Conclusions 1. The effect of molecular weight of epoxide resin on all the most important properties of epoxide filling materials have been investigated experimentally. It was found that filling materials prepared with epoxide resins of high molecular weight were better in all respects. 2. An epoxide resin of high molecular weight, which was synthesized and tested, combined the advantages of both low and high molecular weight epoxide resins. 3. New hardening agents for use with epoxide filling materials were synthesized, tested and found to be little affected by moisture and to accelerate hardening. 4. The new high molecular weight epoxide resin filling material, “Epoxident,” is now undergoing extensive clinical trial. Moscow. Cytocentrifuged cell preparations have been evaluated as substrates for the demonstration by immunofluorescence of T cell surface antigens. Results obtained by a 2-stage method with fluorescent conjugate specific for the isotype of the first stage monoclonal antibody, and by a 3-stage procedure employing an intermediate antiserum to mouse IgG as amplifying agent, showed good correlation with those obtained by a standard technique performed on cells in suspension. These methods have the advantages of requiring fewer cells and less antibody and the cytocentrifuge preparations may be stored for batch assay.  相似文献

This was a study of 71 patients suspected of hyperthyroidism who had undergone a tri-iodothyronine suppression test. A study of circulating protein-bound iodine after separation on ion-exchange resins had been carried out before triiodothyronine administration, on the same patients. The results showed that the radioactive hormonal fraction has a better diagnostic value than radioactive serum protein-bound iodine. In 60% of cases, a study of the radioactive hormonal fraction could have permitted to avoid the use of the suppression test.  相似文献

Macroscopic evidence of bruising from human bite marks may be inconclusive and routine histochemical methods of showing extravasated erythrocytes can be unreliable. Leuco patent blue staining, for the presence of peroxidase, Amido black B, a tinctorial staining method for haemoglobin, Perls's reaction for ferric iron (haemosiderin), Masson-Fontana for melanin, Masson's trichrome, a connective tissue strain, and the benzidine reaction for haemoglobin peroxidase were carried out in three forensic cases and one experimental case. A modified benzidine method was the most reliable indicator of haemoglobin activity, especially where dispersion into extra-cellular tissues had occurred. The resilience of the erythrocyte peroxidase enzyme to temperature changes and fixation supports the concept of a "pseudo-peroxidase" in those cells. It is concluded that free haemoglobin from bite marks, or indeed other forms of blunt trauma, may best be shown by the benzidine reaction and that exemption certificates for use of this prohibited substance may be worth pursuing.  相似文献

Care in the preparation and preservation of reagents, together with certain modifications in apparatus and technique, have eliminated the difficulties from plasma ammonia analysis. Ammonia contamination from the laboratory atmosphere has not proved an especial hazard, and no major setback has been encountered in the analysis of several thousand specimens over the last few years. The method has been found particularly suited to the performance of the occasional estimation, since, once prepared, all reagents are stable for a considerable time.  相似文献

Computed tomography (CT) scans are usually performed in children with asthma to exclude alternative diagnoses. Technical improvements of high-resolution CT (HRCT) scans have increased the spatial resolution sufficiently for the theoretical quantification of bronchial wall thickening of the proximal airways and the assessment of small airway disease by the extent and degree of low attenuation areas, which are believed to represent air trapping. In contrast with adults, very few studies have been performed in children. The results suggest that the HRCT scan might be useful as a noninvasive technique for airway inflammation and airway remodeling. In the future, the potential use of HRCT scans for determining optimal treatment should be evaluated. However, several issues remain to be resolved, including the validity of algorithm reconstruction, the imaging parameters to be used, and the application of this technique to young children. Furthermore, because of its cost and the irradiation involved, this examination is highly unlikely to be used routinely for the management and follow-up of all children with asthma but will likely be restricted to patients with severe asthma.  相似文献

This paper describes the preparation of virus-infected cells for the detection of serum antibodies by the use of immunofluorescence techniques. The variations in virus growth in cells in relation to the length of incubation of cell monolayers and polio virus using two different fluorescein isothiocynate conjugates are discussed. It is shown that there is a critical time after virus infection when a definite positive immunofluorescent reaction is given. Furthermore, a method is described enabling the clinical pathologist to prepare infected cells with the use of an automatic tube inoculator at any time during 24 hours.  相似文献
