Poor sleep quality has been shown to adversely affect neurobehavior including an increase in depression symptoms. Police officers are at increased risk of poor sleep quality due to occupational factors. This study analyzed self-reported sleep and depression data from police officers; 391 police officers from Buffalo, New York reported on sleep and depression by completing the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression (CES-D) questionnaires. Mean CES-D scores were assessed across quintiles of PSQI. As PSQI scores increased, reflecting poorer sleep quality, CES-D scores also increased significantly indicating an increase in depression symptoms as sleep quality worsens. This trend held for both male and female officers. Mean CES-D scores across quintiles ranged from 4.72 to 12.65 in men and from 5.53 to 12.63 in women. Multivariate adjustment only very slightly attenuated the association in female officers. After adjustmnent, five of the seven PSQI components showed statistically significant associations with CES-D scores in male officers and two in female officers. Sleep quality was significantly and independently associated with depressive symnptoms as evidenced by a trend of increasing depressive symptom scores with decreasing sleep quality in both male and female officers.  相似文献

Since police officers are frequently exposed to high stress situations, individual differences in the response to stress and trauma are of interest. We examined the association of hardiness components (commitment, control and challenge) with depression, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, and symptoms of general psychological distress in police officers. The random sample included 105 officers (40 women and 65 men) from the Buffalo Cardio-Metabolic Police Stress (BCOPS) study baseline visit. Components of hardiness were measured using a 15-item hardiness scale. Depressive symptoms were measured using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale (CES-D), PTSD symptoms were measured using the impact of events scale (IES), and symptoms of general psychological distress were measured using the Brief Symptoms Inventory (BSI). Associations were assessed using linear regression analysis. Models were adjusted for age, education and marital status. Because of significant gender interactions, analyses were stratified by gender. The hardiness control dimension was significantly and negatively associated with CES-D for both genders but was not associated with IES. Hardiness commitment was significantly and negatively associated with both CES-D and IES in women. Men had negative but non-significant associations for commitment with CES-D and IES. Hardiness commitment was negatively associated with the overall BSI score for both men and women but the association was only significant for men, though the strength of the association was stronger for women. This is likely a result of the impact of the smaller sample size for women. The magnitude of gender differences in these associations shows that for depressive and PTSD symptoms, the commitment dimension of hardiness may be more protective in female police officers than in male officers.  相似文献

Interactive effect of obesity indexes on cognition   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This study aimed to investigate associations between obesity and poor cognitive performance using data from a community study of 467 individuals aged > or = 65 years in South Korea. Cognitive function was ascertained using the Korean Mini-Mental State Examination (K-MMSE), and obesity using anthropometric measures including waist circumference and body mass index (BMI). Poor cognitive performance was present in 37% of the sample. General obesity (BMI > or = 25) and poor cognition were strongly associated in the presence of abdominal obesity. Poor cognition was negatively associated with overweight (BMI 23-25) with normal waist circumference. Interaction terms with abdominal obesity for BMI increase were significant (p = 0.007). Obesity was associated with poor cognition, and obesity indexes must be carefully considered to reveal this relationship.  相似文献

Background:The moderating effect of physical activity (PA) on relations between chronic stress and adiposity is unknown in youth.Purpose: The objective is to assess the mediating effect of PA on relations between stress and adiposity in youth. Methods: Participants were 303 youths (47% Black,53%White,50%male, M age = 16.6 years). The Adolescent Resource Challenge Scale assessed personal stress, whereas median rent or mortgage in the neighborhood reflected community stress. Body mass index (BMI) and sum of skinfolds reflected general adiposity, and waist circumference measured central adiposity. Days per week performing PA sufficient to work up a sweat measured PA.Results: Hierarchical regressions predicted each adiposity measure adjusting for age, race, gender, family socioeconomic status, and parental smoking. Independent contributions of personal stress, but not community stress, were found on BMI and sum of skinfolds. A similar model showed that both personal and community stress predicted waist circumference. PA was independently, inversely associated with sum of skinfolds but not BMI or waist circumference. The interaction between PA and personal stress predicted all three adiposity measures. The interaction of PA with community stress predicted BMI.Conclusions: PA appears to buffer the effects of chronic stress on adiposity, providing evidence that PA is a protective factor for health. The research was supported by National Institutes of Health Grant HL69999. These results were presented as a poster at the Annual Meeting of the Society of Behavioral Medicine, Salt Lake City, Utah, March 21, 2003 and published as an abstract in Annals of Behavioral Medicine, 2003, 25(Suppl.):S082.  相似文献

The authors investigated the increased risk of mortality from subthreshold depression and examined differences in risk by gender. Data from the Duke University Established Populations for Epidemiologic Studies of the Elderly (EPESE) longitudinal study of 4,162 community-dwelling adults age 65 or older were used for these analyses. Depression was measured with a modified version of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). Three follow-up periods were assessed, 1986-1989, 1989-1992, and 1992-1996. Using logistic regression, they determined the odds of mortality from both CES-D depression (> or =9 symptoms) and subthreshold depression (6-8 symptoms) by sex for each follow-up period, controlling for sociodemographic factors, physical and cognitive health and functioning, and health behaviors. CES-D depression was not associated with mortality in either men or women. Subthreshold depression was also not associated with mortality in men; in women, however, subthreshold depression was negatively related to mortality (OR=0.60; p=0.002) across the three periods. Subthreshold depression may result in different outcomes in women, possibly mediating against mortality.  相似文献

This study was designed to test the extent to which depressive symptoms are associated with the presence of the metabolic syndrome (MS) and each of its components, and whether these relationships are gender dependent. Participants were apparently healthy employed men (N=2,355) and women (N=1,525) who underwent a routine health check between the years 2003 and 2005. We used logistic regression analysis, predicting the MS by depressive symptoms, as assessed by the Patient Health Questionnaire, and the following control variables: age, education, smoking status, physical exercise, anxiety, and burnout. As hypothesized, we found that depression among women, but not men, was associated with a 1.94-fold risk of having the MS, and with an elevated risk of having two of its five components: elevated waist circumference (odds ratio, OR=2.23) and elevated glucose levels (OR=2.44). In addition, a positive trend was observed toward an association with the other three components: low high-density lipoprotein, hypertension, and elevated triglycerides. Among men depression was associated with elevated waist circumference only (OR=1.77). These findings suggest that especially among women, the association between depression and cardiovascular diseases might be linked to metabolic processes. If replicated in longitudinal studies, these findings may have important health-care policy implications with regard to depression management interventions.  相似文献

A heightened cortisol awakening response (CAR) is associated with adiposity in middle-aged men, but the causal significance of this effect is not known. We hypothesised that if disturbance in cortisol secretion is involved in the development of overweight and obesity, then it might be present in normal weight adults at increased risk of obesity on account of parental adiposity. The CAR and cortisol profile over the day were measured in 33 men and 62 women aged 18-25 years. Parental adiposity was assessed with figure ratings derived from the Contour Drawing Rating Scale, and these were correlated with parental self-reported body mass index (BMI) in a subset of participants (r=0.66-0.79). In men, a positive association was observed between the CAR and their judgements of their fathers' adiposity after controlling for age, smoking status, time of waking, and the participants' own BMI; the correlation was 0.56 (P=0.008) for the cortisol increase between waking and 30 min, and 0.47 (P=0.028) for the cortisol area under the curve. The correlation between the CAR and fathers' own reported BMI and figures ratings were also significant. The relationship between parental adiposity and the CAR in women was inconsistent, and the associations between the CAR and opposite gender parental adiposity were not significant. Parental adiposity was not related to cortisol output over the rest of the day or to the slope between waking and evening in either sex. The results of this study suggest that disturbances of cortisol secretion may present before the emergence of heightened adiposity in young men at raised risk for obesity.  相似文献

The relation between body fat distribution, as measured by the waist-to-hip circumference ratio, and the 2-year incidences of hypertension and stroke were examined in a cohort of 41,837 women aged 55-69 years. Women who developed hypertension were 2.1 (95% confidence interval 1.7-2.6) times more likely to be in the upper tertile of waist-to-hip ratio than those who did not. Adjustment for age, body mass index (kilograms per meter squared), cigarette smoking, physical activity, alcohol intake, and education level reduced this odds ratio to 1.6 (95% confidence interval 1.3-2.1). Women who developed a stroke were also 2.1 (95% confidence interval 1.5-2.9) times more likely to be in the upper tertile of waist-to-hip ratio than those who did not. Adjustment for the same covariates also lowered this odds ratio to 1.6 (95% confidence interval 1.1-2.4). Further adjustment for hypertension and diabetes mellitus reduced the estimated risk of stroke due to elevated waist-to-hip ratio to 1.3 (95% confidence interval 0.8-2.1). Hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cigarette smoking remained significantly associated with stroke incidence in the multivariate model. These results indicate that abdominal adiposity, as measured by an increased waist-to-hip ratio, increases the risks of hypertension and stroke, even after accounting for overall body mass. The association of abdominal adiposity with risk of stroke is related, in part, to the association of abdominal adiposity with hypertension and diabetes.  相似文献

Purpose

Obesity and depression are among the leading causes of disability in Mexico, but their association has not been explored yet. The aim of the current study was to investigate the association between obesity and depression in Mexican population.

Methods

We used data from the health and nutrition survey (ENSANUT 2012), which is representative of the Mexican population. Obesity was determined using the body mass index (BMI) and abdominal obesity by measuring waist circumference. Depressive symptoms were reported using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale Short-Form (CES-D-SF, scale 0–21). Regression analyses were performed between obesity and depression, adjusting for gender, age, living with a partner, education, and diabetes history.

Results

Obese women had 1.28 (95% CI 1.07–1.53) times the odds of having depression in comparison with normal-weight women, whereas no association was found for men (OR 0.94; 95% CI 0.74–1.19). A significant association between BMI and depressive symptoms score (β?=?0.05, 95% CI 0.02–0.07) was present in women, but no association was found for men (β?=???0.02, 95% CI ??0.05 to 0.00). There was a statistically significant association between waist circumference and depression scores again for women (β?=?0.03, 95% CI 0.01–0.04) but not for men (β?=?0.00, 95% CI ??0.01 to 0.01). No associations were found between abdominal obesity and depression for both genders. No association was found between different obesity severity levels and depression for both genders.

Conclusion

Obesity was associated with depression in Mexican women, whereas no association was found between obesity and depression in men.

ObjectivesSelf-reported sleep duration has been linked to body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference in previous work; however, data regarding if these associations are stronger in men or women have been mixed, and few studies have objectively measured sleep. We investigated self-reported and actigraphy-assessed sleep characteristics in relation to BMI and waist circumference and examined the extent to which these associations differ by gender.DesignArchived cross-sectional data collected from 2004 to 2006 from the National Survey of Midlife Development in the United States (MIDUS) Biomarkers Study were used. Participants included 1248 adults (43% men) who reported their habitual sleep duration, and a subset of participants (N = 441; 40% men) who underwent seven nights of wrist actigraphy.ResultsSelf-reported total sleep time (TST), actigraphy-assessed TST, and actigraphy-assessed sleep efficiency (SE) were inversely associated with BMI in the full sample of both men and women. Gender moderated associations between actigraphy assessments of sleep and anthropometric variables; however, TST and SE were related to BMI and waist circumference in women only. Associations between sleep and waist circumference were independent of BMI.ConclusionsSleep duration and sleep continuity are associated with body weight and distribution of body fat, but these associations were stronger or were only present in women.  相似文献

Police officers are considered to be a highly stressed population due to the nature of the work they perform. Repeated exposures to work stress and stressful life events can affect one's psychological and physiological well-being. The objective of this study was to determine whether negative life events and traumatic police incidents are associated with depression in police officers. One hundred randomly selected urban officers completed a series of self-report measures as part of a cross-sectional pilot study. Using four negative life event categories (none, low, medium, and high) a J-shaped pattern was observed with mean depression scores (+/- SD) of 9.26 (+/- 7.41), 6.21 (+/- 5.94), 8.17 (+/- 7.42), and 14.64 (+/- 8.04), respectively (test for linear trend p = 0.0186). Adjustment for age (p = 0.0209), then age, gender and ethnicity together (p = 0.0184) did not alter this pattern appreciably. No association between traumatic police incidents and depression was observed. Results indicate that exposure to multiple negative life events is significantly associated with elevated depression scores among this sample. Police agencies should consider developing psychological assistance efforts to help affected officers cope with these events and deal with depression.  相似文献

Obesity, abdominal obesity and Alzheimer disease   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
BACKGROUND/AIMS: Obesity has a strong association with vascular and metabolic diseases, which have been linked with Alzheimer disease (AD). While recent studies have reported an association between mid-life obesity and dementia, the role of later-life obesity is less clear. This study investigated the relation between AD, obesity and abdominal obesity at later-life in a case-control study. METHODS: Participants were 50 consecutive patients with probable AD from memory disorders clinics in Launceston, Australia, and Bristol, England, and 75 cognitively normal controls. Height and weight [from which body mass index (BMI) was calculated] and hip and waist circumferences (from which waist-hip ratio was calculated) were measured. Participants were classified according to their BMI as: underweight (BMI <20.0 kg/m2); normal weight (BMI 20.0-24.9 kg/m2); overweight (BMI 25-29.9 kg/m2), or obese (BMI > or = 30 kg/m2). They were classified as abdominally obese if their waist-hip ratio was >0.9 (men) or >0.8 (women). RESULTS: AD was associated with obesity [OR 9.5, 95% CI 2.4-37.3, p = 0.001], underweight (OR 5.4, CI 0.9-33.7, p = 0.07) and abdominal obesity (OR 2.5, CI 1.1-5.7, p = 0.027) using logistic regression analyses adjusted for age, sex and location. The inclusion of metabolic risk factors in the model increased the ORs for obesity (OR 12.6, CI 2.8-56.5, p = 0.001) and underweight (OR 7.9, CI 1.0-66.3, p = 0.056). CONCLUSION: AD may be associated with obesity, underweight and abdominal obesity at later life. Larger prospective studies are required to investigate this further.  相似文献

Excessive body weight gain, hyperprolactinemia and low gonadal steroid serum levels are often observed during chronic administration of antipsychotic drugs (AP). Clinical and experimental findings suggest that leptin, the peptidic hormone involved in long-term body weight regulation, and reproductive hormones are interrelated. Therefore, we assessed circulating leptin levels in healthy, lean women (n = 12) and men (n = 7) before and after short-term administration of the AP sulpiride (SUL, 200 mg/day). In addition, we studied psychotic obese (n = 9) and lean women (n = 13) under chronic treatment with diverse AP. No significant weight changes were observed after SUL administration in healthy women--initial weight: 54.9+/-2.6 Kg; final weight: 55.04+/-2.6, NS. Leptin levels did not change either: 11.9+/-1.5 ng/ml. vs. 10.6+/-1.3, NS. By contrast, a small, but significant weight gain was found in SUL-treated men--60.6+/-1.9 Kg. vs. 61.3+/-2.1, p = 0.004. Leptin and insulin levels were significantly higher after SUL administration--leptin: 2.77+/-0.22 ng/ml. vs. 13.9+/-2.5, p=0.035; insulin: 3.59+/-0.17 mIU/ml vs. 8.81+/-0.81, p = 0.0001. In these subjects, leptin levels positively correlated with body weight change (p = 0.006), and serum prolactin change (p = 0.001). Obese psychotic women (Body Mass Index, BMI, Kg/m2 = 31.5+/-1.03) displayed higher leptin levels than non-obese psychotic women (BMI = 25.5+/-0.52): 26.8+/-4.8, vs. 12.8+/-3.4 ng/ml, p = 0.006. In these women, a significant positive correlation was found between leptin levels and BMI (p = 0.0001), and between leptin and basal insulin levels (p = 0.001). These results show that the expected circulating leptin elevation which is observed when body weight raises, is preserved in people treated with AP drugs.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Studies relating adiposity to dementia are conflicting. We explored the associations of body mass index (BMI), (calculated as weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters) waist circumference, and weight change to dementia, probable Alzheimer disease, and dementia associated with stroke (DAS). DESIGN: Persons without dementia were followed up for 5 years; 893 persons had BMI data, 907 had waist circumference data, and 709 had a second weight measurement. Dementia was ascertained using standard methods. Cox proportional hazards regression was used for analyses using follow-up as time to event, adjusting for demographics and apolipoprotein E-epsilon4 status. RESULTS: Compared with persons in the first quartile of BMI, persons in the third quartile had a lower dementia and Alzheimer disease risk and persons in the second quartile had a lower DAS risk. The association between BMI and dementia resembled a U shape in those younger than 76 years, while dementia risk decreased with higher BMI in those 76 years and older. The fourth quartile of waist circumference was related to a higher DAS risk in the whole sample, and to dementia and Alzheimer disease in persons younger than 76 years. Weight loss was related to a higher dementia and DAS risk, and weight gain was related to a higher DAS risk only. CONCLUSIONS: The prospective association between adiposity and dementia differs depending on the anthropometric measure used, and is modified by age. This may explain previous conflicting reports.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the association of police officer stress with metabolic syndrome (MetSyn) and its individual components. Participants included 288 men and 102 women from the Buffalo Cardio-Metabolic Occupational Police Stress (BCOPS) Study. Police stress was measured using the Spielberger police stress survey. MetSyn was defined using 2005 guidelines. Results were stratified by gender ANCOVA was used to describe differences in number of MetSyn components across police stress categories after adjusting for age and smoking status. Logistic regression was used to calculate odds ratios for having each MetSyn component by increased police stress levels. The multivariate-adjusted number of MetSyn components increased significantly in women across tertiles of the three perceived stress subscales, and administrative and organizational pressure and lack of support indices for the previous month. No association was found among male officers. Abdominal obesity and reduced high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were consistently associated with police stress in women. Police stress, particularly organizational pressure and lack of support, was associated with MetSyn among female but not male police officers. Given the stress of policing and the adverse cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors prevalent among police officers, exploring the association between specific types of police stress and subclinical CVD is important.  相似文献

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: To assess the presence of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in a population of obese children and adolescents and to investigate the role of fat distribution in predicting SDB. PATIENTS AND METHODS: One hundred and thirty-two obese children and adolescents, aged 5.0-14.2 years, were consecutively referred to the Department of Pediatrics of the Second University of Naples for screening of obesity. The control group consisted of 453, sex- and age-matched lean subjects selected from local schools in Campania region. The sleep disturbances scale for children (SDSC) questionnaire was used to evaluate SDB prevalence. In all subjects, waist circumference, triceps and sub-scapular skin folds were measured, and Z-scores were calculated. RESULTS: Obese subjects showed significantly higher SDB and sleep hyperhydrosis (SHY) scores than controls. The Z-score of waist circumference correlated with SDB (r=0.32; P=0.006) and SHY factor scores (r=0.37; P=0.005), while the Z-score of body mass index (BMI), triceps and sub-scapular skin folds were not correlated with any SDSC factor scores. Subjects in the higher tertile for Z-score of waist circumference had a significantly higher risk for developing SDB (OR 1.9; 95% IC 1.8-3.2) and SHY (OR 2.1; 95% IC 2.0-4.5). CONCLUSIONS: Waist circumference is a more reliable index than total adiposity and subcutaneous fat in predicting the risk of obese children to develop SDB.  相似文献

Depression is associated with an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Abdominal obesity is also a high risk factor for these diseases. Therefore, symptoms of depression and anxiety were examined in relation to abdominal obesity. A total of 59 middle-aged men volunteered for measurements with the Hamilton Depression Scale (HDS), the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAS). These results were examined in relation to body mass index (BMI), waist/hip ratio (WHR) and sagittal abdominal diameter, a measurement of intra-abdominal fat mass, and metabolic variables. Men with WHR>1.0 (n=26) in comparison with men with normal WHR (<1.0, n=33) showed significantly higher sum scores in all the scales used. There were positive correlations between the sum scores of all the depression scales and the WHR or the sagittal abdominal diameter. BMI correlated comparatively weakly only with the HDS. The correlations with the WHR remained when the influence of BMI was eliminated, suggesting that obesity is less involved than centralization of body fat. Insulin and glucose were significantly related to the HDS. Morning cortisol levels were negatively related to the BDI and (borderline) to the MADRS, suggesting perturbations of the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. We conclude that men with abdominal obesity have symptoms of depression and anxiety.  相似文献

Obesity and overweight are often defined by the body mass index (BMI), which associates with metabolic and cardiovascular disease, and possibly with dementia as well as variations in brain volume. However, body fat distribution and abdominal obesity (as measured by waist circumference) is more strongly correlated with cardiovascular and metabolic risk than is BMI. While prior studies have revealed negative associations between gray matter tissue volumes and BMI, the relationship with respect to waist circumference remains largely unexplored. We therefore investigated the effects of both BMI and waist circumference on local gray matter volumes in a group of 115 healthy subjects screened to exclude physical or mental disorders that might affect the central nervous system. Results revealed significant negative correlations for both BMI and waist circumference where regional gray matter effects were largest within the hypothalamus and further encompassed prefrontal, anterior temporal and inferior parietal cortices, and the cerebellum. However, associations were more widespread and pronounced for waist circumference than BMI. Follow‐up analyses showed that these relationships differed significantly across gender. While associations were similar for both BMI and waist circumference for males, females showed more extensive correlations for waist circumference. Our observations suggest that waist circumference is a more sensitive indicator than BMI, particularly in females, for potentially determining the adverse effects of obesity and overweight on the brain and associated risks to health. Abstract

Background. We tested the hypothesis that uric acid levels are higher in subjects with schizophrenia treated with clozapine than in healthy control and they correlate with anthropometric measurements, laboratory tests and results of bioimpedance analysis of body composition. Methods. Data for 24 subjects with schizophrenia treated with clozapine and 24 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers was analyzed. Results. There was no difference of fasting uric acid concentrations between clozapine and control groups (4.5 ± 1.4 vs. 4.3 ± 1.3 mg/dl, P = 0.87). Regarding the whole group, uric acid levels were significantly higher in men (5.2 ± 1.2 vs. 3.6 ± 0.9, P < 0.001). Uric acid levels correlated with weight (R = 0.58, P = 0.003), body mass index (BMI; R = 0.49, P = 0.01), abdominal circumference (R = 0.45, P = 0.03), waist circumference (R = 0.47, P = 0.02), waist-to-hip ratio (R = 0.42, P = 0.04), insulin (R = 0.50, P = 0.01), homoeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance 2 (HOMA2-IR; R = 0.49, P = 0.01), basal metabolic rate (R = 0.56, P = 0.004), lean body mass (R = 0.55, P = 0.005) and body water (R = 0.55, P = 0.005). There were no significant differences of uric acid levels for smoking status, impaired fasting glucose, abdominal obesity, obesity/overweight and dyslipidemia. Uric acid levels did not correlate with age, duration of clozapine treatment, clozapine dose, leg circumference, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, total body fat, triglycerides, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), homocysteine, corrected calcium, glucose and homoeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance 1 (HOMA1-IR). Conclusions. We did not find significant differences in blood uric acid levels between subjects with schizophrenia and controls. Association with weight, BMI, abdominal and waist circumferences, insulin levels and insulin resistance may support uric acid role as an important cardiovascular risk factor. Association with lean weight may explain why men have higher levels of uric acid than women.  相似文献

ObjectivesWe examined the association between obesity and early-onset cryptogenic ischemic stroke (CIS) and whether fat distribution or sex altered this association.Materials and MethodsThis prospective, multi-center, case-control study included 345 patients, aged 18-49 years, with first-ever, acute CIS. The control group included 345 age- and sex-matched stroke-free individuals. We measured height, weight, waist circumference, and hip circumference. Obesity metrics analyzed included body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-stature ratio (WSR), and a body shape index (ABSI). Models were adjusted for age, level of education, vascular risk factors, and migraine with aura.ResultsAfter adjusting for demographics, vascular risk factors, and migraine with aura, the highest tertile of WHR was associated with CIS (OR for highest versus lowest WHR tertile 2.81, 95%CI 1.43-5.51; P=0.003). In sex-specific analyses, WHR tertiles were not associated with CIS. However, using WHO WHR cutoff values (>0.85 for women, >0.90 for men), abdominally obese women were at increased risk of CIS (OR 2.09, 95%CI 1.02-4.27; P=0.045). After adjusting for confounders, WC, BMI, WSR, or ABSI were not associated with CIS.ConclusionsAbdominal obesity measured with WHR was an independent risk factor for CIS in young adults after rigorous adjustment for concomitant risk factors.  相似文献
