The aim of this study was to investigate differences in strength and endurance between elite and elite junior ice hockey players. Participants included 18 elite players and 21 junior elite male players (24.2 +/- 4.7 vs. 17.6 +/- 0.9 years of age, 84.2 +/- 8.1 vs. 72.3 +/- 6.0 kg body mass (p < 0.01), 179.9 +/- 6.1 vs. 179.0 +/- 7.0 cm). Absolute maximal oxygen uptake was significantly higher in elite than junior players (4.8 vs. 4.2 L x min(-1), p < 0.01), but relative expressions, including allometric scaling, eliminated the difference. Elite players lifted significantly more weight than juniors in 1 repetition maximum squats (200.0 +/- 28.9 vs. 140.3 +/- 19.5 kg, p < 0.01) and in bench press (100.8 +/- 12.8 vs. 75.3 +/- 12.8 kg, p < 0.01). Elite players also ran significantly faster in the 10 m sprint (1.80 +/- 0.07 vs. 1.88 +/- 0.08 s, p < 0.01), and had greater jumping height (27.2 +/- 3.2 vs. 20.5 +/- 3.0 cm, p < 0.01) and peak force (2336.4 +/- 219.9 vs. 2011.9 +/- 180.1 N, p < 0.01) when holding 50 extra kg. No differences were found for the 40 m sprint or for the rate of force development in jumping. This study revealed that the main differences between elite and junior ice hockey players at a high performance level seem to be in strength and body mass. The results therefore identify important factors for juniors to improve in the transition phase from junior to elite level.  相似文献

To be successful in international competitions, judo athletes must achieve an excellent level of physical fitness and physical condition during training. This article reviews the physiological profiles of elite judo athletes from different sex, age and weight categories. Body fat is generally low for these athletes, except for the heavyweight competitors. In general, elite judo athletes presented higher upper body anaerobic power and capacity than non-elite athletes. Lower body dynamic strength seems to provide a distinction between elite and recreational judo players, but not high-level judo players competing for a spot on national teams. Even maximal isometric strength is not a discriminant variable among judo players. However, more studies focusing on isometric strength endurance are warranted. Although aerobic power and capacity are considered relevant to judo performance, the available data do not present differences among judo athletes from different competitive levels. Typical maximal oxygen uptake values are around 50-55?mL/kg/min for male and 40-45?mL/kg/min for female judo athletes. As for other variables, heavyweight competitors presented lower aerobic power values. The typical differences commonly observed between males and females in the general population are also seen in judo athletes when analysing anaerobic power and capacity, aerobic power, and maximal strength and power. However, further research is needed concerning the differences among the seven weight categories in which judo athletes compete.  相似文献

This study compared physical characteristics (body height [BH], body mass [BM], body fat [BF], and fat free mass [FFM]), one repetition maximum bench press (1RM (BP)), jumping explosive power (VJ), handball throwing velocity, power-load relationship of the leg and arm extensor muscles, 5- and 15-m sprint running time, and running endurance in elite (n = 16; EF) and amateur (n = 15; AF) female handball players aged 17 - 38. Results revealed that, compared to AF, EF players presented similar values in body mass and percent body fat, but higher values (p < 0.001 - 0.05) in BH (6 %), FFM (10 %), 1RM (BP) (23 %), VJ (10 %), handball throwing velocity (11 %), power-load relationship of the arm (25 %) and leg (12 %) extensors, as well as 5- and 15-m sprint (3 - 4 %) and endurance running velocities (13 %). Univariate regression analyses showed that 1RM (BP) was associated with throwing velocity (R (2) = 0.64). The higher absolute values of maximal strength and muscle power, although explained by the differences in fat free mass, will give EF an advantage to sustain certain handball game actions. The association between 1RM (BP) and throwing velocity suggests that throwing velocity values in female handball players depend more on maximal strength than on the capacity to move low loads at high velocities, during elbow extension actions.  相似文献

PURPOSE: Fifteen elite male handball players were studied to examine the effects of an entire season of play on physical fitness and throwing velocity. METHODS: One repetition maximal bench press (1RMBP), jumping explosive strength, power-load relationship of the leg and arm extensor muscles, 5- and 15-m sprint running time, endurance running, and handball throwing velocity (standing and three-step running throw) were assessed on four times (T1, T2, T3, and T4), during a 45-wk season. Individual volumes and intensities of training and competition were quantified for 11 activities. RESULTS: From T1 to T3, significant increases occurred in free fatty mass (1.4%), 1RMBP (1.9%), standing throwing velocity (6.5%), and three-step throwing velocity (6.2%). No significant changes were observed throughout the season in endurance running and explosive strength-related variables. Significant correlations (P < 0.05-0.01) were observed between strength training time and changes in standing throwing velocity as well as between high-intensity endurance training time and changes in endurance running. In addition, linear inverse relationships were observed between low-intensity endurance training time and changes in muscle power output of the lower extremities. CONCLUSION: The handball season resulted in significant increases in maximal and specific strength of the upper-extremity but not in the lower-extremity actions. The correlations observed suggest that training time at low intensity should be given less attention, whereas the training stimuli for high-intensity endurance running and leg strength training should be given more careful attention in the full training season program.  相似文献

In brief: Professional football players participated in a conditioning program before entering regular preseason training. The program comprised training in functional strength, aerobic endurance, sprinting, power, ballistics, plyometrics, and football skills. Seven fitness variables were measured at the beginning and at the end of the program: body fat, lean body weight, treadmill performance, maximum oxygen uptake, ventilatory anaerobic threshold, agility, and vertical jump. The offensive linemen, who as a group scored lowest on the pretest, improved significantly on all seven tests.  相似文献

PURPOSE: Sixteen elite female handball players were studied to examine the effects of an entire season on anthropometric characteristics, physical fitness, and throwing velocity. METHODS: One-repetition-maximum bench press (1RMBP), jumping explosive strength, power-load relationship of the leg and arm extensor muscles, 5- and 15-m sprint running time, endurance running, and handball throwing velocity were assessed in four periods. Individual volumes and intensities of training and competition were quantified for 11 activities. RESULTS: During the season, significant increases (P < 0.05-0.01) occurred in fat-free mass (1.8 +/- 1.2%), 1RMBP (11 +/- 7.4%), bench press (12-21%) and half-squat (7-13%) muscle power output, vertical jumping height (12 +/- 7.2%), throwing velocity (8 +/- 5.9%), and a significant decrease in percent body fat (9 +/- 8.7%). No changes were observed in sprint and endurance running. Significant correlations (P < 0.05-0.01) were observed between time devoted to games and changes in velocity at submaximal loads during bench press actions, as well as between changes in muscle velocity output of the upper and lower extremities and changes in throwing velocity. Changes in percent body fat or body mass correlated (P < 0.01) positively with changes in maximal strength and muscle power. CONCLUSION: The handball season resulted in significant increases in anthropometric characteristics, physical fitness, and throwing velocity. The correlations observed suggest the importance of including explosive strength exercises of the knee and elbow extensions. Special attention may be needed to be paid to the mode of body fat loss, to increase endurance capacity without interfering in strength gains. Official and training games may be an adequate stimulus for enhancing certain physical fitness characteristics in female elite handball players.  相似文献

Background: Gaelic football, soccer, and hurling are prominent field games in Ireland and involve participants undertaking a variety of playing tasks and skills which place various physiological demands on the participants. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the mid-season physiological profiles of elite players.

Methods: Physiological assessment was carried out on 29 inter-county Gaelic footballers, 30 inter-county hurlers, and 21 League of Ireland soccer players.

Results: Significant differences were reported for % body fat (p<0.05), aerobic capacity (p<0.05), flexibility (p<0.05), upper body strength (p<0.05), upper body strength endurance (p<0.05), abdominal endurance (p<0.05), and speed endurance (p<0.05), while there were no differences recorded for height, weight, or speed levels. A relatively heterogeneous body size is evident for all three sports. Soccer players had lower body fat levels, greater aerobic capacity, greater strength endurance, and greater flexibility compared to both Gaelic footballers and hurlers, possibly due to specific training and conditioning programmes or physical adaptation to match play The greater strength of both Gaelic footballers and hurlers and the superior speed endurance levels of Gaelic footballers also reflect the physical nature of the sports. Similar speed levels amongst all three sports reflect the importance of speed for performance.

Conclusions: The various physiological attributes for Gaelic football, soccer, and hurling reflect the physical requirements for success and participation in each of these field games.

This study examined the effects of concurrent strength and endurance training on neuromuscular and endurance characteristics compared to strength or endurance training alone. Previously untrained men were divided into strength (S: n=16), endurance (E: n=11) or concurrent strength and endurance (SE: n=11) training groups. S and E trained 2 times and SE 2 + 2 times a week for strength and endurance during the 21-week period. Maximal unilateral isometric and bilateral concentric forces of leg muscles increased similarly in S and SE by 20-28% (p<0.01) and improvements in isometric forces were accompanied by increases (p<0.05) of maximal muscle activation. Rate of force development of isometric action (p<0.05) improved only in S. The increase in muscle cross-sectional area of the quadriceps femoris in SE (11%, p<0.001) were greater than in S (6%, p<0.001) or in E (2%, p<0.05). SE and E increased maximal cycling power (SE: 17% and E: 11%, p<0.001) and VO2MAX (SE: 17%, p<0.001 and E: 5%, ns.). These results suggest that the present moderate volume 21-week concurrent SE training in previously untrained men optimizes the magnitude of muscle hypertrophy, maximal strength and endurance development, but interferes explosive strength development, compared with strength or endurance training alone.  相似文献

This study sought to study the effect of high intensity aerobic interval endurance training on peak stroke volume and maximal strength training on mechanical efficiency in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients. 8 CAD patients (age 61.4 ± 3.7 years) trained 30 interval training sessions with 4 × 4 min intervals at 85-95% of peak heart rate while 10 CAD patients (age 66.5 ± 5.5 years) trained 24 sessions of maximal horizontal leg press. In the interval training group peak stroke volume increased significantly by 23% from 94.1 ± 23.0 mL · beat (-1) to 115.8 ± 22.4 mL · beat (-1) (p<0.05). Peak oxygen uptake increased significantly by 17% from 27.2 ± 4.5 mL · kg (-1) · min (-1) to 31.8 ± 5.0 mL · kg (-1) min (-1) (p<0.05) in the same group. In contrast, there was no such exercise training-induced change in peak stroke volume or peak oxygen uptake in the maximal strength training group, despite a 35% improvement in sub maximal walking performance.  相似文献

Hip adductor injuries are frequent in football, and players with low adductor strength appear to be at increased risk of injury. High adductor muscle activity has been shown in the Copenhagen Adduction exercise (CA); however, an associated strength gain has not been investigated. This study aims to examine the eccentric hip adduction strength (EHAD) gain using the CA in‐season. Two U‐19 sub‐elite football teams, including 24 football players, were randomized to either an 8‐week supervised progressive training program in addition to the usual training (intervention) or to continue training as usual (control). EHAD, eccentric hip abduction strength (EHAB), and side‐bridge endurance were measured using reliable test procedures at baseline and follow‐up by a blinded tester. There was a significant interaction between group and time on EHAD, EHAB, and EHAD/EHAB ratio (P < 0.025). The intervention group demonstrated a 35.7% increase in EHAD (P < 0.001); a 20.3% increase in EHAB (P = 0.003), and 12.3% increase in EHAD/EHAB ratio (P = 0.019). No significant within‐group differences were found in the control group (P > 0.335). Compliance was 91.25%, and median muscle soreness ranged from 0 to 2. The CA implemented in‐season with an 8‐week progressive training program elicited a large significant increase in EHAD, EHAB, and EHAD/EHAB ratio.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of ballistic and power training on the skills, physical fitness and body composition adaptations of élite table tennis players. Thirty male table tennis players (age: 24?±?7 years, stature: 175?±?6 cm, body mass 74?±?16 kg, percentage of fat mass (%FM) 12?±?7%, mean?±?SD), who were able to perform top spin strike properly, were randomly assigned to three groups: power training (PT), ballistic training (BT) and no training (Control, CON). PT and BT trained 3 times per week for 8 weeks. PT consisted of three sets for six different stations, 60–80% of one repetition maximum (1RM). BT consisted of three sets for five different throwing exercises. Pre- and post-intervention group comparisons were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA with repeated measurements of two factors (group?×?time). After training, significant interactions were observed in increasing muscle strength, muscle endurance, explosive power, anaerobic power, agility and grip strength regardless of the exercise methods (p?<?0.05). Moreover, both training regimens were not effective in changing body composition, reaction time and skills (p?>?0.05). In conclusion, the results of the present study suggest that physical fitness adaptations can be increased similarly after 8 weeks of power and ballistic training, in table tennis players. So coaches and elite table tennis players can use ballistic and power training to improve their performance without having to worry about the negative impact of their training on their skill and explosive power performance.

The aim of the study was to compare anthropometric and physical performance data of players who were selected for a Victorian elite junior U18 Australian rules football squad. Prior to the selection of the final training squad, 54 players were assessed using a battery of standard anthropometric and physical performance tests. Multivariate analysis (MANOVA) showed significant (p<0.05) differences between selected and non-selected players when height, mass, 20-m sprint, agility and vertical jump height were considered collectively. Univariate analysis revealed that the vertical jump was the only significant (p<0.05) individual test and a near significant trend (p=0.07) for height differentiating between selected and non-selected players with medium effect sizes for all other tests except endurance. In this elite junior football squad, physical characteristics can be observed that discriminate between players selected and non-selected, and demonstrates the value of physical fitness testing within the talent identification process of junior (16-18 years) players for squad and/or team selection. Based on MANOVA results, the findings from this study suggest team selection appeared to be related to a generally higher performance across the range of tests. Further, age was not a confounding variable as players selected tended to be younger than those non-selected. These findings reflect the general consensus that, in state-based junior competition, there is evidence of promoting overall player development, selecting those who are generally able to fulfil a range of positions and selecting players on their potential.  相似文献

Equivocal findings exist on the effect of concurrent strength (S) and endurance (E) training on endurance performance and muscle morphology. Further, the influence of concurrent SE training on muscle fiber-type composition, vascularization and endurance capacity remains unknown in top-level endurance athletes. The present study examined the effect of 16 weeks of concurrent SE training on maximal muscle strength (MVC), contractile rate of force development (RFD), muscle fiber morphology and composition, capillarization, aerobic power (VO2max), cycling economy (CE) and long/short-term endurance capacity in young elite competitive cyclists (n=14). MVC and RFD increased 12-20% with SE (P<0.01) but not E. VO2max remained unchanged. CE improved in E to reach values seen in SE. Short-term (5-min) endurance performance increased (3-4%) after SE and E (P<0.05), whereas 45-min endurance capacity increased (8%) with SE only (P<0.05). Type IIA fiber proportions increased and type IIX proportions decreased after SE training (P<0.05) with no change in E. Muscle fiber area and capillarization remained unchanged. In conclusion, concurrent strength/endurance training in young elite competitive cyclists led to an improved 45-min time-trial endurance capacity that was accompanied by an increased proportion of type IIA muscle fibers and gains in MVC and RFD, while capillarization remained unaffected.  相似文献

PURPOSE: This investigation examined the effect that long-term football (soccer) participation may have on areal bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC) in male football players. METHODS: Dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans were obtained in 33 recreational male football players active in football for the last 12 yr and 19 nonactive subjects from the same population. Both groups had comparable age (23 +/- 4 yr vs 24 +/- 3 yr), body mass (73 +/- 7 kg vs 72 +/- 11 kg), height (176 +/- 5 cm vs 176 +/- 8 cm), and calcium intake (23 +/- 10 mg.kg(-1).d(-1) vs 20 +/- 11 mg.kg(-1).d(-1) (mean +/- SD). RESULTS: The football players showed 8% greater total lean mass (P < 0.001), 13% greater whole-body BMC (P < 0.001), and 5 units lower percentage body fat (P < 0.001) than control subjects. Lumbar spine (L2-L4) BMC and BMD were 13% and 10% higher, respectively, in the football players than in the control subjects (P < 0.05). Furthermore, football players displayed higher femoral neck BMC (24%, 18%, 23%, and 24% for the femoral neck, intertrochanteric, greater trochanter, and Ward's triangle subregions, respectively, P < 0.05) and BMD (21%, 19%, 21%, and 27%, respectively, P < 0.05) than controls. BMC in the whole leg was 16-17% greater in the football players, mainly because of enhanced BMD (9-10%) but also because of bone hypertrophy, since the area occupied by the osseous pixels was 7% higher (867 +/- 63 cm2 vs 814 +/- 26 cm2, P < 0.05). Leg muscle mass was 11% higher in the football players than in the control subjects (20,635 +/- 2,073 g vs 18,331 +/- 2,301 g, P < 0.001). No differences were found between the legs in either groups for BMC, BMD, and muscle mass. Left leg muscle mass was correlated with femoral neck BMC and BMD (P < 0.001), as well as with lumbar spine (L2-L4) BMC and BMD (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Long-term football participation, starting at prepubertal age, is associated with markedly increased BMC and BMD at the femoral neck and lumbar spine regions.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to describe the anthropometric and physiological parameters that apply to a USA amateur rugby union club team. Fifteen players who were members of the club's first team were evaluated for body composition, muscular strength, power and endurance, flexibility, anaerobic power, anaerobic capacity, and cardio-respiratory function shortly after completion of the regular season. Means for some of the variables measured include: age, 29 yr; height, 180 cm; weight, 84 kg; lean body weight, 74 kg; body fat, 12%, endurance sit-ups, 50/min; vertical jump height, 51 cm; anaerobic power output, 132 m.kg.s-1 (1.32 kw); anaerobic capacity, 2247 m.kp/40s (22.5 kJ); maximum heart rate, 186 beats/min; maximum ventilation, 175 l/min-1; maximum respiratory quotient 1.23; and maximum oxygen uptake, 56.6 ml.kg-1 min-1. In comparison with other rugby players studied these players had higher maximum oxygen uptake values, were similar in endurance sit-up and vertical jump ability, exhibited less upper body strength, and the forwards had lower body fat percentages. They were generally within the range of scores found to describe the aerobic and anaerobic fitness, and body composition of other élite amateur and professional intermittent sport athletes.  相似文献

In the quest to maximize average propulsive stroke impulses over 2000-m racing, testing and training of various strength parameters have been incorporated into the physical conditioning plans of rowers. Thus, the purpose of this review was 2-fold: to identify strength tests that were reliable and valid correlates (predictors) of rowing performance; and, to establish the benefits gained when strength training was integrated into the physical preparation plans of rowers. The reliability of maximal strength and power tests involving leg extension (e.g. leg pressing) and arm pulling (e.g. prone bench pull) was high (intra-class correlations 0.82-0.99), revealing that elite rowers were significantly stronger than their less competitive peers. The greater strength of elite rowers was in part attributed to the correlation between strength and greater lean body mass (r?=?0.57-0.63). Dynamic lower body strength tests that determined the maximal external load for a one-repetition maximum (1RM) leg press (kg), isokinetic leg extension peak force (N) or leg press peak power (W) proved to be moderately to strongly associated with 2000-m ergometer times (r?=?-0.54 to -0.68; p?相似文献

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility and the effects of a long-term training program with endurance and strength elements for patients with advanced congestive heart failure (CHF). METHODS: We studied 14 patients, mean age 57 yr, mean NYHA class 2.7, mean LVEF 29%, and mean VO2max 17.2 mL x kg(-1) x min(-1). They underwent a 6 months' outpatient "in-hospital" training program (80 sessions). After an introduction period the program was subdivided into four cycles in which endurance and strength were revalued and progressively increased. Endurance was measured by spiro-ergometric exercise testing with concomitant lactate determination, while strength was measured on an isokinetic dynamometer. RESULTS: The compliance ratio was 89% and there were no major problems during training. NYHA class improved from a mean of 2.7 to 1.5 (P = 0.0001), working capacity from 83 to 100 W (P = 0.001), VO2 from 16.7 to 18.4 mL x kg(-1) x min(-1) (P = 0.02), and maximal exercise lactate from 4.1 to 5.2 mmol x L(-1) (P = 0.01). At isokinetic testing we found a significant 18% increase in muscular endurance of knee flexors (P = 0.008) and 25% increase of knee extensors (P = 0.007). The increase of peak torque, total work, and average power reached statistical significance only for the knee extensors. CONCLUSION: This pilot study showed that progressively adapted global strength training in association with traditional endurance training is feasible for selected patients with CHF. Additional larger studies should be done to test the effects, the safety, and the composition of such supervised "in-hospital" training programs.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of repetitions-to-fatigue (RTF) using an absolute load of 102.3 kg (225 lbs) to estimate one-repetition maximum (1-RM) bench press performance in college football players using various prediction equations. METHODS: EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: a prospective study on the association between muscular endurance and muscular strength. PARTICIPANTS: 260 players from NCAA Division IA (n=43), IAA (n=63), II (n=129), and red-shirts (n=25) were evaluated at the conclusion of a minimum of eight weeks of heavy-resistance training during the off-season. MEASURES: all subjects performed a 1-RM bench press and RTF using an absolute load of 102.3 kg. RESULTS: The Mayhew et al. NFL-225 equation nonsignificantly overestimated 1-RM from RTF by 0.5 kg, while the Chapman et al. NFL-225 equation significantly underpredicted by 3.2 kg, although both equations were comparable in the number of players predicted within +/-4.5 kg of actual 1-RM (52% vs 51%, respectively). Only two of nine RTF equations currently in use produced predicted 1-RM values that were not significantly different from actual 1-RM performance. CONCLUSIONS: Specific NFL-225 equations are more accurate in estimating 1-RM bench press from absolute muscle endurance in college football players than previous published RTF equations. The accuracy of prediction decreases at higher repetitions.  相似文献

Anthropometric and fitness profiles of elite players in two football codes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
BACKGROUND: The aims were to describe anthropometric and performance characteristics of elite players in two football codes and explore the differences between them. METHODS: Data were compared by means of "t"-tests. Subjects: subjects were 19 professional soccer players and 33 inter-county Gaelic football players. Settings: measurements were made on members of a Premier League soccer team throughout their regular season, whilst the Gaelic footballers were members of the Mayo squad preparing for the 1999 All-Ireland championship. RESULTS: The variability in stature was significantly greater in the soccer players compared to the Gaelic footballers (p<0.01). Performances in the 10-m and 30-m sprints, and in vertical jump were superior in the soccer group compared to the Gaelic footballers (p<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The intra-group variability on the anthropometric and performance measures of the soccer players is likely to be due to the specificity of positional roles. The combined groups could be described as lean and muscular with a reasonably high level of capacity in all areas of physical performance. Anaerobic characteristics of the professional soccer players were superior to those of Gaelic football players. It is concluded that anthropometric and performance assessment of elite footballers using mean values masks the heterogeneity evident within the football codes.  相似文献

Top soccer players do not necessarily have an extraordinary capacity in any of the areas of physical performance. Soccer training is largely based on the game itself, and a common recruitment pattern from player to coach and manager reinforces this tradition. New developments in understanding adaptive processes to the circulatory system and endurance performance as well as nerve and muscle adaptations to training and performance have given rise to more effective training interventions. Endurance interval training using an intensity at 90-95% of maximal heart rate in 3- to 8-minute bouts have proved to be effective in the development of endurance, and for performance improvements in soccer play. Strength training using high loads, few repetitions and maximal mobilisation of force in the concentric mode have proved to be effective in the development of strength and related parameters. The new developments in physical training have important implications for the success of soccer players. The challenge both for coaches and players is to act upon the new developments and change existing training practice.  相似文献
