ObjectivesThe goals of the study were to describe the MR imaging features of endometriosis of the urinary tract and identify those that suggest intrinsic involvement of ureteric wall.Materials and methodsThirty-five women with proven urinary tract endometriosis and who had preoperative MR imaging between 2001 and 2011 were included retrospectively. MR images were intrepreted by one junior and one senior radiologists. To characterize the intrinsic parietal involvement, the ureteric circumference involved by the lesion of endometriosis was noted.ResultsThirty-eight ureteric and 13 bladder lesions were analyzed. They were found in association in nine women. Ureteric lesions were bilateral in seven women. Of the 38 ureteric lesions, 27 were extrinsic and 11 intrinsic at histopathological analysis. Sixteen women with extrinsic lesions and 10 with intrinsic ones were correctly identified on MR imaging. When the ureter was included less than 360° in the lesion, extrinsic involvement was confirmed in 80% of cases.ConclusionMR imaging appears to be more sensitive (91%vs 82%) but less specific (59% vs 67%) than surgery for the diagnosis of intrinsic form of ureteric location.  相似文献

ObjectivesTo create an adaptable and global approach for optimizing MDCT protocols by evaluating the influence of acquisition parameters and Iterative Reconstruction (IR) on dose reduction and image quality.Materials and methodsMDCT acquisitions were performed on quality image phantom by varying kVp, mAs, and pitch for the same collimation. The raw data were reconstructed by FBP and Sinogram Affirmed Iterative Reconstruction (SAFIRE) with different reconstruction kernel and thickness. A total of 4032 combinations of parameters were obtained. Indices of quality image (image noise, NCT, CNR, SNR, NPS and MTF) were analyzed. We developed a software in order to facilitate the optimization between dose reduction and image quality. Its outcomes were verified on an adult anthropomorphic phantom.ResultsDose reduction resulted in the increase of image noise and the decrease of SNR and CNR. The use of IR improved these indices for the same dose without affecting NCT and MTF. The image validation was performed by the anthropomorphic phantom. The software proposed combinations of parameters to reduce doses while keeping indices of the image quality adequate. We observed a CTDIvol reduction between −44% and −83% as compared to the French diagnostic reference levels (DRL) for different anatomical localization.ConclusionThe software developed in this study may help radiologists in selecting adequate combinations of parameters that allows to obtain an appropriate image with dose reduction.  相似文献

ObjectivePictorial review with a detailed semiological analysis of ovarian tumors in children and adolescents to provide a relevant diagnostic approach.Patients and methodsRetrospective study (2001–2011) of 41 patients under the age of 15 who underwent surgery for an ovarian mass with a definite pathological diagnosis.ResultsSixty-two percent of the lesions were benign, 33% were malignant and 5% were borderline. Germ cell tumors were most frequent (77.5%), followed by sex cord stromal tumors (12.5%) and epithelial tumors (7.5%). Malignant tumors were more frequent in children between 0 and 2 years old. On imaging, calcifications and fat were specific for germ cell tumors; the presence of a mural nodule was predictive of a mature teratoma (P < 0.001). Predictive factors for malignancy were clinical, including abdominal distension (P < 0.01) or a palpable mass (P = 0.05), biological, including increased hCG and/or AFP levels (P < 0.001) and radiological, including tumors larger than 12 cm (P < 0.05), tumoral hypervascularity (P < 0.01) and voluminous ascites (P < 0.01).ConclusionThis semiological analysis confirms the role of imaging in diagnosing the etiology of ovarian lesions in children and adolescents and emphasizes the importance identifying tumoral hypervascularity, which, in addition to classic criteria, is highly predictive of malignancy.  相似文献

IntroductionRemission is the ultimate goal of the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, the diagnosis of remission might still be vague. Musculoskeletal ultrasound (US) seems to effectively assess synovitis, effusion and bone damage. Thus, its role could be relevant for the diagnosis, monitoring or detection of relapse in the follow-up of RA in remission. The goal of this review of the literature was to clarify the added value of ultrasonography during remission.MethodsA systemic search of the literature was performed on Medline and Scopus. The following key words were used: rheumatoid arthritis, remission, US. Fifty-six papers were collected, then after an in depth analysis, twelve articles were selected for analysis.ResultsTwelve papers were identified that assessed remission in RA. Remission criteria varied from one author to another. The number of joints assessed by US varied from six to 44 with the wrist and metacarpo-phalangeal joints of the dominant hand scanned at least. Irrespective of remission criteria, all authors demonstrated that US detected Doppler positive synovitis in patients in clinical remission. Also, power Doppler synovitis predicted structural damage and future flares of RA.ConclusionUS seems to be more effective than a clinical exam. True remission in RA must be defined. Moreover, the inclusion of this technique in the new definition of remission is being validated.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo report a case of VIIIth nerve cavernous hemangioma, a very rare differential diagnosis among the various pathologies presenting as small enhancing entities into the internal auditory canal. It is one of the most challenging when imaging is not able to differentiate it from an intrameatal vestibular schwannoma. Methods and resultsWe report a cavernous hemangioma extruding from the internal auditory canal, diagnosed after a left translabyrinthine resection in a 45-year-old man complaining of profound sensorineural hearing loss, with no facial paresis or dizziness. The preoperative differential diagnosis of a vestibular schwannoma was impossible, due to the absence of calcifications that usually characterize temporal bone hemangiomas. Clinical presentation, radiological features and treatment considerations are discussed along with up-to-date review of pertinent literature.ConclusionsWhen considering an apparent small intra-auditory canal schwannoma, otoneurologists should be aware of the rare possibility of a cavernous hemangioma. Early diagnosis and surgical treatment may improve the functional outcome, possibly preserving neural integrity.  相似文献

PurposeTo compare the diagnostic performance of MDCTA versus renal angiography in the detection of > 50% renal artery stenosis in patients suspected of reno-vascular hypertension.Materials and methodsBetween January 2005 and January 2010, 92 MDCTA and renal arteriographies were retrospectively analysed. Renal angiographies were read by one interventional radiologist. Three blinded independent readers (two senior radiologists and one technician) scored MDCTA images using three different approaches. Reader 1 scored stenosis using only MPR and MIP. Reader 2 (technician) used only proprietary automatic arterial segmentation software. Reader 3 used the cited software, using manual diameter measurements.ResultsA total of 92 patients, (235 renal arteries) were assessed in which 48 significant stenosis were found by arteriography. Sensitivity, specificity, of MDCTA compared to renal arteriography were respectively per patient for reader 1: (88%; 80%); for reader 2: (58%; 80%); for reader 3: (96%; 90%) (P < .02).ConclusionWhen using automated vessel analysis software edited by a radiologist, MDCTA studies had a Sensibility/Specificity of 96%/90% to detect > 50% renal artery stenosis.  相似文献

Rationale and backgroundTransarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the most frequently used palliative therapy for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It is a safe and effective procedure with few major and minor complications. Rarely, biliary complications are also encountered following TACE. The goal of our study was to investigate the incidence and the presentation of biliary complications following TACE in patients with HCC.Material and methodsIn this retrospective study, data of patients with HCC who underwent TACE between June 2002 to December 2014 were obtained from the records. Their detailed information about the procedure of TACE, diagnosis of biliary complications and subsequent management details were reviewed.ResultOne hundred and sixty-eight patients with HCC underwent 305 procedures of TACE. Of these, biliary complications of various severities developed in 6 (3.6%) patients leading to an incidence of 1.9% (6/305). Minimal intrahepatic biliary dilatation (IHBD) occurred in three, biliary stricture in one and intrahepatic biloma in two patients. Supportive management was undertaken for IHBD patients while percutaneous aspiration and naso-biliary drainage was performed for the infected bilomas.ConclusionBiliary complications following TACE are infrequent. Diagnosis should be suspected clinically and confirmed with imaging. Treatment depends on the severity. Enforcing specific measures can minimize its frequency.  相似文献

PurposeTo describe the CT and MRI appearances of papillary renal cell carcinoma.Materials and methodsRetrospective study of 102 papillary carcinomas in 79 patients, 81 tumors examined by CT and 56 by MRI. Tumor size, homogeneity and contrast enhancement were recorded.ResultsThe most common presentation of papillary renal cell carcinoma was a small homogeneous hypovascular tumor both on CT and MRI. Eighty-nine percent of lesions were hypointense on T2 weighted images compared to the renal parenchyma. Seventeen percent of the lesions did not significantly enhance with contrast on CT. All of the lesions examined on MRI had a significant enhancement percentage. Calcifications were rare and only seen in 7% of cases (CT). The second most common presentation was a bulky necrotic tumor. In addition, atypical types of disease were found which were difficult to diagnose, including infiltrating tumors and tumors with a fatty component.ConclusionA homogeneous hypovascular renal tumor which is hypointense on T2 weighted images should suggest a diagnosis of papillary carcinoma. Some papillary carcinomas do not enhance significantly on CT. MRI is then required to diagnose the renal tumor.  相似文献

PurposeThe goal of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of a software program that automatically analyzes the liver surface to diagnose significant fibrosis, by comparing it to the subjective analysis of a radiologist and to transient elastography (Fibroscan®).Patients and methodsOne hundred fourteen patients with chronic liver disease were included in the study. They underwent liver biopsy, FibroScan® and ultrasonographic examination of the liver surface. The liver surface was analyzed by a software program that gave a score of surface irregularities. This evaluation was compared to subjective analysis by a radiologist expert in liver imaging and by two general radiologists.ResultsFifty percent of the patients had significant fibrosis according to the METAVIR score. The AUROC for the diagnosis of significant fibrosis by the software program was 0.80 (95%CI: 0.71–0.87), which was equivalent (P = 0.86) to that of FibroScan® (0.81; 95%CI: 0.71–0.89). Results of the subjective analysis by the expert radiologist were poorer than those of the software analysis (P = 0.02) (AUROC = 0.66; 95%CI: 0.56–0.75). Interobserver agreement among radiologists was poor (0.25 < kappa < 0.37).ConclusionComputer-assisted liver surface analysis was better than subjective analysis, and similar to that of the FibroScan®. This method could be useful for the diagnosis of significant fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis and complementary to the other non-invasive diagnostic tests.  相似文献

PurposeTo compare radiation dose and image quality between a slot-scanning system (SSS) and a dynamic flat-panel detector (DFD) in assessing scoliosis in children.MethodsAn experimental study was first performed with a phantom to assess the quality of each device. The clinical part included a prospective observational dosimetric and qualitative comparative study with acquisition of whole-spine X-ray: SSS (31 children), DFD (26 children). Institutional review board approval and informed consent were obtained. Dosimetric statistical analysis was performed from dose area product (DAP) and entrance skin dose measured by thermo-luminescent dosimeters localized in the cervical, thoracic and sacral areas. Assessment of the diagnostic quality (phantom and clinical) was realized by independent evaluation by 3 observers, using statistical analysis of quality score and inter-observer reproducibility.ResultsDAP was equivalent with the 2 systems. Entrance skin dose was significantly higher with DFD in thoracic and pelvic regions (P < 0.05). Image quality scores of the SSS were significantly better than DFD for a majority of criteria, in both phantom and clinical evaluations.ConclusionFor scoliosis evaluation, the SSS, compared to the DFD system, offers enhanced image quality while reducing the entrance skin dose in the most radiosensitive areas.  相似文献

AimMale breast cancer (MBC) is a rare disease and recommendations for its clinical management are often extrapolated from those for female breast cancer, even if breast cancer (BC) has different characteristics in the two sexes. The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of several individual characteristics including clinico-pathological, lifestyle and genetic factors on overall survival (OS) of a relatively large and well characterized population-based series of 166 MBCs enrolled in Tuscany.MethodsWe genotyped MBC cases at BRCA1/2 genes and at 9 candidate BC susceptibility SNPs. Kaplan-Meier method and multivariate Cox regression, adjusted for several individual characteristics were used. To reduce a possible selection bias related to the interval between diagnosis and enrolment of MBC cases into the study, we used the date of blood donation as the date of the start of observation for survival analysis.ResultsOnly smoking habits had a significant effect on OS at 10 years (for current smokers, HR: 3.34; 95% CI 1.45–7.68; p = 0.004), while lymph node status fell short of reaching statistical significance (for pN positive, HR: 2.07; 95% CI 0.93–4.55; p = 0.07). In the same multivariate analysis we found a significantly higher OS in cases with FGFR2 rs2981582 variant in the dominant transmission model (HR: 0.29; 95% CI: 0.13–0.62; p = 0.028). A sensitivity analysis with left truncation showed similar results.ConclusionsOur results may contribute to shed light on factors influencing MBC survival suggesting an important role for cigarette smoking and FGFR2 rs2981582 variant, and provide clues for better patient management.  相似文献

BackgroundThe appropriate indications for Resuscitative Thoracotomy (RT) are still debated in the literature and various guidelines have been proposed. This study aimed to evaluate whether Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) guidelines for RT were applied correctly and to evaluate the proportion of deceased patients with potentially reversible thoracic lesions (PRTL).MethodsThe database at the Department of Forensic Medicine at Copenhagen University was queried for autopsy cases with thoracic lesions indicated by the SNOMED autopsy coding system. Patients were included if thoracic lesions were caused by a traumatic event with trauma team activation. Patient cases were blinded for any surgical intervention and evaluated independently by two reviewers for indications or contraindications for RT as determined by the ATLS guidelines. Second, autopsy reports were evaluated for the presence of PRTL.ResultsSixty-seven patients met the inclusion criteria. Two were excluded due to insufficient data. The overall agreement with guidelines was 86% and 77% for blunt and penetrating trauma, respectively. For patients submitted to RT the overall agreement with guidelines was 63% being 45% and 74% for blunt and penetrating trauma, respectively. For patients who did not undergo RT the agreement with guidelines was 100%. In all cases where RT was performed in agreement between guidelines and the clinical decision the autopsy reports showed PRTL in 16 (84%) patients. In cases of non-agreement PRTL were found in 9 (82%) patients.ConclusionsAgreement with ATLS guidelines for RT was 63% for intervention and 100% for non-intervention in deceased patients with thoracic trauma. Agreement was higher for penetrating trauma than for blunt trauma. The adherence to guidelines did not improve the ability to predict autopsy findings of PRTL. Although the study has methodical limitations it represents a novel approach to the evaluation of the clinical use of RT guidelines.  相似文献

IntroductionHistorically, mucormycosis infections have been associated with high mortality. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence, associated mortality, and management strategies of mucormycosis in a major burn center.MethodsA retrospective review was performed via obtaining all patients with mucormycosis admitted from January 2003 to November 2009 at our adult burn center was performed obtaining demographic data relevant to fungal burn wound infection or colonization.ResultsThe incidence of mucormycosis at our facility was 4.9 per 1000 admissions; specifically, 11 military casualties and one civilian were diagnosed with mucormycosis. The median percentage Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) burned, 11 patients, or open wound, one patient, was 60 (IQR, 54.1–80.0), and the incidence of documented inhalation injury was 66.7% (8 of 12). Ten patients had surgical amputations. A median of eight days (IQR, 3.5–74.5) elapsed from diagnosis of mucormycosis until death in the 11 patients who expired. The overall mortality was 92%; however, autopsy attributed mucormycosis mortality was 54.5% (6 of 11) with all six patients having invasive mucormycosis.ConclusionAggressive surgical intervention should be undertaken for invasive mucormycosis; additionally, implementation of standardized protocols for patients with large soft tissue injuries may mitigate mucormycosis superimposition.  相似文献

PurposeOur study evaluated brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) changes over time after adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) in women with left-sided breast cancer investigating its correlation with heart dosimetric parameters.MethodsForty-three patients underwent clinical cardiac examination, electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiography and BNP measurement before RT (T0) and 1 (T1), 6 (T6) and 12 months (T12) after. After T12 cardiac assessment was performed annually in each patient. Mean values and standard deviation (SD) of BNP, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), V20, V25, V30, V45 and mean dose were calculated. Normalized BNP (BNPn) was calculated as follows: BNPnT1 = BNPT1/BNPT0, BNPnT6 = BNPT6/BNPT0, BNPnT12 = BNPT12/BNPT0. Absolute BNP and BNPn values were used for data analysis.ResultsMedian follow-up from the end of RT to the last check-up was 87 months (range 37–120 months). Minimum follow-up was 74 months except for two patients, who died at respectively 37 and 47 months after RT. In all patients LVEF did not change significantly (p = 0.22) after RT. BNP increased significantly (p < 0.001), particularly 1 and 6 months after RT. It slightly decreased after 12 months. BNP did not correlate with V20, V25, V30, V45, mean dose and MHD. All BNPn correlated significantly (p < 0.05) with V20, V25, V30, V45, mean dose and MHD. Four patients had a cardiac event; in the only subject who developed myocardial infarction, V20, V25, V30 and V45 were the highest and BNP increased from T1 and persisted high even at T12.ConclusionOur results confirm that BNP could be a useful minimally invasive marker of early RT related cardiac impairment.  相似文献

BackgroundPsychological variables, including catastrophic thoughts and kinesiophobia, are common in people with chronic musculoskeletal pain and are associated with pain and function. However, the role of each factor has not been evaluated in people with plantar heel pain (plantar fasciitis).MethodsThirty-six participants diagnosed with plantar heel pain were recruited. Main outcome measures included the Pain Catastrophising Scale, Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia, the Foot Health Status Questionnaire and a Visual Analogue Scale. Hierarchical regression models were developed to evaluate the association between each psychological variable with variations in foot pain, first step pain and foot function.ResultsIn a full model with age, sex and BMI, kinesiophobia contributed to 21% of the variability in foot function and was a significant predictor in this model (Beta = −0.49, P = 0.006). In a separate model, catastrophising explained 39% of the variability in foot function and was a significant predictor in this model (Beta = −0.65, P < 0.001). Finally, pain catastrophising accounted for 18% of the variability in first step pain and was a significant predictor in a model that also included age, sex and BMI (Beta = 0.44, P = 0.008).ConclusionsAfter controlling for age, sex and BMI, kinesiophobia and catastrophising were significantly associated with foot function, while catastrophising was associated with first step pain in people with plantar heel pain. In addition to addressing biological factors in the management of plantar heel pain, clinicians should consider the potential role of pain catastrophising and kinesiophobia in this population.  相似文献

ObjectiveO-arm® now gives us the opportunity not only to perform 2D but also 3D scans during deep brain stimulation (DBS) procedures. We present our experience with the intraoperative use of this device. Our objective was to measure the geometrical accuracy of electrode placement during surgical procedures driven under O-arm® control.MethodsFifteen patients underwent STN-DBS. For the first 4 patients, 3D scans were performed at the end of the procedure. We calculated the accuracy of electrode positioning, i.e. the distance between final electrode positioning and the planned trajectory. For the next 11 patients, who underwent both intraoperative and final 3D scan, we also calculated the accuracy of the microelectrode positioning.ResultsAverage stimulation-induced improvement of UPDRS-III score was 52.5 ± 15%. For the first 4 patients, the mean electrode positioning accuracy was 1.46 ± 0.56 mm. For the 11 patients who underwent intraoperative 3D scan, the mean microelectrodes positioning accuracy was 1.59 ± 1.1 mm. Aberrant positioning was detected in two cases, and was analyzed by fusing 3D scan with preoperative MR images. The definite electrodes positioning accuracy was 1.05 ± 0.54 mm.ConclusionIntraoperative 3D scan is feasible, and can help us detect and correct early aberrant trajectories.  相似文献

ObjectivePrevious studies reported that anti-CCP antibody positivity predicts good response to rituximab (RTX) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A quantitative approach to such possibility could be a good way to detect the subset of patients most likely to respond. We investigated whether serum anti-CCP antibody titres could predict response to RTX in RA patients.MethodsWe retrospectively investigated RA patients who received RTX. The primary criterion was decrease in DAS28 > 1.2 at 6 months (M6). Secondary efficacy criteria included a good response and remission according to EULAR. Predictors of response were investigated by multivariate logistic regression analysis.ResultsWe included 114 RA patients (81.6% female, median age 53.5 [IQR 45.7–61.2] years, median disease duration 8.5 [4.0–16.0] years). Anti-CCP antibodies were present in 93 patients (81.6%), with median anti-CCP antibody titres 583 [195–1509] U/mL. In all, 44 patients (38.6%) showed decreased DAS28 > 1.2 at M6. On univariate analysis, high anti-CCP titres were associated with response rather than non-response to RTX (median 1122 [355–1755] vs. 386 [149–800] U/mL, P = 0.0191) at M6. On multivariate regression analysis, with a cut-off of 1000 U/mL, anti-CCP antibody titres  1000 was associated with a decrease in DAS28 > 1.2 (OR 5.10 [1.97–13.2], P = 0.0002); a EULAR good response (4.26 [1.52–11.95], P = 0.0059); and a trend for EULAR remission (2.52 [0.78–8.12], P = 0.1207).ConclusionHigh anti-CCP antibody titres predict response to RTX in RA. This factor, easily assessed in clinical practice, can help with personalized medicine and selecting the best candidates for RTX treatment.  相似文献

ObjectivesPerforation of the chest (open pneumothorax) with and without lung injury can cause air accumulation in the chest, positive intrapleural pressure and lead to tension pneumothorax if untreated. The performance of chest seals to prevent tension physiology depends partially on their ability to adhere to the skin and seal the chest wound. Novel non-occlusive vented chest seals were assessed for their adhesiveness on skin of live swine under normal and extreme environmental conditions to simulate austere battlefield conditions.MethodsChest seals were applied on the back of the swine on skin that was soiled by various environmental contaminants to represent battlefield situations. A peeling (horizontal rim peeling) and detachment and breaching (vertical pulling) techniques were used to quantify the adhesive performance of vented chest seals. Among eight initially selected vented seals, five (Bolin, Russell, Fast breathe, Hyfin and SAM) were further down-selected based on their superior adherence scores at ambient temperatures. The adherence of these seals was then assessed after approximately 17 h storage at extreme cold (−19.5 °C) and hot (71.5 °C) temperatures.ResultsAdherence scores for peeling (above 90%) and detachment scores (less than 25%) were comparable for four vented chest seals when tested at ambient temperature, except for the Bolin seal which had higher breaching. Under extreme storage temperatures, adherence peeling scores were comparable to those at ambient temperatures for four chest seals. Scores were significantly lower for the Bolin seal at extreme temperatures. This seal also had the highest detachment and breaching scores. In contrast, the Russell, Fast breathe, Hyfin and SAM seals showed similar ability to stay air tight without breaching after hot storage.ConclusionNo significant difference was found in skin adherence of the five vented chest seals at ambient temperature and the four seals (Russell, Fast breathe, Hyfin and SAM) maintained superior adherence even after exposure to extreme temperatures compared to the Bolin. To select the most effective product from the 5 selected vented chest seals, further functional evaluation of the valve of these chest seals on a chest wound with the potential for tension in the pneumothorax or hemopneumothorax is warranted.  相似文献

PurposeTo assess the evolution of acute portal vein thrombosis by computed tomography (CT).Patients and methodsRetrospective single-centre study (2005–2011) including 23 patients who had an initial CT scan and a CT scan during the first year. The analysis compared the last CT scan available with that of the initial CT scan. Neoplastic thrombosis, extrinsic compressions and cavernomas were excluded. All patients received anticoagulant treatment.ResultsThe causes included: cirrhoses (n = 6), blood disorders (n = 4), locoregional inflammations and infections (n = 8), abdominal surgery (n = 1). The thrombosis was idiopathic in 4 cases. After a mean follow-up of 7.7 months, 7 patients (30%) benefited from a restitutio ad integrum of the portal system, a stable or partially regressive thrombosis was noted in 12 patients (52%) and an aggravation of the thrombosis was noted in 4 patients (18%). In the sub-group of portal vein thrombosis, repermeabilisation was noted in 37.5% of the patients (6/16) and 6 cavernomas developed.ConclusionCT monitoring helps follow the evolution of an acute portal vein thrombosis and demonstrates complete repermeabilisation of the portal vein in 30% of the patients.  相似文献

PurposeWe report the results of combining cardiac and hepatic MRI in the same examination to monitor 48 multi-transfused patients presenting iron overload secondary to their transfusions. This cardiac MRI technique uses acquisition sequences and calculation software that are readily available for 1.5 T systems, and it has been validated to screen for patients at risk of cardiac complications who present myocardial iron overload (T2* < 20 milliseconds).Patients and methodsA total of 176 combined MRI examinations were performed between May 2006 and January 2012 in 48 patients who had received transfusions due to thalassaemia. This monocentric retrospective study brings together all of the imaging examinations carried out.ResultsThere was a positive correlation between the cardiac T2* values and left ventricular ejection fraction, which were measured in the same examination. At the first assessment 23/48 patients had a T2* < 20 ms. These patients showed a significant improvement in cardiac T2* over time while their iron chelation therapy was being intensified.ConclusionThis study validates the application of the cardiac MRI technique used to monitor cardiac iron overload in patients who have undergone multiple transfusions.  相似文献
