Objective  To investigate how delayed introduction of sulfadoxine–pyrimethamine (Fansidar®) and arthemeter–lumefantrine (Coartem®) as first-line drugs for malaria in KwaZulu-Natal contributed to the reported epidemics of 1985–1988 and 1997–2001.
Methods  Ecological study assessing the association between malaria incidence and the emergence and degree of resistance to chloroquine from 1982 to 1988 and to sulfadoxine–pyrimethamine from 1991 to 2001, when each was the first-line malaria treatment.
Results  The relative risk for malaria infection after the level of drug resistance reached 10% was 4.5 (95% CI: 4.0–5.2) in the chloroquine period and 5.9 (95% CI: 5.7–6.1) in the sulfadoxine–pyrimethamine period. In the chloroquine period, the relative risk of death from malaria was tenfold (95% CI: 1.3–78.1) and the case fatality doubled after drug resistance had reached 10%. The risk of death during the sulfadoxine–pyrimethamine period was 10.8 (95% CI: 5.9–19.2) and case fatality 1.8 times higher after drug resistance had reached 10%, than before.
Conclusion  Malaria epidemics in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa have been exacerbated by failing drug regimens. The establishment of sentinel sites for monitoring drug failure and the prompt adoption of guidelines based on World Health Organization standards in drug resistance should improve malaria control.  相似文献

Objective  To compare the performance of OptiMAL-IT®, a rapid diagnostic test for malaria, with that of microscopy in Burkina Faso.
Method  Finger-prick blood samples of 464 children attending hospital for suspected malaria were tested for malaria by microscopy and OptiMAL-IT®.
Results  The sensitivity and specificity of OptiMAL-IT® were 98.7% (CI 95% = 97.6–99.8) and 96.2% (CI 95% = 94.3–98.1) respectively, with a high positive likelihood ratio (25.97).
Conclusion  OptiMAL-IT® can be considered a good method to diagnose malaria in Burkina Faso, particularly in remote areas with little or no access to microscopy services.  相似文献

Objective  To describe the factors associated with malaria infection and anaemia in pregnancy in northern Ghana.
Method  We studied 3642 pregnant women of all gravidities and gestational age of 18–32 weeks who attended an antenatal clinic in the Kassena-Nankana district of Ghana between June 2004 and July 2006. Blood samples were examined for haemoglobin concentrations and parasitaemia, and we obtained socio-demographic data, an obstetric history, information on their past and current state of health and bed net use.
Results  The overall prevalence of malaria parasitaemia during pregnancy was 47%. Older age [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) 0.65, 95% CI 0.54–0.78], multigravidity (AOR 0.51, 95% CI 0.42–0.61) and third trimester of pregnancy (AOR 0.85, 95% CI 0.73–0.99) were associated with a decreased risk of parasitaemia. Enrolment during the rainy or post-rainy season was associated with an increased risk of parasitaemia (AOR 2.59, 95% CI 2.20–3.04 and AOR 3.12, 95% CI, 2.60–3.74 respectively). Malaria infection was associated with an increased risk of anaemia among young women. The prevalences of anaemia (Hb<11.0 g/dl) and severe anaemia (Hb<7.0 g/dl) during pregnancy were 72% and 2% respectively. The risk of anaemia was lower in older women (AOR 0.79, 95% CI, 0.64–0.97), multigravidae (AOR 0.67, 95% CI 0.55–0.83) and in educated women (AOR 0.81, 0.68–0.98).
Conclusion  The prevalence of malaria parasitaemia and anaemia among pregnant women in Kassena-Nankana district is high with marked seasonal variation. Targeting of interventions to the high transmission season and to paucigravidae may be appropriate in this setting.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To validate and quantify the impact of insecticide-treated bednets (ITN) on malaria morbidity and mortality in Cambodia. METHODS: A paired, cluster-randomized trial of ITN was conducted in Rattanakiri, North East Cambodia. Thirty-four villages with a total population of 10,726 were randomized to receive deltamethrin-impregnated bednets or to control (no net provision). Cross-sectional surveys measured Plasmodium falciparum prevalence at baseline and 10 months after ITN distribution. Village malaria volunteers in control and intervention villages treated dipstick-positive P. falciparum cases with artesunate and mefloquine. The resulting passive surveillance data were used as an estimate of the incidence of clinical P. falciparum infections. RESULTS: There was a protective efficacy of 28% in P. falciparum incidence (adjusted rate ratio 0.72, 95% CI 0.47-1.08) and 9% in P. falciparum prevalence (adjusted prevalence ratio 0.91, 95% CI 0.65-1.28) in ITN relative to control villages; however, neither of these estimates reached statistical significance. Individual-level analysis indicated a greater reduction in P. falciparum prevalence among under 5-year-olds (adjusted OR = 0.63, 95% CI 0.26-1.53) compared to older individuals (interaction P = 0.042). The protective efficacy of 35% (95% CI -28, 67%) with respect to clinical P. falciparum incidence in under 5-year-olds was more pronounced than the corresponding estimates for prevalence but was again not significant. CONCLUSIONS: Lack of statistical significance in the results is likely to be due to a lack of power. The analysis provides further evidence for ITN effectiveness in South East Asia, particularly among individuals under 5 years of age.  相似文献

New drugs are needed for preventing drug-resistant Plasmodium falciparum malaria. The prophylactic efficacy of azithromycin against P. falciparum in malaria-immune Kenyans was 83%. We conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to determine the prophylactic efficacy of azithromycin against multidrug-resistant P. falciparum malaria and chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium vivax malaria in Indonesian adults with limited immunity. After radical cure therapy, 300 randomized subjects received azithromycin (148 subjects, 750-mg loading dose followed by 250 mg/d), placebo (77), or doxycycline (75, 100 mg/d). The end point was slide-proven parasitemia. There were 58 P. falciparum and 29 P. vivax prophylaxis failures over 20 weeks. Using incidence rates, the protective efficacy of azithromycin relative to placebo was 71.6% (95% confidence interval [CI], 50.3-83.8) against P. falciparum malaria and 98.9% (95% CI, 93.1-99.9) against P. vivax malaria. Corresponding figures for doxycycline were 96.3% (95% CI, 85.4-99.6) and 98% (95% CI, 88.0-99.9), respectively. Daily azithromycin offered excellent protection against P. vivax malaria but modest protection against P. falciparum malaria.  相似文献

Objectives  To examine the associations between household Plasmodium falciparum infection and a number of factors including domestic animal ownership, potential mosquito breeding sites, indoor darkness, density of people, distance between dwelling structures, and insecticide-treated bed net use.
Methods  Analyses were based on data collected from a household survey conducted in Macha, Zambia. Thirty-four households with recurrent malaria infection in 2005–2008 were selected as case households and compared with 37 control households with no malaria infection randomly selected from the same geographic area. Logistic regression models were used to identify factors associated with household P. falciparum infection.
Results  In multivariate analysis, cattle ownership was associated with reduced risk of P. falciparum infection (adjusted odds ratio = 0.19; 95% CI = 0.05–0.69), as was increased distance between dwelling structures (aOR = 0.26; 95% CI = 0.07–0.98). Ownership of the highest category of cattle, goats, dogs, or cats dramatically reduced the risk of P. falciparum infection (aOR = 0.13; 95% CI = 0.03–0.56).
Conclusion  Domestic animal, in particular cattle, ownership and greater distance between dwelling structures were associated with reduced risk of recurrent P. falciparum infection at the household level. These factors should be further investigated as supplemental measures for malaria control in rural African settings.  相似文献

Pregnancy-associated malaria is one of the leading causes of low birth weight in malaria endemic areas. In this study, 145 parturient women residing in areas endemic for Plasmodium falciparum in Lambaréné, Gabon, were recruited into the study after delivery, and the association of maternal P. falciparum infection, inflammatory response, and birth weight was studied. At delivery, 10% (15) of the mothers (12 were positive in both peripheral and placental blood smears, 1 was positive in peripheral blood only, and 2 were positive in placenta blood only) were positive for P. falciparum by microscopy and 23% (30) by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The level of C-reactive protein (CRP) was significantly elevated in microscopically P. falciparum-positive pregnant women (34 mg/L; 95% CI: 3-458) but not in those with sub-microscopic infections (6 mg/L; 95% CI: 1-40) compared with those free of P. falciparum infection (7 mg/L; 95% CI: 1-43). In a multivariate analysis, the presence of microscopic (adjusted OR = 28.6, 95% CI = 4.8-169.0) or sub-microscopic (adjusted OR = 13.2, 95% CI = 2.4-73.0) P. falciparum infection in pregnant women and age of mothers < 21 years (adjusted OR = 9.7 CI = 1.0-89.7), but not CRP levels, were independent predictors for low birth weight. This finding may have important operational implications and emphasizes the need for appropriate diagnostic methods in studies evaluating the outcome of pregnancy-associated malaria.  相似文献

A randomized, open trial involving 260 Tanzanian children, aged 1–5 years, with acute Plasmodium falciparum malaria was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the combination antimalarial CGP 56697 (artemether and benflumetol), and to compare it with chloroquine, the standard drug used for malaria treatment in the Kilombero area. Children who had received rescue medication within the first 48 h or had a negative slide at the same time were excluded. Seven-day parasitological cure rates were 94% (95% CI 88–97.5) for CGP 56697 and 35.4% (95% CI 25.9–45.8) for chloroquine. Using the same definition, the 14-day parasitological cure rates were 86.4% (95% CI 78.5–92.2) for CGP 56697 and 10.3% (95% CI 5.1–18.1) for chloroquine. Gametocytes were more effectively suppressed by CGP 56697 than by chloroquine. There were no major adverse events with either drug. CGP 56697 is highly efficacious against P. falciparum in this area of Tanzania. The study contributes to the discussion on treatment strategies, particularly whether chloroquine may still fulfil its role as first-line drug in an area of high malaria transmission and very high levels of chloroquine resistance.  相似文献

Malaria is often a major health problem in countries undergoing war or conflict owing to breakdown of health systems, displacement of vulnerable populations, and the increased risk of epidemics. After 23 years of conflict, malaria has become prevalent in many rural areas of Afghanistan. From 1993 to the present, a network of non-governmental organizations, co-ordinated by HealthNet International, has operated a programme of bednet sales and re-treatment in lowland areas. To examine whether a strategy based on insecticide-treated nets (ITN) is a viable public health solution to malaria, communities were given the opportunity to buy nets and then monitored to determine population coverage and disease control impact. This was carried out using two contrasting methods: cross-sectional surveys and passive surveillance from clinics using a case-control design. Nets were purchased by 59% of families. Cross-sectional surveys demonstrated a 59% reduction in the risk of Plasmodium falciparum infection among ITN users compared with non-users (OR 0.41; 95% CI 0.25-0.66). The passive surveillance method showed a comparable reduction in the risk of symptomatic P. falciparum malaria among ITN users (OR 0.31; 95% CI 0.21-0.47). The cross-sectional method showed a 50% reduction in risk of P. vivax infection in ITN users compared with non-users (OR 0.50; 95% CI 0.17-1.49) but this effect was not statistically significant. The passive surveillance method showed a 25% reduction in the risk of symptomatic P. vivax malaria (OR 0.75; 95% CI 0.66-0.85). ITN appeared to be less effective against P. vivax because of relapsing infections; hence an effect took more than one season to become apparent. Passive surveillance was cheaper to perform and gave results consistent with cross-sectional surveys. Untreated nets provided some protection. Data on socioeconomic status, a potential confounding factor, was not collected. However, at the time of net sales, there was no difference in malaria prevalence between buyers and non-buyers. The abundance of Anopheles stephensi, the main vector, did not appear to be affected by ITN. ITN constitute one of the few feasible options for protection against malaria in chronic emergencies.  相似文献

In vitro drug susceptibility profiles were assessed in 75 Plasmodium falciparum isolates from 4 sites in Myanmar. Except at Mawlamyine, the site closest to the Thai border, prevalence and degree of resistance to mefloquine were lower among the Myanmar isolates as compared with those from Thailand. Geometric mean concentration that inhibits 50% (IC50) and 90% (IC90) of Mawlamyine isolates were 51 nM (95% confidence interval [CI], 40-65) and 124 nM (95% CI, 104-149), respectively. At the nearest Thai site, Maesod, known for high-level multidrug resistance, the corresponding values for mefloquine IC50 and IC90 were 92 nM (95% CI, 71-121) and 172 nM (95% CI, 140-211). Mefloquine susceptibility of P. falciparum in Myanmar, except for Mawlamyine, was consistent with clinical-parasitological efficacy in semi-immune people. High sensitivity to artemisinin compounds was observed in this geographical region. The data suggest that highly mefloquine-resistant P. falciparum is concentrated in a part of the Thai-Myanmar border region.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate risk factors for preoperative and postoperative delirium.
DESIGN: Prospective cohort study.
SETTING: Departments of orthopedic surgery in two Norwegian hospitals.
PARTICIPANTS: Three hundred sixty-four patients with and without cognitive impairment, aged 65 and older.
MEASUREMENTS: Patients were screened daily for delirium using the Confusion Assessment Method. Established risk factors and risk factors regarded as clinically important according to expert opinion were explored in univariate analyses. Variables associated with the outcomes ( P <.05) were entered into multivariate logistic regression models.
RESULTS: Delirium was present in 50 of 237 (21.1%) assessable patients preoperatively, whereas 68 of 187 (36.4%) patients developed delirium postoperatively (incident delirium). Multivariate logistic regression identified four risk factors for preoperative delirium: cognitive impairment (adjusted odds ratio (AOR)=4.7, 95% confidence interval (CI)=1.9–11.3), indoor injury (AOR=3.6, 95% CI=1.1–12.2), fever (AOR=3.4, 95% CI=1.5–7.7), and preoperative waiting time (AOR=1.05, 95% CI=1.0–1.1 per hour). Cognitive impairment (AOR=2.9, 95% CI=1.4–6.2), indoor injury (AOR=2.9, 95% CI=1.1–6.3), and body mass index (BMI) less than 20.0 (AOR=2.9, 95% CI=1.3–6.7) were independent and statistically significant risk factors for postoperative delirium.
CONCLUSION: Time from admission to operation is a risk factor for preoperative delirium, whereas low BMI is an important risk factor for postoperative delirium in hip fracture patients. Cognitive impairment and indoor injury are independent risk factors for preoperative and postoperative delirium.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To investigate prevalence and incidence of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and its risk of progression to dementia in an elderly Italian population.
DESIGN: Longitudinal.
SETTING: Population-based cohort aged 65 and older resident in an Italian municipality.
PARTICIPANTS: A total of 1,016 subjects underwent baseline evaluation in 1999/2000. In 2003/04, information about cognitive outcome was collected for 745 participants who were free of dementia at baseline.
MEASUREMENTS: MCI (classified as with or without impairment of the memory domain), dementia, Alzheimer's dementia (AD), and vascular dementia (VaD) diagnosed according to current international criteria.
RESULTS: Overall prevalence of MCI was 7.7% (95% confidence interval (CI)=6.1–9.7 %) and was greater with older age and poor education. During 4 years of follow-up, 155 incident MCI cases were diagnosed, with an incidence rate of 76.8 (95% CI=66.8–88.4) per 1,000 person-years. Approximately half of prevalent and incident MCI cases had memory impairment. Compared with normal cognition, multivariable-adjusted risk for progression from MCI with memory impairment to dementia was 4.78 (95% CI=2.78–8.07) for any dementia, 5.92 (95% CI=3.20–10.91) for AD, and 1.61 (95% CI=0.37–7.00) for VaD. No association with dementia risk was found for MCI without memory impairment. Approximately one-third of MCI cases with memory impairment did not progress to dementia.
CONCLUSION: MCI occurs often in this elderly Italian cohort and is associated with greater risk of AD, but only when the impairment involves the memory domain. However, a substantial proportion of MCI cases with memory impairment do not progress to dementia.  相似文献

Summary objective  To investigate the effectiveness of chemoprophylaxis and the determinants of malaria importation from Kenya.
method  In a population-based case-control study, 51 travellers from Bavaria diagnosed with falciparum malaria imported from Kenya (cases) and a sample of 383 healthy Bavarian travellers returning from Kenya (controls) were interviewed. Data were analysed by multiple logistic regression.
results  Mefloquine (OR = 0.055; 95% Cl 0.019-0.16) and chloroquine combined with proguanil (OR = 0.128; 95% CI 0.039-0.419) were highly protective against P. falciparum malaria, whereas other drugs were ineffective (OR = 1.225; 95% CI 0.536-2.803). Ineffective prophylaxis (10.4%) and non-prophylaxis (11.2%) were the main reasons for malaria importation. Travelling alone or with friends, male sex, and travel duration over 4 weeks could be identified as additional risk factors. The main reason for inadequate chemoprophylaxis was inappropriate medical advice (87.5%). Prophylaxis refusal occurred frequently despite correct advice (58.1%). Diagnosis was often delayed unnecessarily (27.5%).
conclusion  Malaria importation from Kenya could be reduced substantially (34%) by eliminating inappropriate medical advice.  相似文献

A longitudinal study on malaria was carried out from 2003 to 2005 in an area of unstable malaria in the Panna district in central India. Both Plasmodium vivax and P. falciparum were prevalent; however, the risk of P. falciparum malaria was 31.6% (95% confidence interval [CI] = 29.6-33.6%), which is four times higher compared with that of P. vivax malaria (7.8%, 95% CI = 6.7-9%). An increasing trend was recorded in malaria prevalence from 30.2% in 2003 to 46.6% in 2004 (odds ratio [OR] = 2.0, 95% CI = 1.6-2.5) that increased to 58.6% in 2005 (OR = 1.6, 95% CI = 1.2-2.1). This increase was statistically significant (chi(2) = 120.5, degrees of freedom = 2, P < 0.0001). Anopheles culicifacies was the dominant vector of malaria and showed partial (< 50%) resistance to DDT, which indicated that DDT can still be used. Improved access to treatment facilities, combination therapy, and vector control appears to be the most promising method for controlling malaria in this region.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effects of a multifactorial fall prevention program on falls and to identify the subgroups that benefit the most.
DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial.
SETTING: Community-dwelling subjects who had fallen at least once during the previous 12 months.
PARTICIPANTS: Five hundred ninety-one subjects randomized into intervention (IG) (n=293) and control (CG) (n=298) groups.
INTERVENTION: A multifactorial 12-month fall prevention program.
MEASUREMENTS: Incidence of falls.
RESULTS: The intervention did not reduce the incidence of falls overall (incidence rate ratio (IRR) for IG vs CG=0.92, 95% confidence interval (CI)=0.72–1.19). In subgroup analyses, significant interactions between subgroups and groups (IG and CG) were found for depressive symptoms ( P =.006), number of falls during the previous 12 months ( P =.003), and self-perceived risk of falling ( P =.045). The incidence of falls decreased in subjects with a higher number of depressive symptoms (IRR=0.50, 95% CI=0.28–0.88), whereas it increased in those with a lower number of depressive symptoms (IRR=1.20, 95% CI=0.92–1.57). The incidence of falls decreased also in those with at least three previous falls (IRR=0.59, 95% CI=0.38–0.91) compared to those with one or two previous falls (IRR=1.28, 95% CI=0.95–1.72). The intervention was also more effective in subjects with high self-perceived risk of falling (IRR=0.77, 95% CI=0.55–1.06) than in those with low self-perceived risk (IRR=1.28, 95% CI=0.88–1.86).
CONCLUSION: The program was not effective in reducing falls in the total sample of community-dwelling subjects with a history of falling, but the incidence of falls decreased in participants with a higher number of depressive symptoms and in those with at least three falls.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The cause of seizures in children with falciparum malaria is unclear. In malaria endemic areas, children who develop severe falciparum malaria with seizures may have a genetically higher risk of epilepsy or febrile seizures. We used the history of seizures in relatives of children previously admitted with malaria to determine if there is evidence for a familial predisposition of seizures in children admitted with malaria and seizures or cerebral malaria. METHODS: Family history of seizures were obtained from the parents/guardians of 81 children (35 children previously admitted with severe malaria and 46 children matched for age who had not been admitted with severe malaria). Data were collected on frequency, duration, age of onset, presence of fever and causes of seizures. RESULTS: The prevalence of seizures in the relatives of children not admitted with severe malaria was 4.3%, of whom 2.2% had a history of seizures compatible with febrile seizures, and 1.1% with epilepsy. Overall the odds ratio (OR) for relations of children admitted with malaria, to have a seizure disorder was 1.41 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.06-1.88]. There was a significant risk of the relatives dying if they had epilepsy [relative risk 1.88 (95% CI 1.11-3.19)], but not for other seizure disorders (i.e. febrile, single or unclassifiable seizures). CONCLUSION: Relatives of children admitted with severe falciparum malaria are more likely to have a seizure disorder compared with controls, but it is unclear if this is because of a genetic propensity or caused by exogenous factors such as malaria.  相似文献

Objective  To assess the efficacy of chloroquine in the treatment of Plasmodium vivax malaria in in Dawei District, southern Myanmar.
Methods  Enrolled patients at Sonsinphya clinic >6 months of age were assessed clinically and parasitologically every week for 28 days. To differentiate new infections from recrudescence, we genotyped pre- and post-treatment parasitaemia. Blood chloroquine was measured to confirm resistant strains.
Results  Between December 2002 and April 2003, 2661 patients were screened, of whom 252 were included and 235 analysed. Thirty-four per cent (95% CI: 28.1–40.6) of patients had recurrent parasitaemia and were considered treatment failures. 59.4% of these recurrences were with a different parasite strain. Two (0.8%) patients with recurrences on day 14 had chloroquine concentrations above the threshold of 100 ng/ml and were considered infected with chloroquine resistant parasites. 21% of failures occurred during the first 3 weeks of follow-up: early recurrence and median levels of blood chloroquine comparable to those of controls suggested P. vivax resistance.
Conclusions  Plasmodium vivax resistance to chloroquine seems to be emerging in Dawei, near the Thai-Burmese border. While chloroquine remains the first-line drug for P. vivax infections in this area of Myanmar, regular monitoring is needed to detect further development of parasite resistance.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To estimate the prevalence and correlates of fecal incontinence (FI) and its effect on quality of life in ambulatory elderly people in Korea.
DESIGN: Cross-sectional, convenience sample–based survey.
SETTING: Twenty-seven senior citizen centers and two health clinics in two cities of Korea.
PARTICIPANTS: Nine hundred eighty-one relatively healthy and ambulatory community-dwelling people aged 60 and older.
MEASUREMENTS: Data were collected through in-person interviews with a structured questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine independent risk factors for FI.
RESULTS: The prevalence of FI was 15.5%. FI was significantly associated with lower quality of life (Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short-Form Survey) for physical and mental health. In men, FI was significantly associated with urinary incontinence (odds ratio (OR)=4.89, 95% confidence interval (CI)=2.45–9.77), hemorrhoids (OR=4.66, 95% CI=1.67–12.97), and poor self-perceived health status ( P for trend=.02). In women, FI was associated with urinary incontinence (OR=2.91, 95% CI=1.76–4.81), diabetes mellitus (OR=2.04, 95% CI=1.24–3.37), hemorrhoids (OR=2.99, 95% CI=1.31–6.83), and infrequent dietary fiber intake ( P for trend=.02).
CONCLUSION: FI is prevalent in elderly Koreans and has a profound effect on quality of life. Physicians should closely screen for FI in elderly patients with certain risk factors and evaluate to control these potentially preventable or modifiable factors.  相似文献

The intercountry border areas of Thailand have high malaria receptivity and vulnerability that present numerous problems in the control of malaria transmission. This study focused on the 30 provinces of Thailand situated next to neighboring countries, which can be divided into 4 groups: the Thai-Myanmar border (10 provinces), the Thai-Cambodia border (6 provinces), the Thai-Lao border (10 provinces) and the Thai-Malaysia border (4 provinces). The purpose of the present study was to describe the pattern and trend of malaria incidence in the highly endemic provinces along the Thai borders for the 11 years from 1991 to 2001. Analysis of trends showed the distribution of malaria parasites to have shifted from a preponderance of Plasmodium falciparum to Plasmodium vivax along the western border with Myanmar, the northern border with Lao PDR and along the eastern border with Cambodia whereas the southern border with Malaysia the pattern changed from a preponderance of P. vivax to P. falciparum, since 1997. There was a significant difference in annual parasite incidence between borders and non-border districts, especially along the Thai-Myanmar and Thai-Cambodia borders. It is thus evident that all border districts should pay more attention to control of malaria transmission and the activities of the malaria surveillance system, and that monitoring and evaluation of the Thai Malaria Control Program needs to be performed consistently, including some areas where a few malaria cases were found as well as in malaria free areas.  相似文献
