Bronchopulmonary sequestration is an uncommon pulmonary disorder characterized by an area of non‐functioning abnormal lung tissue, which receives its blood supply from a systemic artery and characteristically has no connection with the tracheobronchial tree. The abnormal lung tissue is located within the visceral pleura of a pulmonary lobe in the intralobar variety, whereas the extralobar form has its own visceral pleura. The venous drainage of the extralobar type is usually into the systemic veins, whereas the intralobar type drains into the pulmonary veins. Radiological imaging plays a vital role in establishing the diagnosis, and even more importantly, in providing to the clinician a vascular roadmap essential for surgical planning. We present here a review of bronchopulmonary sequestration and also discuss the role of various imaging methods in the early diagnosis and management of these cases.  相似文献

A 10 year old Vietnamese girl presented with clinical features of an acute encephalitic process. A cerebral angiogram performed to rule out vasculitis showed narrowing at the supraclinoid internal carotid and terminal basilar arteries. A diagnosis of rabies was established at autopsy. Although the major blood vessels and basal meninges were normal it was possible that transient arterial spasm induced by the viral infection was responsible for the angiographic appearance. Other imaging findings in our patient are described with a brief review of the literature. This is only the second case of rabies reported in Australia.1,2 Rabies is a rare disease in the Australian community. Recently one patient with atypical clinical presentation was confirmed to have the disease only at autopsy. In the clinical work-up, various radiological examinations were performed and a range of interesting features were encountered including an abnormal cerebral angiogram. The purpose of this paper is to report on these unusual features and to review those documented in the literature.  相似文献

Neuroimaging plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis, management, and prognostication of brain tumors. Recently, the World Health Organization published the fifth edition of the WHO Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System (CNS5), which places greater emphasis on tumor genetics and molecular markers to complement the existing histological and immunohistochemical approaches. Recent advances in computational power allowed modern neuro-oncological imaging to move from a strictly morphology-based discipline to advanced neuroimaging techniques with quantifiable tissue characteristics such as tumor cellularity, microstructural organization, hemodynamic, functional, and metabolic features, providing more precise tumor diagnosis and management. The aim of this review is to highlight the key imaging features of the recently published CNS5, outlining the current imaging standards and summarizing the latest advances in neuro-oncological imaging techniques and their role in complementing traditional brain tumor imaging and management.  相似文献

Melioidosis is an infectious disease caused by Pseudomonas pseudomallei. It is seldom diagnosed promptly and, if untreated, can lead to an 80–100% mortality rate. Twenty-eight patients with melioidosis were identified over a 6 year period, and their imaging patterns were analysed. Respiratory infections were the commonest form of presentation, frequently shown as diffuse airspace consolidation, and accounted for the highest mortality. Visceral and musculoskeletal infections were associated with chronicity and a high relapse rate. Multifocal splenic abscesses were a common occurence. Septic arthritis of the knee was frequently seen. The majority of patients had diabetes mellitus and chronic ill-health. An increased awareness of the disease can contribute to its early detection and appropriate treatment.  相似文献

In oncology various imaging modalities play a crucial role in diagnosis, staging, restaging, treatment monitoringand follow up of various cancers. Stand-alone morphological imaging like computerized tomography (CT) andmagnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provide a high magnitude of anatomical details about the tumor but arerelatively dumb about tumor physiology. Stand-alone functional imaging like positron emission tomography(PET) and single photon emission tomography (SPECT) are rich in functional information but provide littleinsight into tumor morphology. Introduction of first hybrid modality PET/CT is the one of the most successfulstories of current century which has revolutionized patient care in oncology due to its high diagnostic accuracy.Spurred on by this success, more hybrid imaging modalities like SPECT/CT and PET/MR were introduced. Itis the time to explore the potential applications of the existing hybrid modalities, developing and implementingstandardized imaging protocols and train users in nuclear medicine and radiology. In this review we discussthree existing hybrid modalities with emphasis on their technical aspects and clinical applications in oncology.  相似文献

Those of us working in a dedicated paediatric environment are aware of the important safety issues with regard to paediatrics. Our goal when working with paediatric patients, the goal is to obtain the best quality images while keeping patients safe and their distress to a minimum. This article will discuss some of the issues regarding paediatric safety in a diagnostic imaging department, including radiation doses and the risk to paediatric patients, reducing medication errors, safe sedation practice and environmental safety. Also discussed are some conditions requiring special consideration to maintain patient safety such as epiglottitis and suspected child abuse. Promotion of a patient/family-centered care system will create an environment of trust where parents or guardians will know that their children are being well cared for in a safe, effective environment.  相似文献

Prostate cancer is the most common malignancy in men, in general. Most patients diagnosed with prostate cancer have localized disease confined to the prostate. A small percentage of patients with aggressive tumors will progress to develop local, extracapsular tumor extension and distant metastases. The aim of prostate cancer management is to identify and treat those patients with aggressive disease before they develop locally advanced or metastatic disease, and to avoid overtreating indolent tumors, which are unlikely to be life threatening. Imaging has been shown to be valuable in local staging of prostate cancer and as an aid to the management of clinically significant disease. In this article, we discuss the different established imaging modalities and emerging techniques for prostate cancer imaging in patients with clinically localized disease who may be suitable for radical treatment.  相似文献
