, understanding the trauma burden is crucial for future prevention and treatment accessibility initiatives.MethodsWe conducted an observational study using prospectively collected emergency orthopaedic trauma data between January 2018 and December 2021 from Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The incidence of all fractures, demographic data, trauma mechanisms, and injury types were examined by stratifying cases based on patients presenting from Addis Ababa, the capital city, or outside of Addis Ababa. These groups were chosen to account for the demographic differences that exist between individuals living in the capital city and other regions.ResultsOur study included 4712 patients with similar distribution from Addis Ababa and outside of Addis. Overall, 70% were between 18 to 55 (median 30). Road traffic incidents accounted for the most overall injuries (41%), including 130 motorcycle injuries (2.8%), while falls were the predominant mechanism (51.3%) for patients from Addis. Injuries of the lower limb accounted for 66% of injuries (n=4262/6412), the femur being the most affected (22%), followed by the pelvis and acetabulum (16%). One-quarter presented with open fractures and another quarter had multiple injuries. Multivariate analysis further demonstrated patients outside of Addis were 37% more likely to have multiple fractures and 69% more likely to have open fractures.ConclusionFuture directives should focus on preventive measures and address the management of complex injuries to overcome trauma injuries’ health and economic impacts. The initiatives shall focus on the varying primary mechanisms of injury for the different population groups in the capital city and in rural regions outside of the capital city.  相似文献

SETTING: Yorkshire Region Trauma Units (Level 1 trauma centers with trauma research). PATIENTS: Individuals injured in motorcycle road traffic accidents between January 1993 and December 1999. OUTCOME MEASUREMENTS: Patient demographics, protective devices (helmet) use, Injury Severity Score (ISS), Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), clinical details, therapeutic interventions, resuscitation requirements, duration of hospital stay, mortality, and type of foot injuries sustained. RESULTS: The parent population of 1239 contained 53 (4.3%) foot-injured motorcyclists (49 men) with a mean age of 31.7 years (range 18-79 years). Fifty-two were drivers and one was a rear-seat passenger. Mean ISS was 6.9 (range 4-33), significantly lower than the parent population mean of 34.98 (range 9-75) (P = 0.001). Mean GCS was 14.7 (range 13-15). The motorcyclists' injuries included 26 metatarsal fractures (49.1%), 14 talar fractures (26.4%), 7 os calcis fractures (13.2%), and 6 toe fractures (11.3%). Associated foot injuries included three partial foot amputations, four Lisfranc dislocations, three cases of foot compartment syndrome (two crush injuries with no fracture, one open fourth metatarsal fracture with associated Lisfranc dislocation). Forty-six motorcyclists had more than one foot injury. Associated injuries included 22 ankle fractures (41.5%), 15 tibial fractures (28.3%), 6 femoral fractures (11.3%), 5 pelvic ring fractures (9.4%), 23 upper limb injuries (43.4%), and 3 cases of chest trauma (5.7%). No one sustained abdominal trauma or head injury compared with the parent population. All patients required operative stabilization of foot fractures, including their associated injuries. Mean hospital stay was 10.9 days (range 1-35 days). In the parent population, there were 71 deaths (6.0%), whereas there was only 1 death (1.9%) in the foot-injured group (with fractures including open book pelvic, T6-8, unilateral open femur, tibial, ankle, and metatarsal) with an ISS 33, who died of multiorgan dysfunction syndrome. At final follow-up, all patients underwent radiologic and clinical assessment of foot injuries. Forty-three patients returned to their previous occupation and level of mobility. Ten of the more significantly injured patients had to modify their occupation from manual to sedentary-type jobs due to their foot injuries. We noted a pattern of complex ipsilateral foot and limb injury in nine patients, which we postulate was due to the actual mechanism of contact with the road surface. CONCLUSION: Motorcycle accidents continue to be a source of severe injury, especially to the foot. The most common foot injury is a metatarsal fracture; however, there must be a high index of suspicion for associated injuries. Although these injuries are associated with a low mortality rate, they require prompt assessment and treatment to limit long-term morbidity and disability. The difference in foot injury pattern and mortality between the parent population and our series, among other factors, potentially may be influenced by the actual mechanism of contact with the road surface and the modifying action of the foot during the accident.  相似文献

IntroductionFall is the second most common mechanism of trauma worldwide after road traffic injuries. Data on fall predominantly comes from the high-income countries (HICs) and mostly includes injuries in children and elderly. There are very few studies from low- and middle-income countries(LMICs) that describe fall related injuries other than fragility fractures in elderly. This study describes the profile of poly-trauma patients admitted with a history of ‘fall’ and assesses the variables associated with mortality.MethodWe analyzed data from the ‘Towards Improved Trauma Care Outcome’ (TITCO) database which prospectively collected data of poly-trauma patients admitted to four major tertiary care hospitals of India between 2013 to 2015. Patients across all age groups admitted to hospital with the history of ‘fall’; were included in our study. Single bone fractures were excluded.  The Kaplan Meier survival analysis was used to estimate the survival probability in different age groups.ResultsA total of 3686 patients were included in our study. The median age of the patients was 28 years (IQR: 9, 47) with the majority being males (73.6%). Almost one-third of the patients were within the age group of 0-14 (30.4%). Most of the patients (79.9%) had a diagnosis of traumatic brain injury (TBI). The overall in-hospital mortality was 18% (664), but higher at 39.0% among patients over 65 years of age. Probability of survival decreased with increase of age.ConclusionFalling from height is a common injury mechanism in India, occurring more in young males and usually associated with TBI. Isolated TBI and TBI associated with other injuries are the main contributors of mortality in fall injuries. Mortality from these injuries increased with age and ISS.  相似文献
