This literature review examines the evolution of psychiatric nursing case management in the United States. Various models, both inpatient and outpatient, are described, along with the roles of the case manager in each setting. The development of clinical pathways to monitor and document outcomes in acute settings is examined, along with the difficulties in adapting them specifically to psychiatric nursing case management. The types of data collected and the use of outcomes to support programs for the mentally ill are reviewed. Finally, recommendations for psychiatric nursing case management are made to provide guidelines for the future. 相似文献

Nursing education in Iran has undergone significant change since its genesis with foreign missionaries over one hundred years ago. More recently, following the 1979 Islamic revolution, nurse education has followed the direction taken by most other countries in moving from an apprenticeship model of training to an academic model. A series of transformative changes to nursing education specifically-and across the higher education system generally-has resulted in nurses now being able to undertake study across all university-based programs up to and including doctoral level. Contemporary nursing students have access to full-text professional journals through the internet, and they may pursue their doctoral studies in other countries. Although these improvements in nursing education in Iran are to be applauded, much more needs to be accomplished to ensure that highly competent nurse practitioners continue to be produced in this country. This article presents an historical overview of the development of nursing education in Iran, within its economic and sociopolitical contexts. Recommendations based upon lessons learned from historical and contemporary realities are presented in order to advance nursing education in this part of world. 相似文献

Although current nursing literature is overflowing with information related to the history of nursing in general, and even pediatric nursing, very little is published about PICU nursing. The evolution of pediatric critical care nursing is presented based on a historical context, the current state, and future projections. More specifically, this treatise focuses on the environment, the patient and family, and of course, the PICU nurse. Concluding remarks provide an insight into how health care reforms and how the use of clinical information technology will affect the role of the pediatric critical care nurse in the future. 相似文献

The use of simulation in nursing education is increasing in scope and popularity. Many undergraduate nursing programs have adopted high-fidelity patient simulation as an educational tool. The effect of simulation on teaching and learning is the focus of current research. The aim of this literature review is to synthesize the research findings evaluating simulation specifically in associate degree nursing education. The results of the review identified the following themes: critical thinking, clinical skill performance, knowledge acquisition, student satisfaction, self-confidence, and anxiety. Gaps in the literature are highlighted, implications for nursing education are explored, and recommendations for further research are provided. 相似文献

The delivery of health care services is changing dramatically. Increasing longevity, shortening of hospital stays, scientific and technological advances and population mobility contribute to the growing complexity of nursing. Nursing education must keep pace with these changes, which require new knowledge, skills and attitudes. Nursing education in Spain is developing rapidly in accordance with the European Union growth and within the trend towards globalization. The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of nursing education in Spain. A brief history of modern nursing education is presented, together with its recent reforms and a view of future developments. The Nursing Diploma program, as the only academic nursing qualification, is inappropriate to respond to the present social needs. In Spain, as in other European countries, nursing education requires increasing professionalism, which could be achieved by implementing baccalaureate, master and doctoral programs within the framework of the Bologna Declaration signed in 1999 by the European Union Ministers of Education. 相似文献

The importance of the family system has, in recent years, been de-emphasized in the planning and delivery of mental health services A sample of the psychiatric nursing literature over the last 4 decades is reviewed to reveal that this is not a new phenomenon with regard to psychiatric nursing practice The shortcomings of such a de-emphasis are discussed, some exceptions to the rule are described and some suggestions for future development of family interventions by mental health nurses are made 相似文献
