PURPOSE: To examine the reliability and validity of the Eating Habits Questionnaire (EHQ) for adolescents and assess eating habits in the context of the Food Pyramid. METHODS: Subjects were 446 students (81.2% female) attending three middle schools (sixth to eighth grades). Over half (56.9%) were African-American. Reliability was assessed with 48-h and 2-week retests on two subsamples (n = 62) and validity was assessed by comparison with three 24-h recalls on an additional subsample (n = 24) and by factor analysis. The EHQ is a self-administered questionnaire consisting of 83 food items and questions assessing food habits and food preparation style. RESULTS: Internal validity, determined with factor analysis, found that 10 factors explained 81.3% of the variance in eating habits. Overall perfect agreement between food groups reported on the 24-h recall and on the EHQ was 56%. Internal consistency, assessed by Cronbach alpha, ranged from .60 to .89. Test-retest correlations were highest at 48 h, ranging from .46 to .85 for the 10 factors. Adolescents ate more servings of fats and sugars (11.2) and meats (6.0) and fewer breads (5.2) and vegetables (1.6) than recommended in Food Pyramid guidelines. In addition, subjects consumed more high-fat protein than low-fat protein servings.Conclusions: The EHQ is a valid and reliable food frequency questionnaire that has been tested with African-American and white adolescents in the Southeast. It showed that adolescents consume higher than recommended daily servings of fats, sweets, and meats and lower than recommended servings of vegetables and breads.  相似文献

To assess the reproducibility of a validated 76-item food frequency questionnaire designed to estimate diet in adolescents (Adolescent Food Frequency Questionnaire--AFFQ) in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, a test-retest study was conducted (n = 49). Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), weighted kappa, and percentage of agreement were used in both crude and energy-adjusted nutrient intakes. Bland Altman plots were used to examine the limits of agreement for energy and macronutrients. The ICC ranged from 0.48 (carbohydrates) to 0.65 (vitamin C) in crude values and from 0.25 (total fat) to 0.58 (vitamin C) in adjusted values. Kappa values ranged from 0.28 (protein and fiber) to 0.56 (unsaturated fat). Bland Altman showed a trend towards larger difference in energy according to increased intake values and a bias towards extreme values for fat intake. The percent of individuals classified in the same category on the two occasions was on average 54.2%. By conclusion, the Adolescent Food Frequency Questionnaire showed reasonable reproducibility and can be used in studies that aim to classify groups into intake categories.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the psychometric properties of an adolescent version of the Questionnaire of Eating and Weight Patterns (QEWP-A). METHOD: Male and female adolescents between 10-18 years completed the QEWP-A and measures of depression and eating attitudes. Height and weight were also measured. Parents completed a parental version (QEWP-P) that was referenced to their children. Adolescent and parent responses to the QEWP were independently categorized into no diagnosis (ND), nonclinical binge eating (NCB), and binge eating disorder (BED) groups. RESULTS: Adolescent and parental agreement over the diagnostic categories was as follows: 81.6% for ND, 15.5% for NCB, and 25% for BED with an overall kappa of. 19. Adolescents with BED had significantly higher levels of depression than the other two groups with NCB being higher than ND. For eating attitudes, BED adolescents were more deviant than the other two groups who did not differ from one another. DISCUSSION: The QEWP-A displayed adequate concurrent validity. The low overall agreement between adolescents and their parents was influenced by high and low base rates in the NCB and BED categories, respectively. This lack of agreement is consistent with other behavioral problems such as depression. The data suggest that parental perceptions of eating problems approximate those of their children when no problem is present. However, parents are not as likely to be aware of eating difficulties when they actually exist.  相似文献

目的了解南宁市高血压患者膳食习惯,为进一步开展膳食指导干预提供科学依据。方法采取分层多级随机抽样方法,随机抽取参加基本公共卫生项目慢性病管理项目满1年的高血压患者700名,利用食物频率询问法调查个体主要食物摄入频率和摄入量。其结果与中国膳食宝塔推荐量进行比较分析。结果回收有效问卷699份,有效应答率99.9%。高血压患者每天摄入全谷类和新鲜蔬菜类频率高,分别为99.6%和96.1%,但每天摄入新鲜水果、蛋类、奶制品及豆制品类食物的频率相对较低,分别为50.8%、16.0%、28.6%和4.1%。从不吃奶制品的比例高达56.5%。粮谷类食物、新鲜蔬菜类人均摄入量分别为328.4、300.9g/d,在宝塔建议范围内。畜、禽肉类人均摄入量为100.8g/d,是宝塔建议量高值(75g/d)的1.34倍。水产品新鲜水果、蛋、奶及豆制品每日摄入量的P50(P25,P75)分别为11.43(3.33,25.71)、50(14.29,128.57)、11.4(1.67,28.57)、0(0,114.29)和5.7(0,16.67)。生理检查指标发现,55.1%的高血压患者属于中心型肥胖,40.9%的患者超重或肥胖,仅有56.4%的患者血压控制达标。结论高血压患者存在"低奶高红肉"不合理的膳食结构,血压及肥胖指标控制不理想,应开展实施DASH膳食模式干预,以提高患者血压控制水平和生活质量。  相似文献

Background  

Dietary intake during childhood and adolescence is of increasing interest due to its influence on adult health, particularly obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. There is a need to develop and validate dietary assessment methods suitable for large epidemiologic studies of children and adolescents. Limited large scale dietary studies of youth have been undertaken in Australia, due partly to the lack of a suitable dietary intake tool. A self-administered, semi-quantitative food-frequency questionnaire (FFQ), the 'Australian Child and Adolescent Eating Survey' (ACAES), was developed for youth aged 9-16 years. This study evaluated reproducibility and comparative validity of the ACAES FFQ using assisted food records (FRs) as the reference method.  相似文献

We developed a simple food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) based on one-day dietary records (DRs) among 1001 subjects in Nagoya, Japan. A total of 97 foods and dishes were selected through a two-step procedure; first by ranking food items according to the contribution to the population intake of nutrient variables, and second by stepwise multiple regression analyses of individual food items as the independent variables and of total nutrient intake as the dependent variables. For simplicity, questions on portion sizes were not included except for a few selected food items, which resulted in short time (about 20 minutes) to complete the questionnaire. This FFQ was validated for food groups by referring to four 4-day DRs among 88 men and women in central Japan, from 1996 to 1997. The energy-, sex- and age-adjusted test-retest correlation coefficients between the two FFQs administered at an one year interval ranged from 0.34 to 0.78. The de-attenuated, energy-, sex- and age-adjusted correlation coefficients between the second FFQ and the DRs were larger than 0.40 for most food groups, indicating the usefulness of this simple FFQ with its sufficient validity in epidemiological surveys.  相似文献

There is considerable interest in the potentially protective effects of high fish consumption on many chronic diseases. Many epidemiological studies use food frequency questionnaires (FFQ) to quantify usual dietary fish intake, so it is important to validate this assessment against objective markers. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between plasma percentage fatty acids and dietary fish intake as assessed by a FFQ. A semiquantitative FFQ was completed by 174 adults from the community (aged 26-49 years) who also had venous blood analysed for plasma percentage fatty acids. Following linear regression modelling, total non-fried fish intake was a significant predictor of n-3 (regression coefficient, B = 0.94; 95% CI = 0.60-1.28), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; B = 0.73; 95% CI = 0.47-0.99) and the ratio of n-6: n-3 fatty acids (B = -1.0; 95% CI = - 1.35- -0.65). Steamed, grilled or baked fish was a small but significant predictor of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) levels (B = 0.13; 95% CI = 0.05-0.21) while total fish intake was a predictor of n-6 fatty acids (B = -0.88; 95% CI = -1.41- -0.36). This semiquantitative FFQ could be useful for ranking subjects according to their likely plasma n-3, DHA, and n-6 fatty acid intake and the ratio of n-6: n-3 fatty acids, when the available resources may simply not permit biological markers to be used.  相似文献

目的 对研制的北京市儿童青少年食物频率问卷的信度和效度进行评价,为儿童青少年营养状况评估和健康干预以及饮食习惯与慢性疾病关联性的研究提供一个简便、可信的研究工具。方法 对北京市130名10~17岁儿童青少年进行4次24 h饮食回顾调查和2次食物频率问卷调查,24- h饮食回顾作为“标准”方法与食物频率问卷比较来评价其效度, 2次间隔6个月的食物频率问卷调查结果相比较来评价其信度。结果 两次食物频率问卷调查结果间能量及营养素摄入量估计差异较小,除蛋白质、磷和锌的摄入量第二次低于第一次外(P<0.05),其他营养素摄入量间差异无统计学意义(P>0.05)。两次食物频率问卷调查结果间所有能量及营养素摄入量均呈正相关(P<0.01),Pearson相关系数从0.315(钙)至0.521(锌),平均为0.431,女性高于男性(0.49 vs 0.32)。食物频率问卷调查的能量及营养素摄入量均高于24 h饮食回顾(P<0.01),食物频率问卷高估明显。调整总能量摄入和个体内变异等影响后,食物频率问卷与24 h饮食回顾调查结果的能量和所有营养素摄入量均呈正相关(P<0.05),Pearson相关系数从0.27(维生素A)至0.53(锌),平均0.38。四分位分组显示:研究对象被良好区分(相同组或相邻组),比例从66.2%(维生素E、钙)至79.2%(铁),平均73.0%,研究对象被严重错分(相隔2组),比例平均为6.2%。结论 此食物频率问卷有较好的信度和效度,可作为今后儿童青少年膳食营养摄入状况调查和评价的适用工具。  相似文献

The sample of the study consisted of 250 pupils (15.3 +/- 0.7 years), who completed the Youth Adolescent Food Frequency Questionnaire enriched with 22 Greek foods and recipes to include ethnic and racial diversity. A 3-day weighed food recall was used as the criterion to test the validity of the questionnaire. The analysis of correlation revealed significant correlations between the two methods for almost all variables. The Pearson's coefficients ranged from 0.83 for energy intake to 0.34 for folate intake. Non-significant correlations were found for selenium and vitamin D intakes. The findings of the study provide evidence for the validity of the scale and its utility in assessing nutritional intake of Greek adolescents.  相似文献

Fifty-five students and staff at Robert Gordon's Institute of Technology completed a food frequency questionnaire and then weighed their food for one week. Several methods of calculating nutrient intakes from the questionnaire are compared to results from the weighed inventory. Intakes of energy and several nutrients calculated using estimated typical portion weights were less than those derived from the weighed inventory. Food groups contributing to the apparent under-estimation have been identified. A further method of calculation involved derivation of a factor for each food group such that the frequency estimated from the questionnaire multiplied by the factor equalled the average weight of the foods in that group that had been eaten. Using these factors instead of the typical portion weights resulted in closer agreement to the weighed inventory method, but the difference ranged from positive for some groups to negative for others. Use of separate factors for each group of subjects reduced the range of differences to the weighed inventory method.  相似文献

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the relative validity of maternal dietary patterns derived from a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). A total of 162 pregnant women aged 19–40-years-old were enrolled from the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Birth Cohort Study in year 2010 and 2011. The FFQ was compared with three 24-h dietary recalls (DRs). Two major dietary patterns were derived from the principle component analysis which are labeled as Healthy and Less-Healthy patterns. The Pearson correlation coefficients between FFQ and DRs for Healthy and Less-Healthy patterns were 0.59 and 0.63, respectively. At least 45% of the participants were correctly classified into the same third from the FFQ and DR for both dietary patterns. The weighted kappa showed moderate agreement for Healthy pattern while good agreement for Less-Healthy pattern between these two dietary assessment methods. Our results indicate reasonable validity of the dietary patterns identified from the FFQ in pregnant women.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To develop a dietary questionnaire on food habits, eating behaviour and nutrition knowledge of adolescents and to examine its reliability. DESIGN: A cross-sectional baseline survey. The questionnaire was self-administered to study participants twice with 7 days between each administration. SETTING: A school community in Pavia, Italy. SUBJECTS: A group of students (n=72, aged 14-17 y, both sexes) studying in a secondary school in the second year of the course were invited to compile a dietary questionnaire during school time. Informed written consent was obtained from each subject and their parents. Subjects were initially recruited for a nutrition intervention; recruitment was opportunistic and school based. STATISTICAL ANALYSES: Reliability was assessed using the Cronbach's alpha and the Pearson correlation coefficients. RESULTS: Cronbach's alpha ranges from a minimum of 0.55 to a maximum of 0.75, indicating that only two sections have a poor internal consistency. The Pearson correlation coefficients range from a minimum of 0.78 to a maximum of 0.88, indicating a very good temporal stability of the questionnaire. All the Pearson correlation coefficients are statistically significant with P<0.01. CONCLUSIONS: The present questionnaire has the potential to measure the effects of nutrition interventions on adolescents because of its stability in making comparisons over time. The instruments is low in cost and easy to administer and analyse; moreover, it could be modified appropriately to fit the needs of other populations as well.  相似文献

This study describes the development and reproducibility of a 128-item quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) to measure usual food consumption for women in southeast China. The FFQ was pre-tested using 51 Chinese women who recently migrated to Australia. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.81 for internal consistency. The reliability of the FFQ was then assessed by another test-retest study. A sample of 41 women residing in southeast China was interviewed twice within 12 weeks. Intraclass correlation coefficients were moderate to high for mean food group consumption (0.43-0.96) and mean daily nutrient intakes (0.47-0.89). Kappa statistics for eating habits ranged from 0.27 to 0.89 in the test-retest. The mean ratio of energy intake to basal metabolic rate was 1.73 (S.D. 0.39) in both test and retest samples. The study confirmed that the FFQ method using standard containers is appropriate to assess dietary intake for women in southeast China.  相似文献

A self-administered 97-item simple food frequency questionnaire (FFQ), without portion size questions for most items, was completed twice at an one-year interval by 88 men and women in central Japan to evaluate its reproducibility. This FFQ was further validated by referring to four 4-day weighed dietary records (DRs) which were performed at 3-month intervals. Mean energy and 18 nutrient intakes measured by the first and the second FFQs were quite similar to those measured by the DRs. In our reproducibility study, Pearson and intraclass correlation coefficients, adjusted for energy intake, sex and age, ranged from 0.48 to 0.82 (median = 0.67). In the validation study, adjusted and de-attenuated correlation coefficients between the second FFQ and the DRs ranged from 0.42 for iron to 0.83 for calcium (median = 0.61). The proportion of subjects classified by the FFQ into the same or adjacent quintiles defined by the DRs was between 65.9% and 83.0% (median = 69.9%). These findings essentially suggested that our FFQ is well reproducible and sufficiently valid, and therefore, reasonably useful for nutritional epidemiological studies for Japanese diets, particularly for those of Tokai Area.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the usefulness of the self-administered modified Willett food frequency questionnaire (mWFFQ) relative to duplicate 24-hour recall interviews as a dietary assessment tool during pregnancy. Fifty healthy pregnant women living in the upper Midwest were recruited for the study. At gestational weeks 16 and 21 (second trimester) and 30 and 35 (third trimester) the women were interviewed at home; they provided oral responses concerning their food and beverage consumption during the previous 24 hours. At weeks 21 and 35, immediately following the interviews, the women were asked to complete an optically scannable food frequency questionnaire, modified to evaluate daily food consumption during a 2-month time period (mWFFQ). Kilocalories and seven nutrients were computed from all dietary data, based on USDA Handbooks 8 and 456. Regression analyses were performed between nutrient intake from the 24-hour recall averages and the nutrient data generated by the mWFFQ, with the timesters serving as independent time periods. According to our preset criterion, correlation coefficients indicated that the assessment tools were comparable during the third but not the second trimester. During both trials, the mWFFQ provided consistently higher kilocalorie and nutrient values than did the 24-hour recall with the exception of fat intake. Based on our findings we conclude that the mWFFQ is a useful tool for assessing nutrient intake of groups of pregnant women, but that familiarity with the characteristics of the participants and the instrument may be important to data interpretation.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To validate a detailed semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire designed to measure habitual fish and seafood consumption. DESIGN: Cross-sectional validation study using an independent biomarker of fish consumption. SETTING: Perth metropolitan area, Western Australia. SUBJECTS: Ninety-one healthy volunteers of both sexes aged 21-75 years. METHODS: Participants completed the questionnaire and provided a fasting blood sample for erythrocyte membrane omega-3 fatty acid (eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)) analysis. The questionnaire was then validated by linear regression analysis of EPA and DHA levels on categories of fish and seafood and overall consumption, adjusted for age, sex, smoking status, body mass index (BMI) and alcohol intake. RESULTS: Regression coefficients were statistically significant for most fish and seafood items with both EPA and DHA. The strongest association was observed between oily fish and EPA, whereas no significant association was observed between lean fish and omega-3 fatty acids. Variation in omega-3 fatty acids was best accounted for by a model containing variables representing different categories of fish and seafood consumption (R (2) 0.484), rather than a single variable representing overall fish and seafood consumption (R (2) 0.313). CONCLUSIONS: This study confirms that the varying content of omega-3 fatty acids in foods are reflected in omega-3 biomarkers, and that the questionnaire is a valid measure of fish consumption that enables differentiation between cooking and processing methods and oily versus lean fish intake.  相似文献
