This paper summarises the findings of an investigation into the durability of cold spray repairs, also known as supersonic particle deposition or SPD repairs, to simulated corrosion damage in AA7075-T7351 aluminium alloy specimens. A feature of this paper is that it is the first to show how to perform the mandatory durability analysis of repaired corroded structures, where the corroded material is first removed by machining and then repaired using cold spray, in a fashion consistent with the requirements delineated in USAF Structures Bulletin EZ-19-01, MIL-STD-1530D, and the US Joint Services Structural Guidelines JSSG2006.  相似文献

Bonded patches are widely used in several industry sectors for repairing damaged plates, cracks in metallic structures, and reinforcement of damaged structures. Composite patches have optimal properties such as high strength-to-weight ratio, easiness in being applied, and high flexibility. Due to recent rapid growth in the aerospace industry, analyses of adhesively bonded patches applicable to repairing cracked structures have become of great significance. In the present study, the fatigue behavior of the aluminum alloy, repaired by a double-sided glass/epoxy composite patch, is studied numerically. More specifically, the effect of applying a double-sided composite patch on the fatigue life improvement of a damaged aluminum 6061-T6 is analyzed. 3D finite element numerical modeling is performed to analyze the fatigue performance of both repaired and unrepaired aluminum plates using the Abaqus package. To determine the fatigue life of the aluminum 6061-T6 plate, first, the hysteresis loop is determined, and afterward, the plastic strain amplitude is calculated. Finally, by using the Coffin-Manson equation, fatigue life is predicted and validated against the available experimental data from the literature. Results reveal that composite patches increase the fatigue life of cracked structures significantly, ranging from 55% to 100% for different applied stresses.  相似文献

The influences of non-isothermal aging (the temperature range is 150–180 °C, and the heating rate is 5 and 20 °C/h alternately), single-peak aging (aging at 120 °C for 24 h, then water quenched was followed at room temperature), and two-stage aging (aging at 105 °C for 8 h first, then increasing aging temperature to 135 °C and keeping for 12 h, followed by water quenching at room temperature) on the corrosion resistance and microstructure of the 7N01 aluminum alloy under 3.5 wt.% NaCl were investigated using electric polarization curve test and exfoliation corrosion. After aging, the hardness of samples was measured by a Vickers micro-hardness tester, and the electrical conductivities were obtained using the eddy current method. The results show that the steady phase η and metastable phase η′ are precipitated in the grain boundary of 7N01 aluminum alloy after non-isothermal aging, and their distribution is discontinuous. The hardness of the alloy can reach 136.9 HV1 and the electrical conductivity can reach 35.8% IACS, which is close to the hardness of single-peak aging and the conductivity of two-stage aging, respectively. Compared with single-peak aging, the corrosion current density of non-isothermal aging is reduced by 15.5%, and that of two-stage aging is reduced by 28.9%.  相似文献

7N01-T4 aluminum alloy plates were welded by the metal inert gas (MIG) welding method, with ER5087 and ER5356 welding wires, respectively. The electrochemical corrosion behavior of the weld zones in the two kinds of welded joints using 3.5 wt.% and 5 wt.% NaCl solutions were investigated by polarization curve, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and laser confocal scanning microscope (LCSM). The results indicated the better corrosion resistance of the weld zone in the ER5356 welded joint than that in the ER5087 welded joint, which was related to the different contents of Mn and Zn elements and the distribution of precipitates for the weld zones in the two kinds of welded joints. Based on the LSCM of the weld zones, the maximum depth (dmax) of corrosion pits for the weld zone in the ER5356 welded joint was lower than that in the ER5087 welded joint when immersed in the same NaCl concentrations. The dmax of the corrosion pit of the weld zone in the ER5356 welded joint using the 5 wt.% NaCl solution was 78.5 ± 0.96 μm, which was much bigger than that using the 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. For the weld zone in the ER5087 welded joint with 5 wt.% NaCl solution, more Cl- was adsorbed onto the active surface of weld zones, which accelerated the corrosion, resulting in the corrosion mechanism from pitting to intergranular corrosion.  相似文献

A gradient transition zone was obtained using electron beam deposition from AA4047 wire on AA7075 substrate and characterized for microstructures, tensile strength and corrosion resistance. The microstructure of the transition zone was composed of aluminum alloy grains, Al/Si eutectics and Fe-rich and Si-rich particles. Such a microstructure provided strength comparable to that of AA7075-T42 substrate but more intense corrosion due to the higher amount of anodic Mg2Si particles. The as-deposited AA4047 zone formed above the transition zone was composed of aluminum alloy dendrites and interdendritic Al/Si eutectics with low mechanical strength and high corrosion potential.  相似文献

The influence of cooling conditions and surface topography after finish turning of Ti6Al4V titanium alloy on corrosion resistance and surface bioactivity was analyzed. The samples were machined under dry and minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) conditions to obtain different surface roughness. The surface topographies of the processed samples were assessed and measured using an optical profilometer. The produced samples were subjected to electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and corrosion potential tests (Ecorr) in the presence of simulated body fluid (SBF). The surface bioactivity of the samples was assessed on the basis of images from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis. The inspection of the surfaces of samples after turning under dry and MQL conditions revealed unevenly distributed precipitation of hydroxyapatite compounds (Ca/P) with a molar ratio in the range of 1.73–1.97. Regardless of the cutting conditions and surface roughness, the highest values of Ecorr ~0 mV were recorded on day 7 of immersion in the SBF solution. The impedance characteristics showed that, compared to the MQL conditions, surfaces machined under dry conditions were characterized by greater resistance and the presence of a passive layer on the processed surface. The main novelty of the paper is the study of the effect of ecological machining conditions, namely, dry and MQL cutting on the corrosion resistance and surface bioactivity of Ti6Al4V titanium alloy after finish turning. The obtained research results have practical significance. They can be used by engineers during the development of technological processes for medical devices made of Ti6Al4V alloy to obtain favorable functional properties of these devices.  相似文献

Long-term stability in contact with water of organosilane layers formed by octadecyltrimethoxysilane (ODTMS) on polished aluminum alloy (AA2024) through dip-coating was studied by combining SEM, water contact angle measurements, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Similar organosilane layers were formed on AA2024 coated with permanganate conversion coating, 1,2-bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane (BTSE) and hydrated SiOx as under-layers, after which their long-term durability was also tested. During immersion in water for about one month, all the samples exhibited a decrease in hydrophobicity, implying the prepared organosilane layer was not stable over time, gradually hydrolyzing and letting water interact with the underlying layer. In parallel, SEM images of one-layer samples taken after immersion showed clear signs of local electrochemical corrosion, while XPS analysis confirmed a loss of silicon from the surface layer. The highest stability over time was demonstrated by a one-layer sample prepared in an ethanol/water bath for 5 min and by a similar ODTMS layer prepared on hydrated MnOx as an under-layer.  相似文献

The AA6061-T6 aluminum alloy samples including annealed Fe78Si9B13 particles were prepared by friction stir processing (FSP) and investigated by various techniques. The Fe78Si9B13-reinforced particles are uniformly dispersed in the aluminum alloy matrix. The XRD results indicated that the lattice parameter of α-Al increases and the preferred orientation factors F of (200) plane of α-Al reduces after friction stir processing. The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) for FSP samples increases at first with the temperature but then decreases as the temperature further increased, which can be explained by the dissolving of Mg and Si from β phase and Fe78Si9B13 particles. The corrosion and wear resistance of FSP samples have been improved compared with that of base metal, which can be attributed to the reduction of grain size and the CTE mismatch between the base metal and reinforced particles by FSP, and the lubrication effect of Fe78Si9B13 particles also plays a role in improving wear resistance. In particular, the FSP sample with reinforced particles in amorphous state exhibited superior corrosion and wear resistance due to the unique metastable structure.  相似文献

Background: Investigating the general corrosion resistance of Ti(C,N) type coatings on a prosthetic nickel alloy in the aspect of their use as protective coatings on prosthetic and orthodontic elements. Methods: Five groups of Ni-Cr alloy samples covered with Ti(C,N) type coatings differing in their carbon and nitrogen contents were used for the tests. The reference group included alloy samples without coatings. The samples were held for 105 days (2520 h) in salt spray chambers and examined by means of the NSS (neutral salt spray) and SWAAT (sea water acetic acid test) tests. After the periods of 14, 28, 81 and 105 days, the samples were removed and weighed, and their weight losses were determined. Results: In the case of each type of Ti(C,N) coating, the mass loss was lower than the mass loss of a sample without a coating, which makes it possible to state that coatings improve the corrosion resistance. No significant differences in the resistance were observed between the particular coatings. The corrosion rate of the examined coatings is close to parabolic. Conclusions: Ti(C,N) type coatings improve the resistance of a prosthetic Ni-Cr alloy and can be used as protective coatings for prosthetic and orthodontic elements.  相似文献

Aluminum alloy is widely used in aerospace structures. However, it often suffers from a harsh corrosion environment, resulting in different damage such as pitting corrosion, which leads to a reduction in the service life of aerospace structures. In the present study, the pitting corrosion with a radius of 1 mm and a depth of 0.6 mm was manufactured using hydrofluoric (HF) acid on a 2024-T3 aluminum alloy plate (400 mm × 400 mm × 2 mm) to simulate the corrosion state of equipment. A signal acquisition system with a square sensor network of 12 piezoelectric transducers (PZTs) was established. The sensor path weighting reconstruction algorithm for the probabilistic inspection of defects (SPW-RAPID) is proposed based on corrosion damage characteristic parameters including signal correlation coefficient (SDC), root mean squared error (RMSE), and signal energy damage index (E1) to explore the monitoring efficacy of pitting corrosion. The sensor path weight w, which is the product of value coefficient a and impact factor l, is established to modify the corrosion damage characteristic parameters. The results indicate that the SPW-RAPID algorithm can improve the accuracy and clarity of image reconstruction results based on SDC, RMSE and E1, which can locate the pitting corrosion with a radius of 1 mm and a depth of 0.6 mm, and the positioning error is controlled within 0.1 mm. The research work may provide an available way to monitor tiny corrosion damage on an aluminum alloy structure.  相似文献

This work mainly focuses on increasing the mechanical strength and improving the corrosion resistance of an aluminum alloy hybrid matrix. The composites are prepared by the stir casting procedure. For this work, aluminum alloy 8079 is considered as a base material and titanium nitride and zirconium dioxide are utilized as reinforcement particles. Mechanical tests, such as the ultimate tensile strength, wear, salt spray corrosion test and microhardness test, are conducted effectively in the fabricated AA8079/TiN + ZrO2 composites. L9 OA statistical analysis is executed to optimize the process parameters of the mechanical and corrosion tests. ANOVA analysis defines the contribution and influence of each parameter. In the tensile and wear test, parameters are chosen as % of reinforcement (3%, 6% and 9%), stirring speed (500, 550 and 600 rpm) and stirring time (20, 25 and 30 min). Similarly, in the salt spray test and microhardness test, the selected parameters are: percentage of reinforcement (3%, 6% and 9%), pH value (3, 6 and 9), and hang time (24, 48 and 72 h). The percentage of reinforcement highly influenced the wear and microhardness test, while the stirring time parameter extremely influenced the ultimate tensile strength. From the corrosion test, the hang time influences the corrosion rate. The SEM analysis highly reveals the bonding of each reinforcement particle to the base material.  相似文献

Possible relations between the native oxide film formed spontaneously on the AZ31 and AZ61 magnesium alloy substrates with different surface finish, the chemistry of the outer surface of the conversion coatings that grows after their subsequent immersion on saturated aqueous NaHCO3 solution treatment and the enhancement of corrosion resistance have been studied. The significant increase in the amount of aluminum and carbonate compounds on the surface of the conversion coating formed on the AZ61 substrate in polished condition seems to improve the corrosion resistance in low chloride ion concentration solutions. In contrast, the conversion coatings formed on the AZ31 substrates in polished condition has little effect on their protective properties compared to the respective as-received surface.  相似文献

In this study, the influence of Er addition on the microstructure, type transformation of second phases, and corrosion resistance of an Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloy were explored. The results revealed that the added Er element could significantly refine the alloy grains and change the second-phase composition at the grain boundary of the alloy. In the as-cast state, the Er element significantly enhanced the corrosion resistance of the alloy due to its refining effect on the grains and second phases at the grain boundary. The addition of the alloying element Er to the investigated alloy changed the type of corrosion attack on the alloy’s surface. In the presence of Er, the dominant type of corrosion attack is pitting corrosion, while the alloy without Er is prone to intergranular corrosion attack. After a solution treatment, the Al8Cu4Er phase was formed, in which the interaction with the Cu element and the competitive growth relation to the Al3Er phase were the key factors influencing the corrosion resistance of the alloy. The anodic corrosion mechanism of the Al8Cu4Er and Al3Er phases evidently lowered the alloy corrosion rate, and the depth of the corrosion pit declined from 197 μm to 155 μm; however, further improvement of corrosion resistance was restricted by the morphology and size of the Al8Cu4Er phase after its formation and growth; therefore, adjusting the matching design of the Cu and Er elements can allow Er to improve the corrosion resistance of the Al–Zn–Mg–Cu aluminum alloy to the greatest extent.  相似文献

Molten fluorides of alkali metals are considered a technological medium for molten salt reactors (MSRs). However, these media are known to be extremely corrosive. The successful implementation of high-temperature technological devices using molten alkali metal fluorides requires the selection of such structural materials that have high corrosion resistance in melts with compositional characteristic of MSRs. In this research, the corrosion behavior of 12Cr18Ni10Ti steel, the alloy Ni60Cr20Mo15, and the alloy Monel 404 (Ni50Cu50) was investigated in the LiF–NaF–KF eutectic melt, containing additions of CeF3 and NdF3 from 0 to 5 wt.% as imitator fluorides of actinides in an inert argon atmosphere at 550 °C for 100 h. Gravimetry, energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) microanalysis of surfaces and cross-section of samples, and ICP-MS were used to establish the corrosion behavior of the investigated alloys. Corrosion resistance of the studied materials was found to decrease in a row from Monel 404 > Hastelloy C2000 > 12Cr18Ni10Ti. The addition of cerium fluoride into the melt resulted in the additional etching of the alloy surface. The addition of neodymium fluoride resulted in the formation of the point/inter-crystalline corrosion damages in the sample bulk. The samples of steel 12Cr18Ni10Ti were subjected to local cracking corrosion. The austenitic nickel-based alloys suffered specific local corrosion with formation of subsurface voids. Excellent corrosion resistance of the Monel alloy under the test conditions was found.  相似文献

In the present work, the corrosion behavior of the Mg2Sn alloy (Mg66.7Sn33.3, concentration in at.%) has been studied. The alloy was prepared from high purity Sn and Mg lumps by induction melting in argon. The alloy was composed of intermetallic Mg2Sn with a small amount of Mg2Sn + (Sn) eutectic. The corrosion behavior was studied by hydrogen evolution, immersion, and potentiodynamic experiments. Three aqueous solutions of NaCl (3.5 wt.%), NaOH (0.1 wt.%) and HCl (0.1 wt.%) were chosen as corrosion media. The alloy was found to be cathodic with respect to metallic Mg and anodic with respect to Sn. The corrosion potentials of the Mg2Sn alloy were −1380, −1498 and −1361 mV vs. sat. Ag/AgCl in HCl, NaCl and NaOH solutions, respectively. The highest corrosion rate of the alloy, 92 mmpy, was found in aqueous HCl. The high corrosion rate was accompanied by massive hydrogen evolution on the alloy’s surface. The corrosion rate was found to decrease sharply with increasing pH of the electrolyte. In the NaOH electrolyte, a passivation of the alloy was observed. The corrosion of the alloy involved a simultaneous oxidation of Mg and Sn. The main corrosion products on the alloy surface were MgSn(OH)6 and Mg(OH)2. The corrosion mechanism is discussed and implications for practical applications of the alloy are provided.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to characterize the structure and corrosion properties of the MgCa4.5(Gd0.5) alloys surface treated by the micro-arc oxidation (MAO) process. The MgCa4.5 and MgCa4.5Gd0.5 alloy samples were processed by MAO in an electrolyte composed of NaOH (10 g/dm3), NaF (10 g/dm3), NaH2PO4 (5 g/dm3), Na2SiO2·5H2O (10 g/dm3) and water. Two different voltages (120 V and 140 V) were used in the MAO process. The alloys protected by an oxide layer formed in the MAO were then the subject of corrosion resistance tests in an environment simulating the human body (Ringer’s solution). After the experiments, the resulting samples were investigated using SEM, XPS and EDS techniques. The addition of Gd affected the fragmentation of the coating structure, thereby increasing the specific surface; higher voltages during the MAO process increased the number and size of surface pores. Corrosion tests showed that the MgCa4.5Gd0.5 alloys were characterized by low polarization resistances and high corrosion current densities. The studies indicated the disadvantageous influence of gadolinium on the corrosion resistance of MgCa4.5 alloys. The immersion tests confirmed lower corrosion resistance of MgCa4.5Gd0.5 alloys compared to the referenced MgCa4.5 ones. The MgCa4.5 alloy with the MAO coating established at voltage 140 V demonstrated the best anticorrosion properties.  相似文献

Friction stir welding (FSW) of aluminum alloys is an advanced manufacturing technology to realize lightweight bodywork. However, most studies only focus on the mechanical properties and corrosion behaviors of the welded joints. The effect of deformation on the corrosion behavior of FSWed joints is unclear. In this work, the plastic deformation behavior was characterized using uniaxial tensile tests. The effect of deformation on the corrosion behavior of a 2024 aluminum alloy nugget was studied by using a Tafel polarization curve, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, exfoliation corrosion test, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectrometer, and transmission electron microscopy. The results show that the corrosion resistance of FSWed joints with different deformation degrees can be ranked as: 0% > 7% > 10% > 4%, and an “inflection point” appears at 7%. The corrosion potential and current density at 7% are near the values at 0%, and the 7% sample shows less corrosion rate than all other deformation samples. Only pitting and bubbling occur in the sample in 96 h. With an increase in plastic deformation, the dislocations and dislocation rings increase, there is an increase in the surrounding winding precipitates. The impurity phase is cleaved by dislocations; a reduction in the size of the impurity phase with low chemical activity can be observed, resulting in an increase in corrosion resistance. However, the transgranular and intergranular cracks appear on the 10% deformation sample. They almost always develop along the grain boundaries after initiation, making them more susceptible to corrosion.  相似文献

This article discusses the influence of conversion casein coatings with a thickness of about 20 µm on the structure and the corrosion behavior of two magnesium alloys: MgCa2Zn1 and MgCa2Zn1Gd3. Casein is a protein that, along with whey protein, is a part of milk. Casein coatings are appropriate for bone growth because they contain high amounts of calcium and phosphorus. In this work, casein coatings and casein-free coatings were applied on Mg-based alloys using the conversion process. The structure and topography observations were presented. The corrosion behavior was determined by electrochemical and immersion tests, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in chloride-rich Ringer solution. The obtained results show that conversion casein coatings effectively protect Mg-based alloys against corrosion. This was confirmed by higher corrosion potentials (Ecorr), polarization resistances (Rp) derived from Tafel’s and EIS analysis, as well as low hydrogen release. The volume of hydrogen released after 216 h of immersion for casein coatings applied to MgCa2Zn1 and MgCa2Zn1Gd3 alloys was 19.25 and 12.42 mL/cm2, respectively. The improvement in corrosion resistance of casein coatings was more significant for Mg alloy dopped with gadolinium. The lower corrosion rate of casein conversion coatings is explained by the synergistic effect of the addition of Gd in the Mg-based alloy and the formation of dense, tight conversion casein coatings on the surface of this alloy.  相似文献

Magnesium alloys show broad application prospects as biodegradable implanting materials due to their good biocompatibility, mechanical compatibility, and degradability. However, the influence mechanism of microstructure evolution during forming on the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the magnesium alloy process is not clear. Here, the effects of rolling deformation, such as cold rolling, warm rolling, and hot rolling, on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance of the WE43 magnesium alloy were systematically studied. After rolling treatment, the grains of the alloy were significantly refined. Moreover, the crystal plane texture strength and basal plane density decreased first and then increased with the increase in rolling temperature. Compared with the as-cast alloy, the strength of the alloy after rolling was significantly improved. Among them, the warm-rolled alloy exhibited the best mechanical properties, with a tensile strength of 346.7 MPa and an elongation of 8.9%. The electrochemical experiments and immersion test showed that the hot working process can greatly improve the corrosion resistance of the WE43 alloy. The hot-rolled alloy had the best corrosion resistance, and its corrosion resistance rate was 0.1556 ± 0.18 mm/year.  相似文献

Phosphate and aluminate electrolytes were used to prepare plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coatings on 6061 aluminum alloy. The surface and cross-section microstructure, element distribution, and phase composition of the PEO coatings were characterized by SEM, EDS, XPS, and XRD. The friction and wear properties were evaluated by pin-on-disk sliding tests under dry conditions. The corrosion resistance of PEO coatings was investigated by electrochemical corrosion and salt spray tests in acidic environments. It was found that the PEO coatings prepared from both phosphate and aluminate electrolytes were mainly composed of α-Al2O3 and γ-Al2O3. The results demonstrate that a bi-layer coating is formed in the phosphate electrolyte, and a single-layered dense alumina coating with a hardness of 1300 HV is realizable in the aluminate electrolyte. The aluminate PEO coating had a lower wear rate than the phosphate PEO coating. However, the phosphate PEO coating showed a better corrosion resistance in acidic environment, which is mainly attributed to the presence of an amorphous P element at the substrate/coating interface.  相似文献
